    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 Stubby Front Bumper with Grille Guard and Winch Mount, fitting all 2007 and up JKs. Today, we're gonna talk through the construction and some of the features of this bumper, as well as discuss how to get it installed on your Jeep. There are a few different reasons to wanna upgrade your factory plastic front bumper on your Jeep to a solid steel bumper like this one and specifically to a stubby bumper. Now, on a JK, if you're running a 37-inch tire or even a large 35, sometimes you can have clearance issues with the front tire hitting the bumper when you're turning lock to lock. So having a shorter stubby bumper will fix that problem. On top of that, a lot of you guys like the stubby bumper look. It definitely makes your Jeep look more like an off-road, aggressive Jeep. Especially if you have a narrower front fender flare, a stubby bumper really goes well with that. When you combine that with the fact that a steel bumper like this one has a lot more features and can offer protection to the front end of your Jeep, that makes this a really attractive option. This stubby bumper from RedRock 4x4 is a steel bumper that's covered in a textured black powder coat finish. It's going to help it resist rust and corrosion, as well as help it to match a lot of the factory plastic black accents on your Jeep and a lot of other aftermarket Jeep accessories that are usually this same textured black finish. This bumper does have a couple of features that I really like. One of those is the built-in winch plate. This bumper will allow you to bolt a winch to it and use it without the need to purchase any additional hardware or an additional winch plate, which just makes mounting a winch onto this bumper that much easier because there's one less step. This bumper, of course, also has a couple of D-ring mounts, and it comes with the D-rings right in the box. Those are a really nice feature, especially for a winch bumper, because it allows you to use a snatch block to a tree back to the bumper, allowing you to double your winch-pulling capacity. On top of that, this bumper, because it does have the grille guard, has this hoop up on top that has two light mount tabs on it, and the hoop is also pre-drilled for your wiring. So once you mount your light up on top, you can run the wiring through the hoop down into the bumper, making your wiring really clean. On top of that, the bumper has a couple of holes drilled in the skid plate along the bottom, just to add a little bit of additional style, they're not necessarily functional, and they'll also decrease weight a little bit. For a stubby bumper, this thing is beefy. This is a really heavy-duty bumper, which means if you do come in contact with any obstacles off-road, it's going to hold up really well, but it also means you may get a little bit of front end sag. That's usually not a concern with a shorter stubby bumper, but this thing is really, really beefy. Now, one thing that makes this bumper a little bit unique from some of the other stubby bumpers or just bumpers with grille guards on them, in general, is the fact that this grille guard or this bumper hoop, whatever you wanna call it, bolts onto the bumper. It's a separate piece. It's not welded. That means that you can purchase this bumper without the grille guard. But if you get it with the grille guard, you'll have all of the hardware that you need to bolt this on, give you a little bit of extra protection for your grille and for your winch, but also giving you a spot to mount those lights. So to get this bumper installed on your Jeep is going to be a very simple process. The first step is going to be removing your factory front bumper, which is done by removing the eight nuts that are holding it onto the frame horns, and then just giving it a pull. Before that, you will wanna remove the couple of plastic clips holding the splash guard in place and, of course, unclip your factory fog light wiring harness. Now, that is one thing to note about this bumper. This does not have provisions for your factory fog lights, so that wiring isn't going to be used unless you re-purpose it for auxiliary lights up on the hoop here. Once you have that factory bumper removed, it's a simple matter of setting your new bumper over the frame horns and use the included hardware to attach it. If you are going to be mounting a winch onto this bumper, I always recommend mounting the winch onto the bumper and then the bumper/winch as a package onto the Jeep. Once you have this bumper mounted onto the Jeep, it can very difficult to get to your winch mounting bolts, which is why I recommend attaching it to the bumper first. Now, this bumper does have the grille guard that we talked about, and that bolts on from the top with captured nuts, so you can always bolt that on after the bumper's attached to the Jeep or do it before. It really doesn't matter. Either way, this whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour, and I would give it a simple one out of three wrenches. All you're gonna need as far as tools to get this installed is a socket set and some Allen keys. RedRock 4x4 is known for making a high-quality product that won't break the bank, and I think that this is another great example of that. This bumper has a lot of the features that I would look for in a stubby front bumper. It's a stylish bumper, so it's going to look good. It's also going to be functional. All in all, I would say that this bumper is definitely worth the price you have to pay. So if you're looking to install a stubby front bumper on your JK because you need the additional clearance for large tires or you just like the stubby look, this bumper is going to provide a lot of features, a lot of style, and a lot of protection, all for not a lot of money. So that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 Stubby Front Bumper with Grille Guard and Winch Mount, fitting all 2007 and up JKs, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Ideal for Off-Road Use. Do you spend your weekends taking your JK down rough, challenging trails? If so, you may want to consider upgrading to a RedRock 4x4 Stubby Front Bumper. Being much shorter than a full width bumper, this Stubby Bumper won't block your front wheels when trying to navigate over a huge rock or a large fallen tree trunk. Another benefit is that the Stubby Bumper won't get caught up on the brush and branches that line the edge of the trail. RedRock 4x4's Stubby Bumper features a built-in winch plate that is capable of supporting a 12,000 lb. winch, an integrated grille guard hoop and two high strength D-Ring mounts with D-Rings. A RedRock 4x4 Stubby Front Bumper is ideal for the adventurous off-roader.

