Review & Install Video

Hey guys, I'm Ryan from Extreme Terrain and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust that fits all 2007 to 2016 Jeep JKs, both 2-door and 4-door. As you can see, the system is offered in both black and stainless finishes. This is a great exhaust for those of you who spend most of the time on the road or on light trails without a lot of tail-pipe crushing obstacles. For those of you who spend more time on the rocks, you want to look at our high-clearance exhaust systems that tuck everything up and out of the way. When you're shopping for an axle back exhaust for your Jeep, you're really looking at three factors, one being sound, of course, the second being build quality, and the third being the looks. Now, no axle back is going to provide huge power gains to your JK. The exhaust is not the most restrictive part of the system, so opening it up isn't going to give you a ton more power. And unfortunately, no axle back is going to make your V6 sound like a V8. That being said, this exhaust will give you a nice low note. You'll definitely notice more of a growl, especially during the higher RPM band when you get into the throttle getting onto an on-ramp, for instance. I give it about a two out of five on loudness. You'll get a little bit more sound, but you'll definitely notice the lower note. And when it comes to the quality of the construction, these are really solid, especially for a budget system. They don't sound tinny. They've got a nice heavy weight to them. The welds are consistent, they look really strong. And the finish is great in both black and in stainless. They use the same 409 stainless material as some of the most expensive systems, so they should hold up for you in the long run. And if you were to have any problems in the first three years, RedRock 4x4 offers a three-year warranty. And finally, visually, the systems look great. You get the dual outlet exhaust that gives your Jeep a tough look, and you get to choose between either the stainless with the polished tips, or the black to really customize the look of your rig. The install for this system could not be any easier. You need one wrench to loosen and re-tighten three different bolts, and it uses all the factory hangers. On a scale of one to five, this is definitely a one. You can probably get this done in less than an hour with normal hand tools. You don't even need to call a friend for an extra set of hands. Now if you want to see what other people are saying about this exhaust system, make sure you check out the customer-submitted reviews on the website. And if you're having trouble deciding between black or stainless, there are tons of customer-submitted pictures. So for you guys that are staying on the road or on the light trails and want that nice low exhaust note and a custom look, this is the perfect system for you. It's really well-built for the budget, and shares a lot of features with the more expensive systems that we offer. So that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust. For more reviews, check out extremeterrain.com. In the meantime, I'm Ryan, thanks for watching.

Sound and Performance. The RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust system, with it's turbo style muffler will improve your JK Wranglers exhaust flow for a noticeable increase in power and produce a deeper throatier exhaust note.

Stainless Steel Construction. Manufactured from 409 stainless steel for corrosion resistance and superior durability this RedRock 4x4 axle back features a low restriction turbo style muffler with dual tips that are completed in a satin black finish for aggressive good looks and sound.

Bolt-on Installation. RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust systems are engineered to be a direct bolt-on upgrade using just basic hand tools, so there is no cutting or modifications required for a simple straight forward installation.

Application. This RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust is specifically designed for use on 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JKs, including the 2-door and 4-door models.

  • Thank you for your question! The 2.8L CRD will have a different exhaust set up, and this would not directly bolt up without modification.

  • The RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle-Back Exhaust is a direct bolt in part with no additional parts required for all 2007-2017 Wranglers equipped with the 3.8L V6 or 3.6L V6 gas engines.

Do you recommend a cat back exhaust pipe to go with this muffler for a 2013 Wrangler 2 dr?

WilliamL

  • The remainder of the piping for a catback is not required with the RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust, however this would provide greater performance gains.

Is there any room to hang this exhaust higher than the pictures indicate? It looks like the tips rest significantly lower than the MagnaFlow exhaust, for instance.

DavidG

  • The axle back would sit as shown in the photos, you may be able to raise the exhaust is you modify the brackets to make the exhaust sit higher.

    Great mod for the $$$

I wanted to improve the look and sound of my JK without spending $500+ on a big name exhaust. This one was easy to install, looks to be of a good quality, and sounds great. It gives a nice low note grumble under acceleration but is almost unnoticeable at highway speeds. I've heard some other similar exhaust systems that sound more aggressive but this one doesn't make the Pentastar engine sound like something it's not. My one complaint is the packaging could be better to protect the parts during shipping. Mine had a couple of little dents in the muffler from bouncing around in the box with the tips and clamps. Overall this was well worth price and a great mod for my Jeep.

    Wanting to Love it...

Ok first and foremost - I am shocked how few people complaint about the exit pipes not being level. I've seen in many pics them hanging uneven...and if a mfg produces a dual exhaust is it too much to ask that the pipes be even on both sides??? That said, after some adjusting, I was able to use a hose clamp on one side (while putting a block on the high side to prevent movement) and get the pipes to where they should be. I have spent more time on trying to get them even than on install and removal of the old muffler! So that's the main 'bad' oh and besides noticing the p-coat flaking on the inside of the tailpipe extensions.... The noise is OK. I do get a slight drone around 35mph @ 1500rpm. It's certainly loud enough for me....would not want ANY louder than this. Makes the Jeep sound more like a truck, without being too obnoxious. Ok getting to the good....noticeable increase off the line! Definitely is responding better than with the stock exhaust. I have also noticed some gains in my MPG's...could be about 2mpg right now...which is another plus! Will note that my Jeep has a KandN CAI and running the Superchips tune for 93 oct and adjusted for my 35's. Overall happy but can't say this is a 'great' deal as it's far from perfect out of the box and will require some finessing to get it looking perfect on both sides...

