Review & Install Video
A top like this is designed to keep the bulk of the sun off of the front seat passengers in your JK, and there are going to be some tops out there that will do the same thing, but are a little bit more costly. Those are going to be some premium tops that are going to hold up a little bit better. They're going to attach to the Jeep in a slightly different way, not using a bungee cord that can eventually stretch out a little bit. So if you are interested in a premium top, something that's going to last a little bit longer, and you have a higher budget, some of those other tops might be worth a look. However, if you're looking for something that you're going to use a little bit more occasionally and you want to save a little bit of money, this is still absolutely going to get the job done. Today, we're going to talk through the installation of this top, which is a very simple one out of three-wrench install. The first time may take you around a half-hour, but you're going to get faster as you remove and reinstall this top over time. This isn't going to require any major modification or tools, just the included bungee cords and straps, and we'll talk more about that install in a second. This is a woven PVC top that has a polyester lining around the outside, with your metal grommets installed. So this will install very easily onto your Jeep, using the bungee cords that are included. Up front here, you have a couple of zippered pockets, which come in really handy, especially if you're running without doors, that way you can empty your pocket ahead of time, so you're not going to lose anything while you're driving down the road. I mentioned that this does attach onto the sport cage with some bungee cords. It also comes with a couple of straps and a carabiner for up front, because the bungee cords aren't going to reach all the way around your sound bar and your sport cage on the backside. This top is designed to just cover those front seat passengers from the top of the windshield frame to your sport cage that runs across the center of the Jeep. There is, of course, a full-shade top available if you're looking to cover both your front and your rear seat passengers completely. This is going to be a very simple one out of three-wrench install. However, it may take you about a half an hour the first time you install this. Of course, every time you uninstall it and reinstall it after that, you're just going to get even quicker. Now, this can remain installed underneath your soft-top or your hardtop. But it's going to be easiest to get it installed with those tops removed. You can just start from the front, using all of the existing clips, straps, and bungee cords to attach this onto the top of the windshield frame, work your way back along the sport cage, and finish around your sound bar. Make sure everything is pulled tight, and you're finished. Again, very easy install. You won't need any tools, no headers, no drilling, and anybody could get this done in their driveway. This top is going to run you right around $65, and I don't think that's a bad price for the quality that you're getting. Of course, as I said before, there are some premium tops out there that are going to be more expensive. They're going to have a longer life. They're not going to use bungee cords that can eventually stretch out. So you are getting some benefits for those additional dollars. However, if you're looking to save a little bit of money, if you're not going to be running this thing year-round, this is still going to be very high-quality and it's definitely going to do what it's designed to do. So if you're looking for a mesh top to cover your front seat passengers, so you still have that open-air driving experience without the full force of the sun coming down on you, and you're not interested in the features that one of those more expensive premium tops offer, I think this is going to be a really nice top to look at. So that's my review of the TruShield HalfShade Top, fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
