    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com. And this is my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Front umper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This bumper is also available in a slightly narrower mid-width version. This bumper is for those of you who want full width protection up front, you aren't afraid of adding a little bit of weight to the front of your Jeep and you don't have to worry about clearance issues between large tires and bumpers. I like this bumper in particular because it adds all of that protection, plus it adds a bunch of features to the front of your Jeep, and it does it all at a lower price tag than some of the other options on the market. This bumper is built from 5/32 inch steel plate. It has a two stage textured powder coated finish with an epoxy pre-coating. As I mentioned, this is the full width bumper. So it gives you protection from one fender flare all the way across the Jeep to the other side. Aside from protection, this bumper has a few other features that I really like. One is the D-ring mounts up front here that are welded on both the inside and the outside and bolt directly into the frame horns of the Jeep. I prefer having a D-ring over the factory tow hook, because with a D-ring like this you know that your tow strap or winch line is gonna stay in place without having the opportunity to pop off of a tow hook. Aside from that, I like that you can use your factory fog lights in this bumper. If you have a factory plastic front bumper, you can remove your fog lights and they'll bolt right into here without any cutting or drilling. Unfortunately, if you have a factory metal Mopar bumper from a Special Edition JK, those fog lights will not work in here. Aside from the fog lights, this bumper also has two light mount tabs up on the bumper hoop. Something that I really like is there are holes drilled in the bumper hoop to help you to run the wires really cleanly. Aside from that, you have a built in 12,000 pound winch plate that will allow you to mount a winch without the need for any additional hardware. And the opening up front here is plenty wide. Whether you're running a Hawse fairlead and a synthetic line or a roller fairlead and a steel line, there's no chance of the line contacting the bumper. Down below there are some holes that are drilled in the bumper for a little bit of weight savings but also just for style. In fact, this bumper still weighs a little over 100 pounds. So like I mentioned, you have to be okay adding that weight up front. And there's a chance that you could have a little bit of suspension sag. It's my personal opinion that this full width bumper looks really good on a JK that has factory flares or even wider than factory flares. If you are running a flat flare that tapers in in the front, I think it's a little bit of a mismatch to have such a wide fender on a narrow body Jeep, but it's up to you. Getting this bumper installed on your Jeep is really easy just like installing most other aftermarket bumpers. The first step is to remove the eight nuts on the factory bumper so that you can remove that completely. After that, you can reinstall the new bumper. This bumper has six welded studs and two bolts that hold it into the same factory location as the front bumper mounts to so, again, no drilling. It makes installation really easy. It does help if you have a dye to run that over these studs because they can have a little bit of residual powder coat on them, and it'll make getting the nuts on the studs a lot easier without the chance of stripping them. Also, if you plan on installing a winch on this bumper, I would recommend installing that on the bumper on the ground and then putting the winch and the bumper on the Jeep all as one package. It can be a little bit difficult to get to those winch bolts once the bumper is installed on the Jeep. Along those same lines, you will wanna install your factory fog lights into the bumper before putting it on the Jeep. The whole process should take about two hours. And you won't need any specialty tools to get this bolted up. However, I've said it over and over again. This is a full width bumper that is heavy, so you'll definitely wanna have an extra set of hands around to help you install it. Or, if you don't, an engine hoist can be really helpful when installing these large heavy bumpers. I think you do get a lot of value for the cost of this bumper. Of course there are less expensive mid-width and stubby bumpers, but there's a reason that this one costs more. There's a lot more material here. There's a lot more that goes into building something like this. And this is gonna be a lot less expensive than some of the top tier bumper manufacturers. And there's a reason for that as well. If you take a look at the welds on this bumper, maybe they haven't been smoothed out quite as much as some of those others, or maybe the powder coat isn't quite as consistent. But, for an item like a bumper that is going to possibly take some abuse if you take your Jeep out on the trail, I personally would rather go with something like this than to spend $200, $300, $400 more than this on an item that could get a little bit beat up. If you're looking to add full width protection and a bunch of features on the front of your Jeep and you're okay adding a good bit of weight, I would recommend this bumper. It looks good, it's really well built, and it's less expensive than some of the top brand bumpers on the market. So, that's my review of the Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Front Bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Do you sell the fog light extenting wires for this bumper

    AshleyA

    • No, install of your factory fog lights on to the Barricade Trail Force HD Front Bumper is fairly easy and usually your factory wiring is long enough. We've had customers who did not need to adjust the factory harness while other customers just opened up the split loom and accessed the additional wiring on the factory fog light harness and then redid the split loom.

I have a 2013 jk unlimited Sahara 4 door I see where some people are talking about moving the vacuum pump. What is this pump for and would I need to move it on this jeep for this bumper

    AshleyA

    • The Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Bumper does not require the vacuum pump to be relocated. The Vacuum pump is installed in the Wrangler to ensure there is enough vacuum to operate accessories like vacuum assist brakes under all conditions.

How much front end sag does the bumper cause? 2015 rubicon JK stock, how much sag does the bumper cause due to the weight (100lb)? Looking to lift my jeep but not sure on the size of the lift to keep it level

    JoeM1986

    • The JKs come from factory with a slight rake in the front, being already a bit sag, by adding the Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Bumper (07-17 Wrangler JK), being a heavy duty bumper, you may notice it a bit more. Usually I would recommend a leveling kit but since you are already looking to purchase a lift kit I would recommend putting on an aftermarket rear bumper that is also heavy to help even out the weight distribution. We also carry a BARRICADE TRAIL FORCE HD REAR BUMPER W/ TIRE CARRIER (07-17 WRANGLER JK) [http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-rear-bumper-j20849.html].

