Make Everyone Sit Up and Take Notice. Roaring with thunderously aggressive sound, the Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust with Black Tips adds a powerful sound and rip-snorting power gains to your 2012-2018 JK Wrangler. This Outlaw system is barely tamed by mildest restriction and is about as close as you can get to a fully open exhaust system with a catalytic converter installed. Though it has the sound and strength of a true brigand, the Outlaw is still emissions legal, although you might not guess it from the exhaust note and the vigorous boost to throttle response, power, and performance. It also looks good, with a sinisterly suave black ceramic coating on its twin T304 stainless tips.

Corrosion-Proof Component. Flowmaster makes the Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust out of 16-gauge 2.5" mandrel-bent T409 stainless steel. This affordable but basically rust-proof steel is further coated with black coating. Complete with a welded baffle muffler and a pair of 304 stainless steel 4" round double wall, angle-cut, black ceramic coated tips, this Outlaw Axle-Back delivers a moderate to aggressive exhaust note with the appearance to match.

Bolt On Installation. The Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust is a bolt-on upgrade and comes with hardware and an exhaust clamp. Flowmaster backs this exhaust system with a limited lifetime warranty.

Application. The Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust with Black Tips is designed to fit all 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK with 3.6L engine, including 2-door and 4-door models.

Do you have to buy the air intake when buying the exhaust and also does the upgraded exhaust affect the gas mileage?

    Dave32

    • You do not have to purchase a cold air intake when adding theFlowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust, it's just a suggestion for items that are frequently purchased together. The addition of the axle back should not affect your gas mileage.

In reading some of the reviews, it sounds like the coating could have issues lasting for the longer term. Can the caps and/or the whole piece be powder coated for protection?

    JeffB

    • Yes, the Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust can be painted. It would be advised to use a type of paint that is able to handle high heat instead of powdercoating.

One year with the Flowmaster Outlaw

Shipped quickly. Well packaged and arrived without any damage. Easy install, hardest part was getting old muffler clamp loose. Decreases your departure angle a little. Exhaust is aggressive. At certain throttle positions it is pretty loud, just short of drone, but not so much that you can’t hear the radio. Nice “burble” when coasting. The exhaust note turns heads and gets complements.

      Decent

A few tips to throw out there for the product... 1) lock nuts with decent bolts that won't strip out when installing exhaust tips. 2) the factory exhaust had rounded off ends on the mounting points which ensured it stayed secured. This product unfortunately does not. 3) appearance. Don't know if it happened during shipping or its the way it was stored but I received the product with the paint chipped or scratched in various spots. All in all it was an easy install and I'm satisfied with the nice throaty sound the exhaust puts out.

      Flowmaster Outlaw, louder than expected

Just installed the Outlaw series flowmaster on my jk. have to say, it gets attention. sounds great at low speed and when running higher rpm's, such as passing another vehicle. But, it has a lot of drone on the highway and sounds a-bit "tinny" in the mid-range. Would I recommend the product,,,,,? Sure,,, it's doing exactly what I wanted. Making other peeps look at my awesome JK Rubicon.

      Flowmaster outlaw

Sounds great! The hardest part is taking the stock muffler off the hangers, you will need a pry bar To accomplish that. The biggest complaint is that the bolt that come with it for the tips arent made well. Thread on one of them were shallow in one area and hence unusable. The welds on the tip clamps are also very weak and one snapped off easily while tightening. I will have to weld it back on myself. If your looking for great sound this is a good product but it isn’t the best quality materials.

Good sound, if you want loud.

Overall easy project. I highly recommend using lots of lube to get the factory muffler out of the rubber hangers. Penetrating lube on the factory coupler to help break the muffler free. Sounds good, looks good and it's a nice reduction in weight. Overall project too an hour and a half.

      Nice sound

It is loud in the cab with the hardtop and doors on, not so much when she's naked. Only negative is it has an annoying drone around 40 and 60 mph. Still sounds awesome, people want to race me now and Im getting better gas mileage with the stock intake. Hopefully that will be changed soon. hardest part of the install was taking the old exhaust off. Not that I did it but I was there to hold stuff and moral support.

      Good exhaust

I went with the Outlaw Axle back hoping it would be loud. My son has the American Thunder Cat-back on his 2013 Jeep and it's louder than this Axle Back muffler alone. Anyone that says this is too loud shouldn't be changing their exhaust system in the first place. This is louder than stock with a nice Flowmaster tone but nothing near the loud systems you typically hear on larger engine sports cars (Mustang, etc) with a Flowmaster muffler. This isn't bad for the 3.6 but the drone isn't very loud and you can easily have a conversation, talk on the phone or listen to your radio without issue. Overall I'm disappointed that this wasn't louder but I'm happy with the results. The install was extremely easy with the hardest part getting the stock muffler off the rubber isolaters.

      Began Rusting Quickly

This product began rusting after one time driving on snow. It is very loud inside the cabin when traveling around 2000 RPM approx 60 MPH. Looks great and sounds very aggressive on startup and acceleration - just not satisfied with the thin powder coating. Should be made from 304 Stainless steel in my opinion.

      Aggressive and loud!

Looks great, sounds even better! I've gained additional clearance behind and the black coating gives it a nice stealthy look. The tips aren't intrusive and they stick out just fine. Quality steel and manufacturing. Disclaimer: These are LOUD inside the interior of the Jeep. So please consider carefully before purchasing. I'm already considering sound proofing the inside of my Jeep. All in all, I'm happy!

      Awesome Product

This axle-back exhaust is terrific. Provided me with just enough sound to make you look twice at my Jeep without it being too loud and annoying. Installation was very easy, even though removal of my old unit was a bit of a pain due to some rust and stubborn hangers. The small design makes the whole piece disappear under the Jeep. I love it
