Hey, guys. This is Sara from extremeterrain.com and today we have a review and install of the Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper, fitting your '07 through '18 Jeep Wrangler JKs. This bumper is constructed from 316 steel and features a textured black powder coat finish. This bumper includes a built-in two-inch standard hitch receiver as well as D rings with reinforced mounts. In addition to its sturdy construction, this bumper can accommodate up to a 35-inch tire. Coming in at around $330, this is a budget-friendly way to add protection to the rear of your Jeep.I'm giving this install a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It does feature a bolt-on installation and can be done in approximately one hour with the help of a friend. With that said, let's jump right into our install. For this install, we used an impact gun, a socket set ranging from 15 to 22 millimeter and an 18-millimeter wrench. All right, so the first step in our uninstall is to remove our spare tire to give us better access to the bumper. So grab your 21-millimeter socket and let's get this off our Jeep. Now we can remove the two bolts that hold the side of your bumper on. Now, factory, these should be a 16 but the ones on our truck are 17. So let's grab your socket and get these removed.Repeat that process on the other side.So you will need to remove two brackets, one on either side of your crash bar that normally bolt right here with 2 15-millimeter bolts. Ours have gone missing but if you do still have these, you will need to remove them. With all of our bolts removed, let's get our bumper off of our Jeep. All right, so we will need to remove our factory hitch in order to install our Barricade Bumper. One thing to note that on our Jeep we do have an aftermarket exhaust here that deletes the large factory muffler that will sit right up here. Now, if you're not able to get these bolts out because they are so long with your factory muffler in place, you can drop it on either side by removing it from the hangers. Or if it's easier, you can take it off at the clamp that is right behind the axle. But since ours does not have that, grab your 18-millimeter socket and remove the bolts. So one final note on our uninstall is that if your Jeep has a factory tow hook here, that will also have to come out. Ours did not so now we're ready to get our bumper installed. All right. Now that we have our factory bumper uninstalled from our Jeep we can put it side by side with our Barricade bumper, really check out some of the differences. Right off the bat, you'll notice that your Jeep bumper is almost entirely constructed of plastic and our Barricade Bumper is constructed from plate steel so you're gonna get quite a bit more durability there. In addition, this factory plastic is definitely gonna fade over time and our Barricade Bumper features a nice texture black powder coat and is gonna last quite a bit longer. Finally, you do get two additional recovery points with D rings that they have included and the hitch is also incorporated. So it's quite a bit more features to your Barricade Bumper. Before we get our bumper bolted onto our Jeep we do need to slide these brackets into your frame rail. Make sure that the bolts are on the way up. You don't want them like that. So with the bolt holes up, go ahead and slide them into your frame rail until you see them peek through these holes here. Do the same thing with the other bracket. Now we can line up our bumper. You may wanna grab a friend for this portion to do it a little easier. Grab your hardware and let's get it started.Once you have all four bolts in the outer sides of your bumper, install the four hitch bolts. You may have to wiggle your bumper a little bit to get these in.With an 18-millimeter wrench and an 18-millimeter socket, tighten these down.At this point just double check your fitment. If you're not happy with how it aligns to your Jeep, you can definitely loosen those four bolts up underneath and tweak it a little bit to your liking. But if you are happy with it, grab your 18-millimeter socket and let's tighten down the bolts on the outside. At this point, we can reinstall our tire on our Jeep. Finally, we can install our D rings. With the pins out, slide them over this tab and slide them through the threaded side. And that is gonna do it for the review and install of our Barricade Bumper. Remember, for all things Jeep, keep it at extremeterrain.com.

Spare tire leans out
The rear bump looks great and installed rather easily. The spare tire carrier unfortunately leans outward and drives me crazy. All methods to correct have failed. Would not buy the spare tire carrier in retrospect.Helpful (0)

Kinda of a waste
I've had this rear bumper on my Jeep for about 2 years now. It's ok but not great. It looks good and well built. The tire carrier swings open pretty easily and the bumper itself bolts up nicely to the frame of JK. So with all that being said, I recommend really looking at what you want out of a bumper. After 2 years, I want a couple waverunners. However, this bumper is not rated for towing. I really wish I would've paid a little more attention when I bought this. It has a receiver but it's not tow rated. Why even put a receiver on it? So in my opinion, if you're going to spend the money, shop around. This may not be the best bumper for you if you're wanting to tow.Helpful (1)

