      Description

Extra Cargo Space. A Barricade Off-Road Roof Rack gives you the additional space you need to carry all your essential off-road cargo without sacrificing interior passenger space. This Barricade Off-Road Roof Rack System is perfect for your next off-road adventure or family vacation and can hold up to 350 pounds of extra cargo.

Removable Cross Bars. Barricade Off-Road had the foresight to design their Roof Rack with removable cross bars. This removable cross bar design will allow for easy storage of different size cargo loads, as well as easy removal of either a soft or hard top without the need to disassemble the entire roof rack.

Heavy Duty Construction. Manufactured from heavy duty 2-inch diameter (0.12-inch wall thickness) steel tubing, this Barricade Off-Road Roof Rack System is completed in a textured black powder coat finish for aggressive good looks and long lasting corrosion resistance. For those with body lifts installed, this kit also includes three additional sets of spacers to accommodate the various body lifts on today's market, so there is no need to compromise on your rig.

Bolt-on Installation. The Barricade Roof Rack features an easy, bolt on installation and comes with all the required hardware and mounts. It’s designed to work with a variety of aftermarket bumpers, but will need extra clearances once installed. Due to the mounting clearances, this Roof Rack cannot be used in conjunction with any bumper that wraps around the side of your Jeep. Additional spacers are included to accommodate body lifts.

Application. The Barricade Off-Road Roof Rack System is specifically designed to fit the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJs, excluding Unlimited models, equipped with an aftermarket bumper that does not wrap around the sides of your vehicle. It will not fit 2004-2006 TJ Unlimited Edition models.

Technical Note. This Barricade Off-Road Roof Rack is for storage only; it is not designed for rollover protection.

Freight Notes. Freight items can only be shipped within the continental 48 states, no expedited methods. What is freight shipping? Your Answers are Right Here!.

        1 2005 Wrangler - TimS416

        Solid. But for how long?

Background: I've had this installed for almost 2 years and driven almost 40,000 miles. I live in the Northeast so lots of water, snow, and salt. Pros: Heavy and solid. No bends or breaks after lots of abuse. Powder coating has held up well. Cons: Not really sealed for the weather. I poured out a good quart of rust when I took off the rear bottom pieces to do some work on my bumper. I was surprised at how quickly the inside rusted out. It must not be galvanized and it relies solely on the powder coating on the outside. This is a flaw because the pieces are not water tight when assembled. So far the thing is solid but it's a matter of time before it rots from the inside out. Disappointing considering the price. If ET or the manufacturer have a solution or new design I will update the review.

        rack on a wrangler

The rack arrived when promised in great shape. Install was easy by myself. The look is great. Maybe lettering to identify left and right pieces would be helpful. Great product.

        5 2006 Wrangler - KC95

Good rack, installation is awful and unclear

If you want a rack and don’t want to spend a lot of money for one this one is for you but the installation instructions are awful and you should plan at least 4-6 hours to install.

        4 1997 Wrangler - Bob B

Great entry level rack system, poor instructions

So the reviews are true, the directions to put this thing together are woefully lacking. It’s not the big parts that are problematic, it’s the small bits and nuts and bolts that are poorly described and labeled that make you mad. There is padding to add to the rack to avoid scratching your paint on the front mounts. The one sided sticky padding is shaped like the entire front Jeep bracket that the bar mounts to. I.e. you get the impression you’re supposed to put this sticky padding onto your Jeep which is what I did. Then found out the bracket isn’t even that big and I had 20 square inches of padding now messing up my Jeep. Was a bear to take it off. So, pro-tip - put the padding on the brackets. Cut off what you don’t need, which is a lot. With lots of experimentation finally got all the bolts and bits in the right place. I recommend solidly mounting the front brackets, then loosely installing the back, then the second most rear bracket, then finally the long straight piece. The passenger side went together pretty fast with the driver side being the experiment side. NOTE: if you use this rack and you have the Garvin bumper with a passenger side gas can holder, you will lose the ability to open the rear window all the way. The Barricade Rack sticks out too much and won’t allow the passenger rack to open far enough. I still like the rack despite this drawback. Definitely get a helper, makes it easier all the way around. Once everything was tightened up, it is pretty solid. Hosts a roof top tent and seems to bear it up with no problem. I opted for this version not because of price, but because it doesn’t require drilling into the Jeep. This easily attaches to the bumper bolts (I have a Garvin bumper) and the front windshield mounts. For your inspiration- I drilled 1/4” holes in the middle and the rear sections to run wire down the tubes to the hole in the bumper section in order to mount lights. I ran the wire to the front to relays/switches and now have custom lights that have no exterior wiring or wire harnesses or cords/cables. This is another benefit of the Barricade design.

        3 2004 Wrangler - CarlosC

May need modification to fit on 04

I was super excited to install my rack. That excitement quickly disappeared as I realized I would have to modify the rear mounting brackets to fit on my frame. No worries, luckily I had a grinder on hand and I was able to shave down a good portion of material to mount it. Little did I know that it wouldn’t be the only problem. The top bolt would also pose an issue. Instead of widening the hole on the bracket I left it as is and there are only 4 bolts holding my bumper and rear of the rack together—for now. I don’t know if this was an issue for others but If you’re considering this rack and you have a 04 tj with the 2.4L you May need to spend some time grinding to get a good fit.

        4 2006 Wrangler - KirstyH

        Solid Rack

So, I like the rack. The instructions are TERRIBLE though. IKEA has better installation instructions! None of the hardware or parts are labeled and the written instructions are pretty vague. After a few hours of head scratching, I was able to get it installed. The end result looks great, but Barricade really should make it easier to install their products. Also, the knobs for the crossbars could definitely be better quality. I'll probably end up swapping them out with locking nuts as the knobs seem pretty easy to strip while tightening. If you purchase this rack, use the longer bolts for the crossbars. Also they include unnecessary locking washers as the nuts are locking nuts. Just throw the locking washers in the trash.

        5 1997 Wrangler - Cassransom

        Great Purchse!

It arrived quickly and all in good condition, I have a 1997 TJ and it fit together really well and gives me extra storage space all around for camping. I will say you will feel the weight change and a but more drag when driving on the open road but it's nothing too bad. This thing is a great for the price.

Does this work with the stock bumper with the plastic corner pieces removed? Or do I need to purchase another bumper?

Can you take the hard top on and off while this rack is installed?

      • A hard top cannot be taken on and off when fully installed, but the cross bars simply need to be removed to access the top.
