Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com. And this is my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Front umper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This bumper is also available in a slightly narrower mid-width version. This bumper is for those of you who want full width protection up front, you aren't afraid of adding a little bit of weight to the front of your Jeep and you don't have to worry about clearance issues between large tires and bumpers. I like this bumper in particular because it adds all of that protection, plus it adds a bunch of features to the front of your Jeep, and it does it all at a lower price tag than some of the other options on the market. This bumper is built from 5/32 inch steel plate. It has a two stage textured powder coated finish with an epoxy pre-coating. As I mentioned, this is the full width bumper. So it gives you protection from one fender flare all the way across the Jeep to the other side. Aside from protection, this bumper has a few other features that I really like. One is the D-ring mounts up front here that are welded on both the inside and the outside and bolt directly into the frame horns of the Jeep. I prefer having a D-ring over the factory tow hook, because with a D-ring like this you know that your tow strap or winch line is gonna stay in place without having the opportunity to pop off of a tow hook. Aside from that, I like that you can use your factory fog lights in this bumper. If you have a factory plastic front bumper, you can remove your fog lights and they'll bolt right into here without any cutting or drilling. Unfortunately, if you have a factory metal Mopar bumper from a Special Edition JK, those fog lights will not work in here. Aside from the fog lights, this bumper also has two light mount tabs up on the bumper hoop. Something that I really like is there are holes drilled in the bumper hoop to help you to run the wires really cleanly. Aside from that, you have a built in 12,000 pound winch plate that will allow you to mount a winch without the need for any additional hardware. And the opening up front here is plenty wide. Whether you're running a Hawse fairlead and a synthetic line or a roller fairlead and a steel line, there's no chance of the line contacting the bumper. Down below there are some holes that are drilled in the bumper for a little bit of weight savings but also just for style. In fact, this bumper still weighs a little over 100 pounds. So like I mentioned, you have to be okay adding that weight up front. And there's a chance that you could have a little bit of suspension sag. It's my personal opinion that this full width bumper looks really good on a JK that has factory flares or even wider than factory flares. If you are running a flat flare that tapers in in the front, I think it's a little bit of a mismatch to have such a wide fender on a narrow body Jeep, but it's up to you. Getting this bumper installed on your Jeep is really easy just like installing most other aftermarket bumpers. The first step is to remove the eight nuts on the factory bumper so that you can remove that completely. After that, you can reinstall the new bumper. This bumper has six welded studs and two bolts that hold it into the same factory location as the front bumper mounts to so, again, no drilling. It makes installation really easy. It does help if you have a dye to run that over these studs because they can have a little bit of residual powder coat on them, and it'll make getting the nuts on the studs a lot easier without the chance of stripping them. Also, if you plan on installing a winch on this bumper, I would recommend installing that on the bumper on the ground and then putting the winch and the bumper on the Jeep all as one package. It can be a little bit difficult to get to those winch bolts once the bumper is installed on the Jeep. Along those same lines, you will wanna install your factory fog lights into the bumper before putting it on the Jeep. The whole process should take about two hours. And you won't need any specialty tools to get this bolted up. However, I've said it over and over again. This is a full width bumper that is heavy, so you'll definitely wanna have an extra set of hands around to help you install it. Or, if you don't, an engine hoist can be really helpful when installing these large heavy bumpers. I think you do get a lot of value for the cost of this bumper. Of course there are less expensive mid-width and stubby bumpers, but there's a reason that this one costs more. There's a lot more material here. There's a lot more that goes into building something like this. And this is gonna be a lot less expensive than some of the top tier bumper manufacturers. And there's a reason for that as well. If you take a look at the welds on this bumper, maybe they haven't been smoothed out quite as much as some of those others, or maybe the powder coat isn't quite as consistent. But, for an item like a bumper that is going to possibly take some abuse if you take your Jeep out on the trail, I personally would rather go with something like this than to spend $200, $300, $400 more than this on an item that could get a little bit beat up. If you're looking to add full width protection and a bunch of features on the front of your Jeep and you're okay adding a good bit of weight, I would recommend this bumper. It looks good, it's really well built, and it's less expensive than some of the top brand bumpers on the market. So, that's my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Front Bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Major Protection. This full width bumper from Barricade Off-Road gives you the protection you need and accommodations for enhanced off road performance. Featuring two high strength D-Ring mounts, a built-in winch plate that is capable of supporting a 12,000 lb. winch, and two OE size fog light housing cutouts the Barricade Off-Road Trail Force HD Full Width Front Bumper is perfect for off and on road use.

