I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Off Camber Fabrications by MBRP Rock Rail Kit, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. There is a version of these available for both the two-door and the four-door JKs, so make sure you get the right one for your Jeep. Today, we're gonna talk about the construction and of course the installation of these rock rails. These are for those of you who are looking for some light side protection on your Jeep and also a step to make it easier to get in and out of your Wrangler, but aren't looking for the most protection that money can buy. These are going to protect you against some door dings on the road, and some light trails off road. However, the way that this bar is designed and attached to the rest of the rail make it a little bit weaker than I would like it to be, if you're going to be taking your Jeep on the hardcore trails. However, these are still priced at the top of the price range where those more protective rails are. These rock rails are built from 3/16th-inch steel and these ones are covered in a Line-X coating right out of the box. That means that at least the finish will hold up really well when you drag them along the rocks. As I said before, these are a little bit weaker than some of the other rails on the market in my opinion, and in part because they come in two different pieces. The rail itself and then the step bar. The step bar bolts on to the rail which isn't going to be as solid of a connection as a welded one would be. The way these mount on to the Jeep is really similar to the way a lot of other ones mount on to the pinch seam and on to the bottom of the tub. So, from that standpoint they are going to give you a good amount of strength. They're not gonna be quite as strong as the one that mount on your body mounts, but they will be plenty strong for those light trails and for some on road protection. The installation for these rock rails does require a little bit of drilling. So, if that's not something you're comfortable with, maybe you wanna look at one of the other options from Barricade, Rugged Ridge or Smittybilt that all provide steps and rock rails in this fashion that don't require drilling to get them installed. All of that being said, the drilling you're doing is really just enlarging a couple of holes that are already existing in the pinch seam of your Jeep. The first step is to remove any existing rail that you might have, and then go ahead an enlarge a couple of holes to half an inch. You're really enlarging those holes so that you can put the proper fender nuts in place to get these bolted on. Once you have the holes enlarged and the fender nuts in place, you can hang the rock rails from a couple of bolts loosely and then add the rest of the hardware threading into the bottom of the tub. Once everything is in place finger tight, you can go ahead and torque everything down. This should take you about an hour to install both of these steps, but as I mentioned before this is a little bit more of an involved install requiring you to have a drill and a good set of drill bits handy. These rock rails are going to be a lot more expensive than a lot of the other rails on the market. And for something that in my opinion based on the way that it mounts and the way that this bar bolts and isn't welded onto the rest of the rock rail, these aren't going to be as strong as some of the options on the market that are half the cost of these ones. So, it really comes down to what you're looking for. This is a bit more of a unique design, it comes out of the box Line-X if you decide to go with that option, and they will give you some of that light protection. However, if you're looking to save a few dollars and/or get some additional protection, there are some other options on the market that I recommend looking at. So, if you're looking to add some rock rails on the side of your Jeep for light protection on road and off, and also to have a step to make it easier to get in and out of the Jeep, this is certainly an option to take a look at it. If you have the budget for it and you like the look of these they are a little bit unique. However, if these are a little bit out of your budget or if you're looking for more protection, there are some other options to take a look at.So, that's my review of the Off Camber Fabrications by MBRP Rock Rail Kit, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
