    Review & Install Video

Hey guys, I'm Ryan from Extreme Terrain and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust that fits all 2007 to 2016 Jeep JKs, both 2-door and 4-door. As you can see, the system is offered in both black and stainless finishes. This is a great exhaust for those of you who spend most of the time on the road or on light trails without a lot of tail-pipe crushing obstacles. For those of you who spend more time on the rocks, you want to look at our high-clearance exhaust systems that tuck everything up and out of the way. When you're shopping for an axle back exhaust for your Jeep, you're really looking at three factors, one being sound, of course, the second being build quality, and the third being the looks. Now, no axle back is going to provide huge power gains to your JK. The exhaust is not the most restrictive part of the system, so opening it up isn't going to give you a ton more power. And unfortunately, no axle back is going to make your V6 sound like a V8. That being said, this exhaust will give you a nice low note. You'll definitely notice more of a growl, especially during the higher RPM band when you get into the throttle getting onto an on-ramp, for instance. I give it about a two out of five on loudness. You'll get a little bit more sound, but you'll definitely notice the lower note. And when it comes to the quality of the construction, these are really solid, especially for a budget system. They don't sound tinny. They've got a nice heavy weight to them. The welds are consistent, they look really strong. And the finish is great in both black and in stainless. They use the same 409 stainless material as some of the most expensive systems, so they should hold up for you in the long run. And if you were to have any problems in the first three years, RedRock 4x4 offers a three-year warranty. And finally, visually, the systems look great. You get the dual outlet exhaust that gives your Jeep a tough look, and you get to choose between either the stainless with the polished tips, or the black to really customize the look of your rig. The install for this system could not be any easier. You need one wrench to loosen and re-tighten three different bolts, and it uses all the factory hangers. On a scale of one to five, this is definitely a one. You can probably get this done in less than an hour with normal hand tools. You don't even need to call a friend for an extra set of hands. Now if you want to see what other people are saying about this exhaust system, make sure you check out the customer-submitted reviews on the website. And if you're having trouble deciding between black or stainless, there are tons of customer-submitted pictures. So for you guys that are staying on the road or on the light trails and want that nice low exhaust note and a custom look, this is the perfect system for you. It's really well-built for the budget, and shares a lot of features with the more expensive systems that we offer. So that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 Dual Outlet Axle Back Exhaust. For more reviews, check out extremeterrain.com. In the meantime, I'm Ryan, thanks for watching.

We have been thinking about a new exhaust and do not want to get into major modifications. We took a closer look at our stock muffler and noticed it has small tack welds where it slips over the tailpipe. I would think a chisel or dremmel would takes those off fairly easy or or am I thinking wrong? Thanks!

    DavidJ

    • Below is the instaructions as provided by Redrock for the installation of this exhaust, Step 1:Loosen the factory band clamp securing the muffler assembly to the mid-pipe assembly using a 15mm socket. Note: The factory clamp is tack welded to the assembly, do not attempt to remove it completely.Step 2:Lubricate the factory hangers and remove the muffler assembly from the vehicle. Note: If having trouble removing the assembly from the factory mid-pipe, spread the slip joints on the factory pipe using a flat head screwdriver or small chisel.

Can you put other tips on the muffler itself other than the ones that come with it? If so will putting a larger tip on lower the tone at all?

    AaronR

    • You can add a different style of tip on the exhaust, you will need a tip that can accommodate 2.5" diamter pipes. The tip would not change the tone or volume of the exhaust.

I’ve ordered multiple items from Extreme and had a great experience!! Now...does this exhaust hang lower than the factory setup? Not the pipes as it appears so, but the muffler itself specifically.

    RichardC

    • This exhaust is going to hang in the same position as the factory exhaust and the muffler would also be at a similar height.

When installing should you disconnect the Jeep battery?

    HamptonT

    • No, you shouldn't need to disconnect your battery for this install since you would not be touching any electrical components.

Will it trip the check engine light?

    ElianorH

    • As this is not changing anything with the catalytic converterit would not affect the sensors. This would not cause a check engine light.

