    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com. This is my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This bumper is available as you see it here or with a tire carrier option for those of you who have a larger spare tire and are looking for a better way to support it. This bumper is for those of you who are looking for the look and also the features that a plate steel bumper offers over your plastic factory rear bumper. This will provide some additional protection to the rear of the Jeep in both on road and off road situations. It also includes two D-ring mounts for recovery points and a third two-inch receiver in the center also for recovery points. This bumper, in particular, is a fairly simple design and is going to be less expensive than some of the other ones on the market, but you can still get the look and the features that you're after. This bumper is built from three-sixteenths inch steel and it's covered in a two stage textured black powder coat finish. The textured finish that this has does a nice job of matching a lot of other off road accessories that you may have added to your Jeep and also matches the factory plastic accents on the Jeep very well. The bumper includes this nice deep cutout for your spare tire. So, if you're not running the tire carrier and you do have a slightly larger than stock spare in the factory spare tire mounting location, this will give you some additional clearance so that spare tire doesn't hit the bumper when you open and close the tailgate. This bumper also has welded on D-ring mounts to give you some really nice strong recovery points. And, a nice feature about this bumper and a lot of other Barricade bumpers is that if it has D-ring mounts, it also includes the D-rings right in the box. That just keeps you from having to buy some additional parts. Another recovery point is right here in the middle. That's a two-inch receiver. Any sort of recovery tow bar that you can put into your regular two-inch receiver will go in here providing one more area for recovery. This bumper comes with all the hardware and all the brackets that you need to attach it to the Jeep. It has two nut plates that'll slide inside the frame rails and a sandwich plate that actually goes right behind this two-inch receiver, again, adding some additional strength. This whole bumper weighs in at about 83 pounds. That means it is beefy. It's strong. It's well built. It's gusseted. It's going to be plenty of strength for any on road or off road obstacles that you might throw at it. And, you can use it for recoveries all day long without the risk of damaging it. This bumper is designed to install on your Jeep very easily without the need to cut or drill anything. The first step in getting it installed on the Jeep is to remove your factory rear bumper. To do that, there are two bolts that hold that factory bumper onto the cross member and four bolts, two on each side, that hold it onto the rear frame rails. Once the factory rear bumper is removed, you'll want to remove the factory tow hook if you have one on your Jeep. That'll be on the driver side and mount right through the frame rail as well. You'll have to get that out of the way to install the nut plates that are used to install your new bumper. Once the tow hook's out of the way, you can slide the nut plates into the frame rails, then lift the bumper into place. Honestly, this is the most difficult part of installing this bumper. Because it does weight close to 85 pounds, you'll definitely want to have an extra set of hands around. Or if a friend isn't available to help, a jack and some blocks of wood or some tall jack stands will suffice. Once you have the bumper hoisted into place, you can use the included hardware to bolt through the bumper through the frame rail and into those nut plates. Once you have it snugged down but not tight, you'll install the sandwich plate which goes on the inside of the rear cross member. A couple of those bolts can be a little bit difficult to get to, but you don't have to take anything apart. You just have to use some extensions and get a little bit creative to get all the bolts installed. Once you have all of the bolts installed, you can make sure the bumper is sitting true and square and tighten everything down. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour. You won't need any specialty tools, just a good socket set. I think this bumper is really fairly priced for what you get. It's going to provide some additional protection for your Jeep on road and off road, especially when you compare it to that factory plastic bumper. It also gives you three recovery points which makes it functional off road. In my opinion, it makes your Jeep look a little bit more rough and tough and more like an off road vehicle than the plastic bumper does. If you're looking for a plate steel bumper to replace your factory plastic bumper to add some additional protection to your Jeep, add some recovery points and also add some style, I definitely recommend taking a look at this Barricade bumper. It's going to give you the style you're looking for and add some features, all while saving you some money. That's my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD rear bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

I'm receiving this today, my JKU is waiting bare to have it bolted on. However, I'm reading up for the install, and at the very bottom of the description, it says that the hitch is "not rated for towing"?! Why on earth would you include a built-in hitch that is not rated for towing?! That's kind of like having wheels that are not rated for driving on!

    • We do apologize that you ran into this issue! At this time Barricade does not offer an tow rated bumpers. Their hitch is intended for recovery purposes and some customers use it for accessory racks, like bike racks.

I'm interested in the Barricade rear bumper but I already have a hitch installed on my jeep. Does the bumper also come without the hitch already on it, or only with the 2" hitch built in? Thanks. I saw another question about cutting off the hitch but nothing specifically about whether or not the bumper also comes without the hitch attached. It seems like something Barricade would/should make as most jeeps already have hitches on them.

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper has a built in 2" Receiver. this is not rated for towing and does not have a location for safety chains to attach. This is a feature added in for utilizing accessories that attach to a 2" reciever.

