    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys. This is Sara from extremeterrain.com and today we have a review and install of the Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper, fitting your '07 through '18 Jeep Wrangler JKs. This bumper is constructed from 316 steel and features a textured black powder coat finish. This bumper includes a built-in two-inch standard hitch receiver as well as D rings with reinforced mounts. In addition to its sturdy construction, this bumper can accommodate up to a 35-inch tire. Coming in at around $330, this is a budget-friendly way to add protection to the rear of your Jeep.I'm giving this install a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It does feature a bolt-on installation and can be done in approximately one hour with the help of a friend. With that said, let's jump right into our install. For this install, we used an impact gun, a socket set ranging from 15 to 22 millimeter and an 18-millimeter wrench. All right, so the first step in our uninstall is to remove our spare tire to give us better access to the bumper. So grab your 21-millimeter socket and let's get this off our Jeep. Now we can remove the two bolts that hold the side of your bumper on. Now, factory, these should be a 16 but the ones on our truck are 17. So let's grab your socket and get these removed.Repeat that process on the other side.So you will need to remove two brackets, one on either side of your crash bar that normally bolt right here with 2 15-millimeter bolts. Ours have gone missing but if you do still have these, you will need to remove them. With all of our bolts removed, let's get our bumper off of our Jeep. All right, so we will need to remove our factory hitch in order to install our Barricade Bumper. One thing to note that on our Jeep we do have an aftermarket exhaust here that deletes the large factory muffler that will sit right up here. Now, if you're not able to get these bolts out because they are so long with your factory muffler in place, you can drop it on either side by removing it from the hangers. Or if it's easier, you can take it off at the clamp that is right behind the axle. But since ours does not have that, grab your 18-millimeter socket and remove the bolts. So one final note on our uninstall is that if your Jeep has a factory tow hook here, that will also have to come out. Ours did not so now we're ready to get our bumper installed. All right. Now that we have our factory bumper uninstalled from our Jeep we can put it side by side with our Barricade bumper, really check out some of the differences. Right off the bat, you'll notice that your Jeep bumper is almost entirely constructed of plastic and our Barricade Bumper is constructed from plate steel so you're gonna get quite a bit more durability there. In addition, this factory plastic is definitely gonna fade over time and our Barricade Bumper features a nice texture black powder coat and is gonna last quite a bit longer. Finally, you do get two additional recovery points with D rings that they have included and the hitch is also incorporated. So it's quite a bit more features to your Barricade Bumper. Before we get our bumper bolted onto our Jeep we do need to slide these brackets into your frame rail. Make sure that the bolts are on the way up. You don't want them like that. So with the bolt holes up, go ahead and slide them into your frame rail until you see them peek through these holes here. Do the same thing with the other bracket. Now we can line up our bumper. You may wanna grab a friend for this portion to do it a little easier. Grab your hardware and let's get it started.Once you have all four bolts in the outer sides of your bumper, install the four hitch bolts. You may have to wiggle your bumper a little bit to get these in.With an 18-millimeter wrench and an 18-millimeter socket, tighten these down.At this point just double check your fitment. If you're not happy with how it aligns to your Jeep, you can definitely loosen those four bolts up underneath and tweak it a little bit to your liking. But if you are happy with it, grab your 18-millimeter socket and let's tighten down the bolts on the outside. At this point, we can reinstall our tire on our Jeep. Finally, we can install our D rings. With the pins out, slide them over this tab and slide them through the threaded side. And that is gonna do it for the review and install of our Barricade Bumper. Remember, for all things Jeep, keep it at extremeterrain.com.

I'm receiving this today, my JKU is waiting bare to have it bolted on. However, I'm reading up for the install, and at the very bottom of the description, it says that the hitch is "not rated for towing"?! Why on earth would you include a built-in hitch that is not rated for towing?! That's kind of like having wheels that are not rated for driving on!

        • We do apologize that you ran into this issue! At this time Barricade does not offer an tow rated bumpers. Their hitch is intended for recovery purposes and some customers use it for accessory racks, like bike racks.

I'm interested in the Barricade rear bumper but I already have a hitch installed on my jeep. Does the bumper also come without the hitch already on it, or only with the 2" hitch built in? Thanks. I saw another question about cutting off the hitch but nothing specifically about whether or not the bumper also comes without the hitch attached. It seems like something Barricade would/should make as most jeeps already have hitches on them.

        • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper has a built in 2" Receiver. this is not rated for towing and does not have a location for safety chains to attach. This is a feature added in for utilizing accessories that attach to a 2" reciever.

Will this fit with a Barricade Roof rack? I just installed a Barricade roof rack for the holidays. It required the removal of the stock bumper and tow hook. The rear mount covers the outside of the frame, how does this bumper bolt on? Thanks, Alternativeshots

        • It bolts onto the four holes the stock trailer hitch attached to on the frame and two holes on both sides of the frame. The driver side mounts onto the same holes that were used by the rear tow hook on my 2012 JKU.

