Review & Install Video
Hi. I'm Dave for extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation video for our Bestop safari top with windshield channel included. It's going to fit JKs, 2010 and up, and it's gonna be made specifically for the 4-door JKs. I do give this a one out of three wrenches on our installation rating guide. You're gonna need some simple hand tools, no drilling, which is nice, and you should be complete in less than 25 minutes. And we'll have that install for you, coming up.
If you've been looking for a solution to have the top-down feel but still having coverage from either light rain or mostly the sun, a safari top is a great solution. And since this one is specifically made for a four-seater, that's gonna be nice that you, the passenger, and your riders in the back of the cabin are going to remain comfortable, as well, and also still experience that open-air effect.
The first thing that I hope that you have noticed about this particular safari top from Bestop is the fact that the windshield channel is included. It's steel construction and it's a part of what you're going to get in the box. It is made of the same top-quality material that you would expect out of Bestop. It's gonna be mildew resistant. It's gonna have that good give to it so it's gonna be easy to put on and off. And, let's face it, with any soft top or even a bikini top, the more you get used to kind of teaching yourself how to put it on and take it off, the easier it gets over time.
Like I said at the beginning of the video, I give this installation a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Now, you don't have to do any drilling, but you are going to have to use some hand tools and a power screwdriver if you like. It should take less than 25 minutes to be able to get your top on, and that's one of the reasons it garnered the one out of three wrenches.
The first thing that you'll want to do is, obviously, take the soft top that you have presently installed and just fold it away. Now, you wanna remove the sun visors, or at least get them out of the way, and that's where you're gonna see, and just double-check, that the wind channel that you have is gonna fit into place, and you wanna make sure that it lies perfectly flat. And then, you want to be able to lay the rest of the safari top across the cabin of your Wrangler.
The next step that you're gonna do is, right around the windshield channel, is that you're basically gonna look for the hook that's there. And then, you're gonna do some simple removal of screws that are already there and putting in a couple of ledges that we have included with the kit. That's what the windshield channel is eventually going to be secured by.
The next thing that you'll wanna do is to be able to start adding your straps into place. The nice thing about these straps is that you're first gonna start, with most of them, with snaps. And then, you're going to be able to make an adjustment to ensure that you have a nice tension on your safari top so that it doesn't flap if you're doing any sort of highway driving or doing faster than off-roading. It's a nice way of ensuring that it's going to stay in place for you. After putting your straps in place, you're going to have a cable that you're going to be able to use and secure, which is going to give it some extra stability to keep that flapping down to a minimum.
If you've been doing a little price comparison out there, you know that Bestop is known as one of the premium soft top makers for aftermarket gears for Wranglers, and one of the things that you need to keep in mind with this particular soft top if you're thinking about investing in it is the fact that it does have the windshield channel included. In my opinion, that is a nice thing to have, so that when you get it home and you open the box, that everything you need, along with detailed instructions, will be included. So, there's nothing else that you have to buy, and let's face it, some of the other items that are out there, you may get the top home and not realize that you would have needed that windshield channel. Here, again, as long as you have a rig that's 2010 and up, JK, and 4-door, you're gonna be set and ready to go.
So, if you've been looking for a solution to those kind of inclement weather days, let's face it, when the season changes, sometimes you may keep having day after day of afternoon rain showers, or you may have some days where the sun is just beating down, but you hate the idea of constantly putting your factory soft top up and down, over and over again, or multiple times throughout the day, a safari top is a really nice solution because it'll keep that direct sunlight right off of you, or it'll keep any light rain that you might incur, but at the same time, still give you that nice open-air feeling. And since this is for the four-passenger JK, it's gonna be nice to be able to offer that same convenience for everybody who may be riding along with you.
I'm Dave, and that is my review of the Bestop safari top, serving JKs, 2010 and up, for the 4-door version, and you can check it out on extremeterrain.com.
