    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from and this is my review and installation of the Garvin Adventure Rack fitting your 2-door 2007 and up JK. Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of this rack which is a very simple one out of three wrenches because this is designed to bolt directly on to your Jeep without any major modifications. So if you decide to tackle this job on your own, you can get this done in your driveway in about two hours, but we'll talk a little bit more about the install in just a minute. We're also gonna talk through the construction and a few of the features of this rack.Even though the newer JKs do have some more space inside of them than the older TJs did, if you are somebody who needs to haul a bunch of gear, chances are you don't have room inside your JK, so a roof rack could be a really nice option. Now, I don't recommend a roof rack for those of you who do some really hard core off-roading and get yourself into a lot of off-camber situations. Having the additional weight up on top of the vehicle can make you a little bit top heavy and can raise your center of gravity which isn't a good thing. However, if you do more of an overland style of off-roading, or you stay on the road, or you're just trying to haul some gear to the camp site for the weekend, a roof rack can be a really nice solution. Now, there are some very inexpensive roof racks out there on the market but those ones aren't going to hold up quite as well to rust and corrosion because of the coating. They're probably going to make some rattling noises when you're driving down the road or certainly when you're hitting the trail. That's not what you're going to get with a rack from Garvin. This is a really high-quality roof rack and not only is it built really well and going to hold up really well and be very quiet, it's also going to look really good. It's very sleek in its design. Some of the less expensive racks on the market do look a little bit boxier, in my opinion, and aren't quite as sleek. So while you are going to spend a little bit more money for a Garvin rack, you are getting something that's gonna hold up well over time, it's gonna be quiet, and it looks good.As far as the construction goes, this is a steel tubular roof rack that's covered in a textured black powder coat finish. Again, this finish is going to hold up really well to rust and corrosion. And the way that this thing is designed and built, it is going to be nice and quiet and rattle-free as long as you follow all of the instructions when you're installing it. This can hold up to 300 pounds and it is a little bit different than, say, the Garvin Adventure Rack which is a more expensive rack. The Adventure rack essentially has a built-in basket that covers the entire roof area of the Jeep. This is a much more simple rack that just has a couple of bars on it. However, you can get a basket or any number of other accessories so that you can strap down whatever type of gear you are trying to haul. One of the other nice features about this rack is that it does tilt back allowing you to lower and raise your soft top without completely removing the roof rack. So this is hinged in the back making it very easy for you to tilt it and actually your soft top without having to completely remove the roof rack.As I mentioned before, the installation of this rack is a very simple one out of three wrenches, and you can probably get this done in right around two hours. As with most other roof racks on the market this is going to attach to the windshield hinges in the front and has some brackets on your rear frame rails that come up, and that's where your pivot point is going to be for the rear of the rack. Once you have the mounts on the front and the mounts on the frame on the rear, it's a simple matter of attaching the hoops and the crossbars that run front to back on your Jeep. This is going to be a very simple rack to install but you are going to wanna follow the instructions that are included to make sure that you're getting everything bolted in place exactly where it goes, and make sure everything is nice and tight so you're not going to have any rattles. You're not going to need any specialty tools to get this job done, just your traditional hand tools and, again, about two hours of time.As I mentioned before, this rack is going to be a little bit less expensive than the Garvin Expedition Rack just because it is a simpler rack, there isn't quite as much here. However, this is going to be more expensive than some of the other racks on the market. There are Barricade roof racks out there that are certainly less expensive than this one is, but this is a very high-quality rack. It's a very well-built rack, and as we said before, it's very low profile and it is a sleek-looking rack. So it really comes down to what you're looking for on your Jeep. I think that this is absolutely worth the price you have to pay for it. However, if you're not somebody who's going to be running a roof rack year round, you're not as worried about the rattles, you don't live in an area where you have a lot of salt so you're not worried about corrosion, then yeah, you can probably go with one of those less expensive racks and save yourself a little bit of money. But, if you're looking for a really high-quality rack that's gonna look sleek, hold up well, and be noise-free, I think this one is worth the price. So if you're looking to add a little bit of additional cargo space to your two-door JK, a roof rack like this one is a really nice option. This is going to give you the ability to carry up to 300 pounds of gear on the roof of the Jeep, it's going to be a really sleek-looking rack that will hold up really well over time and is really easy to install. So that's my review of the Garvin Adventure Rack, fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at

Storage Construction. The Garvin Industries JK adventure rack is a roof rack fashioned from tough tubular steel. Heavy duty matte black powder-coated paint provides a rust and corrosion resistant coating for the entire construction. The JK adventure rack has a maximum carrying capacity of 300 pounds, and is well suited to attaching long objects. The product comes with a limited lifetime warranty against defects in workmanship or materials from Garvin Industries.

