    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the Superchips Flashcal F5, working with all 2007-2016 JKs. This is for those of you who have added larger tires onto your JK and are looking to make sure that your speedometer and odometer are accurate as well as adjusting your automatic transmission shift points for those new larger tires. If you've regeared your Jeep, this will allow you to make those adjustments as well in order to keep you from going into limp mode. And this also gives you a lot of other adjustability for everything from the TPMS system to your horn and headlight options, to your locker options if you have a Rubicon that has factory electric lockers. I really like this system because it has a screen on it which makes it really easy to use as opposed to some of the other calibrators out there on the market that just use dip switches. This is fairly priced, and you can always upgrade this if you decide that down the line, you're somebody who wants some additional tune options so that you can run a higher octane fuel and squeeze a little bit more power out of your JK. The F5 is Superchips new version of the Flashcal. The old version had a lot of the same functionality, but this one is much more sleek and modern looking. And it includes a two-and-a-half inch HD color screen which just makes using the programmer a little bit more pleasant. Now, this is the Flashcal and Superchips also has the Flashpack. The Flashpack comes preloaded with a couple of different tunes for higher octane fuel which again will allow you to get more power out of your JK. You can always update your Flashcal and turn it essentially into a Flashpack by adding those tunes at any point by going to the Superchips website, paying some additional money and downloading those tunes onto this device. These devices work by just plugging them into the OBD tube port on your JK and usually turning the key on and off, pressing the okay button a couple of times and giving you access to the main menu. From there, you'll be able to make all of the adjustments to all of the different settings that we've mentioned. So when you get this calibrator home and take it out of the box, the first thing I recommend is to plug it into your computer with the included USB cable, go to the Superchips website and download the program that allows you to update this system. From there, you'll also be able to download the free TPMS adjustment software so that you'll be able to turn this system on and off so if you're running a larger tire with lower tire pressure or you're offroading your air down. You don't have to worry about having the TPMS light on your dashboard and having that annoying dinging every time you start and turn off the Jeep. Now the main functions of this system that most of you guys are going to use is the setting for newer tires. You can adjust tire size for up to a 42-inch tire. And that's important again for a couple of different reasons. It will make sure that your speedometer and your odometer are accurate which will also affect the on-dash miles per gallon gauge. But if you're an automatic transmission guy, this will also adjust to those shift points to give you back that more stock feeling even with larger tires on the Jeep. Another setting that will get used a lot is the gear ratio setting. So if you've changed the axles on the Jeep or if you just regeared the factory axles, you'll be able to change the setting in the computer for up to a 538 gear. Which again, will make all of the adjustments for speedometer, odometer, shift points and get everything back to as much as a factory feel as you can without adding a tune or any power adders onto the Jeep. So the tire size, the gear ratio, and the TPMS system on and off are the systems that a lot of you guys are going to use the most. But that's certainly not all this can do. You have a lot of other options especially for the newer JKs as far as how long the interior and exterior lights stay on after you turn off the Jeep or when you unlock or lock it. You can also adjust whether the horn chirps when you lock and unlock the Jeep. You'll also have the opportunity if you have a Rubicon to customize the way that you can use those lockers all through the system. If you have a winch on the Jeep, you can bump up your idle with this unit to give you a little bit more amperage out of your alternator and keep the battery charged up during long hard pulls. All of these are very easy to change and to modify with this system, again, thanks to the color screen and the buttons as opposed to some of the other systems on the market that in my opinion aren't quite as easy to use. Aside from all of those calibration options that we talked about, this system will also read and clear check engine lights, which is a really nice feature to have. You don't have to run out to the parts store every time you have a check engine light to see what it is. You can read it, clear it if you want to, all from this unit which is a really, really nice feature to have. All in all, I would say that this system is really fairly priced. It gives you all of those calibration options right out of the box for under $200. The screen and the buttons make this really easy to use. It's really fast at updating the Jeep, and I have no issues with the user interface or with any of the options that it gives you. I also like the fact that this is upgradeable to essentially the Flashpack that you can pay a little bit of additional money and download those tunes for higher octane use onto your Jeep. So if you decide you want a little bit more power down the line, you can always upgrade this unit without needing to replace it. So if you've added larger tires on to your JK, regeared or you just want options to change a lot of the other conveniences and your TPMS system, this does all of that, and it does it for under $200 with a really easy to use interface. So that's my review of the Superchips Flashcal F5 working with all 2007-2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Recalibrate. So you've lifted your rig, upgraded to 37s, and re-geared to get rid of that sad, sluggish feeling during acceleration and highway driving. Now you're left 5 or 10 mph off on the speedometer, guessing at your actual speed over 40 and contemplating explaining gear ratios and speedometer calibration to an officer, if and when you're pulled over. Take the guess work and risk out of rolling around with an inaccurate speedometer with Superchip's Flashcal F5. This programmer is designed to address the most sought after Wrangler options and adjustments without breaking the bank. It easily corrects your JK's speedometer for upgraded tires, sized 26 to 42 inches, as well as axle swaps or re-gearing up to a 5.38 gear ratio, providing a more accurate and stress free ride.

