    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the Smittybilt SRC Side Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This armor is available for both two-door and four-door Wranglers. This is for anyone looking to add some light side armor protection to their Jeep, and they're a really useful step to help them get into or out of their stock or lifted height Wrangler. Now, this armor is a little bit pricey, in my opinion, for what you get. But it does give you that light protection that we talked about, and it is a pretty good step. This side armor is built from inch and three-quarter diameter, .12-inch wall thickness steel tubing, and it's covered in this textured black powder-coated finish that will help to resist corrosion and rust down the line. It also does a good job at matching a lot of other Jeep accessories and the factory black plastic accents on your Jeep. As you can see here, it has two nice, large stepping surfaces, each that have a couple of holes drilled in them, which makes them a little bit more nonslip and adds a little bit of detail to the step. Now, these are pretty well-built. The welds look solid, and they're built of a heavy material. However, it's the way that they mount that makes me think they're not quite as strong as other armor on the market. These only mount in two locations, instead of three, on the four-door that we're looking at here, and these mount using the body bushing bolts, instead of the larger main body bolts. There's a couple of reasons that this seems to be a little bit weaker than some of the other armor on the market. These'll install pretty easily onto the Jeep because they're designed to be completely bolt-on and they actually use all of your factory hardware. Now, they do have a little bit of weight to them, and especially the four-doors that are a little bit larger mean that you'll probably wanna have an extra set of hands around or at least a tall set of jack stands to hold up the weight while you get everything lined up. The installation process is pretty straightforward. You'll remove two bolts from each of the body mounts on the front and the rear of the Jeep, put the step in place, and replace the bolts. That's all there is to it. You won't need any specialty tools at all, just a regular socket set, and the whole process shouldn't take you more than an hour. Like I said before, these are a little bit pricey for what you get, in my opinion. I would like to see these mount a little bit more securely because these are designed to be armor and give you a little bit more ground clearance. Again, in my opinion, these act more like a step than armor, even though they're called side armor and they're priced like side armor. For the same amount of money as this side armor, you could get something that is gonna hold up a little bit better, even though it might not work quite as well as a step. So if you're looking for side armor of this design and you have the budget for it, this is a really well-built piece and the finish on it is really solid. However, if you're looking to do really hardcore off-roading, I would probably take the money that you would've put into these and put them into something that is a little bit more armor-like in the way that it mounts and the ground clearance that it provides. So that's my review of the Smittybilt SRC Side Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here, at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Construction. Designed as an extra tough one-piece construction, Smittybilt's side armor is fabricated from 1.75 inch steel tubing with 0.12 inch walls and a dual girder design. The textured black powder coat finish defeats rust and gives your feet purchase when you use the armor as a step into or out of your Wrangler. The design gives your Jeep a brutally competent look.

Protection. Mounting this wheel-to-wheel side armor deflects all manner of hazards from your Wrangler's sides and undercarriage, shielding against the biggest rocks and branches a remote trail can throw at you. It also offers a solid step.

Application. These side armor pieces attach to your 2007-2018 JK Wrangler, 4-door models only, with a simple bolt-on attachment.

    • Hello, on the Smittybilt SRC Side Armor - Black Textured (07-17 Wrangler JK 4 Door) the yellow Smittybilt sticker should be easy to remove without leaving any mark.

      Smittybilt side armor

I had quick and prompt delivery. The side armor was high quality and fit excellent. They loo great on my white Unlimited. had a chance to test them out in Big Bend Ranch state park. They have some new scratches on them but the Jeep was unaffected.

      Great product. Super easy install

The product came simply packed and with no damage. Product is super sturdy and looks great. Took longer to get the steps out of the box then it did to install on my Jeep. Great product.

      Very durable, nice coating

Bought these as side steps, have the added feature of protecting your jeep from rocks if you go on trails, or protects your jeep from other car doors from hitting. The coating is sort of shiny and textured, really cool. Installation was pretty simple, im a short dude and had the help of my even shorter sister just to hold it up while i bolted it onto the cars main frame.

      Quality and ease of installation

Did a lot of research and this is my pick, dispite what the spokes person for extreme terrain says I feel there not to expensive. There's bars are built, Granted I have done a lot of custom installs but this install to easy, life into place and tighten up the nuts.

They look good and are built solid but I'm unsure of the 2 mounting points instead of three.

Solid step with OK protection, looks good.

Solid product, built to last, easy straight forward installation, very satisfied. Just keep in mind, as mentioned in other reviews, the attachment points seem odd/weak. The rails have 2 attachment points each and slide onto 4 smaller body bolts from below, 2 located at the front and 2 at rear of the rails. The rails are held up in the air by these 4 nuts, slightly awkward to get in place but plenty strong enough for a robust step and some minor knocks. However for a similar price point some rails steps attach to the 3 much more massive body bolts on each side of the Jeep. I might have preferred a lower price point for this weaker attachment, but the rails look great and are adequate for my infrequent off road trips. I have no regrets, if you're not abusing them hard they should treat you well.

      Defect

Item was shipped freight and arrived at the end of an 8 hour delivery window. Driver's side was installed very quickly. Passenger's side is anoher story. After struggling for awhile I realized that the there was a mounting bracket that was welded on unlevel making installation impossible. To make things worse, the only way to get it replaced was to send back both and wait for a replacemet. I choose to get a refund instead. The 120 pound box did not fit in my Jeep to be able to drop off at a UPS location. I did get it there with help. Still waiting for my refund over a week later.

      Look great and easy install

Product review's spot on, look great and easy install. JK is more of daily driver, we would have some concerns if used primarily for armor for off reading with only two bolted supports to body.

      ok for looks

I rated these a 4 because there are only two points to bolt to frame. They would be much better if they had the third connection to the frame. They look good and went on really easy, no drilling or anything needed, but they are weak in the middle, would not trust if doing any serious rock crawling. Ok for light duty and as a step

      Solid Add-On

This was the first mod I purchased for my 16 Wrangler. Definitely wish I'd done a little research. It's solid, built as advertised. I wish it had 3 connection points to the Jeep (only has 2), and it seems a little pricey for what you get. It definitely looks nice and is built well - it's just not the best value out there.
