    Review & Installation Video

These steps are going to be a nice alternative for somebody who wants a step on their JK but isn't interested in that more traditional round tubular side step that can look a little bit old school. This is definitely going to give a tougher more modern styling, and they sit up nice and high so they're going to do a good job of also covering that otherwise unfinished looking pinch seam. So today we're going to talk you through the installation of these steps which is going to be a very simple one out of 3 wrench install, the hardest part that, getting these installed is going to be holding them up and getting the bolts started, but even that's very easy with the help of a friend or some jack stands, and we'll talk more about the installation in just a second. Now, this is going to be a very well-built step. However, it is still a step. This is not designed to be dropping the Jeep off of a ledge onto a rock and take a beating. While these mount similarly to some rock armor that is on the market, these are not designed to take that kind of meeting and because of how far they stick out from the Jeep to make them a good useful step. There's a ton of leverage there, and again these are just not for off-road protection. They will give you some protection against door dings, and they're going to be a very useful step as well as changing up the look of the side of your Jeep. Now because these are pretty heavy duty because there's more material here then you're more traditional round tubular side step, these are also going to be a little bit more expensive, but if you like the styling, I do think it's worth it because you're getting a nice quality step. As far as construction goes, the base of this step is going to be tubular steel. Of course, then you have these plates welded on the top. Plates have holes punched in them to keep them a little bit lighter but mostly for styling, and for some additional traction of your mud or snow on. This it's going to help it to drain off by having the holes in here so you're going to get a good solid step that's going to be very useful. Now as I said, these do sit up a little bit higher than some of the other steps on the market which does a nice job of covering that otherwise unfinished pinch seam which is a feature that I really do like, and these mount very, very solidly. These are going to mount on to the body bushing bolts that are already on your Jeep using the factory hardware making install very easy, and giving you a very solid step. So to get these installed on your jeep, all you need to do is first remove whatever side step or rocker already you might currently have on your Jeep that will occupy the same space. Once you have the area on the side of the Jeep cleared, then you can remove your body bushing bolts that are on either side of each main body bolt. And there are going to be three body mounts involved in installing these on your four-door JK, so a total of 6 bolts. Once you have those bolts removed and out of the way, you can hold the step up into place, again you don't have to have an extra hands here or at least a tall jack stand to put one end on while you get those bolts started. Once all the bolts are started you can go ahead and level the step. Make sure that it's all square, there's no interference, and in that sitting where you want it before twerking all of those bolts down. And that's a simple matter of repeating the same process on the other side and you're finished. This whole process shouldn't take you much more than an hour to complete and you can do this with just a socket set. These steps are going steps are going to run you around $275 for the four-door set, and I do think that that is going to be a fair price. Like I said, there are less expensive steps on the market. There's more traditional round tubular steps. This is lot more material, here it's a lot more substantial, so I think it should be a little bit more expensive, and these are going to be less expensive than armor which of course is going to be more solidly built to take more of a beating on the trail. So I think they fall right in the middle. I think they are all fairly priced, and I think if you're looking for a step that's a little bit more modern, this is going to be a fairly priced option. So if you're looking for side steps to make it easier for you and your passengers to get in and out of your lifted or even stock hight JK, but you're not a fan of the more old schools tubular round side steps, this is going to be a more modern-looking option that's going to be a very fairly priced, very rigid step. So that's my review of the Barricade Extreme HD Rocker Steps putting your 4-door 2007 and up JK that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

I have been looking for a replacement for my stock rail since I have the 35" tires last time in canyonlands i had many instances of tire rub but never came close to needing the rail protection. So do these extend toward the tire as far as the stock rail or are they a bit shorter..... Pics would indicate shorter but any info is helpful

    PaulV

    • They do not extend past the pinch weld seam into the wheel well on the body, as shown. You will rub the body before you rub on these rails.

Will these work with the factory installed Rubicon rock rails?

    • Unfortunately, the Barricade Extreme HD Rocker Steps do not work with the factory Rubicon rails, you would have to remove your factory Rubi Rails before installing these.

I'm looking for something to protect the paint on my doors and rocker panels on my willys wheeler. Trying to stay away from mud flaps. I have 12.5 inch wide tires and a 4" lift. Will these help keep the mud down. I travel 6 miles of gravel a day to work. If you have any other suggestions? Thanks for the help

    DanielW

    • The Barricade Extreme HD Rocker Steps would help cut down on what is thrown up from the ground, but this is not their primary design function, so they will not eliminate road debris, gravel, and mud from contacting the Jeeps body.

I have a 2017 jeep wrangler unlimited. the description say it fit 2017 the video says 2016. Will it fit a 20017?

    LesaT

    • These Barricade Extreme HD Rocker Steps will certainly fit a 2017 model. The video was released prior to the release of the 2017's, however, installation has stayed the same. We apologize for the confusion.

Great step and super easy install

Ok I just bought these for my 17 Unlimited Sport. Installed these today on my very first Jeep in 10 minutes per side by myself with a cheap socket wrench seriously! Not sure why they list these here as a two hour install time? Maybe if you drank a six pack between installing each side..lol... Also if you watch the install video here it is wrong..DO NOT remove the body bolts there is absolutely no reason too. These steps only mount using the two bolts on the side of the frame bolt. All you do is remove those 6 nuts on each side and again I mounted each step by myself. All you do is slide the step above the big washers in the frame bolts which will hold the weight of the step and just install the nuts and tighten, that's it. Super easy super simple XT should really revise their install video here as there is no reason at all to remove the big frame bolts to mount these!

