    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the RedRock four by four Curved Oval Side Steps fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. There's a version of these available for the two-door and the four-door, so make sure you get the right ones for your Jeep. Today, we're gonna talk about the construction and the installation of these side steps. These are for those of you who wanna make it a little bit easier to get in and out of your stock or lifted JK but don't have the need for more expensive and much stronger armor. These are going to decrease your ground clearance a little bit, so if you're somebody who does some hardcore off-roading, these are probably not going to be the best choice, and I would recommend taking a look at some Red Rock four by four Barricade, Rugged Ridge, or Smittybilt Armor that has a built-in step with it. However, if you're just looking for some door ding protection and a step and you're not as worried about protection or losing that ground clearance, then these are an inexpensive option that'll definitely get the job done. These steps are made of a tubular stainless steel. And as you can see, these are the oval curved version of these steps. RedRock four by four also has a straight oval version that simply doesn't have these curves at the end. It's really all about styling and what you would rather see on your Jeep. These are covered in a gloss black powder coat, and whether you're getting the four-door or the two-door version, you'll have a couple of stepping pads that are non-slip that make it really easy to get in and out of the Jeep in either muddy or wet or snowy conditions. As I said before, these are going to help protect your Jeep against some door dings. But if you're somebody who's going off-road, these are not going to survive those big off-road obstacles, and they will decrease your ground clearance just a bit. Getting these installed on your Jeep is a very simple process because they're designed to bolt on completely, which means you don't have to drill anything or do any sort of cutting. Getting these installed starts with getting rid of any step that you might currently have on the Jeep, including any sort of Rubi rail or any factory step. After that, you will have a couple of brackets that will bolt onto both the pinch seam and the underside of the tub. Now, Jeep did change the tub design a little bit throughout the years, so some of you will be able to thread a bolt directly into a threaded hole in the bottom of the tub, while others will have to use the nut plate included in the hardware pack to be able to install the brackets. Either your range that you have, you're going to have all the parts necessary to get them installed in the Jeep, and you'll probably have a couple of parts left over. Don't worry, just follow the instructions carefully and you won't have any problem getting this install done. Once you have the brackets bolted onto the pinch seam and the tub, you can bolt the step onto the brackets, and then torque everything down to spec. The whole installation shouldn't take you more than two hours to get both sides installed, and you won't need any specialty tools, just a good set of sockets. I would, however, recommend having a tap and die set handy because the threaded hole in the bottom of the tub, if you have one, can get some mud and rust in it, so running a tap up through it will help to clean it out and keep you from cross-threading any bolts. Also, the brackets that are included in the kit can have a little bit of powder coating on the thread. So if you have the proper die, running it over those threads, again, will help you to keep from cross threading anything. In my opinion, these are very fairly priced for what you get. There are a lot of side steps out there that look very similar to these ones, and they're all right around the same price range. These are going to be toward the bottom of that price range, but they'll certainly get the job done. They're a simple step that are well built and, in my opinion, they look pretty good. So, if you're looking to make it a little easier to get in and out of your stock or lifted JK and you don't have the need for more expensive, stronger armor, this is going to be a really nice option. So, that's my review of the RedRock four by four Curved Oval Side Step fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Dual Function. RedRock 4x4's 4 inch Oval Side Steps will give your 2-door JK Wrangler an aggressive off-road appearance while providing a convenient step for easy entry into your lifted vehicle. Plus these Side Steps also double as side armor to provide additional protection from brush, trail hazards and door dings.

Heavy Duty Construction. Manufactured from heavy duty 4" diameter oval stainless steel tubing, these RedRock 4x4 Side Steps are completed in a gloss black powder coat finish for aggressive good looks and long lasting corrosion resistance.

Easy, Bolt-on Installation. The RedRock 4x4 Wrangler Side Step is engineered to be a direct bolt-on upgrade using just basic hand tools, so there is no drilling or cutting required for a clean straight forward installation.

Application. This RedRock 4x4 Wrangler 4" Oval Side Step is designed to fit 2007-2018 2-door Jeep Wrangler JKs. Includes driver and passenger side.

    • The RedRock 4x4 4 in. Curved Oval Side Steps are sold in pairs, so it will include both the passenger and drivers side. There is always a "Whats in the Box" section on our item pages as well, should you have any questions on what is included on other products as well.

