I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 Side Armor fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This is available for both two-door and four-door Wranglers. So make sure you get the right one for your Jeep. This side armor is for those of you who hit the trails on the weekends and need some casual protection from the occasional bump on the trail. And also it's something that's a really useful step. If that's what you're looking for and you want something that installs really easily, these are a pretty nice option. This side armor is really well-built. It's constructed of inch-and-three-quarter diameter, .12-inch wall thickness steel, and everything is texture powder coated to resist corrosion and rust down the line. The 2-door version weighs in at about 65 pounds, and the 4-door version that you see here weighs in at about 75 pounds. There are a couple different ways that side armor can mount to the Jeep. One of those is onto the body mounts, and the other is onto the pinch seam. Well, this is the latter. These are designed to mount to the pinch seam and to the bottom of the tub without any drilling. They'll use all the factory holes and the hardware that's included in the package. The downside to side armor that mounts in this fashion is that they're not quite as strong as the armor that mounts to the body mounts. So they're a great step. They look good, and they provide some protection, but if you're out on the trail every single weekend, dragging the Jeep over rocks, you're probably gonna want something that's a little bit tougher. These are designed to be bolt-on, which makes installation really easy. They'll attach to the Jeep with the hardware that's included in the box.One thing that's important to remember is that you can't have these installed with any other side steps or even your factory ruby rails. If you're bolting them onto an '07 to 2010 JK, the holes that are in the tub are not threaded. So you'll use the threaded inserts that come in the box. If your Jeep is a 2011 to 2016, those holes are already threaded, and you won't need the inserts. The bottom line is don't be worried if you have a little bit of extra hardware left over when you're done with the installation. These do come with really good instructions, but because they span different year ranges and the installs can be a little bit different, they can get a little bit complicated to look at.Don't be afraid when you get these home to take them out of the box and hold them up to the side of the Jeep. It'll become really evident quickly which holes you'll use and if you need those threaded inserts or not. The whole installation should take you about two hours, and it will be helpful to have an extra set of hands around because, again, these things do have some weight to them. As far as tools go, you won't need anything but a normal socket set and some wrenches.I think you do get a lot of value for what you pay for these. They feel really solidly built. They look good. The coating is nice. They definitely work as a step, and they'll give you some of that casual protection that we talked about. I wouldn't expect these to work like much more expensive, much stronger side armor. Again, if you're using the Jeep every weekend on the trails and you're really beating up your armor, I would recommend getting something heavier duty that'll probably be a little bit more expensive, but for the weekend wheeler and someone who wants something that doubles as a step and that's a really easy install, these are a nice choice. So all in all, if you're looking for bolt-on side armor that will give you some protection, work as a very useful step, and change up the look of your Jeep, all without breaking the bank, I think you're looking in the right place. So that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 Side Armor fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find them right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Great product. Directions don't really help much. I was able to install by myself, but a second hand would really help. Once attached, they are super sturdy and aren't going anywhere.Helpful (1)

We recieved our side armor very nicely packedged. No problems with the product. I was very surprised at how sturdy it felt, nice and heavy, beautifully powder coated. My daughter and I put them on. It took us about 2 hours, only becuz we had to figure out how to put on the first one, the second took about 30 minutes. It looks real good on our jeep, we dont regret anything. So it's an item 2 females can put on, not difficult at all.Helpful (2)

Nice for the price
I bought theese for light armor and a side step. They look great and work as a side step. The one star off is due to horible instruction but they are not hard to put on even with out instruction.Helpful (1)

I bought these thinking I was going to get a budget product but I was surprised that these are actually really solid guards. I was able to install these by myself in less than an hour and they fit like a glove. I was also worried that I would have to remove my front mud guards but they didn't interfere. Very happy.Helpful (1)

Side armored with rock sliders
These rock sliders are very nice for the price! Texture looks and feels great. Cant wait to actually bang them off of something! They were easy to install, ONCE I had the origanals off. 1 broken bolt, good thing I am a collision technician, and have great tools. I like that they mount behind the pinch weld. Our 0lllllll0 has 287,000 miles and the pinch weld looks terrible, but dressed it up while I was there.Helpful (1)
What size bolts and washers are used with these rails? The video shows galvanized and I think black bolts and washers would look a lot better. Please advise, thanks!
The RedRock 4x4 Side Armor now uses black finished bolts, as opposed to the zinc coated bolts shown in the video. The updated hardware can be seen in our product images.
Do these still serve as a good step in winter conditions or would it be better to get the RedRock side steps?
RedRock 4x4's side step would be a better designated step in winter conditions because of its durable non-slip step pads.
Are the ends of the tubes open or closed?
The end of the tubes will be sealed on theRedRock 4x4 Side Armor.
Do they attach in front of or behind the pinch seam?
These mount in front of the pinch seam.
Do they bolt to the frame or to the pinch weld?
These bolt to the pinch weld.
These rails will have openings on the ends.