Great Looking Addition to my Wrangler

These Steps are great! They are first and foremost very stylish and easy to install. I purchased these mostly for protection from rocks flying up from the tires and door dings in the parking lot but they look great too. I receive a lot of compliments on them! The cutout on the front doors is perfect for stepping in and out of the Jeep without having to use the running board or bang your leg on it in the process.

      Pleased

Love the look of these steps, and it seems to help a lot with blocking the rocks that sling from the tires. I wish I had installed these before my hinges got all chipped up. Passenger side went on perfect. I had to grind on the rear circular cutout for the body mount on the driver's side, so that was a bit frustrating and slowed me down. All said and done I would recommend these to anyone, especially for the price!

      Would purchase again

Bottom line: would purchase again. Design changes I'd suggest: none. Had a slight concern the indent by the back of the driver's door would be an issue. Turns out, that indent was a benefit for exiting the vehicle; it allows you to easily swing your leg out and directly onto the ground, without the rocker step getting in the way or making it awkward. Black coating was perfect. Non-slip coating perfect. Quality seems top notch. Pinch seem is visible still. I used "Rugged Ridge Body Armor Rocker Guards" to cover the pinch seem. Looks really good in my opinion. One of the existing customer photos shows this combination. Would recommend to anyone not dragging their Jeep over rocks.

      Better looking than stock ones

These are built well, they are somewhat heavy. The way they bend in is great so when you get out you dont have to step over as much. The jeep stays cleaner with these on. I used a floor jack and installation was a breeze.

      Surprisingly Easy

Read the prior reviews. Looked for possible glitches mentioned and install times differences. My actual install took 1 hr 15 min one man and motorcycle floor jack holding up each step. Went right on with no problems. Added flat washers , as mentioned in one review , for added support. Finished install looking good and solid. Very pleased.

      Well Built Steps

These sides steps are really well made and heavy (over 30 lbs each). They fit fine with the factory mud guards. They have a three point mounting to the frame whereas some rock sliders only have two point mounting. I don’t know how well these will work as sliders, but they would really help with side impacts. The steps are big and the cutout in the center lets you enter the front without using the step if you want. I was concerned that the front step was too far forward, but my short passengers had no trouble getting in the front. I recommend to use thick washers that are wider than the nuts. Just a small increase in diameter can increase the clamping surface area by 20 which helps because the mounting holes are slotted and the steps are heavy. Since the steps are heavy and the weight is cantilevered, they can cause a twist type torque impulse on the frame when you go over large bumps. This will cause some things to make noise that normally wouldn’t like the top of the rear bumper bouncing against the top of the metal bumper frame or rear fender liner vibrating against the fender. One person can install these. You need to sit on the ground with your legs under the jeep, rest the step on your knees, lift the step by raising your knees, and use your arms to guide the ends to where they mount. Reach over and install one nut finger tight at one end. Then reach over and install a nut at the other end. This will be enough to hold the side step in place to install the other nuts and washers. Then go back and install washers under the original two nuts.

      Great Product...

Easy install. Nice solid steel with a wide foor print. Very thin coat of paint.. I did noticed a little scrape will remove paint but being a solid steel piece ill re-touch later if i need too. Step is wide but when wet it is smooth and slippery.... i might consider adding like grip tape like on skateboards. Other than that happy with product and LOVE it... better than a plastic step bar or round bars.

      Great Steps!

Went on super easy, if you have a helper to hold them up. About an hour. Looks great. I wanted a step and one that would stick out pretty far... needed something to actually step on and not slip. Did not want the plain round bar to slip off of when it gets wet. Should call them door ding armor. First day out, car had their door swing open, hit the step and not my door. Same for a shopping cart when I got done. jees... Later, worked fine in the mud and when it was raining. Good step. Heavy duty and looks good.

      Bad A** Steps

My husband and myself installed these onto our 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK. It didn't take us long at all, maybe 30 min. Didn't need any special tools either. Super easy to install. The look....WOW what a difference!!! I LOVE these steps. I've seen many other steps on other peoples Jeeps, and wanted something rugged looking, I found it in these steps. I would highly recommend them.

      Happy a wife, happy life!

Installed them on my wife's Jeep and she couldn't have been any happier! She likes the way they look and the added protection from getting her Jeep dinged by car doors, the steps stick further out from the side of the Jeep. Installation was easy and painless! Plus they look really good on her Jeep!

      Looks awesome

Just bought a lightly used 2015 JKU that had no step bar and drove down a muddy gravel road at 25 mph. I had mud thrown all the way down the side and to the top. So this was one of the first mods I have done. I was looking for something rugged, but don't intend to do any serious rock crawling. I love the look of these and they are sturdy, bolting right to the three frame attachment points. The design is perfect. The narrow bend in the middle allows me to step right in or out without using the step. It is still a little high for my vertically challenged wife. They arrived really quick on a week night and I decided to try to install by myself. The passenger side alignment was perfect. I used the box and a couple of ramps to get the step close to the correct position. The are close to 40lbs each, so it is manageable for one person to lift one end into position and thread the factory nut back on the bolt. The other end slid right into position and I threw a 2X4 under between the step and my supports to keep it there while threading another nut. It took less than 15 minutes to install once I had everything set up. The driver side was a bigger challenge since the bolt holes were off by about 1/16 inch. I loosely threaded the back nut and was able to rig up a cable wrapped around the center of the step to a woodworking clamp that I hooked on the frame to pull the center into alignment. The front attachment point keep that end aligned (lucky). I then needed to use the jack to gently raise the front all the way up on the attachment bolts and was back in business. So this side was probably closer to an hour including quite a bit of trial and error. Would have been a lot easier with another set of hands (I turned 60 this year). Love the look and they have helped keep the spray from rain on the highway from coating the side. Heading out today for a fall color tour that will really test them on the backroads.
