My jeep already has a receiver which i can tow a basket or a small trailer, thinking in getting this bumper and cut the receiver, anybody tried that before?

    LuisB

    • It is not recommended to cut the receiver from the Barricade Double Tubular Rear Bumper as this would void the warranty of the bumper. Depending on the year of your Wrangler, cutting the hitch from this may not provide adequate clearance for your existing receiver to remain installed.

Thank you for answering my first question. I saw the question about 100lb bike rack being okay but what is the total weight the receiver could handle with a cargo rack? I would guess around 200lb. would be the most I would need to put on in, can it handle that?

    ZackM

    • The Barricade Double Tubular Rear Bumper w/ Receiver Hitch is not rated, so there isn't a max weight listed. A small cargo rack or bike rack supporting 100-200 pounds would be fine.

This bumper is described as a "no drilling required" bumper, yet in the install/review video the guy said that for a TJ drilling IS REQUIRED. I just purchased this bumper and it arrives on Monday. I'll be returning it if there is drilling required, please clarify.

    ZackM

    • There actually was in fact drilling required. Just FYI

While not rated for towing will the hitch support a bike rack? Maybe 100lbs fully loaded.

    Rick

    • Hello, yes, this hitch should support a bike rack.

      Nice Bumper

First "appearance" modification for my 2003 new to me Jeep. The actual bumper and mounting hardware are excellent. The mounting hardware provides for four(4) bolts per side. However, there are only 2 bolts per side stock. And without significant work, no easy way to drill holes for the additional two(per side) bolts. The instructions are vague and include very grainy photos which are much like photos of Sasquatch. However, instructions are really superfluous, as the installation process is pretty straightforward. Getting the old bumper off was the longest part of the installation process. Total install time was under 2hrs - from unboxing to putting the tools away. I am very happy with the new bumper. It looks great and is a big improvement over stock. Pleased with the purchase.

      Sad

Extreme terrain has great customer service but bumper company Barricade has poor quality control. Two different bumpers, issues with both. One missing all hardware and plastic tub cap cover damaged with no damage to delivery box. Second one the receiver wasn’t attached straight. Can’t speak to fit. Cost me time, cost extreme terrain 4 different shipments.

      just what I needed

Needed the built in receiver for my bike rack. Went on quick and easy on my existing brackets. I already had a tube bumper, but without the receiver hitch. Looks great.

      Light weight

The bumper fit well and was easy to install. However, this bumper seems flimsy and light weight. It is advertised as powder coated stainless steel but it must be made from an alloy of stainless because a magnet sticks to it unlike true stainless that is non-magnetic. Overall I would recommend against it if you want a bumper for protection, this one is too light.

      Nice look

Looks great! Great value for the money. The 4outside mounting bracket holes match up easily. However you need to drill 4 additional mounting holes into the back of the frame for inside holes on the mounting bracket. Drilling the holes is easy, getting the nuts on the bolts is problematic since it is nearly impossible to reach up under the back side of the frame to start the nuts. Good look.

      Rear Bumper

Looks great on my 97 Wrangler sport. The install was not as easy you would think, the gas tank is in the way and takes some time to get the bolts on without dropping the tank. Other than that they are a great upgrade.

      Took a Minute

This bumper took a while to install. I ended up having to drill 4 holes in order to install this bumper. May be due to aftermarket replacements by prior owners, but made for a aggravating Friday evening. Also, I have a 33/12.50 spare tire and will need an extension because the tailgate will not close.

      Great for price.

The rear bumper bolted on with ease and was easy to adjust for a perfect fit. The bumpers finish gives it a plastic appearance. Overall very satisfied.

      Good bumper

Liked the looks, however had to drill the 4 (two on each side) inside holes. Very difficult on the drivers side to get washers and nuts on bolts. It indicated that this was a bolt on unit. Wrong!!!

      Not so easy replacement.

Had to drill holes in frame for rear bumper, had to buy new bolts for front bumper. Had to lower gas tank to install rear bumper. Other than that they look great.

Review from Barricade Double Tubular Rear Bumper w/ Receiver Hitch - Polished (87-06 Wrangler YJ & TJ)

      Love it!

The bumper was clean, polished without blemish and was easy to install. I definitely needed the additional bracket that was included for my 2006 Wrangler. The hardest part was getting the old one off. It was about 2 inches shorter than my old one but it didn't matter due to the bracket and it actually fits the Jeep better than the old one. I am happy with the receiver as I can attach my bike rake to ride elsewhere.

      Perfect Rear Bumper...

This Barricade Double Tubular Rear Bumper took 20 minutes to install and is a perfect match to the front bumper from Barricade. The tubular design with textured black is perfect for a correct look for the late '80s.

Remove and replace rear tube bumper 04 wrangler

The quality control is horrible on this bump this bumper is a universal fit, It is centered to the jeep but not the spare tire there is no adjustment left on the right bracket to move the bumper over to the right and if you did move it over to the right in the bumper would be off-center and would be more bumper sticking out on the right side of the jeep but there's no adjustment left on the right side on the brackets the bumpers about it inch and a half off from being center to the spare tire. The mounting instructions were way different then the rear reinforcement on the jeep, so if you're rear reinforcement only has two holes on each side you will have four holes with no bolts in it on the mounting bracket, you will only use it to outer holes, but it doesn't tell you that the mounting instructions. Want to figure out what's going on with it it only takes about 15-20 minutes to put it on.

      Barricade bumper installation

Installation was very simple if you have factory size spare. If you have an oversized spare you will have to modify spare tire carrier. After that realization about 6 hours.

      Rear Bumper a delight

I ordered this bumper because after I got the old one off to install my new roof rack I was told it would cost over $100 just to extract the broken screw from out of the bumper. Better to get a new one for almost the sane cost. So happy I made that decision. Great replacement with tough appearance!