Heavy Duty Construction. RedRock 4x4 manufactures their Stubby Front Bumper from 5/32" mild steel plating and 2" x 0.120" tubing for superior strength and rigidity. The D-Ring mounts are welded on both the inside and the outside for extra strength. RedRock 4x4's Stubby Front Bumper is then completed in a two stage finish using epoxy pre-coating and high-grade textured black powder coating for long lasting durability.

Easy, Bolt-On Installation. RedRock 4x4 engineered their Stubby Front Bumper to be a direct bolt-on replacement for the original stock bumper reusing the factory mounting points. There is no cutting or modifications required for a clean straight forward install. Installation can be completed in about two hours with just basic hand tools and the help of a friend.

3 Year Limited Warranty. To ensure the highest quality of their materials and craftsmanship, RedRock 4x4 backs their products with a 3 Year Limited Warranty. Some exclusions may apply, please see manufacturer's warranty for details.

Application. This RedRock 4x4 Stubby Front Bumper is designed for use on all 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited models including the Rubicon.

In my state, I am required to have a license plate on the front of the car. Is there a place where it can be mounted on this?

    • Thank you for your question! We offer a couple of option for a front license plate mount depending on if you would like to attach it to the 3" bull bar, a roller fair-lead, or a hawse fair-lead. I listed all three options below. It has heavy duty D-Rings, is this suited for pulling/towing?

    • The RedRock 4x4 stubby front bumper is not rated for towing, so I would not advise towing the Jeep by the D-rings or D-ring mounts. However the D-rings would be suitable for pulling your self out of a sticking situation, such as off-roading or being winched out.

      Extremely poor craftsmanship and packaging

I'd like to start off by saying Extreme Terrain has been very assisting with review and installation videos online. My girlfriend bought this Redrock4x4 bumper for me for my 26th birthday. Right away the box looked like it fell off the container ship from China and miraculously floated it's way to my doorstep. I didn't really even put forth much effort to get into the packaging. Once I got to the directions, I noticed there were no directions just a hardware quantity count with some god awful 2001 Nextel flip phone images of what looked like a JK. Then once I got the the bumper and bull bar I noticed large gashes in the textured finish on both the bar and bumper. I kinda shrugged it off and tried to put the damage aside. As I was in mid instal I noticed only 6 of the 8 bolts would thread into the bumper. This looked like it was due to the manufactures poor quality control. I managed to get 7 of 8 into the bumper however it was stripping the threads out and I couldn't get it back out. I ended up hammering the bolt into place and left it. Overall this took me 4 hours to instal inde I took my origional bumper off. I'm a certified ASE mechanic and have been working on jeeps and other vehicles for years. For the money my girl friend spent on this 80 lb paper weight you would think the product would show up in a better packaged box without damages and garbage craftsmanship. Thankfully I had bought a bottle of Jim last week to heal the pain and aggression i had towards this instal. I am Not about to ship this 80 lb bumper back to where it came from so I hope Extreme Terrain can resolve this problem and figure out a solution before I toss this in the gutter and go back to stock.

      Great product

Excellent product, I've put other bumpers on various Jeeps and this one by far is the simplest bumper to put on. Looks good and very well built.

Easy to install and really nice bumper. I only knocked down a star because the stinger bar came with a decent scratch in it.

      Decent

This bumper has been decent so far, however if buy this bumper I would highly recommend replacing the cheese grade hardware that comes with it. I replaced the whole set of hardware for less than $5 with grade 8 nuts and bolts. Instructions are lacking, however it makes up for it in simplicity. Takes longer to remove the stock bumper than it does to attach this one. Make sure you get all fasteners loosely connected before torquing anything. There are no torque specs anywhere so give it at least one Ugga Dugga to make sure it’s gutentight. The light mounts at the top of the stinger were slightly off level, but not so much as to prevent them from being used. On that note, the mounts are 8 inches apart from center to center. This bumper is 80lbs give or take, so if you have a stock Jeep it will likely cause you to nosedive just enough to be noticeable.

      Chinese junk

The metal is thin, the skip welds are a lot more skip then weld. I actually build my own bumpers from time to time so I know a bit about this. I did not realize the jeep aftermarket had junk like this for sale. My Silverado has a Road Armor bumper which is of good quality, THis thing is just awful by comparison. Only one side of the hoop holes lined up, The opposite plate was twisted, so I had to greatly enlarge the holes to even get it to fit. My plan is to build my own and mount this thing backwards as a .22 bullet stop on the farm for the kids. I doubt that this gets published, but it is the truth.

      Good bumper until is rusts.

I love the bumper itself, but once a drop of rain hit it my bolts holding my "stinger" rusted so nasty! I can spray paint it, I don't care, but if I didn't have to that would've been ideal.
