Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review of the Boom Mat Sound Deadening Headliner, fitting all 2007 and up JKs. Now there are a few different versions of this headliner. One is going to be for those of you with the 2007 to 2010 JK and another for those of you with the '11 and up. And, there's also a different version for those of you with the two door and the four door of course. These are also available in three different colors - black, gray and white. So you do have a couple of decisions to make when purchasing these, but make sure you get the proper fitment and the color that you like. We are going to discuss how these get installed in your Jeep which is a very simple process, as well as a little bit about the construction and ultimately what these are designed to do. This sound deadening headliner is there for a couple of different reasons. One, the Jeep can be very noisy. Of course we don't have any sort of headliner from the factory in your hard top JK, so you can get a lot of noise, especially if you have a big knobby tire. So these will knock down a lot of that noise and make it a little bit easier to have a conversation on the inside of your Jeep. These are also going to help to insulate the hard top. So if you have the Jeep parked in the sun and you have a black or even a dark body color hard top on your Jeep, you know how hot it can get on the inside of your vehicle. Or, to the contrary of that, in the wintertime you can get a lot of cold bleeding through the top into the inside of the Jeep. Well, these will help with that. These add a thick layer of insulating foam which helps to keep the outside temperature outside and the inside temperature inside. Finally, in my opinion one of the big benefits of a headliner system like this is that it really makes the inside of your hard top look a lot more finished. I personally don't know why Jeep leaves the inside of the hard tops white in the first place. I think that they should be a dark color or even black. However, they do, and having this in there makes it feel like it's a much more finished product in my opinion. Even if these didn't have any of the sound deadening or do any of the insulating that they do, I personally would still like to run a set of headliners like this just because of the way that they look. Now, these are going to be right around the middle of the road as far as a headliner for your JK goes. There are certainly less expensive ones that are going to be thinner and probably not do as good of a job insulating, and there are also ones that are more expensive that in my opinion are better made than these. But, these are going to be a nice middle of the road. These are made of a one inch thick foam material that again is designed to both insulate and cut down on some of the noise inside your Jeep. Now the foam that these are made out of is a fairly low density foam and that's not necessarily a bad thing but it does contrast to some of the foam used by some other headliner manufacturers on the market. This is going to be a little bit of a softer, less dense foam. These also don't have any sort of finishing material on the top. The foam is designed so that it has a little bit of a texture, and it does look nice on the side that you actually see. However, these aren't wrapped in any sort of actual headliner material or carpeting like some of those other manufacturers on the market. These are again designed to fit specifically into your year range and your body style Jeep, so they do fit really well. As far as how they secure to the inside of your Jeep, the whole back of these is adhesive. You simply peel off this backing strip and the whole back is adhesive. So, you're not going to have to worry about these falling down, however you're also not going to be able to easily remove them if you've got a new top or a new Jeep of the same year range. To get these removed you're probably going to end up tearing up the foam material. I'll g

Function. Equip your vehicle's hardtop with Boom Mat Sound Deadening Headliners and enjoy reduced road clatter and quieter conversations. These acoustic panels dampen the noise from the engine and road, and tone down poor audio frequencies and vibrations to reduce noise levels in the interiors. They also insulate the interior from heat and cold.

Design. These Jeep Wrangler acoustical panels are 1" thick and have a pre-cut peel-and-stick design.

Fitment. These headliners are designed for 11-17 Jeep Wrangler JK 2-door models.

Would this help with roof flex from subs? Or is it just for Sound deadening

NickB

  • The Boom Mat Sound Deadening Headliner will help with the vibration from the subs to give you clear sound out of the system,it will also help insulated the vehicle as well.

As I have watched several product reviews on your site it was mentioned multiple time that there is a better headliner. What would Extreme Terrain rate as the top product? I am asking because of the HOT Nevada 120 degree summers! I understand if you can not answer this question, but thought I would give it a shot.

GaryM

  • Thank you for your question! I would recommend a headliner for more insulation than a sound deadening system. I have attached a link below to one of our options. https://www.extremeterrain.com/jtops-usa-headliner-2-door-red-0716jk.html

Where do the long skinny strips go?

Anonymous

  • Hello, those are Filler Strips, Without the “filler strips”, the headliner will conform to the ridges in the top leaving an uneven appearance.

    Love These!

Knocked out the wind noise from my rack, and took some of the road noise as well. It was a little bit tricky with the rollbar speakers, but taking off the hardtop is much simpler. Since I had the rack, I was too lazy to remove it and it was fine. Keeps aren't the most sound proof trucks anyway but I would recommend these!

