    5 Top Rated Questions

on the rough country 4' suspension lift for 89 wrangler do you have to buy longer brake lines ?

    • This kit includes brake line relocation brackets, so purchasing new brake lines is not required. If you intend to do major crawling at full articulation, upgrading to longer lines would be a worth while investment.

How does it handle on the road is same as stock

    • This will handle on road fine but will be a much rougher ride than factory.

I have an 89 YJ. I am looking to replace the existing shocks and leaf springs. The shackles that are currently on the jeep are 9 and 3/4 long. The seem to be so long that they have assisted in flattening the leaf springs over time. What shackles would you recommend with this kit?

    • Stock length shackles would be used with this kit, unless additional lift is required.

Will the shocks in this kit support an additional 1 inch Shackle lift?

    • We do not suggest altering any kits without contacting the manufacturer.

Have your 4 inch lift in and have done steering wonder, looks like my pinion angle is to hi on my front axel. Do you need shims like the rear axel to fix this problem?

    • After installation it is highly recommended to have the wrangler aligned to correct any caster and camber issues that may arise.

      Great kit!

Everything went in as described. The only thing I had to do that wasn't mentioned was cut away some material on my shifter seal, under the shifter boot. It didn't want to shift into 2nd, 4th, or reverse until I did this. Also highly recommend getting new spring bolts for the front and rear, and some shock boots.

      Fun to install

I couldn't have done it by myself, but my son and I enjoyed this two day project with a couple jack stands and decent set of wrenches. Good instructions included and plan on 12 hours if you take a lot of breaks like me and have only done this once before on an international scout. Be prepared for a few rusty bolts on a 30 year old Jeep YJ. The final product looks great and actually gave me 5 inches of life because the stock springs were sagging. Jeep fits 33's now just fine. Be sure to order the part that calibrates the speedo if you go with larger tires. 1989 Jeep YJ, 2.5 motor, 5 speed trans.

I had to do cutting on most of my bolts so in hindsight opinion bolt package should be bought also.

      Great upgrade

My 94 yj was in desperate need of a new look. In the process of installing. So far so good. All the parts are there and fast shipping. Working on an old New England Jeep is a pain. Had to order new main eye leaf spring bolts and new sway bar bolts. I am having to drill out the original sway bar bolts. If your Jeep is your only ride then consider having a pro install it.

      Rough country suspension

It was my first time doing a suspension lif and I consider myself a utube mechanic. The instructions were clear and I was successful in the instalation. My challenge was I underestimated removal of old suspension. Had to resort to cutting shackle bolts

      Great Lift

I got a 4” Rough Country Lift for my YJ and it’s been a great lift so far, improved the ride incredibly and looks nice too. I do have a small vibration now due to the driveshaft angle but nothing extreme, might be worth it to get a SYE.

      1992 YJ

I so far love the lift kit, I would just say follow the instructions and you will have to drop the transfer case and change the break lines so dont think you will get out of doing that. I would recomend it.

      Excellent lift for the money.

I installed this lift in my driveway. For the most part everything went as the instructions said. There were some small issues that I ran into but overall it was easy and efficient. You will probably need to buy a new set of bushings for your frame and I had to use the original U bolts on the front because the ones that came with the kit didn't fit on my 94 YJ. Everything else was great. I also took extreme terrain's recommendations and did the SYE and CV drive shaft. So far so good.
