    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the Barricade Rubi Rails fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. There are versions of these rails for both two door and four door JKs, and they're available as you see them here or as an enhanced rubi rail with a step built in. These are for those of you who don't have rubi rails on your Jeep from the factory but like the finished look that they provide. Without something like this, the pinch seam on the side of the Jeep can look a little bit unfinished. These definitely finish off that look. It's important to note that these are not going to be all out rocker armor or rocker guards. These do a nice job of protecting you from door dings in the parking lot and from some light trail obstacles, but they're not going to be all out armor. In fact, the way that the mounts are designed on these, they're not going to be quite as strong as a factory rubi rail would. However, if you're somebody who's looking to finish off the look of the side of your Jeep, wants a little bit of protection, but you're having trouble finding some factory rubi rails that somebody took off with their Rubicon or Special Edition, or you're finding them and the price is just too high because of how rare they are, then these are a nice option. Even though these aren't designed to provide the level of protection you would need if you were doing hardcore off-roading or rock crawling, they are really well built, especially for what they are designed to do. They're made of a stainless steel material that's covered in a textured black powder coated finish, which is going to hold up well over time, be really durable, and I think they look pretty good. In fact, Barricade offers a three-year warranty along with these rails. These are also designed and constructed to install very easily on the Jeep without the need to drill anything. Unfortunately, the way that they're designed to mount, and specifically these mounting tabs and their construction are the reason that these don't add as much protection as they might add otherwise. If you are somebody that needs that additional protection, a lot of people choose to run these Barricade rubi rails alongside of a Barricade rock slider. The rock slider adds a ton of protection, these rubi rails add a little more protection, and they finish off the look of the finished seam. I think they work really well together. Getting these installed on a JK was really easy because they're designed to be completely bolt on. The first thing we did when we took these rubi rails out of the box was run a die over the threaded studs that are on the rails. That gets rid of any residual powder coat and ensures that you're not going to have any issues with stripping a nut while you're trying to get these installed. The Jeep we installed them on is a brand new 2016 four door, so it has threaded holes in the bottom of the tub. We did run a tap up through those holes just to make sure they didn't have any mud in them from the last off-roading trip and that they were nice and clean. Again, just to make sure we didn't strip a bolt. If you have an older JK, between 2007 and 2010, you won't have threaded holes in the bottom of the tub, but don't worry, the kit does include all the hardware that you need to install the rubi rails, so you'll have J nuts to insert in those holes and get everything bolted up without a problem. The entire installation should take you less than an hour and you won't need any specialty tools, just a socket set and some open ended wrenches. It will be helpful to have an extra set of hands around, however, because these do have a little bit of weight to them. I'm a little bit torn when it comes to talking about the price of this item. Normally, I would say that they're priced high for something that is just an aesthetic mod. And, like we said before, these are mostly aesthetic. They'll give you some light protection but they're really designed to cover up that pinch seam. However, when you look at other options of different products on the market that are designed to do the same thing and mount in the same location, they're all priced right around the same area. That's because they're competing against factory rubi rail takeoffs where there aren't that many of them and they're a little bit hard to come by. So, if you're looking for this part, if it fits into your build, if it's something that you want and you have the budget for it, I say go for it. I have nothing bad to say about the product itself. I think it's really well built and I honestly think it looks good. However, if you're looking for something that's going to offer more protection, you can either run these in conjunction with proper rock armor or jump right to the rock armor that's going to give you the protection that you need. So, that's my review of the Barricade rubi rails fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Given that these Rubi Rails mount to the pinch seam, will these work with the Hyline Side Step (#J104889), which mount directly to the frame?

    Tristan

    • The Hyline Offroad Tube Step and the Barricade Rubi Rails would not be compatible with one another due to clearance issues near the bottom of the Rubi rail.

Will they fit running 37 inch tire without modification or rubbing?

    Eric

    • Depending on the size of the lift you are running, the type of tires, and how centered your axle is you may have rubbing issues with the Barricade Rubi Rails and 37s. It is likely you may need to trim them to prevent rubbing when flexing or off roading.

Will these work as a good Hi-Lift jack point?

    TylerM

    • We do not recommend using the Barricade Rubi Rails as a Hi-Lift jack point as they're mounted to the pinch welds.

I have a 2017 2 door and was suggested to use a tap for the threads to clean them up. What size tap should I use?

    IanS

    • The Barricade Rubi Rails should utilize M8x1.25 hardware, but we recommend verifying the thread pitch prior to installation as we have seen this changed by the manufacturer in the past.

