Rugged Ridge Xtreme Heavy Duty Rear Bumper
First of all, my order was delivered in 2 days! How the heck can they do that?
I love the look and quality of this bumper. There is plenty of steel there and it was nice to have my wife to help move it around the garage. The installation, however, can be completed by one person as the brackets are removed from the bumper for installation, thus reducing the weight.
It took me about 10 minutes to take off the stock bumper, which was obviously made by Little Tykes. The stock bumper must weigh all of 25 pounds and is thin plastic. You need a short #16 metric socket to remove the stock bolts, which you use again on the new bumper. You will also need a #18 short metric socket for the bolts on the new bumper, as well as a medium screw driver to line up the bolt holes. The driver side bracket has 2 bolts on the outside frame and 1 bolt you removed from the old bumper during removal. The passenger side mounting bracket has 2 bolts on the outside frame, 1 nut plate that is removed from the new bumper and then inserted into the frame tube, and 1 bolt you removed from the old bumper during removal. That's all there is to it. Here's the only negative part of the install. The passenger side single bolt hole on the new bumper was drilled about 3/8ths inch short of where it is supposed to be. Luckily I have a drill press, so I was able to drill out the bracket and then I added an over sized washer to make it all fit. Unfortunately this turned what could have been a simple 1 hour install into a couple of hours. The drilling could also be done with a hand drill, and a couple of progressively larger drill bits to enlarge the opening.
Now that I have the bumper mounted, I think it looks awesome. It is solid product and the texture is excellent. Overall it is a very impressive looking addition to my jeep.
