    Review & Installation Video

Hey, guys. I'm Ryan with extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the Magnaflow Black Axle-back Exhaust fitting on 2007 to 2016 JKs. I like this exhaust system for those of you who are looking for a lower exhaust note and a little more volume from your Jeep, especially with on high RPM like when emerging into traffic. Now, if tone and volume aren't that important to you, but looks are, this is still a great example. This does come in at a higher price point, but Magnaflow has always made a premium product, and this is just another example of that. Like I said, this is a premium part. The muffler is built from 16 gauge 409 stainless. The inlet pipe is two-and-a-half inch mandrel bent tubing, so it will meet right up to your factory exhaust on the Jeep, and on the outlet side, you have dual three-and-half-inch tips. The whole thing is finished off with a black high temp coat. The muffler features the street through flow design, which does a really nice job of balancing both tone and volume. Like I said, this is quality. You can really tell when you look at the weld and when you look at the finish. Speaking of that finish, if you do a lot of off-roading or if you live in a rust belt like we do, you may eventually see a little bit of surface corrosion on the exhaust. But don't worry, it won't affect the performance. Installing one of these Axle-back systems on your JK could not be any easier. There's one bolt to remove. You take down the old system and put the new one in place. The whole install should take you less than an hour. I do have a couple of install tips. If you're having trouble getting the factory system out of the rubber hangers, you can apply a little grease. It should pop right out. Another area that you may have a little issue is if you have a lot of rust on that factory clamp, you might have some trouble getting the bolt out. If that's the case, don't be afraid to cut off that clamp. The system comes with a new one so you have everything you need to get back on the road. Now this is one of the most expensive Axle-back systems we have, but like I said before, this is a quality product. You can really see the build quality when you look at the fit and the finish, and you can tell that you're getting a premium product at a premium price. So if you're looking for an exhaust system that will give you that lower exhaust note and a little bit more volume, or you just want something to dress up the look of the rear view Jeep, this is a good system for you. It's a high-quality system at a higher price point that both looks and sounds great. So that's my review of the Magnaflow Black Axleback Exhaust fitting on 2007 to 2016 JKs, and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com

I see that it says it fits jk unlimited 7-17 but in the description it says "specifically made for 12-17". Will it still fit my 2010 jku or do I need to purchase the exhaust hanger kit for $11.49 also?

    JustinO

    • Magnaflow states that this exhaust will fit the 2007-2017 JEEP WRANGLERS 3.6L and 3.8L. Therefore it should fit all years for the JK and JKU models.

How would this compare to the flowmaster outlaw axle back? Which has a better sound and finish? What would you recommend?

    Jeremy

    • The Magnaflow Performance Series Black Axle-Back Exhaust will be a little quieter than the Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust (Item J106978) found here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/flowmaster-outlaw-axleback-black-tips-1217jk.html. Both feature an aggressive sounding exhaust, and better sound would come down to personal opinion. Both offer a 409 stainless steel construction which should prevent it from rusting through should you ever experience rust on the exhaust.

I love this exhaust on my jeep wrangler!

This exhaust looks amazing on the jeep wrangler. I have a white jeep with a lot of black, adding this made it look so much better. It gets a lot of comments because of how good the dual exhaust looks. It sounds awesome! When it starts up it sounds amazing. On the road it isn't that loud unless when speeding up. Overall i love this exhaust!

      Love it

Seems like the system was packaged well. Although I do recommend to use tape as well as staples. The bottom portion of the box when arrived to my door step opened up because the staples didn't hold well. I was able to install in ~35 minutes. Getting off the OEM pipe was the most difficult part of the entire process. Sounds very close to to OEM. Acceleration is where you really notice the difference in exhaust note. Sounds deeper and throaty at WOT. I'm a very perticular person and can't stand loud exhausts. This application is perfect.

Looks nice on my altitude edition

Looks real nice on my blacked out jeep, sounds good and deep with air raid intake system after breaking in the packing. Took me about 30 minutes total after lubeing up the stock exhaust grommets, and extreme terrain got it to me in under a week down here in Texas. I recommend this product.

      Worth the price

I agree with most comments already written about this product. I replaced my stock exhaust on '12 wrangler. I expected to get slight increase in HP and much better sound and thats exactly what I got. NOW- Jeep has a low growl with normal driving but ramps up a louder growl when you punch it. Not over the top, just right. I don't care about mpg-I am driving a beast so it's not on the top of my wish list. * I should note that I also installed a new K&N 77-1566KP PERFORMANCE COLD AIR INTAKE. Together with this Magnaflow exhaust and it sounds amazing. I would recommend this anyone looking for slight HP increase and true improved sound. It also looks great as a bonus!