      Well made

Other than the package arriving opened and beat up - I was pleasantly surprised to find an undamaged- very well made exhaust. The 3 clamps were missing from the damaged packaging but Extreme Terrain made it right! Very happy with the purchase and quality/performance!

      Red Rock Exhast

After reading other reviews, realized that the original stock exhaust pipe needed to be trimmed about 1 inch. This allowed the Red Rock muffler to clear everything and line up. The sound, and tone, are just right.

      Better than expected

Install 10 minutes after old muffler removed. Removing the old muffler took some time. Sprayed liberally with PB Blaster over night, heat with a propane torch and used a hammer to remove old muffler. I read other reviews on the packaging, my packaging was awesome. A strong outer box, muffler wrapped and tips had their own box. Great price, perfect fit, may be a "little" louder than expected but I just got it installed, we'll see. The tips were lined up and match perfectly. Paint in great shape and it looks awesome on the Jeep.

      Too loud for my taste

I just had this muffler installed to replace the factory exhaust. The cabin noise level is now too high for my taste and there’s a low frequency rumble from underneath my Jeep from the exhaust that’s hard on the ears. The black paint is already peeling off. I’m not happy with this and I plan to replace it the first chance I get.

      Red Rock Exhaust

Very simple installation. Removing the stock exhaust was a bit difficult since the bolt on the brace was rusted. I had to cut the brace off. But this was not a problem because this product came with a new brace. Once I removed the old one, it only took about 10 minutes to install the new one.

      Excellent Upgrade

Excellent upgrade to improve the sound and look of your Jeep. Installed on 2016 Wrangler. Hardest part of entire project was cutting tips off OEM muffler hangers so they could be removed from hangers. Once removed, installation of new muffler and tips is a snap. Very deep, throaty sound. Excellent upgrade!!

      Great Product

The exhaust seems the be good quality and arrived undamaged even with a little bit skimpy packaging, for sure it wouldn’t break the bank to wrap the exhaust better and protect the hangers. Installation was a breath and took me ~15 min, in the driveway, after wrestling the old exhaust out, perfect and even fit right out off the box. The sound is personal preference, it’s nice and bubbly when idle, and quiet over 2000 rpm. Hitting the gas paddle will give you some noticeable and enjoyable sound response, but at ~1500 rpm it’s rumbling pretty loudly and can be annoying if you maintain the rpms. Currently I’m driving without roof and doors and it gets loud at 1500rpms, so I hit it too to pass the rumble. I would think the gas mileage has improved, probably 1-2 mpg on the interstate (60-75mph), for sure not a lot but with the Jeep I take what I can get.

      Dual Outlet Exhaust

Although this was easy to install, looked great and outside of the vehicle it sounded good it was too loud inside the vehicle for me as I have a slight hearing issue. Overall if you want a deeper sound than the stock it's a good option.

Great sound at a food value

This muffler is worth every penny. It has a nice low-frequency tone to it and even growls a little. The look is also nice with the dual outlets. It may not be a high-end brand, but in my opinion, it’s not worth it to pay that much unless you change other exhaust components further upstream. One problem I had ( this isn’t a knock against this product) is it did suck getting the stock exhaust off the rubber isolators. I eventually just cut off the passenger-side hanger on the stock can.

      once it's on....awesome.

Maybe I am getting to old for under jeep work. The unite shipped quickly and was in good shape when it arrived. I spent 2.5 hours horseing the old (7 yrs) muffler off. With the help of a floor Jack I was able to line up the new one and twist it on by myself. I recommend liberal amounts of WD40 the night before. The sound and look are worth every penny and hour spent. Total install about 3 hours.

      What a great system

Bought this for my son’s JK. Once the old muffler was off this RedRock system went right on with no problems at all. The sound is perfect. Deeper and louder but not annoying. My son also says his gas mileage has improved and the “Goblin” is a bit more responsive! We would recommend this system to anyone needing a new muffler, someone who wants a dual tip design and people in a budget.