How does this bumper work with the Garvin Adventure Rack? The Garvin Rack is meant to integrate with the factory bumpers but do the mounting points for the rack and this bumper allow them to be both installed on the same vehicle?

        • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can be utilized when installing the Garvin Adventure Rack, and would require following the directions below: http://1.cdn.lib.extremeterrain.com/guides/J25112-cust.pdf

Terrible set up to get you to buy old products

I ordered an open box bumper that was supposed to have the hardware included. There was plenty of options to buy that didn't have hardware included, but I need the hardware so I ordered one with hardware and paid the extra amount for one in good condition with hardware. When I received the bumper there was no hardware included. I called Customer service and was told there was nothing that they could do even though I had selected and ordered one with hardware. Do not order an open box item unless you are prepared to not get what you paid for.

            Already bent

I ordered my bumper in Jan (while in Afghanistan), and installed it in July when I got home. 2 months later it's leaning away from vehicle about 1.5 inches. I don't have a huge spare...285/75. I called to see if anything could be done....but only 30 warranty. Buyer beware.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

            Decent for the price

I guess for the price compared to other bumpers I really can’t complain too much. I’ve only had it on a couple weeks so I can’t attest to the longevity of the finish so we’ll have to wait and see on that. The pros- All bolt holes lined up and it bolted up easily for me. I installed it by myself and it would have taken about an hour (see cons) including removal of older bumper. It holds my 35 on a 20” rim solid and no more bouncing from a flimsy oem tire carrier. Fast shipping Cons- It was damaged in shipping, the circle/sleeve of the tire carrier was dented in shipping so it wouldn’t slide over the post... I work on the road and instead of going through the headache of returning it I just heated it up and used a pry bar to flare it back out and round enough to fit over the sleeve with a little persuasion. The tire carrier is a little hard to open now but I’m hoping over time it will loosen up and has already done so (a little bit) in the couple weeks since install. The zert for greasing the tire carrier post broke when screwing it in... I’ll have to drill it out and retap and new zert.... My tire sits at an angle... there is some adjustment built into the carrier but even with it maxed out my tire still sits at an angle and looks like it’s sagging. It’s not terrible and doesn’t bother me too much but I’m sure it would kill some people lol. I know some of the things would have been a nightmare for some people but if you’re mechanically inclined and are realistic that you’re buying a cheap product then I say go for it... if you’re looking for something beefier for your bigger tire I say go for it.. If you will have a problem with the install if something doesn’t go exactly as planned and think this is a $1000 bumper at half the price then just save your money and buy a higher end bumper.

            Rattle Rattle Rattle

The bumper really looks great and seems to be well constructed. But the tire carrier is another story. Everything is tight like it’s supposed to be but it rattles and dang near drives me mad. It definitely could be better designed. No wonder it’s not stocked anymore.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

            I like it but..

Instructions: I really do like the Barricade rear bumper, but just like with most Barricade products the instructions are not good. Luckily it is a bumper and it is pretty straight forward on what to do. The instructions are just not good, multiple times they say to use a 15mm socket and it doesn't fit and it was actually a 16mm or 18mm. Also multiple times the instructions kind of just say "Do it" and don't explain how to do something Product: Overall, I do like the bumper, it does rattle quite a bit and I am looking for a way to fix that so in the future it doesn't drive me crazy. I would still recommend this bumper, it's a good price and built well, just have to get creative with a few things.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

            Rattles and squeaks like crazy

I like the overall look of the bumper but I hav had a few issues to say the least. First, the bumper is known to hit the body of the Jeep under the tail lights which makes a squeaking noise. I had to shim it to make it fit. Next, the tire carrier stared rattling. I was able to remedy that but now it squeaks at the latch. I have greased ever metal on metal contact point on this thing and still it constantly squeaks at every bump. Finally, there is a bolt that keeps the tire from moving up and down on the swing arm. The welds on the nut snapped when I tightened it down. Contacted Extreme Terrain and was told the part can’t be ordered. Asked about the squeak and rattle and was told to shove a tennis ball between the tire and arm. Really?! That’s the recommendation on a $600 bumper?! Again, like the overall look but there are some serious design issues.

            Barricade bumper

The rear trail force HD bumper was much easier to instal that the front bumper was. Nice sturdy material and I love the textured finish on this series! 4/5 star because this bumper is NOT rated for towing. Partially my fault for not reading the fine print but a disappointment when there are cheaper options available that are rated to tow with.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

            Do not buy

The bumper is rusting all over paint chipping and they will not cover rust under the warranty I do not recommend it is only two years old
