    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from, and this is my review of the Smittybilt SRC Side Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This armor is available for both two-door and four-door Wranglers. This is for anyone looking to add some light side armor protection to their Jeep, and they're a really useful step to help them get into or out of their stock or lifted height Wrangler. Now, this armor is a little bit pricey, in my opinion, for what you get. But it does give you that light protection that we talked about, and it is a pretty good step. This side armor is built from inch and three-quarter diameter, .12-inch wall thickness steel tubing, and it's covered in this textured black powder-coated finish that will help to resist corrosion and rust down the line. It also does a good job at matching a lot of other Jeep accessories and the factory black plastic accents on your Jeep. As you can see here, it has two nice, large stepping surfaces, each that have a couple of holes drilled in them, which makes them a little bit more nonslip and adds a little bit of detail to the step. Now, these are pretty well-built. The welds look solid, and they're built of a heavy material. However, it's the way that they mount that makes me think they're not quite as strong as other armor on the market. These only mount in two locations, instead of three, on the four-door that we're looking at here, and these mount using the body bushing bolts, instead of the larger main body bolts. There's a couple of reasons that this seems to be a little bit weaker than some of the other armor on the market. These'll install pretty easily onto the Jeep because they're designed to be completely bolt-on and they actually use all of your factory hardware. Now, they do have a little bit of weight to them, and especially the four-doors that are a little bit larger mean that you'll probably wanna have an extra set of hands around or at least a tall set of jack stands to hold up the weight while you get everything lined up.The installation process is pretty straightforward. You'll remove two bolts from each of the body mounts on the front and the rear of the Jeep, put the step in place, and replace the bolts. That's all there is to it. You won't need any specialty tools at all, just a regular socket set, and the whole process shouldn't take you more than an hour.Like I said before, these are a little bit pricey for what you get, in my opinion. I would like to see these mount a little bit more securely because these are designed to be armor and give you a little bit more ground clearance. Again, in my opinion, these act more like a step than armor, even though they're called side armor and they're priced like side armor. For the same amount of money as this side armor, you could get something that is gonna hold up a little bit better, even though it might not work quite as well as a step.So if you're looking for side armor of this design and you have the budget for it, this is a really well-built piece and the finish on it is really solid. However, if you're looking to do really hardcore off-roading, I would probably take the money that you would've put into these and put them into something that is a little bit more armor-like in the way that it mounts and the ground clearance that it provides. So that's my review of the Smittybilt SRC Side Armor, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here, at

Do they mount to the frame or the body like some rock sliders do?

        • These will mount with the body bushing bolts, which would be at the frame. You can find the installation guide here:

I have already a Smittybit SRC Classic Rock Rails S/B76636 on my 4 Door Jeep. Can I add/attach the Smittybilt 76634LT SRC Side Armor Step around or under the Rock Rails. RobertP

        • Unfortunately no, both use the same mounting points and would get directly in the way of each other.

I have a body lift on my JK will these still mount up the same?

        • Yes, the Smittybilt Rock Crawler Side Armor will mount the same way with the body lift mounted.

Will these work with the stock Rubicon rock rails installed?

        • The Smittybilt Rock Crawler Side Armor (07-17 Wrangler JK 2 Door) will not work with the stock Rubicon rock rails unfortunately.

Could I jack up the jeep with a farm jack on these rails?

        • The Smittybilt Rock Crawler Side Armor can be used as a jacking point, however caution should be used due to the round bars having less contact area than a flat surface

            As advertised

Fit perfectly on my 2011 JK using existing body mounts. Didn't need any grinding. Heavy duty construction and nice powder coating to match factory fenders. Would definitely recommend.

            Easy to install.

It took longer to get the bars out of the box than it did to install. 10 Minutes and I was done. Look good on the Jeep.

Love these. First modification I did to my Jeep and they look perfect. Exactly what I wanted. Only complaint is I wish the had three connection points instead of two for bracing

            They make a knocking noise

So after I had them installed a year ago I thought there was a problem with my jeep or that they were installed incorrectly. So finally I took them the jeep to the dealership and found out the one side rail was actually making the knocking sound under my jeep..

The rails/steps installed in 20 minutes total with no assistance. The look is eye catching and after one week they work well as a step for those that need a lift.

            Awesome Armor and Step

I am super pleased with these! They look awesome, the powder coating is sturdy and they do a great job of protecting the side panels from any debris on the trail (or door dings in the parking lot) that I've come across. Great fit, would have given five stars, but required a bit of grinding to get the passenger front to fit snug without squeaking on every bump in the road from rubbing. Besides that, it's an awesome product that shipped in record time!

            Very nice!

Fit and appearance are great. Very easy to install! With the 2 mounts it's probably better as a step and could probably take mild abuse with no problems.

Great product and all around experience!

Great product. It took me a while to select a product to provide usable steps and some light rocker protection. Both sides installed easily in about 10 mins each. I didn't have help so I used a floor jack to lift and hold them in place. That method lifted the steps into position at exactly the right angle to fit into the body mounts. Fit and finish are excellent. Price was right. These replaced Red Rock sliders that did not provide a usable step.

            LOVE THEM

The actual installation of these took like 15 minutes and they lined up perfect to the body mounts! Props to Smittybilt! Thank you Extreme Terrain for getting them to me in like 3 days too! They're kind of heavy but I did do them by myself so it is possible for one person to do it. Honestly the hardest part of putting these on were getting the factory step rails off, some of the bolts are a little tricky but I would totally do it again if I had to!

            Very Nice side Armor

Ordered these last week and received them in 2 days. Very good wrapping and the parts were safe inside. Took some time to unwrap and just installed them on my 2015 Willys in my garage. You need a 1/2 drive deep socket and then I used a jack stand to support one end as I bolted the other side up. VERY easy to install. No issues and they look awesome.

            Look Great, Installed Easily

My 5' wife needed a bit of a step. I didn't want something hanging down and liked the clean look and price of these rails. All in all, the step surface is less functional as a step because it's positioned in the center of the rails (which is too far forward). These rails are just as high as the stock rubi rails. You won't be losing any ground clearance and these provide greater protection. Also, these will not fit with stock rubi rails installed. I was able to install without help with the use of a motorcycle lift to hold the rails roughly in position. No drilling or mods required/simple bolt on. There were no torque specs with the directions. The yellow logo is metal with adhesive backing. It does not come installed on the rails. The rails come labeled for passenger and driver sides.
