    Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com. This is my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This bumper is available as you see it here or with a tire carrier option for those of you who have a larger spare tire and are looking for a better way to support it. This bumper is for those of you who are looking for the look and also the features that a plate steel bumper offers over your plastic factory rear bumper. This will provide some additional protection to the rear of the Jeep in both on road and off road situations. It also includes two D-ring mounts for recovery points and a third two-inch receiver in the center also for recovery points. This bumper, in particular, is a fairly simple design and is going to be less expensive than some of the other ones on the market, but you can still get the look and the features that you're after. This bumper is built from three-sixteenths inch steel and it's covered in a two stage textured black powder coat finish. The textured finish that this has does a nice job of matching a lot of other off road accessories that you may have added to your Jeep and also matches the factory plastic accents on the Jeep very well. The bumper includes this nice deep cutout for your spare tire. So, if you're not running the tire carrier and you do have a slightly larger than stock spare in the factory spare tire mounting location, this will give you some additional clearance so that spare tire doesn't hit the bumper when you open and close the tailgate. This bumper also has welded on D-ring mounts to give you some really nice strong recovery points. And, a nice feature about this bumper and a lot of other Barricade bumpers is that if it has D-ring mounts, it also includes the D-rings right in the box. That just keeps you from having to buy some additional parts. Another recovery point is right here in the middle. That's a two-inch receiver. Any sort of recovery tow bar that you can put into your regular two-inch receiver will go in here providing one more area for recovery. This bumper comes with all the hardware and all the brackets that you need to attach it to the Jeep. It has two nut plates that'll slide inside the frame rails and a sandwich plate that actually goes right behind this two-inch receiver, again, adding some additional strength. This whole bumper weighs in at about 83 pounds. That means it is beefy. It's strong. It's well built. It's gusseted. It's going to be plenty of strength for any on road or off road obstacles that you might throw at it. And, you can use it for recoveries all day long without the risk of damaging it. This bumper is designed to install on your Jeep very easily without the need to cut or drill anything. The first step in getting it installed on the Jeep is to remove your factory rear bumper. To do that, there are two bolts that hold that factory bumper onto the cross member and four bolts, two on each side, that hold it onto the rear frame rails. Once the factory rear bumper is removed, you'll want to remove the factory tow hook if you have one on your Jeep. That'll be on the driver side and mount right through the frame rail as well. You'll have to get that out of the way to install the nut plates that are used to install your new bumper. Once the tow hook's out of the way, you can slide the nut plates into the frame rails, then lift the bumper into place. Honestly, this is the most difficult part of installing this bumper. Because it does weight close to 85 pounds, you'll definitely want to have an extra set of hands around. Or if a friend isn't available to help, a jack and some blocks of wood or some tall jack stands will suffice. Once you have the bumper hoisted into place, you can use the included hardware to bolt through the bumper through the frame rail and into those nut plates. Once you have it snugged down but not tight, you'll install the sandwich plate which goes on the inside of the rear cross member. A couple of those bolts can be a little bit difficult to get to, but you don't have to take anything apart. You just have to use some extensions and get a little bit creative to get all the bolts installed. Once you have all of the bolts installed, you can make sure the bumper is sitting true and square and tighten everything down. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour. You won't need any specialty tools, just a good socket set. I think this bumper is really fairly priced for what you get. It's going to provide some additional protection for your Jeep on road and off road, especially when you compare it to that factory plastic bumper. It also gives you three recovery points which makes it functional off road. In my opinion, it makes your Jeep look a little bit more rough and tough and more like an off road vehicle than the plastic bumper does. If you're looking for a plate steel bumper to replace your factory plastic bumper to add some additional protection to your Jeep, add some recovery points and also add some style, I definitely recommend taking a look at this Barricade bumper. It's going to give you the style you're looking for and add some features, all while saving you some money. That's my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

I'm receiving this today, my JKU is waiting bare to have it bolted on. However, I'm reading up for the install, and at the very bottom of the description, it says that the hitch is "not rated for towing"?! Why on earth would you include a built-in hitch that is not rated for towing?! That's kind of like having wheels that are not rated for driving on!

    JimS

    • We do apologize that you ran into this issue! At this time Barricade does not offer an tow rated bumpers. Their hitch is intended for recovery purposes and some customers use it for accessory racks, like bike racks.

I'm interested in the Barricade rear bumper but I already have a hitch installed on my jeep. Does the bumper also come without the hitch already on it, or only with the 2" hitch built in? Thanks. I saw another question about cutting off the hitch but nothing specifically about whether or not the bumper also comes without the hitch attached. It seems like something Barricade would/should make as most jeeps already have hitches on them.

    RobertF

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper has a built in 2" Receiver. this is not rated for towing and does not have a location for safety chains to attach. This is a feature added in for utilizing accessories that attach to a 2" reciever.

