Tailgate Reinforcement. Designed to redistribute the weight of your JK and JL's spare tire across the entire tailgate, Barricade's HD Tire Carrier with Mount will eliminate unwanted metal fatigue caused by over sized spares. The Wrangler's sheet metal tailgate may not be the strongest in the world, but with this big, beefy Tire Carrier in place you won't have to worry about any undo stress or strain. Barricade's HD Tire Carrier will not affect the daily operation of your Jeep's tailgate.

Heavy Duty Construction. Barricade Off-Road manufactures their HD Tire Carrier and Mount from 5mm thick, hot rolled carbon steel plate for superior strength and extra rigidity. Barricade then completes the entire Carrier in a two stage finish using epoxy pre-coating and high-grade textured black powder coating for long lasting durability.

Bolt-on Installation. Barricade designed their HD Tire Carrier to be a direct bolt-on upgrade for all Jeep JK and JL. As a direct bolt-on, this Barricade Tire Carrier reuses the original factory mounting points and does not require any additional cutting, drilling, or fabrication for installation.

3 Year Limited Warranty. To ensure the highest quality of their materials and craftsmanship, Barricade backs their products with a 3 Year Limited Warranty. Some exclusions may apply, please see manufacturer's warranty for details.

Application. This Barricade Heavy Duty Spare Tire Carrier with Mount is designed to reuse the factory 3rd brake light on 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and JL, including the 2-door and 4-door models.

Would this work for a wheel with 3.75 backspacing? would this hold the wheel/tire up close to the tailgate?

    Dude

    • The Barricade HD Tire Carrier w/ Mount will work with a wheel with a 3.75" backspacing. With this backspacing the wheel would be closer to the tailgate.

The connecting wires on the back of the third brake light are left exposed once everything is installed. Is this correct?

    JennyK

Does the Barricade HD Tire Carrier use the same thread pattern for the bolts that the hold the tire in place as the Wrangler itself? I'm looking into options to deter theft of my expensive new 35" spare and locking lug nuts are one of the possibilities.

    CarletonM

    • Yes it will allow you to use the same thread pattern lug nuts as your factory studs to help secure your spare.

Is there a mount for a Hi-Lift Jack for this HD Tire Carrier?

    ScoobyDoo

    • No, Barricade does not offer a hi-lift jack mount for the Barricade HD Tire Carrier w/ Mount. You can use a universal mount like the RedRock 4x4 Extreme Recovery Jack Spare Tire Mount found here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/redrock-4x4-tire-jack-mount-j100785.html.

Does this carrier require the reinstallation of the OEM rubber bump stops or does it require them at all?

    DavidS

    • We would highly recommend the use of the OEM bump stops when using this Barricade HD Tire Carrier w/ Mount, especially with a wheel with a low or negative offset.

      Sturdy but rusty

Install was relatively easy. Instructions were not great. It reuses the hardware from the stock hinges and carrier. It does what it’s supposed to do very well. However the “powder coating” is poor and it started to rust from the inside in about a week. I had rust all over the tailgate and bumper.

      Great quality

Easy to install (follow the directions exactly), looks great too. Very heavy duty for my 35 inch tires and rims. Costs a little more but Tera Flex always has a great product

      Great for the price

I installed this on my jeep and it rattled like crazy, I contacted Extreme Terrain and they helped me submit a RMA and promptly sent another. When removing the carrier from my Jeep I found the rattle. It appears that one of the welds had broken internally. Now on to the one currently on my Jeep. I am very happy with the product it is very well built and I'm sure the first one I got was just a defective unit. This carrier is very well built and it is heavy, like others have mentioned the stock tailgate stop does not like this tire carrier (likely due to the weight, both the carrier and oversized spare). Once the unit was installed and the tailgate was aligned the gate opens just like it did when it was stock and operates as it should!

      More than capable

This is a tough, strong and heavy duty carrier. It allows for the two most important things when upgrading your carrier for larger tires. Naturally it allows for 8tire sizes up to 37" but the main and most important thing is that it replaces the factory tailgate brackets and hinges with huge beefy parts. These keep your tailgate from sagging due to the increase in weight and also eliminates the breakdown of the hinges leading to failure from the everyday use with the extra tire weight. Great investment when going bigger. The only down side of this product is the install directions themself... the pictures are tiny and no part numbers are used in the directions or issued to the parts themselves so it is a trial n error of getting the pieces assembled in the right direction. Take your time because these directions really do suck. But don't let this deter you from getting this product. This thing is top notch!

      Loose pins

Everything was nice quality and an easy install, but after about a month started to hear aloud clunk when I hit a bump. After some research I found that the pin mounts had loosened up and has play allowing it to clunk when hitting a bump in the road, not sure if it's the pins wearing or the mounts the pin goes through. Really annoying. Don't know how to fix this yet.

Not too bad, but could use extra hardware.

The unit appears to be well built, it's not a light weight unit. As previous raters have mentioned, the Torx screws that attach the unit to the "tub" and the hex bolts that attach the unit to the tail gate are not included, meaning that if your vehicle is any other color than black, you will need to re-paint or powder coat the bolts (For $350.00, I expected that the product would include ALL NEW hardware.). The Another negative on the unit was also mentioned by other raters is that the mechanism that came from the factory that limits how far the tail gate opens and is also designed to prevent the gate from closing on the user pulled out of the bracket on the second day of use

      Good, tight fit.

Very solid. Keeps tire up against tailgate like I wanted. No rattles or other issues. My tailgate check broke because of the extra weight. Should be a warning on installation instructions. Need a fix. There's nothing available for a 2014 JK with sub-woofer so trying to adapt a gas strut from another model JK.

      Finally installed

I've read the reviews about this product. And during the install added some steps to prevent some of the issues the reviews had pointed out. 1st I trimmed the right side rubber tire stop to keep that hole behind the tire carrier filled. 2nd I painted the area from which the stock hinges were removed. I'm hoping this will prevent the issues other reviews described. Overall this carrier is super heavy duty and not bad of an install. I skipped adding the 3rd brake light back on to the new carrier.

      Tire carrier

It is an awesome tire carrier. Installation was pretty easy and it went on exactly as advertised. Its quiet and very sturdy. Maybe a bit heavier than I would have liked but is ok. I think my only problem was that I may have over-shimed my tailgate and it is just a tad off at the top. I will also have to buy a heavy duty tailgate door stop. Mine broke cause of the extra weight.

      Looks Great! Heavy duty!

This was a simple install, basic socket and wrench set plus a star drive (T50 I think). That was the only thing that wasn't mentioned that after I disconnected the tail gate I had to reconnect go buy and come back to do it again. Took about 1 1/2 or two hours to install. Otherwise, super easy, quick install. Looks good and seems like it will last a long time. A good buy!
