    Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com. This is my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This bumper is available as you see it here or with a tire carrier option for those of you who have a larger spare tire and are looking for a better way to support it. This bumper is for those of you who are looking for the look and also the features that a plate steel bumper offers over your plastic factory rear bumper. This will provide some additional protection to the rear of the Jeep in both on road and off road situations. It also includes two D-ring mounts for recovery points and a third two-inch receiver in the center also for recovery points. This bumper, in particular, is a fairly simple design and is going to be less expensive than some of the other ones on the market, but you can still get the look and the features that you're after. This bumper is built from three-sixteenths inch steel and it's covered in a two stage textured black powder coat finish. The textured finish that this has does a nice job of matching a lot of other off road accessories that you may have added to your Jeep and also matches the factory plastic accents on the Jeep very well. The bumper includes this nice deep cutout for your spare tire. So, if you're not running the tire carrier and you do have a slightly larger than stock spare in the factory spare tire mounting location, this will give you some additional clearance so that spare tire doesn't hit the bumper when you open and close the tailgate. This bumper also has welded on D-ring mounts to give you some really nice strong recovery points. And, a nice feature about this bumper and a lot of other Barricade bumpers is that if it has D-ring mounts, it also includes the D-rings right in the box. That just keeps you from having to buy some additional parts. Another recovery point is right here in the middle. That's a two-inch receiver. Any sort of recovery tow bar that you can put into your regular two-inch receiver will go in here providing one more area for recovery. This bumper comes with all the hardware and all the brackets that you need to attach it to the Jeep. It has two nut plates that'll slide inside the frame rails and a sandwich plate that actually goes right behind this two-inch receiver, again, adding some additional strength. This whole bumper weighs in at about 83 pounds. That means it is beefy. It's strong. It's well built. It's gusseted. It's going to be plenty of strength for any on road or off road obstacles that you might throw at it. And, you can use it for recoveries all day long without the risk of damaging it. This bumper is designed to install on your Jeep very easily without the need to cut or drill anything. The first step in getting it installed on the Jeep is to remove your factory rear bumper. To do that, there are two bolts that hold that factory bumper onto the cross member and four bolts, two on each side, that hold it onto the rear frame rails. Once the factory rear bumper is removed, you'll want to remove the factory tow hook if you have one on your Jeep. That'll be on the driver side and mount right through the frame rail as well. You'll have to get that out of the way to install the nut plates that are used to install your new bumper. Once the tow hook's out of the way, you can slide the nut plates into the frame rails, then lift the bumper into place. Honestly, this is the most difficult part of installing this bumper. Because it does weight close to 85 pounds, you'll definitely want to have an extra set of hands around. Or if a friend isn't available to help, a jack and some blocks of wood or some tall jack stands will suffice. Once you have the bumper hoisted into place, you can use the included hardware to bolt through the bumper through the frame rail and into those nut plates. Once you have it snugged down but not tight, you'll install the sandwich plate which goes on the inside of the rear cross member. A couple of those bolts can be a little bit difficult to get to, but you don't have to take anything apart. You just have to use some extensions and get a little bit creative to get all the bolts installed. Once you have all of the bolts installed, you can make sure the bumper is sitting true and square and tighten everything down. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour. You won't need any specialty tools, just a good socket set. I think this bumper is really fairly priced for what you get. It's going to provide some additional protection for your Jeep on road and off road, especially when you compare it to that factory plastic bumper. It also gives you three recovery points which makes it functional off road. In my opinion, it makes your Jeep look a little bit more rough and tough and more like an off road vehicle than the plastic bumper does. If you're looking for a plate steel bumper to replace your factory plastic bumper to add some additional protection to your Jeep, add some recovery points and also add some style, I definitely recommend taking a look at this Barricade bumper. It's going to give you the style you're looking for and add some features, all while saving you some money. That's my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

I'm receiving this today, my JKU is waiting bare to have it bolted on. However, I'm reading up for the install, and at the very bottom of the description, it says that the hitch is "not rated for towing"?! Why on earth would you include a built-in hitch that is not rated for towing?! That's kind of like having wheels that are not rated for driving on!

    JimS

    • We do apologize that you ran into this issue! At this time Barricade does not offer an tow rated bumpers. Their hitch is intended for recovery purposes and some customers use it for accessory racks, like bike racks.

I'm interested in the Barricade rear bumper but I already have a hitch installed on my jeep. Does the bumper also come without the hitch already on it, or only with the 2" hitch built in? Thanks. I saw another question about cutting off the hitch but nothing specifically about whether or not the bumper also comes without the hitch attached. It seems like something Barricade would/should make as most jeeps already have hitches on them.

    RobertF

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper has a built in 2" Receiver. this is not rated for towing and does not have a location for safety chains to attach. This is a feature added in for utilizing accessories that attach to a 2" reciever.

Will this fit with a Barricade Roof rack? I just installed a Barricade roof rack for the holidays. It required the removal of the stock bumper and tow hook. The rear mount covers the outside of the frame, how does this bumper bolt on? Thanks, Alternativeshots

    Bayjunkie

    • It bolts onto the four holes the stock trailer hitch attached to on the frame and two holes on both sides of the frame. The driver side mounts onto the same holes that were used by the rear tow hook on my 2012 JKU.