Review from RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle-Back Exhaust (07-18 Wrangler JK)

    RedRock dual outlet exhaust

Fit of this muffler was pretty good. Had to adjust the hangers slightly. I was very pleased with the quality of the product overall. I was not pleased with the sound. I am not a fan of the thundering drone it produced, very annoying and not acceptable for the primary purpose of the vehicle which id hunting. I decided to experiment with trying to eliminate that drone. I capped off the left side outlet and that made a huge difference, I can tolerate the sound now. I still need to remove the muffler from the vehicle cut the left side outlet off and weld a patch over the hole. Considering the size of the engine the firing order and the configuration of the exhaust I believe this is about as good as it will get. Considering the above mentioned attributes of the engine there is really no need for a dual outlet other than to make more noise. I believe in spending as little as possible on exhaust system parts because they live in an environment where they are self destructing. That being said in my searches for a muffler for my jeep that would allow it to breath better I was not able to find a muffler with a single outlet that was reasonably priced, hence the reason I went with this one. I did notice slight power and fuel mileage gains after installation and this was with the left side outlet capped off. It would be nice if someone would offer a replacement muffler that is reasonably priced with a single outlet that does not have the terrible drone sound and yet enhances power and mileage.

Review from RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle-Back Exhaust (07-18 Wrangler JK)

    Terrible sound, not recommended

Both myself and spouse are not happly with the sound of this exhaust. It sounds fine at idle but during acceleration literally sounds like an under powered, struggling, overly loud and obnoxious tin can. Was very disappointed after watching the videos and reading reviews I was expecting a more mild sound as I have a Flowmaster super 40 on my other vehicle and this is almost as loud. Do not recommend.

It's not as aggressive as we were looking but has a good tone. I'm going to remove the resinator yet and give it some more flow to see if it has some better sound. Looks great and has gotten compliments.

Review from RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle-Back Exhaust (07-18 Wrangler JK)

    Good overall product

Installing this aftermarket muffler was simple. Using a crowbar to remove and install the rubber mounting brackets, along with a little lubricant spray, is the hot tip. My application was on a 2013 wrangler, so the oem muffler had not been on the vehicle for more than a couple years. The new muffler is not going to sound like dual exhaust on an 8 cylinder muscle car that I also have, but it does have a definite different sound than the quiet oem muffler. The exhaust tip brackets are unsightly. I removed them and used self tapping sheet metal screws for their application. Painting the muffler with black high heat paint was my decision to blend the muffler in with the underbody.

    The fit was great

Might have gained a little mileage and torque. The sound inside increased quite a bit but does tend to quiet down at highway speed but comes back with acceleration. Turn down tips may help this.

Review from RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle-Back Exhaust (07-18 Wrangler JK)

NIce change in sound/ Looks great!

This exhaust is a great value for those not wanting to go full bore into a Magna or Flowmaster. I have had other exhausts on my last two vehicles and the constant droll and overly loudness of the pipes was a bit of a downer. I am one of those people who wanted to change the look and sound but didnt want to double (or triple) the noise coming out of the back. This exhaust accomplished that to a T. The exhaust note is noticably deeper without being significantly louder, and at highway speeds you dont need to crank your stereo to not hear the drone. The look is great and the install took about 45 minutes- most of which was geting the stock muffler out of the rubber hangars. I opted to Coat the sheetmetal with Rust-Oleum flat black High Heat, so only the supplied tips were chrome (everything on the Jeep is black). I like the look and the sound. Definately a good bang for your buck- and easily customizable.

    Great value.

This is a very good exhaust for the money. It looks very good on my JK and sounds great. However, the installation for some reason did not go perfect. The hooks rubber hooks did not line up properly and the muffler turned and sagged. So I took it to a exhaust pro and they welded it perfect. Now Im happy ☺

    Great Look / Great Sound

Great muffler for the price. My old muffler was completely rusted, hence why it took an afternoon to install (we had to saw the factory mid pipe clamp, it was that bad). Once we finally wrestled the stock muffler off, installation was a easy. Overall, it looks great, however I wish the tips were a bit closer to the bumper. As for the sound, it adds a little extra growl, but doesn't make the 3.8 sound like something it's not. Won't wake the neighbors or anything- perfect tone for a Jeep.

    Great option for the look

After much thought I chose this exhaust. I was not looking for a lot of obnoxious noise. I was more looking for the look of a dual exhaust on the wrangler. A wrangler is not a streetcar it is not something that you drag race. I just want the look of the dual exhaust. I chose this package biased on price and ease of installation. The exhaust works great, sounds wonderfuland looks great. I did not go wrong with this choice. if you're looking for a nice rumble this exhaust does give it to you but it's not an obnoxiously loud.
