Very Sturdy Ladder
One of the great accessories for the Garvin Adventure rack is the ladder. It gives you access to the roof rack from the side of the Jeep, allowing you to accommodate any cargo you have loaded on the rack itself. Similar to other Garvin products, the ladder is very high quality steel tubing and secures easily to the provision tabs on the rack itself. This actually adds further rigidity to the rack in general, which is another bonus.
The ladder attaches to three points on the Adventure Roof Rack system. The side lower point (left side), attaches to the Racks bottom brace. While the other lower point (right side) is left unattached over the Jeep fender.
This would seem like a weak point and problematic if a heavier person tries to climb the ladder, but Garvin has reinforced the right side with an additional steel plate on the top which also pushes the ladder out a bit so it’s inline with the body of the Jeep and roof rack.
The installation itself was very straightforward and took about 10 minutes to complete. All the hardware is very sturdy and that the ladder itself feels extremely solid. Once it’s all properly aligned and tightened it will actually fall inline with the rest of the rack and become virtually invisible from the back.
On 2-door model Wrangles, the ladder covers the back 1/3 of the rear window, this is slightly distracting at first, as your peripheral vision is able to see it when you glance over to check on the blind spot before switching lanes.
In addition, the ladder works in conjunction with the rack to tilt back and provide access to the soft top. Overall I’m very pleased with the overall construction and ease of installation. The Ladder further enhances the function and look of the roof rack system at a very reasonable price.