Will this fit with a Barricade Roof rack? I just installed a Barricade roof rack for the holidays. It required the removal of the stock bumper and tow hook. The rear mount covers the outside of the frame, how does this bumper bolt on? Thanks, Alternativeshots

    • It bolts onto the four holes the stock trailer hitch attached to on the frame and two holes on both sides of the frame. The driver side mounts onto the same holes that were used by the rear tow hook on my 2012 JKU.

How does this bumper work with the Garvin Adventure Rack? The Garvin Rack is meant to integrate with the factory bumpers but do the mounting points for the rack and this bumper allow them to be both installed on the same vehicle?

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper can be utilized when installing the Garvin Adventure Rack, and would require following the directions below: http://1.cdn.lib.extremeterrain.com/guides/J25112-cust.pdf

      Trail Force Swing-Away Rear Bumper

Easy cheesy installation. Nice quality. Good price point. Very, very pleased. Getting the original rear Tow Hook removed was the biggest challenge due to seized hardware. Removal of the factory Tow Hitch was a breeze and installation of the new Bumper and Swing-Away was a breeze. Everything needed was included! Were it not for the seized hardware this entire installation would've been less than an hour. Installed by self in my garage.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

Built Solid and Priced Just Right

First of all, the package came in two shipments. The tire carrier was delivered by UPS and brought to my door and the bumper came by UPS Freight. I had to schedule time off from work just to make sure I was home to inspect the bumper. I received an email from extreme terrain to make sure that I inspect the bumper before I signed for it. When the packages came, the boxes were both pretty beat up and I was able to open and inspect them. They were both in excellent condition and well packaged so they didn’t take any damage. The removal of the OE bumper took a lot longer than expected and routing the electrical wires too. The bumper went on pretty easy and bolting it up was simple. The shaft for the tire carrier had some paint/coating on it and I had to sand off the overspray. Once I greased the shaft and the tire carrier went on very easy, bolted it down and installed the locking handle. Installing the bumper took less than an hour but removing the OE bumper and re-installing the electrical wires took a lot longer. The quality is pretty good, it’s solid and well made. The hardware is a little sketchy, I had to replace the washers because I felt they were a little thin. I should have bought this bumper a longtime ago, highly recommend.

Review from Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK)

      Decent Budget Bumper

This bumper is good for the price but expect to do some extra work to get it installed correctly. The actual install takes less than an hour. I spent almost 2 hours doing mods to get it right. I had to run a tap through the mounting plates to get all of the powder coat buildup removed just so the bolts would start. I had to hone the inside of the spare tire carrier sleeve for the same reason. There was so much powder buildup that the carrier wouldn't slide on. I had to trim the license plate bracket so the bumper wouldn't interfere. The construction seems solid and should function well. Lastly, the powder coating is garbage. It was flaking right out of the box and is THIN. It is going on a trail Jeep so not a huge deal. Plan to paint soon after install. Skip this if you want a showpiece or don't want to do maintenance. Buy it if you want a solid, functional bumper and aren't bothered by some imperfections.

      Rear bumper and tire carrier

This product was delivered perfectly wrapped. They even included rupper protectors on the edges of everything (one problem I had with my front bumper was that the edges were beat up from shipping) Everything came in the box and everything was perfect. One thing that I’d watch for is the bolt holes for the tire carrier, they don’t fit my after market rims which would have been nice to know before hand.

      Bumper review

Great product for the price...very well made noticed the welds were clean and neat unlike some of the other reviews...my husband put it on...he and a friend didn't have any trouble. Just got some D-ring isolators because I can hear them bang when on a rough road...the tire carrier is pretty heavy but doesn't move when I open it so that is another plus! Would definetly recommend this product!

      Love the look

It might rub if the body flexes at all. But it looks great. We actually added a hole in the hinge so we can lube it evey year and we added a washer under the black cap so it wouldn’t loosen the bolt when you open it. The worst part was taking all the stock stuff off!

      Great bumper!

Great bumper at a great price. I can't imagine needing anything more heavy duty than this. Installation certainly not hard, but it does take more than an hour, and you need an extra set of hands to help hold it while you get bolts started. Also, I suggest pre-threading the bolts that go into the brackets inside the frame to help them start easier, AND I used some of the packing styrofoam to hold the brackets in place, otherwise they move while you are trying to put the blots in (the brackets that go in the frame rail). Overall great quality, great fit, and a good looking bumper.

      Decent rear bumper

I gave this 4 stars only because this bumper isn't officially rated for towing. That being said, I drilled a hole on each side of the receiver for the tow hooks and have no worries about towing my small 4' X 8' trailer with my snowmobile on it.

      Very satisfied with this bumper

Very satisfied with this bumper and tire carrier, install was straightforward, you will definitely need an extra pair of hands getting bumper on most difficult thing was is getting the old bumper off. Good advice with the old tow hook rear driver side have a Sawzall ready to cut off the old bolts. And if you need a third brake light order it when you order the bumper saves time.