Will this fit my 2016 Willys Wrangler without having to remove the factory fitted rock rails. If not is there a product that will? thanks

    • Unfortunately the RedRock 4x4 4 in. Straight Oval Side Step - Textured Black (07-17 Wrangler JK 2 Door) will not fit with your factory rock rails. An Item that should work with your factory rock rails would be the BARRICADE ROCK SLIDERS (07-17 WRANGLER JK 2 DOOR); Item #J100288, Which can be found here: http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-rock-sliders-jk-j100288.html.

Good One Size Fits Most Design

This was one of my first installs. My partner is on the short size and I needed to be able to help them get in the Jeep. The instructions left a bit to be figured out by trial and error. I got the shiny black ones, which shows mud very fast. Wish I had gone with a matte finish, but that was more expensive. Good bang for the buck, be sure to know how to figure things out as the instructions were minimally adequate.

Review from RedRock 4x4 4 in. Curved Oval Side Steps - Stainless Steel (07-18 Wrangler JK 4 Door)

      Nice Look

These side side look great and installed very simply. everything I needed was in the box with extras just in case. I think the powder coat on the bracket's could be better but only time will tell if the rust up. Once I laid out everything left to right, front to back, tools etc. it took me a little over an hour that includes clean-up. I like them added 1-1/2 wheel spacers and the 3.5 lift kit is on its way. Review from RedRock 4x4 4 in. Straight Oval Side Steps - Textured Black (07-18 Wrangler JK 4 Door)

      Side Steps

The RedRock side steps fit the bill for what we needed. These are perfect for helping kids in and out of the jeep and for standing on, while taking the top off. Great price, appearance, and the parts lined up well for install.. These are side steps and not protection from rocks. The instructions could use a little work. For example, there are plenty of extra parts and the instructions do not clearly label the bolt and part sizes. The extra parts are great as this allows the steps to have adaptability for install. However, the lack of knowing what size bolt to use for each application made the layout and organization of parts to actually take the most time. Once the appropriate parts, for my application, were identified the install went extremely quick.

      2013 Side steps

I had read previous reviews on the poor installation instructions. None were in the box I received. I'm pretty handy around cars so I figured it out by looking at the brackets and holes in the underside of the jeep. I had to reconfigure the washer setup after installing the first time but it only took 15 minutes with a socket wrench to add the additional washers for both sides. Total install time 2:30 minutes without power tools and that included jacking up for easy underneath install. The side steps are lighter then I expected which leads me to believe they are made of thin metal compared to other tube style steps. Fit and finish were excellent though and they look great. My wife needed more of a flat area to step when getting in the back then standard steps. These fit the bill perfectly. I'd give a thumbs up for anyone looking for mobility but not for rock or rub protection.

Great product that is well built and easy to install. It was important to me that the side step assist entering and exiting the vehicle as well as affording protection. The product performs well in both areas of concern. The installation was simple with little need for instructions.

      SS Side Steps

I purchased this item because my wife and mother were having a hard time entering my Jeep. I wanted something that would enhance the look of the Jeep and keep a street look. When the item arrived I immediately got to work installing the side steps. I seperated all the parts to see that all the items were there to complete the install. I installed the mounting brackets first on both driver side and passenger side. I made sure to only hand tighten all the hardware. I installed the side steps doing the same with the hardware. I then tightened all the hardware starting with the undercarrage going onto the rocker panel hardware and finished the job anchoring the side steps to the brackets. I was able to complete the job in about 45 minutes. They look great and my wife and mother are thrilled. Great product for the money!!

      As advertised...

Everything fits, but the instructions are pretty generic. I had the old set that I had taken off, so it made it much easier to match up the brackets to the bars and decide which holes to use on the Jeep. I'm satisfied with the look and fit, especially for the money spent.

      Great looking side steps

My vehicle is a 2011, 4 door Jeep Wrangler Sahara. This product came in well wrapped and color coded bags (left and right steps) was a good idea. The brackets were all stamped to designate which side and where it belonged to: i.e., DF means Driver side front, DC- driver side center and DR- driver side rear and so on with passenger side marked, PF, PC and PR. The product came with all the bolts and nuts required for this install. Very pleased with the outcome.
