Merideth: If you're in need of a style upgrade for your 2007 to 2018 JK Wranglers tail lights, these Raxiom Axial Series Carver LED Tail Lights with the black housing and the smoke lens will be a great set to take a look into. Now, this will be a good option if you're a fan of the JL tail light styling, but you want to take it a step further with some stealthy smoke styling and a unique interior lighting design. Now, not to mention, if your factory halogens just weren't cutting it when it comes to brightness and visibility when backing up, this cell will offer a substantial upgrade to making more noticeable and your path a little bit clearer. Now, this will feature, as it says in the name, at the combo of the black housing and the smoked lens, which will offer that all-black appearance for a more contrasted look, and will match incredibly well with any other black lighting or any black accessories that you already have on the Jeep. Now, what I think is super notable here is that this will simulate or replicate the JL housing for more of a modernized appearance while integrating a bright red LED fiber optic style running light that borders the tail light when it's on. Now, not to mention, when you press on the brakes, the inner light bars will have a concave or hourglass-style set up, adding a very dynamic look to the light itself. Now, then on the center, you'll have the bright white LED, which is responsible for your reverse light for improved visibility when you're backing up at night. Now, these are gonna be pretty durable for the design of a light with a black ABS plastic housing, very similar to the factory, and will have a tough polycarbonate lens on the front for some added protection. Now this set will also be directly bolt-in, making them super easy to install, and will have a fully plug-and-play operation on the back so you don't have to worry about any additional wiring. This is also going to come with some automotive grade 3M tape on the back just to create that seamless look like these tail lights came on the Jeep from the factory. Now, for the set, these will come in at about $300, putting this at a pretty average price point for a set of LED tail lights. Now, in comparing two other choices available on the page, I do like the fact that this is one of the only options that we'll have that JL-style housing and style aspects in addition to the unique light styling. Now, most will take that traditional stacked LED approach or the cluster approach, or keep to a JK-shaped housing, which may not be up your alley if you're looking for some out-of-the-box styling, and that's exactly what you're gonna get with this set. When it comes to install, again, this is gonna be super easy at a 1 out of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter, and will take you about 45 minutes to get the job done with some super simple hand tools. At this point, we can head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of the install process, what it looks like step by step. So that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into it.Man 1: Tools used with this install, a 6-millimeter socket, quarter-inch drive ratchet, and a Phillips screwdriver. Hey, guys. I'm gonna show you how to install our tail lights here on our Wrangler, but first, we're gonna watch a quick uninstall video on how to remove them, and then we'll jump right back into the install.Man 2: Okay, to begin disassembly, we're gonna go ahead and remove the two inner screws from our factory tail light, this one here and this one down here. Slightly slide your tail light towards the inside of the vehicle and lift off. Pressing down this tab, unclip, and that's it for the removal of our factory tail lights.Man 1: So now we have our stock tail light removed. We're gonna go and start by installing our new tail light. As you can see, we have the back piece of the tail light. It comes apart. They give you some alcohol wipes in the kit, and what you're gonna do with that alcohol wipe, I already have done it, you're gonna wipe this finish right here and get it nice and clean because on the backside here we have our double-sided tape. You're gonna wanna remove this and get this off. On ours, we're not going to be doing this because we are going to actually be removing this right away. So I'm not gonna take this off, but you get the idea. And then what you're gonna wanna do, once you got everything clean, just gonna wanna push in. There's two clips back here, two clips right there and it's in place. And then you're gonna reuse your factory screws that you had and we'll get these back started, and run these in. And again, I'm gonna use a Phillips screwdriver, that's all we're gonna need to do this. And put the other screw in. So now once you have those tight, means that you will have your tape off. You're gonna want to just go around on this outside edge, push this so it adheres to the painted surface.Next, we'll install the rest of our tail light. We have a couple wires to connect and we'll get this wrapped up. So now before we mount our tail light, they're gonna give you this bracket with these two Phillips screws. And what you're gonna do is take this relay here and we're going to mount this to the bracket like that. And then what we're gonna do is start the little locking nuts that they give us for it. I'll get the other one started here.Once I get them in place, I'm gonna take a 6-millimeter and a quarter-inch drive ratchet, and my Phillips screwdriver that I used prior, and hold this into place. Tighten it up. And do the same on the other side. Now that we have those two tight, now we're going to install this inside here. I'm gonna show you there's some clips. We're gonna push this in place, then we'll start installing the other half of our tail light. So now as you can see, we have our relay in place here. Two bolts are tight. We have two black clips that they give you in the kit too. They're gonna just push on just like that. And then what you're gonna wanna do is take that and inside on this bracket here. I'm just gonna take it, put it in place like that.Next, we'll install the other half of our tail light. So now that we have our bracket in place, we're gonna just start by plugging in our connector just like that. We'll tuck these wires back down inside, and we will get our tail light in place like that. It's gonna clip in on the sides. They give you two screws in the kit. Just gonna start with these two screws. Get them in place. I'm gonna take my Phillips screwdriver again in here. Right now on up. And that one. Now, you're gonna wanna repeat this whole install procedure on the opposite side. That wraps up this review and install of our Raxiom Axial Series Carver LED Tail Lights, Black Housing Smoked Lens for '07 to '18 Jeep Wrangler JKs. Thanks for watching. And for all things Wrangler, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
