Review & Install Video
These RedRock 4x4 HD Rocker Guards are for those of you that have 4-door 2007 to 2018 JK that are looking for a way to add a little bit of rocker protection to your Jeep, but you don't need something that is all out the most hardcore or the most expensive option on the market. This is going to be a very easy piece to install, one out of three wrenches, and I'm gonna show you how to do it in just a second. So when you're shopping for rocker protection, you're gonna find a couple of different categories. Some stuff is just going to be protection. Others is going to also be a step. And, usually, if you have a combination step and protection, it's going to be a little bit at one than it is at the other. This is going to be, I would say, more on that rocker protection side of the scale than a step. While it does protrude from the end of the Jeep, it's not gonna be something that you can easily step on that will really help you get in and out of the Jeep any easier. It is really going to be more side protection. So why would you want rocker protection or why would you want rocker guards on your Jeep? Well, if you're off-road, whether it's in the rocks or just on the trail where there might be a stump, a log, something like that that could either get kicked up or you could come down onto on this rocker area of your Jeep, if you get any damage here, it can push the rocker up into the door, which can cause a very expensive repair that you may have to do because you might not be able to get your door open otherwise. So in order to protect this very vulnerable area, a rocker guard is going to be a great idea if you're taking your Jeep off-road. This one here, as I said before, is gonna be a little bit lighter protection than some of the other choices out there. It's going to bolt onto the body bushing bolts, instead of the body bolts themselves. Those body bolts are, of course, going to be much larger. These are going to a little smaller diameter. This is also only going to have two connections onto the Jeep, instead of the possible three body mounts that it could be using, so also a little bit lighter in that way. And, because it only attaches underneath the Jeep to those body bolts and not to the pinch seam as well, there is the opportunity to have a little bit more leverage that can move and flex this thing around. If it connects underneath and also to that pinch weld, you have two really solid points of connection, and things can't twist and move and flex quite as much for you.So, like I said, a little bit lighter protection, still gonna do a good job off-road in those light off-road scenarios, gonna do an excellent job on road. Again, shopping carts and door dings, this does a really nice job of protecting you. And because it is a little bit lighter protection, you would expect to pay a little bit less for it, and this is right in line with that. This comes in at right around $220 as opposed to some pieces that are double that cost or even more. So, like I said, easy one out of three wrenches for the install. Let me show you how to do it. For this installation, we just needed a 16-millimeter socket kit, and we drove that with our 1/2-inch pneumatic impact, and we also needed a small adapter. So, like I mentioned, this is gonna be a very easy one-out-of-three-wrench bolt-on installation. The first step is going to be removing any sort of side step, whether it be factory or otherwise or even rocker guard that you might have installed on the Jeep, to free up this space. As you can see, we don't have anything installed on ours, so we can jump right into the installation. What we're going to be doing is removing the two body bolt bushing nuts on either side of this rearmost body bolt and also the frontmost body bolt. So that's four nuts per side that we're going to remove. Then we can hoist our new slider up in place and put that factory hardware back on. Now we can get our slider put up in place and get the factory hardware put back on. Once you have all four nuts started, you can tighten them down.So if you are looking for a slider that's gonna you some light protection and also be a little less expensive than some of the other choices on the market, I would recommend this option from RedRock 4x4.
