These Barricade Extreme HD Rocker Steps are for those of you that have a 1997 through 2006 TJ that are looking for a piece that's going to be a very useful step and also a little bit of light protection for the rocker area of your Wrangler. This is going to be a very easy one out of three wrenches for the installation and I'm gonna show you how to do that in just a second. So, anytime you're looking for something that bolts into this area of your Jeep, you're going to find two main categories. One is going to be a step and the other is going to be armor, and then there are a bunch of things that fall somewhere in the middle. This falls somewhere in that center but a little bit more toward the step side of the spectrum. So, in general, a step is going to sit away from the side of the Jeep a little bit more, sit a little bit lower and be a good useful step, but not offer quite as much protection whereas a piece of armor will be tucked up nice and tight to the body so it's not a hindrance and it's not gonna get hung up off-road. And the main point of armor is to protect the Jeep and it may also be kind of a step but usually not quite as useful. So, again, this falls somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. It is going to sit pretty low and pretty far away from the Jeep, so it is going to be very useful as a step, but it is also pretty well-built nice and strong so it is going to be able to stand up to a little bit of abuse off-road and certainly anything that might get thrown at it on the road: jotting, shopping carts, that kind of thing, this is going to offer some really nice protection against. Now, if you are looking for all out armor for the side of your TJ, the strongest stuff you can find is the stuff that's going to bolt directly through the rocker area of the Jeep here. A lot of that will also have a sandwich plate on the other side and that is just going to be rock solid, completely indestructible, you're never going to damage this part of the Jeep. But it's a little bit more expensive, it's not as good as a step as this is and you generally have to drill through the body of the Jeep. So, if you're not looking for that and you want something that's more of a step, that's where this comes in. This is a very nice option for that. This is going to be a nice large piece of tubing, everything is covered in a black textured powder coat finish that's going to help resist any sort of rust or corrosion. It does have these big flat stepping surfaces on the top here with the holes punched out of them and that's a little bit for style, a little bit of weight reduction, but more just adds to the aesthetic of this piece. And as we said a couple of times now, because of where it sits on the Jeep, it's going to be a very, very useful step. The big benefit to a piece from Barricade is that they're known for building high-quality stuff at a very fair price and a pair of these rocker steps is going to come in right around $250 which I think is a very good price for what you're going to get here. So, like I said before, this is a very easy piece to install. Let me show you how to do it.For this installation, we used a 19-millimeter socket on a half-inch pneumatic impact. These rocker steps are going to be a very easy one out of three wrench installation, all we have to do is remove a couple of body bolts and then reinstall them with the rocker panels in place. So, the first step here is getting underneath the Jeep and zipping out those body bolts. Now, if you've never removed the body bolt before even in the newest TJ, there's a chance that there can be a little bit of rust here and you certainly do not wanna break one of these body bolts because it can be very, very difficult to extract even to the point where you may end up having to cut holes in the body of the Jeep to get to the top of that bolt from the inside. So, be very, very careful here. Now, if you are very careful, you can find some spots or you can spray a little bit of penetrating oil and you can actually get to the top side of that bolt. So, I would do that a couple of times a day for a couple of days before the installation. Again, you cannot be too careful here. And then when you go ahead and break these loose, I'll use a nice big breaker bar but be easy, be careful, and do not break those bolts. Ours have been in and out a bunch of times so I'm just gonna be able to use a half-inch impact with no chance of breaking them. And again, we're just gonna zip out this bolt here and the one in the back. So, now that we have those bolts out, it's really just a matter of reinstalling them with the rocker step in place, but there is a specific order to the hardware here. So, you're going to have your factory bolt along with the small washer that comes in your hardware package that's going to go through the rocker panel first, then you're going to have this large spacer piece that comes in your rocker panel packaging that'll go on next. Then finally, the factory rubber spacer piece that's gonna go on next. And then that is how we can get it installed on the Jeep. So, I just wanted to show you what the order of the hardware was here. We're gonna get back on the creeper on the ground and get everything assembled. So, it'll definitely help to have an extra set of hands around for this part. You can have one person to support one end while you get the bolt started in the other. A couple of turns on our bolt here. Once you have the hardware started by hand, you can tighten it down. So, if you're looking for a very useful step and also a piece that's going to offer a little bit of protection to the rocker area of your TJ, I would recommend this option from Barricade and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.