Storage Specs. The JK adventure rack is designed to accommodate many different items, including long, unwieldy objects such as kayaks and small boats, skiing equipment, or even lumber from the local hardware store. It also provides a sturdy foundation for attaching other accessories such as a roof rack basket. The adventure rack tilts back to give you the access you need to open and close a soft top.

Application. The JK adventure rack fits 2-door models of 2007-2018 JK Wranglers. It installs without drilling, bolting on to various factory attachment points. In the front, it bolts on to the windshield attachment areas while at the rear, it bolts on at the bottom of the rear quarter panel. Installation is fairly easy, though it takes approximately 3 hours to complete. The factory rear bumper can be retained.

Height of rack above roof? Limited on space to fit in Garage.. Need a measurement from a specific point of reference, not the ground since I have a lift.

        • The top of the Garvin Adventure Rack (07-17 Wrangler JK 4 Door) sits 8” above the top of the metal front door.

First of all, why are the first two photos of a 4-door when this product is for a 2-door? Also, if this product claims to not require any drilling, then why does the second photo show many drilled bolts into the rear of the Jeep's body and bumper for the rack? My Jeep is stock and doesn't have any factory bolts back there.

        • We have not yet installed the Garvin Adventure Rack on any of our jeeps for photos, so the pictures are those provided by the manufacturer still. This will not require any drilling, full installation instructions can be seen at the link below.

Once it's all installed is it easy to remove to take the hard top off completely or do you have to have to completely uninstall it?

        • Thank you for your question! The Garvin Adventure Rack (07-17 Wrangler JK 4 Door) is only designed so you can remove the side rails fairly easy to gain access to remove or install your hard top.

Does it really attach without drilling? All the pictures shown look like its been drilled into the bumper and the side.

        • Yes. The Garvin Adventure Rack mounts with unique support bars that do not require drilling for installation.

easy- view the video installation first

I'm a visual person so the video allowed my wife and I to have an expectation on how to complete this installation- it was easy but it did take the two of us..... completed in 1 afternoon. Could not be happier with the product, it's quality and the "visual" - looks great! Easy to recommend this product.

Good quality. Doesn’t fit quite right.

The rack is good quality, solid materials. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit quite right. The instructions are a little difficult to follow, and it doesn’t match up the way you would think it should. Especially for the price of a high end rack.

            Built Well tooooooo much packaging

Garvin uses way too much plastic and staples with their packaging but that’s the manufacturer. My daughter and I put this rack together and over all the unpacking took up most of the time. Note: I added the ladder, basket, and wind deflector so there was a lot of packaging. The instructions were decent, I do suggest a close follow. It was helpful watching the installment video. The time frame for install was right on point.

Great rack! Phenomenal installation support team!

Really like this rack. Everything I wanted and more. Very substantial/solid. Well built. Installation was not too bad. I did everything by myself. Took my time and still less than 3 hours. Be sure and: 1. Read/follow all the instructions. 2. Watch the movie thanks is available on the Garvin website. 3. Call tech support at Garvin if you have questions. (Chris was great!) 4. When doing final tightening, go front to back. 5. Use tape measure to square front with windshield. Very happy! Looks great!

            A great purchase.

This product exceeded my expectations. The roof rack assembled well with no issues. The finished product looks great and there isn’t even any additional wind noise. I will say the pieces might have been better marked so that you can lay everything out first, but the install is easy enough that you can intuit what goes where. Only took a couple of hours working alone to get it done. I highly recommend.

            Sturdy and well represented

Just put rack on a few weeks ago and loving it so far. About 4 hours for install, directions made it very easy to not get lost in process. Compared to old rack this is so much sturdier and I don’t get the creaking I used to from my roof top tent. Looking forward to adding more accessories from Garvin down the road.

            Sturdy rack

I was looking for a solid rack to support two kayaks on long journeys as we tow behind our RV. This rack fits the bill. Easy install with clear directions, not cutting or unjust in game. The only slight issue is the night off the Jeep was a little more than my wife was hoping for appearance. Other than that is all good.

Great rack and easy to install

Great looking and sturdy rack. Well worth the price. Assembly went quickly after removing the bumper and spare tire. Was able to finish assembly in a few hours in between loads of laundry. The hardware is labeled well which helped things go together smoothly with no guessing. Have had it on for a week now and just snugged things up again with no squeaks. Quite a bit of wind noise around 45 mph so I will be adding a wind deflector. The ladder attachment has been useful too. Very happy with this purchase.

            Great Rack

The install wasn't bad at all. I have the steel rear bumper with a hitch on my 75th anniversary so 4 more bolts than typical stock jeep bumpers and the bumper removal was the longest single part of the install (Still not hard). Did it by myself so two people not needed but it would have gone much faster. Once on it looks great and seems rock solid but will still need more time to break it in to give a better review. Pleased right now for sure. I wouldn't give it 5 stars on bang for the buck, only because after you pay for the rack, basket, and ladder it is no different than the Gobi. Definitely a lot more expensive than the Expedition rack when this one is touted to be cheaper.
