    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com. This is my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This bumper is available as you see it here or with a tire carrier option for those of you who have a larger spare tire and are looking for a better way to support it. This bumper is for those of you who are looking for the look and also the features that a plate steel bumper offers over your plastic factory rear bumper. This will provide some additional protection to the rear of the Jeep in both on road and off road situations. It also includes two D-ring mounts for recovery points and a third two-inch receiver in the center also for recovery points. This bumper, in particular, is a fairly simple design and is going to be less expensive than some of the other ones on the market, but you can still get the look and the features that you're after. This bumper is built from three-sixteenths inch steel and it's covered in a two stage textured black powder coat finish. The textured finish that this has does a nice job of matching a lot of other off road accessories that you may have added to your Jeep and also matches the factory plastic accents on the Jeep very well. The bumper includes this nice deep cutout for your spare tire. So, if you're not running the tire carrier and you do have a slightly larger than stock spare in the factory spare tire mounting location, this will give you some additional clearance so that spare tire doesn't hit the bumper when you open and close the tailgate. This bumper also has welded on D-ring mounts to give you some really nice strong recovery points. And, a nice feature about this bumper and a lot of other Barricade bumpers is that if it has D-ring mounts, it also includes the D-rings right in the box. That just keeps you from having to buy some additional parts. Another recovery point is right here in the middle. That's a two-inch receiver. Any sort of recovery tow bar that you can put into your regular two-inch receiver will go in here providing one more area for recovery. This bumper comes with all the hardware and all the brackets that you need to attach it to the Jeep. It has two nut plates that'll slide inside the frame rails and a sandwich plate that actually goes right behind this two-inch receiver, again, adding some additional strength. This whole bumper weighs in at about 83 pounds. That means it is beefy. It's strong. It's well built. It's gusseted. It's going to be plenty of strength for any on road or off road obstacles that you might throw at it. And, you can use it for recoveries all day long without the risk of damaging it. This bumper is designed to install on your Jeep very easily without the need to cut or drill anything. The first step in getting it installed on the Jeep is to remove your factory rear bumper. To do that, there are two bolts that hold that factory bumper onto the cross member and four bolts, two on each side, that hold it onto the rear frame rails. Once the factory rear bumper is removed, you'll want to remove the factory tow hook if you have one on your Jeep. That'll be on the driver side and mount right through the frame rail as well. You'll have to get that out of the way to install the nut plates that are used to install your new bumper. Once the tow hook's out of the way, you can slide the nut plates into the frame rails, then lift the bumper into place. Honestly, this is the most difficult part of installing this bumper. Because it does weight close to 85 pounds, you'll definitely want to have an extra set of hands around. Or if a friend isn't available to help, a jack and some blocks of wood or some tall jack stands will suffice. Once you have the bumper hoisted into place, you can use the included hardware to bolt through the bumper through the frame rail and into those nut plates. Once you have it snugged down but not tight, you'll install the sandwich plate which goes on the inside of the rear cross member. A couple of those bolts can be a little bit difficult to get to, but you don't have to take anything apart. You just have to use some extensions and get a little bit creative to get all the bolts installed. Once you have all of the bolts installed, you can make sure the bumper is sitting true and square and tighten everything down. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour. You won't need any specialty tools, just a good socket set. I think this bumper is really fairly priced for what you get. It's going to provide some additional protection for your Jeep on road and off road, especially when you compare it to that factory plastic bumper. It also gives you three recovery points which makes it functional off road. In my opinion, it makes your Jeep look a little bit more rough and tough and more like an off road vehicle than the plastic bumper does. If you're looking for a plate steel bumper to replace your factory plastic bumper to add some additional protection to your Jeep, add some recovery points and also add some style, I definitely recommend taking a look at this Barricade bumper. It's going to give you the style you're looking for and add some features, all while saving you some money. That's my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

I'm receiving this today, my JKU is waiting bare to have it bolted on. However, I'm reading up for the install, and at the very bottom of the description, it says that the hitch is "not rated for towing"?! Why on earth would you include a built-in hitch that is not rated for towing?! That's kind of like having wheels that are not rated for driving on!

    • We do apologize that you ran into this issue! At this time Barricade does not offer an tow rated bumpers. Their hitch is intended for recovery purposes and some customers use it for accessory racks, like bike racks.