How does this bumper work with the Garvin Adventure Rack? The Garvin Rack is meant to integrate with the factory bumpers but do the mounting points for the rack and this bumper allow them to be both installed on the same vehicle?

    JacobF

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can be utilized when installing the Garvin Adventure Rack, and would require following the directions below: http://1.cdn.lib.extremeterrain.com/guides/J25112-cust.pdf

I am interested in this bumper, however I see that the 2" receiver is not rated for towing. Are there any options that will allow for towing? I tow my boat regularly with the factory receiver and cannot lose the option to tow.

    2DWOODS

    • At this time Barricade does not offer any option to allow a tow rating with their bumpers.

      Perfect

This bumper is awesome. Got it to fit my new spare because of size and weight concerns. Fell in love with the look once it was on. Install was a breeze and super quick. Perfect instructions. Taking off your old bumper is the hardest part. Don't mess around and just get a breaker bar for that tow hook. I went through two socket wrenches and a socket before it came off.

Good bumper at a great price.

The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper was a great choice for me. Well made, easy to install and looks great. I needed the recovery points for clubs in our area. Added a solid rear bumper vs. the OEM plastic. Install little longer due to a bolt (OEM) having to be cut off. Approximately 2 hours.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Wrangler JK)

      Not worth it

The bumper looks good but that's about all it has going for it. Both carrier and bumper arrived in separate damaged boxes. Finish is terrible and was chipped before it even made it onto the jeep, even after spraying it with bedliner. I'm expecting it to rust within a month or two. Tire carrier didn't fit onto the bumper and required cutting and drilling to get it to slide on. Two of the nuts for the tire mount came cross threaded and couldn't take more than 2 turns. Being made in China i wasn't expecting much but I had hoped that there would be better quality control going through a US company and their rep on the forums. I'd of been better off saving a couple hundred dollars and getting a generic Ebay bumper, most likely made in the same factory as this one. Way overpriced for the quality you're getting. Haven't and most likely won't bother contacting customer service as they have not bothered to reply to a previous email I had sent concerning this bumper, just going to shop elsewhere.

      A good decision

For the price this is one badass bumper. Quality is good- heavy duty, nice textured powder coat and shackles included. Very easy installation (20 minutes) and it looks super mean. Clears my Flowmaster Outlaw dual exhaust, in case anyone has that same concern. Can’t justify spending 500-700 bucks or more when you can have this bumper for a fraction of the cost. You won’t be disappointed.

      Handle Rattle

This bumper installs very easy but you get what you pay for here. bumper looks great on my 13 Rubi and tire carrier gives it a different look. The Locking mechanism closes tight but the tire carrier does have its disadvantages. 1. The mounting plates are powder coated and you will need to run the bolt through a couple times in order to get it to screw in. 2. The handle rattles like crazy no matter how much you tighten the bolts and try to do the alignments on it. 3. make sure to make isolators for your spare or you will get a little tire wobble in your rearview mirror. Overall the bumper and tire carrier do there job and have protected my jeep from the rocks of the Rubicon to the red rock hillsides of Moab.

      NOT TOW RATED

Read everything thoroughly before you purchase. Don't make the mistake I did. You can NOT tow with this bumper! The bumper looks great but is now useless to me. I didn't read well enough before my purchase and now the bumper has been installed. I'll be looking to buy a new tow rated bumper ASAP!

      Great Bumper

The bumper is well made and of a strong material. It was very easy to install. The only issue was that the tire mount bolt and locking nuts were not of the same threading. A few bucks at Ace Hardware and we were all good.

      Reciever tube

Just finished install of the bumper. No instructions but you tube video is adequate. No real complaints about the install. Main part of bumper seems pretty well constructed. The receiver tube on the other hand is unusable. Too small!! Hitch tube will only insert about an inch into it before it binds. Unimpressed to say the least. Inside of the tube appears swollen in places. I will have to have the receiver cut out and replaced. I figure this will cost me at least $100 or so. My recommendation, spend that money needed to fix this one for a higher quality bumper. I rolled the dice and lost. Buyer beware!!!!

Substantial in construction, but annoying rattle.

Solid construction. "HEAVY duty" This sucker weighs 80lbs, so get a friend to help you install it. It looks rugged and adds protection to your Jeep. Be prepared for the most annoying rattle, though. Save yourself the trouble by applying some sort of dampening insulation during install at left and right attachment points. I slid heavy felt between bracket and inner frame tube and between bottom of bracket/inner frame tube, and then cranked down bolts on. Problem solved. Install time took longer because I didn't have help lifting, holding in place. I relied on floor jack and 2X4's. Safety always takes a bit longer. Good luck!

      It rusts easily

DO NOT buy this bumper, i have it for a year and it started to rust really bad. The warranty doesn't cover anything, and extreme won't do anything about it either. its a waste of money. I will stay away from this brand and this website, since they aren't willing to do anything about it.