      Love the LOOK!

I love the look of the dual split! The removal of the old was easy. Installing was not difficult. TIP: use a little lubricant to connect the pipes and as you get them in line the pipes will slide onto each other. It is not loud like the Bora on my Camaro but I expected that.

      High Quality Exhaust

This is a high quality product. The welds and finish are flawless and the install was easy. The most difficult part of the process was removing the factory system from the passenger side exhaust hanger. Aesthetically the Magnaflow system greatly improves the look of the Jeep from the rear. As for sound... slightly lower exhaust note with a moderate increase in volume.

      Overall Satisfied

Packaging was well thought out and very protective. Tips and can come bubble wrapped seperately, which i left on during install for added protection. Install was fairly easy as the stock exhaust was only 2 months old. Most dificult part, as others mention, is the passangers side stock hanger removal, but it wS also not complicated. I did not need special tools to remove, WD40 and long scredriver and flat bar to pry the stock support off the rubber hanger. New exhaust slipped on very easily. The new sound is muchnimproved and not too aggressive. This was my wifes Jeep and i thought she may not like the new sound but she loves it. The drone at 1200-1500 (30-40 mph range), to me, is super annoying, especially with the doors off. It resinates my ear drums, hence the 4 stars. Overall were very happy with it, though its only been on for 2 weeks. Welds are crips and very well built. Paired with a CAI, the jeep is very responsive on the trottle and it sounds sweet. Pricey, but worth it.

      Beware the dreaded rubber hangers

Several times I cursed the video's statement "installation couldn't be easier". The culprits were the grommets that support the exhaust. Even though I used ALOT of WD40, the 2014 hangers were a bear to get off. The "less than one hour" install took the better part of three hours - with more than 2 being directed at the rubber hangers. Also, on the 2014 do not try to remove the original clamp - it is tack welded on the side you can't see and will loosen, but not come off. Putting on the exhaust was a piece of cake. I really like the sound. Not overbearing or loud at idle or driving speed, but a nice low rumble. A good growl when you accelerate. I have a Banks power intake and with the exhaust the engine feels like it breathes better. If you can get past the rubber hangers, I recommend the product. Ironically, at the bottom of the Magnaflow Instructions it says that the manufacturer recommend professional installation. Now you tell me! lol. I am keeping an eye out for possible heat damage. The instructions talk about clearance to avoid heat damage, and the concern I have is the proximity of exhaust tips to the rear bumper. Hoping for no problems.

      Very well made

Has just the right amount of rumble. Not to loud , but enough volume to use in shifting, if you have a manual trans.. Sounds great when u hit the gas. Very well made, almost a piece of art. Hardest part of install was getting the old exhaust off. The black coating really looks nice on my Ruby. Well worth the extra cash. Can not really tell if there is a horse power gain. Going to add a cold air intake next and see what happens. nuff said.

      Sounds and looks mean!

This was the first mod I did to my 2009 Wrangler and I'm very happy with it! It defiantly sounds and looks a lot better than the stock exhaust. It has a nice growl at lower RPM's but isn't super loud. It took about an hour to get the stock exhaust off and about 20 minutes to get the new one on.

looks great and sounds mean at lower RPMs

I installed this exhaust in about two hours. I agree with the other reviewers that using lube on the faseners is key. Its appearance once installed improved the look of the Jeep tremendously. Looks mean! One issue I have noticed is that the exhaust pipe on the right side does on occasion hot the screw just above it on the bumper cover and has chipped the paint on the exhaust pipe tip. In terms of exhaust note...it is great at lower RPMs but does get a little buzzy at higher revs. Overall a great product.

      Great product

Bought this exhaust and coupled with a cold air intake now have much more torque. The exhaust purrs with a nice growl and when I hit the gas the growl becomes a subtle roar. Noticeable increase in horsepower and as I go through the gears the sound is great. All parts,of the exhaust fit perfectly. A little grease helps the connection and any minor adjustments.

      Great!

The exhaust was easy to install. Just a removal of the old clamp and pulling the old exhaust out. Instructions were very clear and straight forward. Some advice would be to spray the clamp and rubber bumpers with some WD-40 for a faster removal of the old exhaust. After that putting the new muffler is a breeze. The sound and the look is worth the money!!
