    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Quick Release Mirror Kit, fitting all 1997 to 2016 Wranglers. This kit is available in both the rectangular mirrors that you see here and round mirrors, and it's also available in two different finishes, either gloss black or textured. You can also purchase these mirrors individually or as a pair. This mirror kit is for those of you who want to take the doors off of your Jeep but also want to remain both legal and safe by retaining your rear-view mirrors. Now, there are kits out there that will permanently move your factory mirrors from your doors to your A pillars and I really like those kits because they save you the additional step every time you take the doors off of installing or removing your quick release mirror. However, if you're somebody who has a newer JK that has either the power mirrors or heated mirrors, you'll lose that functionality by moving the mirror to the A pillar, so if you're somebody in that situation, I definitely recommend these. I especially like these mirrors over some of the other quick release mirror kits on the market because these are really solidly built. Some of the issues that you can have with a mirror like this, especially at highway speed, is a vibration that makes it really hard to see behind you. These mirrors are nice and solid, so that won't be an issue for you. On the back of each of these mirrors is a ball joint that is fully adjustable, so you can tighten it down, and that's going to keep the mirrors from moving when you hit highway speed. The way that the arm is designed and the way it attaches to the quick release bracket means it's going to attach really tightly and, again, it's not going to vibrate, especially at highway speed. Because the arms and the mirrors themselves are fully adjustable, you're going to be able to see the mirror in any situation. One of the drawbacks to moving the factory mirror to the A pillar is it can make the passenger mirror a little bit difficult to see. You won't have that issue with this kit. This kit is designed to be completely bolt-on and installs really easily. In fact, it uses a lot of the factory hardware which makes it even easier. The first step in the installation is to install the bracket that will stay on the Jeep. In order to do that, you have to remove two bolts from the factory windshield hinge. Now, we found that ours had some Locktite on them, so it might be helpful to run a die and tap through the bolt and bolt hole to make sure they're nice and clean before you reinstall those bolts. That will decrease the likelihood of you cross-threading one of those bolts. Once you have the bracket installed on the Jeep, you install the mirror onto the mirror arm, and then put the mirror arm in the quick release bracket. The whole installation shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes and the only tool you'll need is a socket to attach the mirror to the mirror arm and a Torx bit to remove those factory bolts. I think this kit is worth every dollar that you have to pay for it because of how solidly it's built. You can get two of these mirrors for right around $50 and in my opinion they're worth that. I would much rather have a mirror mover kit that permanently moves my factory mirror from my door to my A pillar, again, just so you don't have that extra step every time you take your doors on and off. However, I'm a TJ guy, so I don't have to worry about power mirrors. If I had a JK that had power mirrors that were heated, I definitely wouldn't want to lose that functionality and I would be installing a set of these on my Jeep. So if you're somebody who likes to take the doors off your Jeep for that open air driving experience, but you want to remain legal and safe, and you don't mind the extra step of taking the mirrors on and off every time you take the doors on and off, I think this is a well-built and fairly priced kit. So, that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Quick Release Mirror Kit, fitting all 1997 to 2016 Wranglers that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Will this mirror work with a Raxiom windshield light bar mount?

    BrennanG

    • The Rugged Ridge Quick Release Textured Black Rectangular Mirrors will work with the Raxiom Windshield Light Bar Mount. You may just need longer bolts.

How can I keep these mirrors from whistling when driving?

    WilliamD

    • Thank you for your question! I would recommend making sure the mirrors are tight, and adjusting the angles of the mirrors and mounts.

    • I apologize for the inconvenience in this, we do not carry the bolts for separate purchase, this would only be offered as a full kit.

Hello, Will these mirrors work with Tubed doors? To eliminate purchasing the more expensive mirrors to mount on the doors or having to remove the stock mirrors to install them onto the tube doors.

    HowardG

    • These are mounted to the A pillar, and will be able to be used with tube and factory doors.

Will these fit on the next pair of bolts down from the ones you show them attached to? It seems like they would look better and would be much closer to the same location as our normal stock door mirrors. If they fit there, would the brackets (when these mirors are off but the brackets are left on) interfere with the door or stock mirrors when the doors are on and you open them?

    JohnQPS122

    • These mirrors would be designed to work with the top bolts only.

      Loose

Mirrors begin to fold in at 45 mph. I had to make a shim to tighten the connection at the mount to stop the mirrors from moving

      Junk

It's not worth the money. Fit was good, but mirrors won't stay in place while driving. Tighten down bolts a joke. I couldn't get it tight enough so wind hitting mirrors wouldn't move them.

Review from Barricade Quick Release Textured Black Rectangular Mirrors - Pair (07-18 Wrangler JK)

      Awful

These mirrors fold in as soon as you go above 40mph so don’t waste your money if you do any sort of highway driving. Also, they whistle incessantly at just about any speed you drive so if you don’t want to hear that kind of noise, avoid these mirrors at all cost. You can not return them after they have been “installed” so save yourself the aggravation.

Review from Rugged Ridge Quick Release Textured Black Rectangular Mirror - Single (97-18 Wrangler TJ & JK)

cheap quality - broke after first use

I just attached this the first time today and tried to adjust the mirror. The bolt sheared right off. I would expect this would last a little longer or at least I would be able to use it one time. if you cant adjust the mirror without the bolt breaking it's not very useful. I think the rest of this mirror is okay but the bolt that attaches the mirror to the arm is too thin and therefore prone to breaking.

      Gets the job done

these mirrors work very well for me. They seem to stay in place even at highway speeds, there is some small vibrations but not bad and a little wind noise but its a Jeep it was wind noise any ways

      Hard to tighten

Mostly like these mirrors. Only issue I had was the quick release knob is hard to tighten. So when it gets windy, the arm extends out or folds in. I'll figure out a solution.

      Cheap

They serve their purpose, but are poor quality. The brackets don't tighten enough to prevent the mirrors from folding back from the wind at higher speeds. I also had to modify the outer rims of the mirrors to fix a loud whistling sound they make above 30mph.

These mirrors hold where you put them. They catch a little air and whistle a bit, but when the doors are off, there is always noise. I can finally see!

      Overall very good

Overall works very well. Sticks out a little further than I would prefer, but took it on the highway last night and the mirror did not move...which was nice. I did make sure to really tighten the knob down hard! Does the trick and keeps the PoPo out of my rear-view mirror!

      Door-less visibility

These were very simple to install using supplied instructions. Obviously they are manually adjustable, but provide about as much rearward visibility as stock door mirrors. Good value!
