    Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan with extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge front tube bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This bumper is available on both the textured black finish you see here and also a stainless finish so you can really customize the look of your Jeep. This bumper is for those of you looking to swap out the front bumper on your JK either because it's damaged or just because you want a different look but you don't need the protection and additional features offered from an off road bumper. This tube bumper gives you that old school look that a lot of you guys are after without the additional cost and weight of an off road specific bumper. While this does offer a little more protection than your plastic factory bumper, it doesn't have a lot of those other off road specific features. This bumper doesn't have a winch mount or recovery points or mounts for additional off road lights. Although it does accept the factory fog lights, which is a nice feature. If you're looking for an off road bumper that has all those other features, I would suggest taking a look at one of the other bumpers on the website. But if you're looking for a stylish upgrade of your factory bumper that keeps both cost and weight down, this is a good option. This whole package weighs in at just 48 pounds even with the included frame cover. Installing a bumper on a JK is a pretty straightforward process. The first thing you'll need to do is remove your factory bumper and pop out those factory fog light housings. Those housings will get installed in this new bumper before installing the bumper back on the Jeep. This bumper includes eight studs on the back that will slide right into the factory frame horns, and everything gets bolted together with the hardware included in the kit. Once the bumper is bolted up, you'll be able to attach the included frame cover. The entire installation should take about two hours. You won't need any specialty tools, just some sockets, but some of the nuts are difficult to get to, so having a set of extensions and universals handy will make things easier. This bumper is priced fairly for what you get. It doesn't have a lot of the features of some of those off road specific bumpers, but if you're not going to be using that functionality, this is a good way to save a couple of dollars. If you're looking to change out the front bumper on your JK and you don't have the need for a lot of those off road specific features, this is a good bumper to take a look at. It offers that old school tubular bumper look all in a well-constructed lightweight package at an affordable price. That's my review of the Rugged Ridge front tube bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Bumper Construction. Rugged Ridge's bumper is made of high quality steel construction and a rugged textured black finish. Each bumper has an E-coating that prevents rusting and pitting for the life of your JK. Every weld spot is smooth ground to eliminate rough edges that leads to rust and deterioration.

Bumper Specs. The bumper weights about 48 lbs and is built for tough love. Each bumper includes a durable powder coated finish and two locations to add and mount aftermarket lighting.

Accessories & More. This bumper gives drivers the option of installing a pair of fog lights to help illuminate the way. The design allows the lights to be out of the way and protected from hazards.

Application. This Rugged Ridge bumper is compatible on all 2007-2018 Wrangler JK models.

What are my options to mount the license plate in between the fog lights? I'd like to avoid drilling in the bumper. I just received the bumper and using the bracket (Item J14553 MPN# 11503.80) doesnt look like it's going to work for where I want to mount it. Any suggestions?

Great fit and great look for my JK. Slight interference with license plate bracket but very happy with the bumper.

      Tube Bumper

This was an easy install and looks great. I did watch a youtube video on how to take the factory bumper off. The plastic cover was a little difficult to get into place. Took about 2 hours to complete the job.

      Great look to any jeep

Just added the rear bumper and the front completes the look. Bushwhacked makes a great product. Fi sh is nice made really well and no flaws. Only had 1 problem installing, holes did not line up. One side needed to drill out the holes larger to make fit. Instructions do not tell that their other parts of the front you need to remove before installing. Still all in all worth it on my 2017 wrangler unlimited

      Love the look

Shooting for the old beach-buggy look and this is it! Great quality bumper. Only drawbacks were I had to cut about an 1/8 strip off the outside edges of the number mount point on the jeep - tolerances were too tight to fit otherwise. Other thing is the plastic cover is a little flimsy. Wish it was metal (willing to pay for a metal one if they already have one fab’d). Love the look

      Great Looking Bumper

Bought this for my 2015 Willys 2 door. Looks great! Getting lots of compliments on the textured black. Took me a few hours to install because the tools I had were not very sufficient to get into a few tough spots for original bumper removal. Once I got the original off, this new tube bumper went on quick and without any issues. Good stuff!

      Way Better than OEM

The tube front bumper looks great. It doesn't fade like the stock bumper and gets rid of the plastic. Only negative is that replacement push pins should be included with it. Once you remove the old ones you might as well throw them away. If you don't have a lift, it takes awhile to get to the bolts to remove the stock bumper but the new one goes on quickly.

      Took some fitting.

I bought a front and rear set for a 2017 2 door JK Sarhara. Both bumpers came with small "dimples" in the tubing. One on the front, and one on the back. They did NOT bolt on as per the directions and the installation videos. The rear bumper's right side mounting bracket was welded about a 1/8'' out of square, preventing it from sliding into the frame rails. That was fixed with an "adjustment" and all went fine after. The front bumper "box" that goes over the frame brackets was a 1/8' too small and some grinding of the mounts was required. Further, two of the mounting bolts on the bumper were not square when welded in and had to be "adjusted".

      Looks great

Overall I'm extremely happy with this bumper. My only complaint is that holes on the plastic frame piece did line up just right so it needed a little bit of drilling to fit correctly.

Nice look but rusted after 2 years

I purchased this front bumper and matching rear for my 2013 JK in May 2013 at a dealership because at the time I didn't have an area to do my own mods. I was looking for something inexpensive but cooler looking than a stock bumper. In hind sight I wish I choose better. Its a good, light bumper but if you live near the salt air, keep looking. I live on an east coast barrier island so rusting is a problem. I noticed some minimal spot rusting after year one winter. By year two, even though I hosed and/or washed my jeep on a weekly basis, there was wide spread surface rusting on the corner caps and where kicked up highway rocks had dinged the powder coating. By year 3, the powder coating was almost completely gone and large areas of rusting. The worst areas were on the corners of rear bumper and lower front tubes. So last spring 2016, the rusted areas and pox marks were very noticeable and unsightly. Each year since Year One, Rugged Ridge and the dealership denied a warranty return. I removed both bumpers, sanded the worst areas, applied a Rustoleum primer in hopes of slowing the spread of rusting. Then applied a rubber based rust-resistant textured painted to better the appearance. Its now year 4, I'm shopping for new bumpers because after all the work I did last year, the rust is coming through and more powder coating has come off. The underside of rear bumper corners are completely rusted through, as well as the welded bends of the front bumper.

      Luv The New Look

Like some of the others have said, it takes a lot longer to remove the stock bumper than install the new one, unless you have specialty shop tools. You will need a decent socket wrench set with extensions for torque and access, especially to get at the inside, lower driver side bolt, and maybe some penetrating lubricant to loosen it up, even if your Jeep is new with no rust like mine. The entire install, while taking my time, took about 2.5 hours, with most of the time spent removing the stock bumper. If you have a stock bumper with the tow hooks (might be just in Canada) you will not be able to reinstall them. Same with the underneath stock splash guard, at least not that I can tell so far. Also, the two plastic fasteners on the upper stock bumper cover plate have to be drilled out to be removed so you will want to pick up two new ones that do not come with the new bumper kit. The same fasteners used for the grill will work nicely. The sheet metal screws for the fog lights strip very easily so be careful. I stripped 3 of them while applying the lightest force so I replaced them with regular screws for now. The new bumper also came with only 7 instead of the required 8 sheet metal screws. 16, 12mm washers came with the new bumper but the instructions didn't show what to do with 8 of them so I installed them in front of the bolts, as per typical practices. I absolutely love this bumper and the new look. Well worth paying slightly more for this one than the cheaper versions out there. May look at replacing the rear bumper soon too.
