I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review and installation of the Rugged Ridge Textured Black Side Armor Nerf Bars, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. These are available for both the two-door and the four-door JK. Today, we're gonna talk about the construction, the features, and, of course, the price of these bars.Rugged Ridge calls these bars both side armor and nerf bars. When I think of nerf bars, I think of the old-school round side steps that don't offer a lot of protection. That is not these. These are definitely side armor. These are going to provide some protection, both on-road and off-road. That being said, they're not gonna be quite as stout as some of the other armor that's out there that looks similar but mounts in a slightly different way, so there is that to consider. If you want something that's going to be a step, that's going to give you a little bit of protection on-road and off-road, this is a good option. If you're looking for even more protection or more of a step, there are some other options out there that would be a better fit. This armor is built from two-inch round tubing that has a 0.12-inch wall thickness, so these are pretty strong and they are going to hold up pretty well. They're covered in a textured black powder coat finish that will match a lot of other aftermarket Jeep accessories and your factory black plastic accents that are already on your Jeep. Now, as I mentioned before, these aren't quite as strong as some other armor that's out there that is a similar design. These, even though the ones you see here are for a four-door, only mount in two locations, in the very front and in the very back. There are some other brands out there, Barricade, for instance, that offers a rail very similar to this, but it has a third mounting point, and that will add some additional strength. These also mount on the body bushing bolts and not the much larger and stronger body bolts that go up through the center of the bushing. That's one more way that these aren't quite as strong as some of the other side armor on the market that is, again, of a similar design. These sliders are designed to be completely bolt-on, which makes the installation really straightforward. The first step in the installation is to remove the larger body mount bolts and the washers that come with them from the factory. That will give you access to the slightly smaller body mount bushing bolts that actually hold these into place. Once you have those four bolts removed, you'll hold the rock slider up into its location and replace those factory bolts. When that's finished, you can replace the much larger body mount bolts, and you're finished. The whole installation process shouldn't take you more than an hour, and you won't need any specialty tools to get the job done, just a good set of sockets. However, these are a little bit long and they are a little bit heavy, so if you have an extra set of hands around to help you, that'll speed the process along, or if you have a good tall set of jack stands handy, that'll work as well. When it comes down to the value you get for your dollar when you purchase these rails, I think that you get a lot of it. These are really well-built, the finish on them is nice, they seem to be very strong, and I think, overall, they're a pretty good product if you consider that they are going to be a little bit weaker than some of the other armor on the market that is of a similar design. Again, if you're looking for something that's going to be much stronger, there are some other options out there, Barricade being one of them, that have three mounting points and will mount with a larger bolt versus these ones, and these are gonna be right around the same price as those ones. So, it really comes down to what you want for your Jeep. So, if you're looking for some light armor to protect the rocker area of your Jeep and also provide you with a step, I think this is a good option. As long as you're looking to be able to run light trails and have some protection from door dings, this will work for you. If you want something that's a little bit stronger, check out some of those other brands on the website. We have those available as well. So, that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Textured Black Side Armor Nerf Bars, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
