    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the Smittybilt SRC Side Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This armor is available for both two-door and four-door Wranglers. This is for anyone looking to add some light side armor protection to their Jeep, and they're a really useful step to help them get into or out of their stock or lifted height Wrangler. Now, this armor is a little bit pricey, in my opinion, for what you get. But it does give you that light protection that we talked about, and it is a pretty good step. This side armor is built from inch and three-quarter diameter, .12-inch wall thickness steel tubing, and it's covered in this textured black powder-coated finish that will help to resist corrosion and rust down the line. It also does a good job at matching a lot of other Jeep accessories and the factory black plastic accents on your Jeep. As you can see here, it has two nice, large stepping surfaces, each that have a couple of holes drilled in them, which makes them a little bit more nonslip and adds a little bit of detail to the step. Now, these are pretty well-built. The welds look solid, and they're built of a heavy material. However, it's the way that they mount that makes me think they're not quite as strong as other armor on the market. These only mount in two locations, instead of three, on the four-door that we're looking at here, and these mount using the body bushing bolts, instead of the larger main body bolts. There's a couple of reasons that this seems to be a little bit weaker than some of the other armor on the market. These'll install pretty easily onto the Jeep because they're designed to be completely bolt-on and they actually use all of your factory hardware. Now, they do have a little bit of weight to them, and especially the four-doors that are a little bit larger mean that you'll probably wanna have an extra set of hands around or at least a tall set of jack stands to hold up the weight while you get everything lined up. The installation process is pretty straightforward. You'll remove two bolts from each of the body mounts on the front and the rear of the Jeep, put the step in place, and replace the bolts. That's all there is to it. You won't need any specialty tools at all, just a regular socket set, and the whole process shouldn't take you more than an hour. Like I said before, these are a little bit pricey for what you get, in my opinion. I would like to see these mount a little bit more securely because these are designed to be armor and give you a little bit more ground clearance. Again, in my opinion, these act more like a step than armor, even though they're called side armor and they're priced like side armor. For the same amount of money as this side armor, you could get something that is gonna hold up a little bit better, even though it might not work quite as well as a step. So if you're looking for side armor of this design and you have the budget for it, this is a really well-built piece and the finish on it is really solid. However, if you're looking to do really hardcore off-roading, I would probably take the money that you would've put into these and put them into something that is a little bit more armor-like in the way that it mounts and the ground clearance that it provides. So that's my review of the Smittybilt SRC Side Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here, at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Construction. Designed as an extra tough one-piece construction, Smittybilt's side armor is fabricated from 1.75 inch steel tubing with 0.12 inch walls and a dual girder design. The textured black powder coat finish defeats rust and gives your feet purchase when you use the armor as a step into or out of your Wrangler. The design gives your Jeep a brutally competent look.

Protection. Mounting this wheel-to-wheel side armor deflects all manner of hazards from your Wrangler's sides and undercarriage, shielding against the biggest rocks and branches a remote trail can throw at you. It also offers a solid step.

Application. These side armor pieces attach to your 2007-2018 JK Wrangler, 4-door models only, with a simple bolt-on attachment.

Great product makes easy entry on lifted jeep. Adds a tuff look also fairly easy install. One you remove stock acceserys such as ruby rails like mine had.

            solid

This is a very solid piece. i am a fairly heavy set person and when i step on it it doesn't move at all. i currently live in Virginia where it rains a lot and usually that is an issue for vehicles due to the amount of salt. i have had these on for a couple years now and they don't show any signs of corrosion or wearing out. not to mention the powder coat has held up very well keeping them protected and looking new. the only down fall i would say these have is it add's some weight and you loose some ground clearance.

Easy install (right at one hour solo). Great look with the added function of a step for the vertically challenged in the family.

            Pleased with this product

This product was easy to install (less than an hour),delivered next day (to north Fla.), and looks good on the Jeep. I like the design of the Rock Guards along with the textured black pain job. They look sturdy and weigh over 50lbs. each. I am very pleased with this product and the ordering experience.

Great product, good quality too. I was a little concerned it would be really cheap looking but its actually really good quality. With a helping hand the installation only took about 20 minutes.

            Side Armor

Took longer to get delivered than the two day shipping I was promised. It was easy enough to install by myself even though it did not come with instructions. Brings a good rugged off-road look to the car and surprisingly keeps people from parking to close to me. Really protects from door dings.

            Happiness is a step up!!

I have owned my ‘12 JK Unlimited for 3 yrs and it had Smittybilt Rocksliders on it at time of purchase. Since owning the Jeep it was a struggle for my family to get themselves into the Jeep with the lift and tire package. That is why I purchased these steps and the complaints of getting in have rapidly and drastically diminished. They are structurally sound, easy to self-install and worth every penny. I highly recommend these ready to bolt on steps if you face a similar family situation.

            Perfect for trails!!

Because there are only two attachment points instead of three I gave a four star. I also had a small issue with the passenger side not fitting due to the shipping company being careless with their freight. All in all I get compliments all the time, the duel bar and step give the side armor a beefy look.

            Makes a great step

Good looking side rails, not sure how much they will hold up on the trail but we will see. For anyone asking the yellow sticker is included in the kit but not attached to the rail. So it is optional.

This item is high quality and very easy to install. Actually took more time to take them out of the lckage than to install on my new wrangler. Highly recommend. Only improvement I saw was to add a bracket for a third body mount. While this would be nice, totally unnecessary as this product is very strong and durable

Installed these with the Bushwacker Textured Rocker Panel and Sill Plate with the help of my 16-year old son. I loved the look of these, but wish they were made to keep the Rubi rails. Did not want an unfinished look, so I found the Bushwacker Rocker Panel and Sill Plate which did the trick for me. Love the overall look and gives a nice rugged look to my Jeep.
