Tailgate Reinforcement. Designed to redistribute the weight of your JK and JL's spare tire across the entire tailgate, Barricade's HD Tire Carrier with Mount will eliminate unwanted metal fatigue caused by over sized spares. The Wrangler's sheet metal tailgate may not be the strongest in the world, but with this big, beefy Tire Carrier in place you won't have to worry about any undo stress or strain. Barricade's HD Tire Carrier will not affect the daily operation of your Jeep's tailgate.

Heavy Duty Construction. Barricade Off-Road manufactures their HD Tire Carrier and Mount from 5mm thick, hot rolled carbon steel plate for superior strength and extra rigidity. Barricade then completes the entire Carrier in a two stage finish using epoxy pre-coating and high-grade textured black powder coating for long lasting durability.

Bolt-on Installation. Barricade designed their HD Tire Carrier to be a direct bolt-on upgrade for all Jeep JK and JL. As a direct bolt-on, this Barricade Tire Carrier reuses the original factory mounting points and does not require any additional cutting, drilling, or fabrication for installation.

3 Year Limited Warranty. To ensure the highest quality of their materials and craftsmanship, Barricade backs their products with a 3 Year Limited Warranty. Some exclusions may apply, please see manufacturer's warranty for details.

Application. This Barricade Heavy Duty Spare Tire Carrier with Mount is designed to reuse the factory 3rd brake light on 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and JL, including the 2-door and 4-door models.

Would this work for a wheel with 3.75 backspacing? would this hold the wheel/tire up close to the tailgate?

    Dude

    • The Barricade HD Tire Carrier w/ Mount will work with a wheel with a 3.75" backspacing. With this backspacing the wheel would be closer to the tailgate.

Does the Barricade HD Tire Carrier use the same thread pattern for the bolts that the hold the tire in place as the Wrangler itself? I'm looking into options to deter theft of my expensive new 35" spare and locking lug nuts are one of the possibilities.

    CarletonM

Is there a mount for a Hi-Lift Jack for this HD Tire Carrier?

    ScoobyDoo

    • No, Barricade does not offer a hi-lift jack mount for the Barricade HD Tire Carrier w/ Mount. You can use a universal mount like the RedRock 4x4 Extreme Recovery Jack Spare Tire Mount found here: https://www.extremeterrain.com/redrock-4x4-tire-jack-mount-j100785.html.

Does this carrier require the reinstallation of the OEM rubber bump stops or does it require them at all?

    DavidS

    • We would highly recommend the use of the OEM bump stops when using this Barricade HD Tire Carrier w/ Mount, especially with a wheel with a low or negative offset.

What is the maximum amount of weight that this carrier can hold?

    StevenV

    • The Barricade HD Tire Carrier and Mount can reliably hold approximately 100lbs. Anything over this we recommend a bumper mounted tire carrier to prevent premature failure of the tailgate hinges.

      Loose pins

Everything was nice quality and an easy install, but after about a month started to hear aloud clunk when I hit a bump. After some research I found that the pin mounts had loosened up and has play allowing it to clunk when hitting a bump in the road, not sure if it's the pins wearing or the mounts the pin goes through. Really annoying. Don't know how to fix this yet.

Not too bad, but could use extra hardware.

The unit appears to be well built, it's not a light weight unit. As previous raters have mentioned, the Torx screws that attach the unit to the "tub" and the hex bolts that attach the unit to the tail gate are not included, meaning that if your vehicle is any other color than black, you will need to re-paint or powder coat the bolts (For $350.00, I expected that the product would include ALL NEW hardware.). The Another negative on the unit was also mentioned by other raters is that the mechanism that came from the factory that limits how far the tail gate opens and is also designed to prevent the gate from closing on the user pulled out of the bracket on the second day of use

      Good, tight fit.

Very solid. Keeps tire up against tailgate like I wanted. No rattles or other issues. My tailgate check broke because of the extra weight. Should be a warning on installation instructions. Need a fix. There's nothing available for a 2014 JK with sub-woofer so trying to adapt a gas strut from another model JK.

      Solid Addition

I have a '15 JK Spot Unlit and Needed to distribute weight of my 35" tire on a 20" wheel and this did the job nicely. Tight fit; no rattling.

      Finally installed

I've read the reviews about this product. And during the install added some steps to prevent some of the issues the reviews had pointed out. 1st I trimmed the right side rubber tire stop to keep that hole behind the tire carrier filled. 2nd I painted the area from which the stock hinges were removed. I'm hoping this will prevent the issues other reviews described. Overall this carrier is super heavy duty and not bad of an install. I skipped adding the 3rd brake light back on to the new carrier.

Very easy install and I love the adjustability of the carrier. It is pretty heavy, but great for the cost.

      Tire carrier

It is an awesome tire carrier. Installation was pretty easy and it went on exactly as advertised. Its quiet and very sturdy. Maybe a bit heavier than I would have liked but is ok. I think my only problem was that I may have over-shimed my tailgate and it is just a tad off at the top. I will also have to buy a heavy duty tailgate door stop. Mine broke cause of the extra weight.

      Looks Great! Heavy duty!

This was a simple install, basic socket and wrench set plus a star drive (T50 I think). That was the only thing that wasn't mentioned that after I disconnected the tail gate I had to reconnect go buy and come back to do it again. Took about 1 1/2 or two hours to install. Otherwise, super easy, quick install. Looks good and seems like it will last a long time. A good buy!

      Nice carrier for the money

I just installed the carrier on my 2017 JKU and it fit great. Don't know abought the rust problem some people are talking about but we will see. The carrier went on great and looks good I did pull the limiter strap out the first time I opened the door but I work for a jeep dealership so I know how to repair it. after putting the strap back together I drilled a hole in the end and installed a long role pin to stop it from pulling out again. other than that the carrier is great no rattling at all other than my hi lift jack.

Week and a half old and rusting

Looks good out of the box, but first time I washed it rust colored water droplets were found dripping from under the carrier.

You get what you pay for

I installed on a 2015 JKUR and the install went as detailed in the instructions. I did have my tailgate retention yanked out and I wasn't extremely happy about it or the discussion with Extreme Terrain about a supposed fix that someone else had mentioned. I made my own temporary retention device until I can come up with a better solution. As stated in the headline your getting what you pay for. I would expect more from a higher priced tire carrier but I bought the cheaper one. My only complaints would be the sluggishness of the tailgate when opening and it would have been nice to have had some explanation of what to do about the tailgate retention device.

      Do not buy

Product was supposedly available for my 2017 holes were misaligned Factory Hardware too short to fit how to make trip to hardware store to my longer bolts unit makes My Backdoor feel like it's going to fall off will probably take off and return and look for a bumper mounted tire carrier instead

I have read all these reviews and i have to disagree with the rattle of the tailgate i have no noise at all it looks nice and holds my 35 well i do agree with the person about the rust running down the back of my jeep need to find away to fix this mine had also pulled out my tail gate limiter which i will replace but over all i like it and the price was reasonable took away one star for the rust problem

      HD tire Carrier

Love this tire carrier I had a bumper tire carrier combo it was so heavy and hard to close my rear door with this HD Tire Carrier it's easy as it was with the factory setup.... I would recommend this for women's Jeeps and anyone with not as much upper body strength super easy to open and close with a 35" tire on it.
