Very much a budget basket
I wanted to like this basket - after all it checked all the boxes! The things that I thought were important to me when I entered the market were:
- Weight capacity
- Easy on/off
Frankly the basket achieves all of the things I THOUGHT I needed. The problem is, being my first basket, my wants were a bit skewed. What I should have been looking for is:
- Quality construction
- Quality hardware
- Quality fitment
- Low noise (not wind noise, I expect that. This is fitment noise - more later).
This basket is very noisy. It creaks and groans and sounds like it is coming apart as a drive. This is exacerbated for those with a soft top. The sounds come from where the load support cross members (driver to passenger side bars) connect into the main frame. They accomplish this through a slip fit - so it is necessarily loose. What you get is two pieces of aluminum banging or leveraging against one another all the time. Next problem is the hardware. The main frame is 4 pieces (front/back, left/right). The frame fits similarly to the load support however in this case there are places for hardware to secure it. The problem is the pre-drilled holes were larger than the hardware intended for them. Finally the fitment of the different pieces is just a bit off (this is the least significant problem).
If you are on a tight budget and you are OK with the areas of concern I expressed - this may be just the basket for you. After all it has held up to all the use I have put it through (multiple camping trips, heavy loads, hauling lumber from the local HD, etc.).
If however you are expecting/desiring a refined product that does not rattle and does not require any trips to the hardware store for assembly, I would pass on this option.