I'm interested in the Barricade rear bumper but I already have a hitch installed on my jeep. Does the bumper also come without the hitch already on it, or only with the 2" hitch built in? Thanks. I saw another question about cutting off the hitch but nothing specifically about whether or not the bumper also comes without the hitch attached. It seems like something Barricade would/should make as most jeeps already have hitches on them.

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper has a built in 2" Receiver. this is not rated for towing and does not have a location for safety chains to attach. This is a feature added in for utilizing accessories that attach to a 2" reciever.

Will this fit with a Barricade Roof rack? I just installed a Barricade roof rack for the holidays. It required the removal of the stock bumper and tow hook. The rear mount covers the outside of the frame, how does this bumper bolt on? Thanks, Alternativeshots

    • It bolts onto the four holes the stock trailer hitch attached to on the frame and two holes on both sides of the frame. The driver side mounts onto the same holes that were used by the rear tow hook on my 2012 JKU.

How does this bumper work with the Garvin Adventure Rack? The Garvin Rack is meant to integrate with the factory bumpers but do the mounting points for the rack and this bumper allow them to be both installed on the same vehicle?

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can be utilized when installing the Garvin Adventure Rack, and would require following the directions below: http://1.cdn.lib.extremeterrain.com/guides/J25112-cust.pdf

      Barricade Trail Force rear bumper

The item is made well. One note would be the install video on your website is outdated or incorrect as are the instructions included. Your review / install video referenced a sandwich plate for bolting the hitch area to the frame. There is no plate on the packing list or included. The instructions show a bumper with a u channel that seems to go around the frame of the Jeep. Both are incorrect.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

      Broken tire Carrier

The tire carrier seized up within a month of owning the tire carrier. I live in the mountains, so we get a lot of snow but I shouldn't have my tire carrier seizing that early. Very low quality paint. It starts chipping within 6 months. Even after the tire carrier seized they wouldn't work with me for getting it replaced because it was "my" fault that their product seized up within a month.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

NOT good in the long run

I'm not the type to write reviews but the product quality was concerning. I bought this rear bumper about 11 months ago. When I received the bumper I noticed minor chipping of paint here and there. It was nothing major and I was eager to get the bumper on so I decided to keep it. Fast forward 6 months later. Some of paint started to chip off due to the weather. I live in New York so we get some really hot days, some really cold days, snow, rain, etc. I was hoping the paint would hold out but it didn't. More paint started to chip off. Regardless, I still kept the bumper because it looked good from a distance. Fast forward 11 months from the installation date. The hinge that allows the tire carrier to swing open started to rust. I went away for about a month and came back to my jeep to find that I couldn't even open my trunk. The hinge that swings the tire carrier open was completed rusted and did not open at all. I called Extreme Terrain to see if there was something they can do. They were nice but they were not able to do anything except give some tips on how to loosen the hinge. It's a shame that this bumper could not last more than a year. Going forward I recommend just purchasing a better quality bumper at a higher cost because you'll end up spending that much money anyway.

      Bad paint job

I’ve had my barricade rear bumper on for about 4 months, and i will say it looks tough and gives a new look to the back of the Jeep. However, after only 4 months There are 2 spots where the paint is chipping off. Powder coat should not be chipping at 4 months.

      Rear bumper

Great looking bumper that matches the barricade aluminum front bumper perfectly. Install took about an hour or so with the help of a buddy. Only gave it 4 out of 5 stars due to some minor fitment issues. Pushing bumper all the way forward, as designed, rubbed the corners of the pinch seam below the rear quarters. Had to pull it out a tad and add washers to the four bolts going through the rear crossmember. Not a huge deal, but not perfect either. Overall very pleased with the purchase.

      Great Product

I purchased this for my wife's jeep. Shortly after installing, someone rear ended her in traffic. The bumper didn't even show a scratch, while the other person's vehicle was crumbled. Not only visually appealing, but also increased the jeep's safety and durability.

      All Girl Install!!

This is a great buy for the money. My 14 year old daughter and I installed it ourselves. It took longer than the 2 hours estimated time, but that was due to our inexperience and trying to find the correct tools. Taking off the factory bumper was the hardest. The winch works great, the bumper looks tough and hardcore and I feel like I could knock down a tree with it. Pretty awesome.
