Merideth: If you're a fan of the factory LED headlights styling but don't want to pay the dealership premium, this set of DV8 Off-road LED headlights with the chrome housing and the clear lens will be a quality option for your 2018 or newer JL Wrangler. These will offer very similar features to the factory LED package with the LED halo, center cutout, and the LED projector, which will make a great pick if you want a more modernized look for the front end of your JL.This set will also be great to get some better lighting performance than the factory incandescent bulb if you need some better visibility while driving at night. These will have a tough construction with a die-cast aluminum and ABS plastic injected molded housing with a durable lens on the front to hold their own for wherever you're taking your Wrangler. These will also have an IP67 dust and waterproof rating to protect the lighting on the inside from getting damaged or the lens from getting fogged up. The LEDs inside are the star of the show, with the bright LED projector in the center for a consistent beam pattern and a significant amount of light output compared to the factory halogen bulbs. Not to mention, the LED halo on the outside will illuminate a bright white color with the running lights and has the ability to blink amber for the turn signals for additional function, even over the factory LED package. This set will come in at roughly $700 and will save you a couple of hundred bucks compared to the true OEM set. So even though this is at a more premium price point, you will still save a little bit when it comes to the style. Now, what I like most about this set compared to some other choices is not only the clean and modernized look of the housing and the LEDs but also you're getting that additional functionality out of the halo that not every set has.Others on the page a lot of the time are going to offer more of an aftermarket style design with the multiple projector setups, the black housing, or even just a color shift function. If you're not into the flashier aftermarket headlights and you want to keep it simple with the OE style, then these are going to be a great pick.Install will be pretty straightforward and will require some very minor wiring, but nothing crazy. So I'm still going to give it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour to get the job done with some basic hand tools. At this point, we can head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of the install and what that looks like. So that's going to wrap it up for me. Let's jump into it.Man: Tools required for this install include a ratchet, a clip remover tool, wire strippers and crimpers, a pair of scissors or diagonal cutters, an extension, a T-tap, male spade, a 10-millimeter socket, and some zip ties. What's up, guys? Today we're installing a set of headlights on our Wrangler. So first, we're going to watch a quick little uninstall video for removing the factory headlights, and I'll meet you right back here for the install.Woman: All right. So the first step in our install is to remove the pop clips that are holding on our grille. So let's grab a pop clip removal tool and get these out.All right. The rest of the grille is attached along the bottom and sides with pop clips. Firmly grab the grille and pull back towards you. And you should be able to remove it.With our headlights exposed now, we can grab a 10-millimeter socket if you can find one, and go ahead and zip the three bolts that are holding on your headlight. Pull your headlight off. Locate the connector at the back. Press down on the connector and remove it.Man: So now that we have our factory headlights removed, we can start doing our wiring for our new ones. So we have a wire that's coming off of our headlights that we're going to have to strip some lead back. We're going to be mounting a male spade onto the edge of it. And then on the body side, we're going to be using a T-tap to make our connections. This has a little metal fork in there that you're going to put the wire between. And then once you close it up, it'll cut through the outside of the wire to make our connection. And then with our male spade, this will just slide into the end of our T-tap to make our connection. And then we also have a harness that we're going to add a male spade to as well. So we'll strip back some wire and crimp those down.So now we already have T-taps installed onto our harnesses from a previous install. So I'll show you up close how this is going to work. We have that little slot in between our metal where we're going to put our wire. Then once we close this up and smush it down together with a pair of pliers, it'll make that connection for us.So now we'll just take our wire with our wire strippers and cut back some lead. And then we can twist up that lead and slide one of our male spades onto our wire. Then we'll take our crimpers to crimp that down. And then on our harness, it's going to be the same thing. We already have some lead strip back, so we can just twist that up. And then we'll slide our spade on top and crimp that one down. And now for our other side headlight, we can do that same thing. So now we can connect our harness for our daytime running lights. Now we're going to come down to our connector for our headlights. We have an orange and tan wire that we're going to add a T-tap to. We already have one on ours from a previous install, so we're just going to plug it in. But since you don't have one on there at home, you just follow the directions that I explained on the table. So we'll take our male spade and plug that into our T-tap. Then we have a shorter connector and a longer connector. The shorter is going to go to our passenger-side headlight bucket and the longer is going to go across the top of the radiator support to the driver's side headlight bucket. So now we'll take the shorter side and put that down into our passenger-side headlight bucket. You can run this wire however you'd like. I'm just going to run it right under these raised metal pieces. And then we'll drop it down into our headlight bucket. Now in the middle, I'm just going to tuck it underneath of this plastic just so that we keep it out of the way of our hood latch. So now on our passenger-side headlight bucket, we have a lot of excess wire. So we can bunch up our excess, and then we'll grab a zip tie just to clean this up. And then we can take a pair of scissors or diagonal cutters to chop off the excess of our zip tie and tuck that back in our bucket. So now we can install our headlight. So we'll grab our main harness and plug that in. And then we're going to grab the connector that matches our daytime running light harness and plug that in. Now for our wire that's left over, we're going to be plugging this into our turn signal lights inside of our fender liner. So we're just going to run that down towards the fender for now. And then we can slide our headlight into place. And then we'll grab our three 10-millimeter bolts and thread those in. And then we can grab our 10-millimeter socket and tighten down our bolts. And then we can do the same thing on the other side.So now coming down to our fender well, we have our wire that we have to connect to our turn signal. So if you have the factory fender liners like we do, you can remove this push clip. And then there's one right behind this plastic rivet. So we'll grab a clip remover tool. We'll pop out our first clip. Then we can pull back on our fender liner. And we'll get our clip tool up and around that second clip and pop it out from the back. And then we can pull back on our fender liner just enough to access our harness. So next, we would add our T-tap to our white wire with the green stripe right here. Once again, we already have one installed from a previous install video. I'm just going to grab our male spade, and we can plug that into our T-tap. Then at this point, we can do that same thing on the other side. And now once we've made our connection, we can fold our fender liner back and reinstall our two clips. And we'll do that same thing on the other side. Next, we can reinstall our grille as well as the six push clips up top. So align this up with our clips and press it into place. So now we can reinstall our clips up top. We have six holes. You're only going to be able to see five of them. The sixth one is just this one on the other side in the same spot.So that'll wrap up this review and install of the DV8 Off-road LED Headlights with chrome housing and clear lens for your 2018 and newer Jeep Wrangler JL. Thank you for watching. And for all things Wrangler, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