Will these rubi rails work in conjunction with RBP steps?

    MarkR

    • We have not test fit the two together however the RBP steps do not work with factory Rubi Rails and would most likely not work with these Barricade Rubi Rails either.

Will these Rubi Rails work with Red Rock 4" tubular step rail? I currently have this installed on my wrangler. Just want a more finished look.

    BrunoA

    • The Barricade Rubi Rails will install with the RedRock 4x4 step rails, however the usable area for the step bar will partially be taken up by the Rubi rails, minimizing the effectiveness of the step rail as a step.

      Acceptable Improvement

These rails drastically improve the look of the Wrangler, giving it a more finished look, as the pictures suggest. These should be standard or at least optional from the factory. I don't know how this particular brand compares to others but it's acceptable to good. My two biggest complaints are the instructions (lack of) and inconsistent fitting from one side to the other. First, these do not come with useful or correct instructions. The kit comes with two sets of bolts and washers, one for pre '12 models and one for newer models. If you have a '12 or newer you will need to use the longer skinny bolts and larger washers. Pre '12 models use the metal clips with shorter fatter bolts. The instructions do not clarify this and assume you need to use the metal clips. For newer Wranglers ignore steps 1a and 1b. The contents list on the instructions and in the picture on the website is also wrong. For a two door the list is 4 metal clips, 4 fat bolts with 4 medium washers, 4 skinny bolts with 4 large washers, 4 lock washers, 8 lock nuts and 8 small washers. Don't forget to use the washers and lock washers with the bolts since the instructions completely forget this step. It' not hard to figure out but some accurate and useful instructions would be appreciated and improve the overall quality of the product. Second, the driver side doesn't fit the same as the passenger side. The passenger side looks like it fits perfectly while the driver side has a larger gap between the body and rail towards the rear of the Jeep, up to half an inch bigger. It should be more snug with the body and doesn't fit as close to the body as the pictures suggest. It still looks good, just not as good as the passenger side and not bad enough to go through the hassle of sending it back. To a perfectionist like me though it is a noticeable annoyance. One other small complaint is the passenger side had a small gouge/scratch on the inside of the rail were the paint was off exposing bare metal. Since it isn't noticeable when installed I just added some black paint to it for protection and let it go. Overall quality and packing was good and despite the fitment issue on the driver side glad I have them installed.

Gives a finished look to the sides of your jeep

EASY install. Literally just bolts into place. The only issue we encountered was a drop of welding slag on one of the bolt threads. Not hard to clean off, but it did stop the process until we got the threads cleaned up. Otherwise just as easy as it sounded

      Nice Rails

This is my first mod for my Jeep. I mainly do light offroading on old desert and forest roads with no real aspiration to do any rock crawling so I wasn't looking for anything super heavy duty and these look to be perfect. I haven't used them yet so can't say how well they'll take a hit but they seem to be very sturdy and for the light offroading I do, I think they'll do their job. Shipping took a week to go from Pennsylvania to California so definitely can't complain there. The box though was all torn up. The rails were nicely wrapped in bubble wrap and only had a scuff or two on them. Mine also came with all the hardware, bolts, washers, clips, etc. Other reviewers for Barricade rails have had a hit or miss on the hardware. No instructions though which isn't a big deal cause they have them online. The price can't really be beat. I couldn't even find Rubi Rails on Craigslist for this cheap.

Awesome quality. Heavy duty and near perfect fitment.

Flat black powdercoat. Not a textured black like the product suggests. I bought along with the rock rails and the coating is different. Slight spacing issue even after adjustments, but I am a perfectionist so most people wouldn't even notice. Snug fitment and overall high quality product. Instructions could use some updating as bolts for a '15 JK were included, but no help to determine what hardware was what.

High quality - Heavy duty - Love the finished look

Similar to other reviewers, this was my first purchase from Extreme Terrain. Very pleased with the prompt deliver and packaging (box somewhat damaged but no damage to the product inside). Paired these with the Barricade Rock Sliders. Simple install - followed the video recommendation to use a die to strip powder coating from the screw threads. This definitely was a time saver! I installed both sides without any assistance. Once you position the Rubi Rails, they will pretty much stay in place while you attach the included hardware.

Great Rails, Great Protection at a Great Price!

I am building my jeep on a budget and these rails had such a great price on them. They shipped and arrived in a very short time. Installation was easy, they were a perfect fit and the install only took about 30 mins. The rails are very well built and will provide the protection I need while rock crawling.
