Simple installation for anyone.
I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the Smittybilt SRC Classic Rock Crawler Rear Bumper, fitting all 1987 to 2006 Wranglers. This bumper is available as you see it here, just the bumper. It's also available as a bumper with two D-ring mounts built into it and also has the option for you to purchase this bumper with a tire carrier. So, regardless of what you're looking for on your Jeep, Smittybilt has you covered. As far as an aftermarket rear bumper goes, this is pretty much as simple as you can get. This bumper does have a two-inch receiver built into it that is tow rated, which makes it a little bit different from some of the other companies out there that don't have a tow rating for their receiver. However, other than that, this is strip down and simple. So, if you're looking for a simple look, and you're looking for a bumper that's inexpensive, this is a really nice option. Like we said, this bumper is all about simplicity. It's a steel bumper that's covered in a textured black powder coat finish to resist both rust and corrosion. It does have this tow rated two-inch receiver built into it with spots for your safety chains, which does add some function. Other than that, this is very, very simple. If you do get this bumper with the D-ring mounts on it, you get two additional recovery points that add some additional function. You can also get this bumper with a spindle and a latching mechanism that will accept Smittybilt's tire carrier, or you can get it as a full kit including the tire carrier.Tire carriers are beneficial, because if you have a larger than factory spare tire, it may not fit in the factory spare tire mount on your Jeep. And even if it does fit, the additional weight of the larger spare can cause some issues. So, getting it on to a bumper mounted carrier is a good idea. To get this bumper installed on your TJ, the first thing you'll have to do is remove your bumper end caps, and they're held on with a couple of torque screws. That will give you access to the nuts that hold the bumper onto the frame. And you'll also have to remove the two Torx bolts that hold the bumper under the frame from the underside. Once all six of those bolts are removed, the factory bumper will come off, and you can start with installing this. Now, to get this bumper installed, you wanna hold it up to the crossmember and mark the locations where you have to drill that crossmember. Now, you can drill with the gas tank in place, but be incredibly careful not to drill too far and actually make contact with the tank with your drill. Eventually, you will have to drop the tank in order to get the backing plate on the other side of the crossmember and to get the bolts in place. So it may make sense to just drop the tank before you even start drilling.Once the holes are drilled, you can put the bumper back in place, put the backing plate on the other side of the crossmember, and attach all of the bolts into the threaded holes that are in the back of the bumper. From there, you'll also replace the two bolts that hold the bumper on from the bottom of the frame rails, and you're done. The whole installation should take about three hours, give or take, because you do have to drop the tank, which makes this a little bit more of an involved install. You won't need any specialty tools to get this done, but you will need some Torx bits and a drill with some good sharp drill bits.In my opinion, this bumper is priced pretty fairly. It is very simple. However, it has a functional two-inch receiver, which, again, is tow rated where a lot of the other ones aren't. And even though the install's a little bit more involved, that's only something you have to do once, and you'll never have to do again. So, if you're looking for a simple bumper that is inexpensive, I think this is a nice option. So, that's my review of the Smittybilt SRC Classic Rock Crawler rear bumper available for all 1987 to 2006 Wranglers, that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Nice Bumper Pretty Easy Install
I bought this bumper to replace the chromed bumperettes on my 1990 YJ. one of the nice things about this bumper is that it has a Class III towing rating from the mfg. Two recovery points, three if you count the receiver mount. Smittybilt's installation instructions are decently written and the diagrams were pretty much spot on. I really appreciated their drilling template. It's sturdy and spot on. It was even better because I didn't have to drill any new holes. The factory ones aligned with the holes on the bumper. I did the install by myself without the help of a jack. Having a jack and or a helper would have made the job easier. All the bolts, washers and backing plates were well finished and went into the tapped holes perfectly. A big shout out to Smittybilt for the dabs of grease they put into those holes. It made threading the bolts in so much easier. I run 32's and the only downside is that my spare won't fit on the factory spare tire carrier on the back. It's ok because I can buy a relocator bracket.Helpful (0)

Clean and Simple
This was an easy install and a great mod. Everything fit as expected and it looks great. Clean, neat, functional, can't beat it. On a 2000 TJ, you will need to drop the fuel tank for the 4 innermost bolts, and you will need to drill holes for them. Not difficult if you have the right tools. My son and I knocked it out in a couple of hours. Would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to upgrade from their factory rear bumper.Helpful (1)

