Review & Install Video
I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Magnaflow Performance Series Axle-Back Exhaust fitting all 2007 to 2017 JKs. Today, we're going to talk about how this exhaust sounds and of course, how easy it is to install.
This axle-back is going to be for those of you who wants some additional volume and a lower exhaust note out of your Jeep. Now, it is important to remember that you're never going to get V8 sound from your Jeep's V6. However, this will give you a lower note and some more volume. So if that's what you're after, this is going to be a nice option. This system also provides a visual modification to the back of your Jeep by having the dual outlets instead of the single outlet of your factory exhaust.
Now, if you're somebody who is looking to replace your factory system because it's damaged, it's rusted out, or because you just want more sound and the visual mod, this is going to be a great option. However, if you are somebody who goes off-road a lot, you may want to take a look at one of the high clearance exhaust systems offered on our website because it'll keep your muffler tucked up out of the way of the rocks.
So, if you are somebody who's staying on the road more and you want the benefits of this exhaust system and you have the budget for it, because Magnaflow is known for a high quality product that is a little bit more expensive than some of the others, this is a nice option.
This system is made from 16-gauge 409 stainless steel. Now, the fact that this is stainless means it's going to hold up really well to rust and corrosion. It's not going to hold up as well as a 304 stainless, which is going to be a slightly higher quality and also a little bit more expensive. The 409 stainless that this is made out of will show some surface rust, especially if you're in area like we are in the Rust Belt in the Northeast where they use a lot of salt in the wintertime. However, even though you're going to get a little bit of surface rust on this, it's not going to completely rust through like mild steel would. And this is definitely going to hold up better than an aluminized steel would as well.
This system is made of two-and-a-half-inch Mandrel bent tubing and has three-and-a-half-inch tips that are polished and also welded right on to the system, which I think, is a nice feature. A lot of other exhaust systems on the market, they give you the tip separately that you have to clamp it in place. This comes out of the box, everything is welded, it's solid, it uses all of your factory hangers. All you need to do is pop the old system, pop the new one on, and installation is very, very easy. As I mentioned before, the guts of this system, the Magnaflow muffler in the center is what's going to provide that lower exhaust note that you're looking for.
Getting this exhaust installed on your Jeep is going to be a very simple process. In fact, you can get this whole thing done in less than an hour with traditional hand tools, maybe a little bit more if you have some additional rust. Speaking of rust, I would definitely recommend spraying the factory clamp and the factory hangers on your Jeep well before you get started with this install. It'll smooth things out drastically.
Once you have everything lubricated, you can break loose the nut on your factory clamp, and then use a pry bar to pop the factory rubber hangers off of your factory exhaust. After that, that old exhaust will come right out and the new one can be set back into place. All you'll do is slide the inlet pipe over the outlet pipe that's already on your Jeep, attach the factory rubber hangers to these new hangers, and tighten down the new clamp that's included in the system.
That's all there is to it. This could not be any easier to install. You don't have to jack up the Jeep. You don't have to remove anything. Anyone can do this in their driveway in no time.
This is going to be the most expensive axle-back system that we offer for the JK. It has the Magnaflow name on it, which has been around for a long time. They make a high quality product. Everything is welded. It looks good, although it is an exhaust and it's going to be under your Jeep. But you can tell by looking at it that it is quality that it's going to hold up really well because of the materials and the way that it was built. It also fit very easily and very well into your Jeep and into all of the factory locations using the factory hangers. There's not going to be any modifications needed.
So, if you have the budget for it, you want Magnaflow for the quality and also for the sound, I would definitely recommend going with this system. However, if all you're looking for is a dual outlet exhaust, there are some other brands on the website that might be a little bit less expensive.
So, whether you're looking to replace a smashed factory muffler, one that rusted out, or you're just looking to get a lower exhaust note and some additional volume out of your JK, an axle-back system like this is a great option. This one from Magnaflow is a little bit more expensive than some of the other ones on the market, but it's made of high quality materials, and it's going to hold up really well.
So, that's my review of the Magnaflow Performance Series Axle-Back Exhaust fitting all 2007 to 2017 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.