Will this fit with a Barricade Roof rack? I just installed a Barricade roof rack for the holidays. It required the removal of the stock bumper and tow hook. The rear mount covers the outside of the frame, how does this bumper bolt on? Thanks, Alternativeshots

    Bayjunkie

    • It bolts onto the four holes the stock trailer hitch attached to on the frame and two holes on both sides of the frame. The driver side mounts onto the same holes that were used by the rear tow hook on my 2012 JKU.

How does this bumper work with the Garvin Adventure Rack? The Garvin Rack is meant to integrate with the factory bumpers but do the mounting points for the rack and this bumper allow them to be both installed on the same vehicle?

    JacobF

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can be utilized when installing the Garvin Adventure Rack, and would require following the directions below: http://1.cdn.lib.extremeterrain.com/guides/J25112-cust.pdf

The handle for the tire carrier partially blocks the licence plate. Has anyone had any issues with law enforcement complaining about this?

    CodiW

    • We have not heard any reports of issues with law enforcement with the Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper, however you may want to check with a local police station to ensure no issues should arise.

      Barricade Bumper Review

I bought the Barricade bumpers for two reasons they were thinner so I assumed a few ponds lighter, they were in the middle of the road as far as cost go, and the front bumper would except the factory fog lights (ok three reason). Installation was pretty straight forward just like the video on line. I would say the only thing I was supprised by was the hitch receiver isn’t rated as a standard plug won’t fit without some grinding, but I’m not pulling a trailer so not a big deal for me. I have not experienced the chipping paint like some of the earlier reviews but I’ve only had them on for about 4 months. More on the front bumper in that review...4 stars

      Great Bumper

This is a great bumper for the price that you pay. If you're needing an after market bumper with a tire carrier that's big enough to carry your big tire, on this thing will work perfectly. Very little rattle going down the road and a very easy installation.

      Great Rear Bumper

the bumper is a great Rear Bumper, the only thing that made it not 5 stars is that there was no relocation bracket for the Trailer light plug. I had to zip tie it up so its not loose hanging. overall super happy with the fit and cost. the longest part of the install was the removal of the old rest bolts of the old bumper. use DP blaster the night before.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Wrangler JK)

Looks Great and Fairly Easy Install.

This bumper was fairly easy to install and took about 3 hrs due to the fact that I had to purchase different bolts to attach it to the Barricade Roof Rack system. When I ordered it, I was assured that it would sync with the Barricade Roof Rack system. See photo. Also found that the bolts that hold on the tire were not long enough and didn't thread all the way into the nuts. So I will have to get longer bolts to attach the tire for safety. See photo. Overall, it is a really heavy duty system and looks great on the Jeep.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Wrangler JK)

      good value for the buck

I replaced the factory bumper to install an independent tire carrier (for heavy 35" wheels). The install was about 2 hours and went on without a hitch. Did it myself so I'd recommend having help as this thing was heavy and difficult to hold in place while being bolted on. Otherwise easy. Looks great and had no problems with powder coat chipping that some mention. Overall very happy.

      Perfect, Easy Fit

Removing the recovery hook from the old set up was harder than installing the Barricade bumper. remember to leave the side bolts loose so you can shift the bumper for the hitch plate and bolts to line up. Needed help only to hold up the bumper to get side bolts started. And even then I could have done it myself quite easily with a jack.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Wrangler JK)

      Good bumper

There are tow things I would like to mention up front. The spare carrier tube that fits over the peg on the bumper was dropped in shipping and slightly flattened. I had to make it round again to install it. I also would like to see a bracket for my trailer light hookup like the stock hitch. I understand the lack of safety chain holes because they don't want you to tow trailers, but now my plug just dangles. Fit on the Jeep well. I installed it alone in about 4.5 hours, but recommend a friend help. Could shave off an hour or so. Looks good.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Wrangler JK)

      Nice bumper

Nice bumper, especially at this price point. Bumper and tire carrier are solid built, but the powder coating osnt very durable. Had a couple scratches from shipping that i had to sand and repaint. And when you put the little cap on the tire pivot point it cracks some of the coating off wjen tightned. Over all noce bumper and would buy again. Took anout an hour to install with my sons help.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Wrangler JK)

      Pretty good for the price

This bumper is a fairly good deal for the cost. It was fairly easy to install by myself and was a great solution to needing to upgrade my spare tire carrier. My only real complaint is the craftsmanship seems kind of sloppy. The back of the bumper isn’t symmetrical so there are small gaps where it meets the body (you wouldn’t really notice unless you knew what you were looking for) and the cylinder that the swing mounts on was filthy though it seemed as though extreme terrain made an effort to protect it. I was able to clean it up and make it work using extra grease when installing. Overall not bad for the price.