Smittybilt SRC Rear Bumper w/ D-Rings
Wow, this is one solid bumper, I was looking at being able to use the weight rated hitch and get rid of my frame mounted hitch. I would drag while going up and down hills. This bumper gives me increased ground clearance along with two more recovery points.Helpful (1)

Smittybilt Clean simple
Took me a approx. 3-4 hours to install. I wanted the full capabilities so i had remove the fuel tank, drill additional holes on the frame. The template that came with the instructions was slightly off so i made the holes slightly bigger. Since i removed the tank i went ahead and replaced the fuel pump (I recommend it). Once i did that it all went together well. Now i can place my rack on the 2" receiver or tow a small trailer if i need to. Very happy with this bumper and would recommend it.Helpful (1)

No worries install
Great looking bumper, install was easy even though I had to lower fuel tank a bit. No need to disconnect hoses except removing four screws from filler neck, tank dropped enough, 3 to 4 inches, to install center bolts. This bumper gives the simple clean look I like. Took about 2 hrs to install, old bumper was already off and I have no rust issuesHelpful (6)

Nicely packaged product. Very heavy duty, nice powder coat finish. My bumper did have chain accommodations. The drill template works perfectly for the four inner bolts. The gas tank will have to be dropped to properly torque the inner bolts. Very happy with this bumper!Helpful (6)

Good Bumper Great Price
Purchased this bumper because my "Reese Style" hitch would not allow the factory bumper to be reinstalled. The receiver in the Smittybilt bumper is a full 4-1/2" higher than the under the frame mounted hitch. Much better for trails. The bumper was very well packaged to protect it during shipment. The installation packet was complete and information was clear and easy to follow. Fit onto my Rubicon is perfect and the style looks great.Helpful (7)
Does this bumper come with trailer safety chain attach points next to the receiver? The Smittybilt SRC Classic Rock Crawler Rear Bumper (without D-Rings) has them, but this item's picture does not show any safety chain attach points.
The stock photo does not show this, but this will come with the safety chain mounts. So you can pull a trailer with some peace of mind.
The video stated that this number without D--rings is tow rated Type III and states that some drilling is required, but the product specs/description state it is no drill...just bolt on and that it is not tow rated? Please advise which is correct and towing capacity if it is indeed tow rated. I have a 2004 Wrangler TJ/TL Unlimited. Thank you in advance.
We apologize for the confusion. This Smittybilt bumper with the D-rings is tow rated and will also require some drilling for the installation. This bumper is class III tow rated.
Will my 33 12.50 spare tire fit with the bumper? WI'll the bumper touch the spare? If so is there a spacer you would recomend?
The Smittybilt SRC Rear Bumper w/ D-Rings - Textured Black (87-06 Wrangler YJ & TJ) will fit with a 33x12.5 inch tire. A spacer will definitely help if you are using a stock wheel.
How wide are the "D" ring mounts?
The d-ring mounts are 3/4" wide.
I have this bumper already installed, Is this bumper compatible with smittybilt tire carrier #76654?
No, this bumper is not compatible with the Smittybilt XRC Swing AwayTire Carrier (Smittybilt Part Number 76654).
Yes, the Smittybilt SRC Rear Bumper w/ D-Rings will be compatible with the Barricade roof rack.
The Smittybilt SRC Classic Rear Bumper includes a post for a tire carrier. While the SRC Rear Bumper does not have a post for a tire carrier and features a Class III Tow Rated trailer hitch.
This bumper comes with a class 3 hitch receiver capable of towing 10,000lbs which exceeds the max the wrangler is able to tow. This model has options to be ordered either with or without D rings, or a tire carrier.
The Smittybilt SRC Rear Bumper w/ D-Rings will accept 3/4" d-rings.
Thank you for your question! This bumper comes with hardware to install this on your Jeep.
The Smittybilt SRC Rear Bumper w/ D-Rings does not include trailer chain provisions and is not tow rated.
No this Smittybilt SRC Rear Bumper w/ D-Rings does not have a pin to accept a tire carrier. This bumper is the no tire carrier version.
You want to make sure that you use the rear bumper that the tire carrier is designed for to ensure that the tire carrier latches and is secure.
