Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Fox 2.0 Performance Series IFP Shock, fitting all 2007 and up JKs. These shocks are available for one-and-a-half to three-and-a-half inches of lift and four to six inches of lift, and they're sold individually as front and rear so, make sure you get the shocks that you need for your build. Today we're gonna talk through the installation of these shocks which of course is a very, very simple one out of three wrench install. These will just bolt directly in place of your factory shocks, and you should be able to get these installed in about a half an hour per shock or less, but we'll talk more about the install in just a second. We're also gonna talk through the construction and a few of the features of these shocks. Fox is a really well-known name in the racing world and what they were able to do is take all of that R&D from building race vehicles for years and put it into these shocks that you can buy and put on your JK. You're going to get a really comfortable ride from a Fox shock as well as a lot of performance, and a shock that's going to hold up and take a beating both on road and off road. Now, Fox does have a couple different levels of their shocks. They're going to all ride similarly. However, they're going to be made out of different materials, so they are going to be different strengths and hold up to varying degrees. This is the Performance Series which is going to be a really high-quality shock, very, very well-built of high-quality materials. We'll talk a little bit more about that in a minute. Now, because you are getting such a quality piece and something that's going to ride so comfortably from Fox, you are going to pay a little bit more for their shocks especially this Performance Series because as I said, it is one of their higher end shocks. But, if you're looking for comfort level, dependability, durability, this is going to be a really nice option for you assuming you have the budget for it. These Performance Series shocks are made of a 60601 T6 aluminum and covered in a clear anodized finish, which is opposed to some of the lower-end Adventure or Evolution Series shocks from Fox, which are going to be a lesser grade aluminum material. Some of them are powder coated instead of clear anodized, and again, that is going to be a price difference for you. With any of these Fox shocks, you are going to get nitrile bushings on the bottom and the top which are going to be both quiet and last a good long time, and you are going to get a nitrogen charged shock. Now, there are hydraulic shocks, and there are nitro shocks. The nitrogen in a shock like this is there to eliminate any foaming and cavitation that you can get from working a shock very hard. A hydraulic shock doesn't have that protection, and if you are doing some high speed off roading or going over a lot of washboards, you're working that shock over and over, you can get some shock feed caused by that cavitation and that bubbling of the shock fluid. With a nitrogen-charged shock, you're not going to get that. Now, in general, a nitro shock will ride a little bit stiffer than a hydraulic shock. However, the ride quality really comes down to the valving, and that's what Fox does really well. Again, you're going to get a very comfortable ride, but also something that's very stable on the road at speed. Bolting an aftermarket shock on your Jeep is a very simple one out of three wrench install that you can get done in about a half an hour per shock. The most difficult part about installing an aftermarket set of shocks on your Jeep is removing that factory set if you have any rust, especially on the front upper shock nut. If you have some rust, that can definitely slow you down. That's an area that's very difficult to get to with a wrench. Oftentimes, if you have a lot of rust on there, it's easier to just put a big breaker bar on there and break the top of the shock off. It's

Superior Ride Quality. Take the trail head-on with the FOX 2.0 Performance Series IFP Rear Shock for 1.5-3.5 Lift. This rear Jeep shock features race developed high flow pistons and is designed to provide increased ride quality on road as well as the stability and predictability you need for off road travel. Nitrogen charged and paired with internal floating piston technology and JM92 Advanced Suspension Fluid, this Wrangler shock will maintain superior performance in a range of temperatures and conditions.

Rugged Construction. This rear shock features a 2.0" metal impacted 6061-T6 aluminum body construction for extreme strength. It is finished in a clear anodized finish for superior corrosion resistance and features black anodized CNC-machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum components. Providing superior functionality, this shock is fitted with a 5/8" hard chrome plated heat treated alloy steel shaft and makes use of quite nitrile rubber bushings for increased articulation during off road expeditions.

Bolt On. This FOX shock is a direct replacement for stock and most aftermarket lift kit shocks. It doesn't require any upgrades or modifications to your Wrangler for a quick and painless installation.

Application. The FOX 2.0 Performance Series IFP Rear Shock is designed for use on 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and JK Unlimited models equipped with 1.5-3.5 inches of suspension lift. Sold individually, rear only.

I'm looking to replace stock shocks for my 4 door JK. It is stock with no lift but I wanted to add a leveling kit. would I need to go with the 0"-1" or the 1.5"-3.5".

ErikM

  • Thank you for your question. Most leveling kits add 2 inches in the front and 1 inch of lift in the rear. You would want to confirm how much lift you are adding and get the appropriate shocks! If you have any more questions or concerns you can always contact us directly!

