Hey guys, I'm Kevin from Extreme Terrain and this is my review of the Barricade Extreme HD Stubby Front Bumper. Now, a stubby bumper is a dedicated hard core wheeling bumper, looks really cool and has a very distinct purpose in a wheeling application. Basically, it tucks the bumper in and allows full articulation in droop or compression for your front suspension along with giving you the protection of a hard-core front bumper with winch mount in this case. Now, a lot of guys will kind of trick their way into it. They'll take the stock bumpers, stuff them in. You can find these pictures on the internet but, it's plastic. Let's face it. It doesn't offer much protection but offers a cool look. So there's an alternative.Having said that, this bumper has all the features that you'd expect to find in a piece costing a lot more. But it's also got a few limitations. In order to really check them out we're going to throw it on the vehicle, take another look.Removing the stock bumper, if you've never done it before, can be a bit of a challenge. Mostly because it's hard seeing maybe find some of the fasteners that are tucked in tight. But you'll figure it out and it might take you an hour or so to remove the stock on if you've never done it before. To install the stubby, you'll need a metric socket set and possibly some combination wrenches. We use the 19 millimeter socket and the 19 as well as the swivel just to kind of speed things up.The cordless impact is a nice tool to have around but it's not absolutely necessary. This stubby bumper is heavy so unless you have a gef, get a buddy to install it. But it's really no trouble to assemble and bolt on.Our JK's missing the factory fog lights for some reason but if yours are still there, you can unplug the harnesses if you don't want to run them, or find a creative way to mount them under the bumper or just upgrade to aftermarket lights. But the stubby front bumper is designed for maximum protection while giving you maximum clearance. And here's what we're talking about. Right here, we are wide open for an unlimited wheel and tire choice and we're not going to ever interfere with the side of the bumper. So we really got a lot of options here, especially with an extended fender. We've got nice approach angles here, it's all trapezoid looking here. It's very, very cool and very stylish but the important thing is that it's out of the way of the wheel and tire while you're wheeling. Here you've got a built in recovery point with a D-Ring and a 7H tab that's fully welded in for good strength and the two inch DOM bar on top here can be used as a recovery point if you're very careful about where you pull. From here you may bend a thing if it's an extreme pull, but just know that going in.The lining tabs are designed to relocate your factory fog lights or install the racks in 21 and a half inch LED light bar. Both of which are good options if you want a fog light and we all want to accessorize and upgrade our lighting systems. But here's one of the coolest things; the recessed winch mount. It's fully plated in, it's a heavy duty recess winch mount and it doesn't interfere with air flow going into the radiator. Now, I wish they would have figured out a way to put the factory fog light mounts here, but they didn't. So we got what we got. And some 2012 models, you got a pump that you got to relocate and you can get that kit online as well. Now barricade has a nice warranty. They have a three-year limited warranty. So it's good to know that they stand behind what they sell. So if you've got an O7 to 16JK, you want to beef up the looks of the front end with a whole lot of function at not a crazy price, well the Extreme HD Stubby Front Bumper might be for you.Just make sure that you understand that you've got to do something about your factory fog lights, but you've got options for accessory lighting to round up this package. So that's my product review of the Barricade Extreme HD Stubby Front Bumper from Extreme Terrain.

Looks good - not buttery smooth to install
Got this in the Black Friday sale so got a deal. I'm a handy guy but not a car guy so it took me ~3 hours. Problems: I did not see anywhere in the instructions here beforehand that cutting was required. For my 08 JK I had to take a couple inches off both sides of the crash bar, otherwise the bumper would not fit on. I took a reciprocating saw to it and it worked out. I also could not get the bolts without a swivel-head socket wrench, just tough to get back there. No instructions in the box, the PDF is also useless, but I figured it out. Looks good though.Helpful (0)

The bumper was great quality. It had to be modified to accept my winch. I have a Warn Powerplant 12 ton. Which was to big for the winch compartment. So with a little cutting we solved that issue. Next issue was the vacuums pump which had to be relocated from the forward cross menber to the firewall. (That requires a relocation kit )That allowed the bumper to finally bolt on and project to complete. Added a couple of KC 5” spots to replace the stock fog lamps and ready to go.Helpful (6)

The lighter weight is what really sold me on this, but I am growing to love the looks as well. Absolutely painless install, couldn’t be easier. As with any bumper, mount the winch first if possible, but be sure to check the clearance. Using the rearmost bolts, my X20 10k winch was pressed against the grill. Didn’t notice till the bumper was on, so I wound up reaching through and adjusting the winch placement with bumper mounted-totally doable with a small amount of patience and the right tools. The powder coat texture looks different than I had expected, and I’ll admit I was a little alarmed when I opened the box, but when installed it looks great. Very satisfied by the quality at first glance, the great price, light weight, and quick shipping. Hopefully it stands the test of time and use!Helpful (9)

This bumper looks great and was very easy to install (if you have the right tools). One thing I can't stress enough is if you are installing a winch, do that first before installing the bumper or you will regret it. This bumper is sturdy, looks mean and gets the job done. 5 starsHelpful (10)

Night and Day
Wow what an exciting thrill to put this bumper and 1200 lb. winch on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. The look between my factory bumper and this one is night and day . Everything I needed to put it on and hook it up was right there in one package. The quality of these products is right right on the money , very pleased .Helpful (9)

I have a 2014 jk 4 door. does this bumper require a relocation kit for the brake vacuum pump?
Hello, No this is a simple direct bolt on install.
How much does front stubby bumper wieght
This front bumper weighs approximately 93 lbs.
Can I attach a front plate to this? My state requires one.
There are option in order to have a licence plate mounted onto this bumper. By either bolting it directly into the winch mounting bolts, if you are using a winch you can pair them with these mounting brackets. https://www.extremeterrain.com/rugged-ridge-roller-fairlead-1123805.html https://www.extremeterrain.com/rugged-ridge-license-plate-mounting-bracket-for-hawse-fairlead-8717-yj-tj-jk.html
What is everyone doing with their factory fog lights when you install this bumper? Thank you in advance.
With the Barricade Extreme HD Stubby Front Bumper the fog lights are not used, people are simply not using the stock fog lights or using an aftermarket light bar with the bumper.
Some of the photos show 4 slits above the winch fairlead, but some do not. New style update? If I order one, will it have them or not?
The Barricade Extreme HD Stubby Front Bumper will arrive looking the same as in our product picture, as this is the most up to date picture.
The Barricade Extreme HD Stubby Front Bumper will accommodate a steel cable winch but yes, you will need to modify by drilling additional holes.
Hello, the Raxiom 21.5 in. Double Row LED Light Bar provides the best fitment for the tabs that are provided on the Barricade Extreme HD Stubby Front Bumper. A 20-22" light bar should fit fine depending on the mounting brackets.
No, it does not. Purchased the stubby and the plate does not allow the stubby to be mounted.