High Definition. This programmer features a large, 2.8 inch high definition color screen to make adjustments simple and easy. So whether you're clearing codes, calibrating for tires, adjusting head light delays, or upgrading your TPMS options, you'll have a clear, crisp, easy to navigate image.

Key Features. Aside from recalibrating your speedometer for tires and gears, this easy to use programmer features an array of adjustable options to customize your Jeep. It even reads and clears diagnostic trouble codes, which will save you hundreds of dollars in diagnosis fees and services down the road.  Some of the available features are model specific, such as electronic locker options for Rubicons, so please review model specific notes to ensure availability for your Wrangler. Available options include:
    • Speedometer Correction for Gears & Axles up to 5.38
    • Speedometer Correction for Tires - 26 to 42 Inches
    • Read & Clear DTCs
    • Engine Idle Adjustability for Winching
    • Daytime Running Light Options
    • One Touch Lane Change
    • Horn Chirp & Exterior Lighting Flash Options on Keyless Locking
    • Head Lamp Delay Options (2011-2018 Only)
    • Accessory Delay Options (2011-2018 Only)
    • TPMS Options (Download Required)
    • ESP stability optimization (2011-2018 Automatic Trans Only)
    • Locking Axle Options in 4-Hi & 4-Low (Rubicon Only)

Easy To Use. The Flashcal F5 comes with a comprehensive instruction guide for an easy installation, and is backed by Superchips world class support. It is internet updatable and includes the necessary USB cable for connecting to your PC for the latest updates. Setting up your Flashcal for updates is simple and easy with a download of Superchip's Ignition Updater available online. Sorry MAC users, this Superchips device is PC compatible only and uses update software which does not support any MAC operating system at this time.

Application. The Flashcal F5 is designed for use on 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and JK Unlimited models including Rubicons and special editions. We highly recommend it for lifted Wranglers with axle and tire upgrades.

I Have 2 JKU's One with 35's and one with 37" Tires and I buy one Flash Cal and use it on both Jeeps or is it Vin # Specific?

    • Unfortunately, the Superchips Flashcal F5 is Vin specific. You would need two of them to calibrate both vehicles tires.

Can the SuperChips read and clear codes for any vehicle. Not just JEEP.

    • This particular Flashcal is specific to the Wrangler, it will also be locked in by the vin number on the vehicle.

Is there any difference between this unit and the one for 2012-17 JK's?

    • This Superchips Flashcal F5 will work with all 2007-17 model Wranglers. I am not sure which device you are comparing it to. Please contact us directly for more assistance with comparing tuner options! Our contact information can be found here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/contact.html.

I have a 2016 JKU Rubicon. Does this unit require a computer swap? Which level of tuner requires the swap or do all of them? If I buy this entry level model can I upgrade to the super chips trail dash 2 later?