    RETURNED!

I'm not one to return items and dread the process but this item was worthy of the process. -cheap foam sticker. It's thick and the glue side is super sticky. -the ends aren't sealed, it's just open portions of form. Not good for a rainy day. -easy to install. -I ended buying the HotHead Headliner. 100 times better! Check them out.

Review from Boom Mat Sound Deadening Headliner - Black (11-17 Wrangler JK 4 Door)

    Nice top mats

I haven't had a chance to try these out yet, as I just installed them, and the tops are off due to perfect weather. This review is for the product straight out of the box, and installation. First, it's a great looking mat. It's 1" foam, black, and has a pebble texture to it on the outside. Looks professional once installed. Second, the install of the strips. It's simple enough to put on. My only complaint is those strips you're supposed to use to fill in the small gaps prior to application. They were strewn about all over the box, and they are cut to all different varying lengths. I know this is because each one is for a specific area, but good luck determining where they go. I didn't have enough long ones to fit both the freedom tops and the rear top, when it was all said and done. Some of my long strips were a half inch too long for even the longest gap, and had to be trimmed back after they were installed. Not a big deal really, but why not just send them all long and short, with the instruction to trim them to size? Having them sometimes 1/4" difference in length was a little ridiculous. Third, installing the mat. It's easy. They're all lined with a very sticky adhesive sheet on the back, and it's pretty simple to peel & apply. I would recommend setting it in place with the backer on, and then using a weight to hold down one side. This keeps it aligned while you move to the other side and work that end. Oh yeah, clean your tops with isopropyl alcohol before installing to remove dirt, handprints & anything else that'll keep it from sticking. Fourth, overall look. I like mine. I will say that some of those filler strips being short caused my thick foam mat to have an indebted area where it dipped in, which I had to fix by pulling the mat back. I hope this doesn't affect adhesion over time. Overall, it's pretty cool. The echo chamber reverberation effect I got inside my Jeep after rhino lining the outside of my tops was driving me crazy, and I hope these mats will capture some of that noise. Oh yeah... I hope the adhesive holds up in 100+ Texas Summers. We'll see.

    Boom Mat Headliner Install

I was looking for something to keep the heat and cold at bay and found the Boom Mat after installing them I find that the quality of the stereo sound is better. I also feel that the cold temps do not seem to be so bad. I have not had much of a chance here in Georgia to feel the heat just yet but that time is coming. All black Jeep these mats will be tested and I will update my review after some warmer weather. So far I love them and they look great and fit well.

    Easy Install, Looks Great

Simply put it does what it's supposed to. Keeps heat or cold in depending on the time of year. Assists with road noise so you can actually hold a conversation instead of a yelling contest. Also helps out the acoustics inside the jeep so you don't have to turn up the music so loud just to drown out everything (unless that's your intention). On top of all that it looks great once its finished. It gives the jeep the much needed break up of the white top to match the black interior. All in all its a great product and worth getting.

Review from Boom Mat Sound Deadening Headliner - Black (11-17 Wrangler JK 4 Door)

One of the easiest things I've ever had to install!

The Boom Mat is one of the easiest things I've had to install. The ease of taking off the hardtop to laying it on the floor, cleaning very good with alcohol and let dry. The precut strips are very easy to peel the backing off and place on the grooves of the hardtop. Once those were in place for about 15 minutes I installed the large piece over them. Paper backing was easy to remove and the mat was done in a matter of minutes. I let the tops set for about 30 minutes and then I re-installed the tops. Done! I can't believe how easy it was, even for a gal! HA!

    Good aesthetics / Slightly functional

Great quality, excellent fit and the appearance is sharp inside the vehicle. I much prefer these over the other sound and insulation options for the roof. Does it work? Not much!!! I do notice a slight reduction in wind noise. If you expected to transform the noise level with these it won't happen. I am also not sure I could convince anyone that it keeps things any cooler or warmer. It does help my aftermarket stereo...Slightly... A little less echo and my classic tunes sound warmer... Keep in mind, the volume still needs to be turned up to drown out the wind noise...

Great product. Makes the Jeep a lot quieter.

This is a great product. It took me about an hour to install. Everything fit without a problem. I had a friend help me. He aligned the mat and I placed it down. It stuck without a problem. It took about 15 mins to dry. There is about an inch of foam that makes the jeep look great inside as well. I have had them for about 1 month now and I can feel a difference in temperature on a hot day. It is great when you are in Florida
