Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review and installation of the Rugged Ridge RRC Black Rocker Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. There are two versions of this armor available, one for the two-door and one for the four-door. Today I'm gonna be telling you about the construction, some of the features, and, of course, we'll talk about the pricing of this rocker armor. This is for those of you who want some rocker protection for your Jeep and also a step that will help you to get in and out of your Wrangler. This is gonna help to protect the rocker area from door dings on the road and from some light trail articles offered. If you're looking for really heavy-duty protection, there are some other rock sliders from Barricade, for instance, that have some additional mounting points and will mount a little bit more securely. These are very similar to the Rugged Ridge rocker armor nerf bars except these have an additional bar, so it's a slightly different design. These rocker guards are built from two-inch diameter steel, that is a 0.12 inch wall thickness, which does make these very strong and they will provide some protection. They're covered in a textured black powder coat finish that looks good, will match a lot of aftermarket accessories, and even match a lot of the factory black plastic accents on your JK. Now, the reason I say these aren't quite as strong as some of the other options on the market is the number of mounts and the way that they mount. This is a four-door rocker guard and it only has two mounting points, one in the back and one in the rear. As I mentioned, some other brands, Barricade, for instance, will have three mounting points for a four-door JK. Of course, that's just gonna make things a little bit stronger. These also mount on the body bushing bolts and not on the body bolts themselves. The body bolts are much larger and stronger, where the bushing bolts are a little bit smaller. So, again, once they mount on the body bolts themselves are going to be a little bit stronger than these. These will bolt directly onto your JK without the need to drill or cut anything, which makes installation really easy. The first step is to remove that larger body bolt from the front and the rear body mounts on the side of the Jeep, which will allow you access to these smaller body bushing bolts. Once these side body bushing bolts are removed you can raise the rock slider into position and use that factory hardware to reattach it to the Jeep. Once those bolts are torqued down you can reinstall the larger body bolts with the factory large washers and you're finished. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour and you won't need any specialty tools, just a good set of sockets. Any time you're installing large armor like this, especially a piece that's for a four-door JK that's a little bit heavier, it'll certainly help to have an extra set of hands around. But if you can't find a friend to help you, you can always use a torque [SP] and a jack stand. There are a lot of different brands out there making side door armor that's very similar to this. And as I mentioned, some of those will have additional mounts and some stronger mounds. The problem is that all of these are going to be right around the same price. So it really comes down to what you want. If you like this design and you need some light protection, there's nothing wrong with these. They're a good option. If you're somebody who needs even more protection and you want something that's gonna be stronger, there are all those options are out there. So if you're looking for some rocker armor and also a step to give you some light protection both on the road and off the road, I would definitely recommend taking a look at these. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge RRC Black Rocker Guards, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Off-road Protection. Enjoy adventurous rides off road without worrying about the damages caused by rocky obstacles with Rugged Ridge RRC Black 2-door Rocker Guards. They also avoid large outcroppings with an addition of side hoops.

Durable Construction. These Rugged Ridge rocker guards are made from heavy-duty 2" x 0.120" steel tubing. They feature textured black powder-coated finish with an E-coat undercoating to resist rust and corrosion. Their black finish matches perfectly with other factory original parts.

Special Design. Jeep Wrangler rocker guards have a special frame mounted design to provide safe, bounce-free installation. This design also increase ground clearance by keeping the mounting points well above the frame.

Fitment. Rugged Ridge rocker guards are designed for 07-17 Jeep Wrangler JK 2-door models.

Do you have to remove Rubicon stock sliders when using these?

markj

  • Thank you for your question! These are frame mounted so they would be compatible with the factory rock sliders.

  • The Rugged Ridge RRC Black Rocker Guards will ytpically interfere with a high lift jack when jacking from the side of the Jeep.

    Rocker Guards

Easy installation, great look, well constructed. Took me around an hour to install (including removal of my factory side steps). I use my Wrangler as an everyday driver and the factory side steps seemed to always get in my way. These are cleaner and add a bolder look to the Jeep.

Awsome form, fit and fuction the best bang fir rhe buck

These were so easy to install it amazed me, i had a minor difficulty making one of the 16mm nuts fit onto the stud as the closeness of the hole to the side wall is tight, but i found a thinner walled socket and all was good! i love the textured black power coat finish, and the fit is near perfect since it does not interfere with the doors and there is enough room that access to the rocker panels is not obstructed. This is defineately worth the investment since there other product that are comparable in price but inferior in form, fit and function! These are not for looks alone, these are for real! keep jeep'n

    Great Choice

Seen this item on another Jeep JK and really liked it. Spoke with the guy and he seemed to have nothing but good things to say about it. I ordered a pair and installed them myself which took less than an hour to do. Have had great comments about the design and look that they give to the stance of my JK, The rails are built with great ruggedness and durability. Rugged Ridge put a lot of thought into this and its practicality. One of the best buys I've made as for a mod.

Fit is not good and they squeak

I really liker the look and price. But both sides had issues. Could not replace on factory nut on one side and the other squeaks really bad. I had them off and on twice. So I'm returning and going with something else.