Heavy Duty Construction. Manufactured from 5/32" mild steel plating, this Barricade Off-Road Trail Force HD Full Width Front Bumper is completed in a two stage finish using epoxy pre-coating and high-grade textured black powder coating for long lasting durability. The D-Ring mounts are welded both inside and outside for extra strength.

Application. This full width Wrangler bumper with built-in 10x4.5" winch plate is specifically designed for use on 2007-2017 Jeep Wrangler JK models. OE lighting note: The fog light housings from Mopar's Off-Road Bumper found on Rubicon X or special JK editions utilize a fog light bracket which will not fit this bumper. These cases require purchase of a standard factory fog light bracket for use with this bumper.

How much front end sag does the bumper cause? 2015 rubicon JK stock, how much sag does the bumper cause due to the weight (100lb)? Looking to lift my jeep but not sure on the size of the lift to keep it level

JoeM1986

  • The JKs come from factory with a slight rake in the front, being already a bit sag, by adding the Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Bumper (07-17 Wrangler JK), being a heavy duty bumper, you may notice it a bit more. Usually I would recommend a leveling kit but since you are already looking to purchase a lift kit I would recommend putting on an aftermarket rear bumper that is also heavy to help even out the weight distribution. We also carry a BARRICADE TRAIL FORCE HD REAR BUMPER W/ TIRE CARRIER (07-17 WRANGLER JK) [http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-rear-bumper-j20849.html].

What options do I have to mount my license plate if I do not have a winch. I know Rugged Ridge has a mount but are there any other options?

  • Unfortunately we do not have any other license plate holders that would go in front of the bumper with out a roller fairlead.

    Barricade HD Full width bumper

Nice bumper.. horrible packaging. Came with very poor packing material. Boxing so light weight that it was impossible to move with a hand truck and had holes through to the bumper which was as a result, scratched. I fixed the scratches and installed no problem. However supplied d rings were very substandard. Threads missing .. tossed!

    How Cheap

Had the front bumper and winch for a year. The paint on the bumper is coming off. The winch (12K) is rusting out. The places of rust aren't on any places of wear. just flaking off. Just expected more but I bought this instead of name brand. My mistake unfortunately my money and my jeep.

Good looking full width winch bumper

The Trail Force HD full width bumper looks very good and bolts right up without any modifications other than extending the factory fog light harness This can be done easily by simply opening up the loom on the passenger side where the fog light harness comes out and pulling back to reveal more wire available behind the loom. You can find at least another 10" of fog light wire, then simply add more loom and tape it up neatly. I was also able to reinstall the OEM air dam by attaching it first at the rear where it originally fastens to and then marking where to trim the sides and front. The front fits just up and behind the lower part of the Barricade bumper and then I drill 4 holes in front of air dam to attach to frame and center winch plate support on bumper with tie wraps.

    Good Upgrade from Stock Bumper

It took longer to remove the stock bumper than to install the new bumper, and fits like a champ. This bumper looks great and is sturdier than the stock, but I would have liked a little thicker, beefier amount of metal. I apparently attract deer just by driving, so I guess we shall see how this works out. Things that would have been nice to know before purchase: 1. License Plate Considerations: My state requires front license plate. This bumper does not accommodate. Plan on getting a winch so that you can apply an over fairlead license plate holder. 2. Fog Lights: Littler further placed than I like, and the lamps are occluded on the inside, so you do not get full field of view on the beam, only towards the outside. There also are no after-market wiring extensions to add to the stock connectors. You'll have to build your own, but making sure you keep them water proofed. Not a hard task, but you'll have to plan on wires, connectors, heat shrink covers, automotive wiring conduit...you get the idea.