Would this be the correct Fox 2.0 shock to replace the shocks on a non-lifted 2016 Rubicon?

LaughingCrow

  • Hello, yes, this would be the correct shock size.

Im looking this for a 2007 JK 4" lift..which shock would be the best choice? the ones for 2-4 in lift or 4-6 in lift?

heliezerc

  • With the FOX 2.0 Performance Series IFP Front Shock, units for the 2-4" lifts would offer more down travel, whereas units for 4-6" lifts would offer more up travel. Outside of this, performance should be similar between both lengths. That being said, the FOX 2.5 Factory Series Reservoir would offer several performance advantages over the various shocks that do not have external reservoirs.

Would these shocks work with a 2 inch leveling kit or would you need the one for 1.5 inches or more lift?

RubiconRecon

  • I would suggest using the FOX 2.0 Performance Series IFP Front Shock for 1.5-3.5 in. Lift which can be found here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/fox-front-perf-ifp-15-35-980-24-887.html

Review from FOX 2.0 Performance Series IFP Front Shock for 0-1 in. Lift (07-18 Wrangler JK)

    nice, but no cigar

I've run Fox 2.0 shocks on many of my vehicles (including the top of the line 2.5 resi's w/DSC). I've have also run Icon, Bilstein, etc.. so I feel I have gained some knowledge of proper suspension set up after 25 years. I did not want to lift my new 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2-Door so was looking for a nice improvement for on-road manners and occasional fire-roads/mild off-roading. I do not run any additional weight such as bumpers, lights, winch, etc... vehicle is 100 stock except for OEM sized BFG KO's (Load C) and its also worth noting that my Wrangler came w/the factory trailering package option that includes Heavy Duty springs FandR. I simply feel the Fox 2.0 shock is just a bit to much for the OEM springs (especially the rear). I have tried to break-in the shocks on a few off-road excursions, but experienced no difference in ride quality. The truck corners great and nose dive lessened considerably. However, their is an abrupt hit at the bottom of the stroke during any hard impact. You can really tell the new stiffer shock is fighting with the OEM spring.. its not a fluid sensation at all. I think a gentler Bilstein HD would be a better choice for a bone stock application when on road handling is the priority. And thats exactly what I have on order now.....

Execrllent shock. Only prob was compressing it to fit in. Luckily I had tie wire used to toe rebar. Compressed the shock. Tied it with the steel wire to get it into place. They should come compressed with wire to make installation easier. So it gets 4 stars for that reason

    Best shock i have owned

Got the Fox shocks to go with the teraflex jeep jk performance leveling kit . The shocks are very high quality , Have not had the chance to take them off road yet but hope to soon , ride is very smooth & not harsh at all . I have rancho 9000xl on my Dodge ram mega cab & am considering switching to fox on that as well They may be a little more than other brands but you definitely get what you pay for

Just put these on my 2011 JK. I run 35,s on 20's. Really like them. Jeep seems to recover quicker from big pot holes and such. I can definitely tell it's a stiffer shock...I used to hate how much play was in the previous shocks.

    Great Shock

Fox Racing has been developing incredible and reliable shocks for years, the entry level Evolution series brings a great level of shock absorption at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a slightly better shock with better protection from the elements, these Performance Series shocks might still fit your budget. With a 6061-T6 Aluminum exterior body and an alloy steel shaft, the performance series shocks are sturdy and hold up well to harsh environments. This is especially critically in the Northeast with brutal snow and salty roads that cause havoc on any exposed part of the Jeep. It isn’t uncommon for shock bodies in particular to corrode from the excessive exposure to the elements. The tough aluminum body and clear anodized finish help ensure that corrosion is at a minimum. Similar to the Evolution series, the Performance series’ internals are composed of a reservoir filled with shock oil and high pressured nitrogen in separate chambers. Unlike the Evolution, the Performance series uses a 5/8” hard chrome heat-treated alloy steel shaft to ensure great strength and longevity. The same shaft is used in their higher-end Reservoir series shocks. Installation was straight-forward with great mounting hardware provided for the front top mounts. The rear shocks utilize the same mounting bolts and position as the factory shocks. Overall, the Fox Performance Series shocks are a great mid-point shock that is still set an affordable price, while providing high-end attributes. They provide a slightly stiffer but more controlled ride than the factory shocks, while extending the overall quality and longevity of the suspension system.

Freakin Amazing! Use to think Fox was an overrated name

I use to shy away from highly advertised names but after experiencing what others have said I love these shocks! What a difference they make on a JK. I have ran several different shocks from stock, Rubicon Express, Bilstein, BDS and now Fox and will not go back! High price initially but they have their valving dialed in and very beefy!