      Warrenty

Have not had this bumper for a year, finish pealing and so much rust. What a shame because I loved the way this looked on my Jeep! But when I called about warranty I was informed the finish and rust issues were the two things not covered, go figure. Highly disappointed.

      Great Bumper, Great Price

I just installed this a week ago and it looks great. If you want a well built, nice looking bumper this is it. It was easy to install and only took about two beers worth of time (1 and a half hours including the winch install). I did install the winch first since the bolts under it are a little hard to get to after its mounted on the Jeep. Not mandatory, just a preference. I also had to extend my fog light cables about ten inches on each side since I didn't have enough spare in the cable chases. This won't apply to all Jeeps though.

Barricade Trail Force HD Full Width Front Bumper

the bumper is great , and a very good look . packaging SUX. the box arrived , and what little foam it , was in small chunks . the bumper had one light mount bent , decided I could live with it , and you would think for 499.00 they could have put in a hardware pack with 6 metric nuts and 2 metric bolts . also you will need wire ext for fog lights , got mine off amazon . would have gotten with bumper if could have found them. but al in all ....I would buy the bumper again if needed . still fell good about my choice .

It truly looks way better in person!

So I absolutely love this bumper! I installed it myself and it took me about 2 hours and I took my time. I have a 2017 Sahara with stock fenders. This was an absolutely easy install. I read the instructions that are available online as non came in the box. I was worried when I received the box as the box was all torn up. The bumper wasn't really that well wrapped up so inspect your package when they drop it off or you will be responsible for the return shipping if it is severely damaged or even bent or dented by way of transportation after you accept the package. My bumper had a minor paint chip that I couldn't even complain about on one of the corners for the condition the box arrived in I'm thankful thats all it was. If you have any touch up paint for the black hardtop it pretty much an identical match and it will cover up any scratches nicely. The instructions tells you to use an 19mm socket which did not work for me as mine needed an 18mm socket to remove the bolts. A cordless ratchet will be very useful once you break the bolts with a standard ratchet in removing all of the nuts as the inside bolts are a tight fit. This will save you a ton of time. The stock fog lights fit perfect. Get yourself a foglight 18" extension kit for under $20 bucks, it will save you a ton of time. The bumper lines up almost perfect for a heavy steel bumper. mine was just slightly off to the passenger side by about 1/2 inch, not bad at all and you can hardly notice. The bumper looks great! did most of the work by myself and had someone help me when it was time to mount the new bumper while I ran the threads on the bolts to hold it in place. Here is a tip, I used painters tape along the bottom of my fenders and grill so that they wouldn't accidentally get scratched as I lined up the bumper. Tighten the nuts and bolts and you are done! Great quality! Great finish on the paint job! Sturdy, well constructed and heavy!

      Replacement

I replaced an after market bumper with this bumper. I had replaced my bumper with a nice but somewhat cheaper bumper and was happy with the look of my jeep. But as things would have it, someone ran through an intersection and hit my front bumper and messing it up pretty bad. It was enough of an insurance payout that I was able to put this one on and it makes my jeep look so much better. I absolutely love the look of this bumper and I feel like it is much stronger than the other one.

      Scratched

I like the bumper and maybe I'm being a little hard. The box looked fine when it was delivered. I installed the bumper with the foam wrap on, so as not to mess up the finish. When I removed the foam not only was it scratched but that area had rusted. The bumper is being replaced, it has been over a week and no replacement yet. I would have rather them reduce the price $100.00 and have it re-powder coated myself.

      Solid performance

I don't normally write reviews, but today I put this bumper to the test. While traveling home early in the morning I had an encounter with mother nature. A nice large doe came running out into the road. At 55 mph stopping was impossible. The Deer slammed into the passenger side front. Your bumper did its job. No damage to the front of my wrangler and only a small dent in the side panel. I was able to continue my 5 hour trip thanks to your bumper doing it's job.

      Nice upgrade

Rugged, well made, good looking. Not difficult to install as long as you have someone to help lift it into position. Only problem I encountered was the winch mounting plate is incompatible with the barricade skid plate. Had to remove skid plate and will need to cut it to reinstall.

      Installation is not easy.

To begin with I like the bumper. However, the installation is quite a project. Having a friend that is a car mechanic and had a lift made it easier. 1. You definitely need 2 people to install. 2. Instructions would be nice. 3. Disassembly of factory bumper and associated panels is a project in itself if you've never done this type of thing. Which brings me back to item 2. 3. The studs / bolts didn't line up. Had to enlarge or elongate the holes on the frame of the jeep. 4. A proper way to attach the wiring harness for the fog lights would be nice. 5. Somewhere to mount the license plate would be a nice feature also.

      Tough bumper - easy install

Upgraded to this bumper from the factory bumper. It looks great, is super strong and was incredibly easy to install. My son and I did it from, unpacking the box to putting the tools away in less than an hour. I had to use fog light extension harnesses to reach the placement on the new bumper. Also super easy install. Took just a minute. Very plug and play.
