Solid. But for how long?
Background: I've had this installed for almost 2 years and driven almost 40,000 miles. I live in the Northeast so lots of water, snow, and salt. Pros: Heavy and solid. No bends or breaks after lots of abuse. Powder coating has held up well. Cons: Not really sealed for the weather. I poured out a good quart of rust when I took off the rear bottom pieces to do some work on my bumper. I was surprised at how quickly the inside rusted out. It must not be galvanized and it relies solely on the powder coating on the outside. This is a flaw because the pieces are not water tight when assembled. So far the thing is solid but it's a matter of time before it rots from the inside out. Disappointing considering the price. If ET or the manufacturer have a solution or new design I will update the review.Helpful (0)

rack on a wrangler
The rack arrived when promised in great shape. Install was easy by myself. The look is great. Maybe lettering to identify left and right pieces would be helpful. Great product.Helpful (0)

Good rack, installation is awful and unclear
If you want a rack and don’t want to spend a lot of money for one this one is for you but the installation instructions are awful and you should plan at least 4-6 hours to install.Helpful (0)

Great entry level rack system, poor instructions
So the reviews are true, the directions to put this thing together are woefully lacking. It’s not the big parts that are problematic, it’s the small bits and nuts and bolts that are poorly described and labeled that make you mad. There is padding to add to the rack to avoid scratching your paint on the front mounts. The one sided sticky padding is shaped like the entire front Jeep bracket that the bar mounts to. I.e. you get the impression you’re supposed to put this sticky padding onto your Jeep which is what I did. Then found out the bracket isn’t even that big and I had 20 square inches of padding now messing up my Jeep. Was a bear to take it off. So, pro-tip - put the padding on the brackets. Cut off what you don’t need, which is a lot. With lots of experimentation finally got all the bolts and bits in the right place. I recommend solidly mounting the front brackets, then loosely installing the back, then the second most rear bracket, then finally the long straight piece. The passenger side went together pretty fast with the driver side being the experiment side. NOTE: if you use this rack and you have the Garvin bumper with a passenger side gas can holder, you will lose the ability to open the rear window all the way. The Barricade Rack sticks out too much and won’t allow the passenger rack to open far enough. I still like the rack despite this drawback. Definitely get a helper, makes it easier all the way around. Once everything was tightened up, it is pretty solid. Hosts a roof top tent and seems to bear it up with no problem. I opted for this version not because of price, but because it doesn’t require drilling into the Jeep. This easily attaches to the bumper bolts (I have a Garvin bumper) and the front windshield mounts. For your inspiration- I drilled 1/4” holes in the middle and the rear sections to run wire down the tubes to the hole in the bumper section in order to mount lights. I ran the wire to the front to relays/switches and now have custom lights that have no exterior wiring or wire harnesses or cords/cables. This is another benefit of the Barricade design.Helpful (1)

May need modification to fit on 04
I was super excited to install my rack. That excitement quickly disappeared as I realized I would have to modify the rear mounting brackets to fit on my frame. No worries, luckily I had a grinder on hand and I was able to shave down a good portion of material to mount it. Little did I know that it wouldn’t be the only problem. The top bolt would also pose an issue. Instead of widening the hole on the bracket I left it as is and there are only 4 bolts holding my bumper and rear of the rack together—for now. I don’t know if this was an issue for others but If you’re considering this rack and you have a 04 tj with the 2.4L you May need to spend some time grinding to get a good fit.Helpful (1)

So, I like the rack. The instructions are TERRIBLE though. IKEA has better installation instructions! None of the hardware or parts are labeled and the written instructions are pretty vague. After a few hours of head scratching, I was able to get it installed. The end result looks great, but Barricade really should make it easier to install their products. Also, the knobs for the crossbars could definitely be better quality. I'll probably end up swapping them out with locking nuts as the knobs seem pretty easy to strip while tightening. If you purchase this rack, use the longer bolts for the crossbars. Also they include unnecessary locking washers as the nuts are locking nuts. Just throw the locking washers in the trash.Helpful (1)

It arrived quickly and all in good condition, I have a 1997 TJ and it fit together really well and gives me extra storage space all around for camping. I will say you will feel the weight change and a but more drag when driving on the open road but it's nothing too bad. This thing is a great for the price.Helpful (1)
Will this roof rack support a roof top tent?
The Barricade Roof Rack features a 350 static weight limit, so if your tent & occupants would be under that weight- yes a roof top tent can be installed.
Does this work with the stock bumper with the plastic corner pieces removed? Or do I need to purchase another bumper?
The Barricade Roof Rack would require an aftermarket rear bumper or for the plastic corner pieces to be removed on your stock bumper.
Just purchased 2003 Rubicon. Already has barricade roof rack (yeah!), but the knobs are all stripped or broken. Do you sell just the knobs? I have not been able to find them on your site.
Thank you for this question! We do have a hardware kit available for this. Please reach out directly to our customer service department to set you up with an order for one!
Will the Barricade Roof Rack fit if I have a CURT 13430 Class 3 Trailer Hitch on the TJ? Thanks!
The Barricade Roof Rack should not interfere with your hitch.
Can you take the hard top on and off while this rack is installed?
A hard top cannot be taken on and off when fully installed, but the cross bars simply need to be removed to access the top.
Shipping dimensions are 68" x 25" x 9" and it weighs close to 100 pounds.