Great bumper but rusted out so quick!
Easy to install and great for the price except for the insane amount of rust after 1 year...I ended up having to replace it so it didnt destroy the frame. I wouldnt buy this again. It is worth the extra money to get a nice one the first time.Helpful (0)

Built like a Tank!
I bought one of these from Extreme Terrain about a year ago and was rear ended yesterday. The car hit me at at least 15-20 mpg. The accident just dented the bottom of the bumper slightly. Nothing a hammer wont pop out. It totaled the front of a Honda Accord however!Helpful (0)

Bumper and carrier excellent, handle not so much.
This bumper is so tough and able to carry 35s with ease. Overall it is a great tire carrier. However, the handle to it is very fragile and will come apart on its own through normal use. After a year, my handle broke apart and now I have to buy another handle which is out of stock so have to wait for a while and just tie it up so it won't come apart and hit someone behind me while driving. Overall, it is the best out there in the design, but the handle sucks a lot. I would prefer the Smittybilt design handle. That one is so much more durable.Helpful (2)

I'm receiving this today, my JKU is waiting bare to have it bolted on. However, I'm reading up for the install, and at the very bottom of the description, it says that the hitch is "not rated for towing"?! Why on earth would you include a built-in hitch that is not rated for towing?! That's kind of like having wheels that are not rated for driving on!
We do apologize that you ran into this issue! At this time Barricade does not offer an tow rated bumpers. Their hitch is intended for recovery purposes and some customers use it for accessory racks, like bike racks.
I'm interested in the Barricade rear bumper but I already have a hitch installed on my jeep. Does the bumper also come without the hitch already on it, or only with the 2" hitch built in? Thanks. I saw another question about cutting off the hitch but nothing specifically about whether or not the bumper also comes without the hitch attached. It seems like something Barricade would/should make as most jeeps already have hitches on them.
The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper has a built in 2" Receiver. this is not rated for towing and does not have a location for safety chains to attach. This is a feature added in for utilizing accessories that attach to a 2" reciever.
Will this fit with a Barricade Roof rack? I just installed a Barricade roof rack for the holidays. It required the removal of the stock bumper and tow hook. The rear mount covers the outside of the frame, how does this bumper bolt on? Thanks, Alternativeshots
It bolts onto the four holes the stock trailer hitch attached to on the frame and two holes on both sides of the frame. The driver side mounts onto the same holes that were used by the rear tow hook on my 2012 JKU.
were can I take my jeep to get this work done write at ia live in ohio zip 45005 I want it done right thank you
Thank you for your question! Since we are located in Malvern PA, we are unable to recommend shops. I would recommend searching for trusted shops on review based websites.
How does this bumper work with the Garvin Adventure Rack? The Garvin Rack is meant to integrate with the factory bumpers but do the mounting points for the rack and this bumper allow them to be both installed on the same vehicle?
The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can be utilized when installing the Garvin Adventure Rack, and would require following the directions below: http://1.cdn.lib.extremeterrain.com/guides/J25112-cust.pdf
The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can only accommodate a tire up to 35", it cannot accommodate a 37" tire.
The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper is not rating for towing. While it is a sturdy bumper, this weighted type of use is at your discretion and is not tested by the manufacturer. We suggest keeping it under 150 lbs.
At this time Barricade does not offer any option to allow a tow rating with their bumpers.
Please contact customer service, and we will get you a new handle for this!
We do not happen to offer the product in question so we have not had the chance to try and test compatibility.
The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can accommodate a spare tire up to 35", it cannot accommodate a 37" spare tire.
This bumper can accommodate up to a 35" tire.
As theBarricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper has an integrated hitch, it is not compatible with factory or aftermarket hitches. The factory hitch would need to be removed to use this bumper or the bumper will need to be modified so you can use your factory hitch. Any modifications to the bumper will void Barricade's 3 Year Limited Warranty.
We have not heard any reports of issues with law enforcement with the Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper, however you may want to check with a local police station to ensure no issues should arise.
We have not tested the Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper with the hitch cut off to see how the factory hitch would fit, and how the integrity is effected. This would void any warranty on the bumper.