    Great Bumper

As with most bumper reviews the hardest part of this install was taking the old one off and rewiring the fog lamps. You will need to extend fog light connections 18-20" make sure to use waterproof connectors you can get at Lowes or Home Depot. The instructions posted on the site from Dave Olearain were spot on. I also purchased and installed a Barricade 9500 winch. Make sure to install it on the bumper before installing the bumper on your Jeep. This makes a "very" heavy lift so make sure you have some help. Love the look and fit. Testing it out in Colorado next month.

    LOOKS GOOD NOT VERY TOUGH

I've had mine for about 6-8 months, I have a 12000LB Barricade winch on it and have used it for minor outs or tugs. I just returned from a jeep weekend and I was laid over on my side in a gully tried to winch out and the winch plate bent all to heck. I had to stop using my winch to prevent and additional damage to the winch or the bumper. We used another winch to pull me out. NOT very tough at all. getting rid of it and getting a reliable replacement bumper and possibly a new winch once I see how badly it is twisted when I remove it..

    Great bumper, but arrived damaged.

Awesome looking bumper. Bolt holes on Jeep lined up perfectly with the bolts attached to the bumper. One light tab on the bumper bar arrived bent. I'm not happy that it arrived this way. You'll need to buy wire in order to relocate the fog lights to their new location on the bumper. Overall, great bumper but I wouldn't order another item from extreme terrain because of the damage to my bumber.

Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Bumper

I liked the style of this bumper from the first time I seen it. It was always out of stock each time I looked. First time I found it in stock I ordered it. Install was simple only had to open up the wire loom and was able to run the original wiring and connectors out to the relocated fog lights in new wire looms. Looks bare without a winch on it. I think that will be this weekends project.

    One heavy duty bumper

Took a little more time then expected. Had to grind some metal for an exact fit. Looks awesome on my 2014 wrangler. I added a 9500 lb winch and had to remove bumper to do that install. After re- installation my rig looks tough. If you are looking for a rugged front bumper, look no further, this one fits that bill 100%.

    Awsome bumper, great fit.

Decided to go with the full width and glad I did. Very sharp looking and perfect fit. Be careful removing the plastic top trim behind the stock bumper to access the bumper bolts (plastic screw and grommet will strip). Also, allow for additional time to extend the wire length on the stock fog lights. Two person install took about 2.5-3 hours. Now extra lights and winch.

Barricade full width HD bumper w/9500 lb winch

I installed this bumper with the Barricade 9500 lb winch. There were a few little issues with fit: very close to the stock fenders and with the winch it is super tight against the front grille. No instructions included. Really? C'mon, you spend this kind of money on a product you should get some installation instructions. If you are handy and have some experience it should be pretty easy though but instructions are a must. I found a video online and was able to figure it out.

Gives the jeep a whole new attitude!

This bumper fit perfect and had no damage from shipping. It's a beast to handle alone, but it can be done. Takes a bit of time to get enough wire freed up to reach the wider fog light mounting position but there is no need to cut anything. Exactly what I wanted at a fair price.

    Perfect fit and look

I purchased this bumper for my 2012 4 door wrangler. I did not have to change or cut anything. It bolted on perfectly with 8 bolts and looks perfect. It even closes the gap by the wheel wells that the stock bumper had. Plus the winch sits low and my stock led fog lights fit great.

    Barricade Bumper

The Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Bumper is the best and most important accessory I purchased for my JK so far! The bumper packaging was a little sloppy but no damage done to the bumper. Installation was around 2 hours. 45 minutes to mount bumper and 1:15 minutes to extend fog light harnesses. The cost of the bumper was not bad and worth every penny. With all that being said my Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Bumper looks amazing on my JK and the custom look and fit in my opinion is second to none.

    Great bumpers

Love the bumper, install was easy. Would suggest having 2 people if you install it with a winch. We picked it up cause I drive at nite a lot. We wanted better protection from deer then just the stock bumper. Only issue I have is the winch mount location. My winch doesn't fit between the frame rails so I will have to move the winch hole over like 1/2 an in.
