Will this fit on a spare tire that is a 12.5" wide on a wheel with 3.75" back spacing, or is the mount too short?

    StevenV

    • MORryde does not list a maximum backspacing for install of their MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder w/ Tall Tray, 3.75" of backspacing should be fine!

      Great Gas Can Mount

I've been using it for about a year and it has been a solid carrier. I was given a replacement under a recall, but never had a problem with the original. Used with a stock tire carrier and at first with stock wheels. Modified bracket to make it tight against tire. With 35's and aftermarket wheels don't need the mod.

Quality Craftmanship - Just Wrong Bolt

This would be a 5 Star review had the right bolt been provided. Great quality product and beefy. Adapter hole was too small and a 3/8 bolt with different washer and lock washer solved it. However, Moryde can tighten up the Quality Control and you’d save some time.

      Seems beefy

I used it on a ride this past weekend, no noticeable movement or weakening. I think this is going to work well for to carry a 5 gallon jerry can.

      Great Quality, Looks Fantastic

So far it's been great! The quality of the material and the workmanship, including the welds, seems to be top notch. I've heard concerns of the carrier failing with the weight of a full can, and the constant bouncing of a trail; however I don't see that being a concern. I guess only time will tell. I am currently running a wheel with 3.75" backspacing and a 35x12.5 General Grabber AT2 as my spare and the fuel can barely fits on there. Anything more than that and I don't think it would work.

i like it, it is lite weight but strong enough for the trails, "does not bonce around" and it's always good to have a little back up fuel. i plan on getting more for fuel and water

      Generally okay

The installation went well until I found that the 1/2" bolt provided to attach the tray did not fit the threads on the adapter. I couldn't find a bolt in my workshop with the right threads, so I used a smaller bolt and ran it all the way through the adapter. I'll need to keep wrenches in my jeep to remove the tray if I need to change a tire because my lug wrench will not fit the bolt. Also, I bought a plastic Jerry can to reduce weight, but it was too large for the tray. I switched to a metal Jerry Can and it fit. I've been out in the boonies elk hunting and the tray performed very well. It's much better than keeping a smelly gas can in the back of my Jeep.

      finish work still required.

The mounting of the bracket and tray was extremely easy. The only problem encountered was the sleeve that held the tray on the mounting arm still had a large amount of weld residue still in the sleeve. I had to use a Dremel to grind down the left over weld material to allow the sleeve of the tray to slide onto the arm. Once it was ground down it fit great.

      works great

it works great, but it came with the wrong screws to hold the tray to the bar. i had to go to the hardware store to pick up some nuts and a new bolt to hold it in place but otherwise it works great.

Spare tire Jerry can holder w/Tall Tray.

Got this out of stock item today. Set up to mount holder to spare tire mount, and 1/2 "bolt provided is way to large for pre drilledandtaped hole. Found out hole is threaded for metric bolt not standard. Plus tray holder is crooked. Returning, not replacing.... boo

Review from MORryde Spare Tire Jerry Can Holder w/ Short Tray (87-18 Wrangler YJ, TJ & JK)

      Works after trip to store

Well built and solid, but the 1/2 inch bolt to connect the shelf to the mount does not even come close to fitting. I tried metric but no go. I finally used a 3/8 inch bolt, nut and washers to connect the two together. Also, my jerry can would not fit as it's the type with the outside weld. The manufacturer could have made the mounting shelf 1/2 inch wider to accommodate ALL jerry cans so right now it is unusable until I get another can that fits. It would be nice if that fact was in the product description.

      POOR AND CHEAPER QUALITY

Poor quality. Noisy. Hole on the main bracket is not straight. Regret not to returned right away. Hope let me returned, not for a credit, just to show them how bad is made it.

      Spare tire jerry can holder

Not really happy with the quality of the item. Was shipped with a 1/2 inch bolt to attach tray unit with the arm portion. The threaded hole for that bolt was not 1/2 inch, it was actually 3/8 inch. Also, the carrier still moves back and forth, so not very tight. Additionally, the arm that is secured behind the spare tire has a raised, welded circular piece that takes away space for your spare tire to be as secure as it's supposed to be. IMO, not very good quality for $135.
