Now, throttle body spacers are a littleÂ bit controversial. Some peopleÂ think thatÂ they haveÂ a large effect, others thinkÂ that they don'tÂ have as much of anÂ effect on your engine. But it reallyÂ comesÂ down to youÂ and what you wannaÂ use your Jeep for. If you've done other powerÂ adders, if this isÂ something that you're addingÂ on just to squeeze that littleÂ bitÂ ofÂ extra out of your Jeep, then it's gonna be an option for you. Now, there areÂ goingÂ to be aÂ couple different versionsÂ of this throttle body spacer, one for thoseÂ of you withÂ the 2007 to 2011 3.8 liter, and one forÂ those of you with a 2012Â and upÂ 3.6Â liter. So, make sure you get the rightÂ spacer for your Jeep. Today we're goingÂ to talkÂ throughÂ the installationÂ ofÂ thisÂ throttleÂ body spacer, which is a veryÂ simple oneÂ outÂ of three wrench install. EvenÂ though this is somethingÂ that's onÂ the engineÂ and some of you might beÂ aÂ little bit worried whether or not youÂ can do this inÂ your driveway, it's a very,Â very simple install, will take less thanÂ an hourÂ to do, and anyone can do it in their driveway, but we'll talkÂ more about thatÂ install inÂ just a second.The idea behindÂ the throttle bodyÂ spacer is to spin theÂ air as it goes intoÂ theÂ engine whichÂ will accelerate itÂ allowing you to getÂ more airÂ and thereforeÂ more fuel intoÂ the engine, giving youÂ more power. Now, youÂ might notice this in the way of fuelÂ efficiency, of a little bit of additionalÂ throttle response, or actualÂ horse powerÂ especiallyÂ at the topÂ end of the RPMÂ rangeÂ whichÂ unfortunately isn't an areaÂ thatÂ we spend a ton of time in. If you've justÂ installed 33s or big 35 inch tiresÂ on yourÂ Jeep and you don't like thatÂ down on power feeling that you have, IÂ wouldn't go withÂ the throttle body spacerÂ right offÂ the bat. You're gonna wanna go ahead andÂ regear the Jeep, getÂ it back to theÂ factory final drive ratioÂ before going ahead and addingÂ otherÂ power adders. But again, if you've alreadyÂ doneÂ a bunch of stuff, you wantÂ toÂ squeeze that little extra bit out, thisÂ is gonna be an optionÂ forÂ you.Now, thisÂ one from AIRAID is going to be oneÂ of the more expensive throttle bodyÂ spacersÂ thatÂ we have on this site. ThereÂ is an optionÂ out there that'sÂ aboutÂ $100 less expensive than thisÂ one. However, thisÂ has thatÂ HelixÂ designÂ on the inside of it. ReallyÂ designedÂ toÂ spin the air and cram as much air intoÂ the engine as possible, where that otherÂ versionÂ doesn'tÂ have that. This spacer isÂ made out ofÂ an aircraft quality 6061-T6Â aluminumÂ which isÂ a very high-qualityÂ material. It'sÂ going to be very strongÂ and veryÂ lightweight, but then again this isÂ just aÂ throttle body spacer, itÂ doesn't need to hold upÂ to aÂ lotÂ of wearÂ and tear. This comes covered with a redÂ anodized finish, which isÂ a nice feature, it keeps the aluminum from oxidizing. This is alsoÂ going to comeÂ with all of theÂ hardware that you're goingÂ to need toÂ get itÂ installedÂ because you are goingÂ to need some longer bolts once you haveÂ the spacer installed.Now as I saidÂ before, this does have AIRAID'sÂ patented HelixÂ design. It has thatÂ corkscrewÂ pattern on the inside of the throttleÂ body spacer really designed toÂ spin the air and that's something thatÂ you're not goingÂ toÂ get from some of theÂ other throttle body spacer manufacturersÂ outÂ there. Like IÂ said before, thisÂ isÂ somethingÂ that anybody canÂ get installedÂ in their driveway. It's a veryÂ simple oneÂ out ofÂ three wrench install andÂ it'llÂ take youÂ lessÂ than an hour to get boltedÂ up.Now, the first step inÂ the processÂ isÂ goingÂ to be removing the ambient airÂ temperature sensor out of the intakeÂ tubeÂ so that you can then unbolt theÂ clamps thatÂ hold the intake tube inÂ placeÂ and getÂ it outÂ of the way. OnceÂ it's moved, it's reallyÂ just a matter ofÂ removingÂ the four bolts that areÂ holdingÂ theÂ throttle body down. Completely removeÂ it, place your gasket, your throttle bodyÂ spacer in place, put the throttleÂ body backÂ down on topÂ of that, and use the longer,Â included bolts to get everything torquedÂ down. Once it's tight, justÂ reinstalledÂ that air intake tube and your ambient airÂ temperature sensorÂ and you're finished. Again, even if you're not somebody who'sÂ comfortable doing engine work, this isÂ something thatÂ you can very easilyÂ do. It'sÂ just a couple of bolts, very simpleÂ to install.This spacer is going to runÂ you right around $140 and it is aÂ veryÂ high-quality spacer. It's veryÂ well built, it's going to fit right, it has the redÂ anodized finish on it, and it has thatÂ HelixÂ on the inside ofÂ it,Â designed to spin the air, that some of the lessÂ expensiveÂ optionsÂ doÂ not have. If you've added aÂ lot ofÂ other power adders, you wantÂ aÂ throttle body spacer toÂ squeeze everyÂ lastÂ little bitÂ of power out of yourÂ engine, andÂ you have the budgetÂ for it, IÂ think this is a really well-built choice.So, if you've already done some work toÂ getÂ as muchÂ power outÂ ofÂ your Jeep asÂ possible and you wantÂ every last drop, addingÂ a throttleÂ body spacerÂ can helpÂ with someÂ throttleÂ response, some torque,Â a little bit of power, and as long as you have the budget forÂ it, thisÂ is gonna beÂ an easy install.So, that'sÂ myÂ reviewÂ ofÂ theÂ AIRAIDÂ Powerade throttle body spacer fittingÂ your 2007 and up JK that you can findÂ right here at extremeterrain.com.
