            Excellent protection

I installed a set of these specifically for the Rubicon Trail. I took a Jeep with a 3" lift and 35" tires on a trail where most people had a 4-6" lift, and 37-40" tires. I came pretty close to a high-center at least once. These skids took a beating, but my gas tank is perfect!

One of my first add on. Fit was good. Install went well. Played on the rocks and they work as they should.

            Gas tank skid plate

Heavy duty but probably doesn't weigh much more than stock because it doesn't wrap around the gas tank. There is a slight gap at the rear of the skid plate which leaves the tank exposed. Unlikely that anything would hit the tank but it may have been better to extend it one more inch. The really irritating part was that there is no connection point for the stock transfer skid plate arm. I fab'd one with some difficulty. With the elaborate brackets that they made for the other attachment points I really don't see why they left out the transfer skid attachment.

            Great delivery and great product

Pretty simple for a non-mechanic to install. Too extra time as I installed it on my own, but not too difficult.

            Great

Thick skid plate and easy installation. Part came with alittle surface rust in threads for brackets, I removed it with a wire brush and painted the threads. Great skid for price, but doesn't have bracket to screw stock transfer case skid. If you are installing the RC skid plate over the stock gas tank skid, you will be able to screw the stock transfer case skid into the stock gas tank skid, because the RC gas tank skid has a gap to allow access.

Excellent replacement for your stock skid

This skid is designed to go over the stock skid, but mine was destroyed to the point that it was flared out at the top, and rattling against the transfer case. After removing the bolts, the stock skid deformed so much, that the bolt holes were never going to line up. This RC Skid works fine without it. I had to weld in a strap of steel, in order to add a nut to mount the transfer case skid. If you can’t do this, and you remove your stock skid, you would have to lose your T-case skid. Super easy to install. As others mentioned, the instructions are hard to deal with, just follow the pictures, and you’ll be fine.

The skid plate went on well. We called tech support with a question and was helped very fast. The only issue is it would have been nice to get a sticker. Like that is important.

            Great part!

Part fits great and part looks great. The part itself deserves 5 star but due to unclear installation instructions I give it an overall 4. *BEFORE INSTALLATION! Check if your Jeep has a factory skid plate first, If so then remove it. If not then you can fit the part right over. Unfortunately I relied on the installation instructions and was not familiar if my Jeep had a factory skid plate. Long story short the gas tank fell on me and I would not like that to happen to any one else. Besides the horrible experience I totally recommend on purchasing this part for it is worth it.

            One tough skidplate

Great product, very heavy construction. I wish there was a mounting hole for the transmission/transfer case skid plate. One of the three bolts attached to the original and there were no previsions for it. Other than that It fit perfectly and is much thicker than the factory. It took about 2 hours to install, make sure the gas tank is empty if your using it in place of the original. A well placed ratchet strap to support the empty tank and a floor jack or a friend to hold the new plate in place while starting the bolts will be helpful.

            Excellent Choice

I bought this because I wanted gas tank armor but thought spending 2x - 3x as much to do so with a single plate was just stupid. Installation was easy. The more messed up your stock cover is the more difficult the installation will be since, on the 4 - door, this installs over the factory TV dinner tray the factory installed which holds the tank up and "protects it" (protects it from road hazards, maybe...) Protection: 4 stars since it is two pieces and not a single plate which is better but stupid expensive. Bang for your buck: 5 stars - It's 3/16" plate and all the vertical brackets are made of the same stuff with grade 8 bolts. Good stuff. Fit: If you put this on before you beat up the factory tin cover it will go on super easy. Probably easier than a single plate. Easier to handle. Appearance: Two pieces are not as cool looking as a single but that's the only reason for a 4 star rating. Plan on a two hour install so you can take your time and not pinch a finger. If you have useful help shave off a bit. More time needed the more the factory tin is beat up. Absolutely no regrets. I would buy this again.

            awesome skid plates

only gave 4 stars because the instructions don't tell you that the original 1 piece skid plate is holding up the gas tank. Had to use 2 ratchet straps to hold up gas tank to install the new 2 piece skid plates. which are very easy to install. took me about 3 1/2 hours to install at my house in my driveway

            Skid plate

Fit was spot on, although the instructions weren't. I have an 09 4-door wrangler, my factory skid plate rotted out after 7 winters in northwestern PA. I was able to drop out the old skid plate (dropping gas tank along with it) and this bolted right up in its place. Better than the factory equipment. Only problem is with factory support gone, no where to bolt the transmission skid plate to. I had to add a steel plate to the Rough Country plate for this. Other than that, it's a great design

VERY SOLID PROTECTION FOR YOUR GAS TANK!

I'm very impressed with the quality of this product. Ease of installation was great. Did it myself in my driveway with a jack and jackstands, took about 45 minutes total. Simple, solid protection for your gas tank. I had a one piece from another brand on a past Jeep and this was way easier to install.

            Two piece gas tank armor

It bolts over existing armor. Provided great protection - sliding across a rock on day one. Front plate was easy to install. The rear was difficult to install. The driveshaft was in the way - had to drop the rear by removing shocks to get the bolts started. There is a speed nut pair for the farthest back passenger side mount. It was not mentioned but when I realized something was missing - looked in the packing paper and it was in there. Requires patience to get that speed nut pair started. Looks good under the jeep and was probably easier to install than the one piece from a weight perspective.

The protection your J'S fuel tank really needs

I found the Rough Country skid plate to be a wise purchase to protect the underside of my JK. The two piece design allows for a one man installation in a few hours and the quality is first rate. Shipping was quick as well. Note: If you have already installed a Rugged Ridge transfer case skid plate, it will require slight modification to fit with this product. The factory skid plate requires no modification.

Could only be better if one piece construction

This was a decision I made after consulting with the staff at Extreme Terrain. I was torn between the more expensive one piece unit and the less expensive two piece design. I know now that for me I made the right decision. This shield is thick and strong and half the price of the competition. It was shipped in two separate cardboard boxes due to the size and nature of being a two piece shield. The metal is thick and strong and far exceeds the factory sheet metal. Great thing is that you leave the factory one on and install this right over it. The install was simple for the mechanic at the local garage. He made a rookie mistake by putting Jeep up on lift and starting only to discover the lift blocked the ability to put the shield on....so he got it back down and installed it in the parking lot using a floor jack and stands. The shield looks great and frankly looks like a factory piece of equipment except better....kinda what Jeep should be installing to begin with. I am very happy with this purchase and as the sales staff at Extreme Terrain said, I get to use the savings to buy other mods.
