Review & Install Video
While this mesh top is well-built, it's going to be a little bit less expensive than those top-tier premium mesh tops that are on the market. So if you're somebody who's going to be running a mesh top almost year-round, you want something that's going to last and last, and you have a higher budget, maybe one of those more premium tops is going to be a better option for you. However, if you're somebody who's going to be using this a little bit more occasionally, if you're somebody who wants to save a little bit of money, this is still going to get the job done. Today, we're going to talk through the installation of this top, which is going to be a very simple one out of three wrenches. This is going to attach onto your Jeep on the sport cage using the elastic bungie cords that are included, and it is designed to come on and off when you need it to. So install is very easy and you can get this installed in about a half an hour. But we'll talk more about that installation in just a second. The whole point of a mesh top is so that you have that open-air driving experience. You still get a lot of light into your Jeep. But it's going to keep the bulk of those UV rays from beating down on you and your passengers, on top of your head on your shoulders, keeping you a little bit cooler, and a little bit more comfortable, especially if you're in one of those hotter climates. Now, this is the full-shade top, which is going to go all the way from the top of the windshield frame, all the way to the back of the Jeep, covering both the front seat and the backseat passengers. There's also a half-shade available just covering those front seat passengers if you're interested in that. This is going to be a one-piece woven PVC top that of course has a polyester binding around the outside to make sure nothing is going to fray. As you can see, it does have two built-in zippered pockets, which is really nice if you're running this top and no doors. That way, you can empty out your pocket and make sure you're not going to lose anything while you're driving down the road. As you can see over here, you have some metal rivets that are punched in around the outside of this top with those grommets built into them, so everything is going to be really strong, and you're going to have strong attachment points onto the sport cage. This does come with all of the bungie cords that you need to get this attached onto your Jeep, and as I said before, some of those more premium brands are going to use a plastic buckle and a strap system that's going to have a little bit more longevity. Eventually, these bungie cords can stretch out. Of course, you can replace them, but those straps aren't going to stretch out. The straps are going to be sewn directly onto your top, so there's no chance of losing it, where when you remove this top you do have to be careful where you put those bungie cords so you don't misplace any. Of course, the pockets are a really good spot for that. Now, on the topic of having to remove and replace this top, it does fit directly under your soft top or your hardtop without interfering with either of those. So this is something that you can leave on year-round if you choose to. Just pop your top back. You don't have to install this and uninstall this. However, if you are taking this on and off, it is going to be pretty easy. This install is going to be very, very easy. This whole top is just going to attach onto the top of the windshield frame and the rest of your sport cage with the included bungie cords. You'll start from the front and work your way to the back, pulling things tight as you go, and that's really all there is to it. No tools are necessary, no headers, nothing special, very easy install. These full-shade tops do come in at right around $120, which of course is about double the half-shade top, as you would expect, and it is going to be less expensive than some of those premium tops on the market. For around $200, you can get one of those other tops that in my opinion is going to have a little bit of a longer life to it. You are going to get those buckles and straps versus the bungie cords. So there are a few features that I do like about those. However, if you like this style, if you're not going to be using it every single day, if you're not as worried about longevity, this is still going to be a perfectly good top that's going to get the job done and save you a few dollars. So if you're looking for a quality mesh top to give you that open-air driving experience while still keeping the bulk of the sun off of you and your passengers, I think a mesh top like this is going to be a really nice option, and it'll save you some money over those premium tops on the market. So that's my review of the TruShield FullShade Top, fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