With 35" tires and a 3.73 gear ratio on a 2013 JKUR, how much will this improve gas mileage? I'm trying to decide between the Flashcal and the Flashpaq and really dont want to spend an extra $200 for the Flashpaq just to get the "mileage" tune. With the Flashcal really make a difference in mpg just by inputting the current tire size and gear ratio?

    • There will be no difference in the actual mileage with recalibrating the computer for the tires and gears. Recalibrating for tires and gears would correct the speedometer.

      Works great

So bought this because I got bigger tires this did exactly what I wanted, calibrated the Speedo and the tachometer for the larger tires you can also shut off the tpms system for airing down. And it will do so much more..... Just be sure to update it prior to use.

      Much needed

If you have ever lifted your vehicle or added bigger tires this is a must item. Allows so many adjustments to fine tune your equipment and bring your RPM where they should be to get the best gas mileage with less stress on the engine.

I couldn’t believe what this thing could do. Stuff you would have to get a dealer to do you can do. I’m most likely going to update to get even more out of it.

      Superchips Flashcal

Simple yet it makes a big difference. I have a 2015 JKU Sport with 295/70R17 mud tires. I adjusted for the tire size which measured around 32.75 inches. I also adjusted the gear ratio to 3.21. Noticed a difference right off the bat. Doesn't feel as sluggish as before with the shift points being a lot better adjusted. Also turned on the DRL feature for the fog lights. Definitely worth the money.

      Waste of $ for manual

I tried the performance tune and quickly my 2007 Jeep developed an awful knocking and pinging noise. I had new plugs, wires, air filter, gas filter etc. And yes I used quality premium gas. The knocking and pinging got worse the more I drove (about 2 months) until I finally returned the engine tune back to stock. One back to stock the noise stopped completely, my performance improved and my mileage went up. I tried other tunes, economy, toe, crawl, no noticeable difference. I will assume from reviews I’ve read that those of you with an automatic may see improved shift points after installing larger tires or regearing. But outside of correcting the speedometer, for me it only caused my engine to run poor, used more gas and probably shortened the life of my engine. This engine is tuned to run a certain way, just because you CAN change the tune doesn’t mean you should..., Personally I wouldn’t change the tune on your engine at all. Not recommended for manual transmission.

Did what it needed to. Went to 35” tires and yes I have an automatic. Boosted gas mileage and much better shift points. Plan to upgrade gears soon so I’m all set to change that to. Great tool. A must have if upgrading your Jeep.

Bought this so i could change my tire size for an accurate speedometer and to lower the air pressure without the tpms light coming on. Really simple to use and works great. Highly recommend for anyone who is going to be going with larger tires for sure.

      Limited usefulness

Like the tire presure monitor shut-off capability, like the DRL system, do not like the axle lock system. I was looking for a lock system that would allow high range transfer case locking and low range locking capability while using only the dash mounted “stock” switch. Locking either both or either axle and having to use the flash pac to turn the system on or off every time you want to engage the system is useless in my case. I needed something that would allow lock and unlock of the stock system while in low or high range without having to use the flashpac to do it.

      Easy to use and upgradable

I like that it was upgradable online through thier website, so I upgraded to the flashpaq. Glad I did as there wasn't much value in the flashcal alone in my opinion. Not very many options for my year of wrangler. I was really looking for the DRL option which isn't an option for the 2010. Other than that, the tunes for the flashpaq are awesome. Installed in a few minutes. Lots more power. I installed this along with a CAI and sec10 throttle programmer. The combination of all three have made a big difference in sound, acceleration, and throttle response. I highly recommend it.

A little on the pricey side for what it does. Granted it will save you money over time as your Jeep will get slightly better MPG after adjusting your proper tire size.

Works perfectly - easy to use

First thing I did when I recieved the device was plug it into my laptop and update it using the "Ignition" software provided by the Superchips website. The update wasn't necessary but gave me the ability to work with the tpms more in depth regarding when the it should notify me that the pressure is too low. Plugged it in to the OBDII and it was a very straight forward device.
