Hey, guys. Today, I'm here with the Rugged Ridge Tire Carrier Delete Kit, fitting all 2007 to 2018 JK Wranglers. So if you've deleted your spare tire carrier for either to change up the look of the back end of your Wrangler or even to drop some weight, it can leave the tailgate looking a bit unfinished. This option by Rugged Ridge is gonna be a perfect solution to clean up the back end of your Wrangler, clean up the look of your tailgate while also adding a couple of different benefits. So, first off, you have the vent plate which is gonna protect the inside of your cabin area from getting any mud, dirt, debris kicked up into it, while still allowing all of that airflow. You also get a license plate relocation bracket to move it to a more visible location and even have the option to keep your factory third brake light, which I do, personally, like. The only thing that I would have liked to see out of this kit is a light for your license plate since it is required in most states to have one. However, that is a very inexpensive and easy solution, either looking to do a DIY solution or we offer a ton of different options on our page right now. So this is gonna be roughly $90, and in my personal opinion, I think that for the extra couple of benefits over the other options, that the extra couple of bucks is definitely worth it. Now, other less expensive options that you may be taking a look at may just be for the vent covers to clean up the look of your tailgate without relocating your license plate. And even if it does come with the option to relocate your license plate, it may not come with an option to mount up your factory third brake light or come with a third brake light at all. Personally, I think for the extra couple of bucks, it's worth it. And not to mention, it comes with a five-year limited warranty to keep a peace of mind. So install is gonna be a pretty easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You're gonna need a couple of hand tools to get this installed. So speaking of that, let's jump into the install now. The tools that I used for my install today were an impact wrench, a 13-millimeter ratcheting wrench, a 10-millimeter box or open-ended wrench, a quarter-inch drive ratchet, a 3-inch extension, a 13-millimeter and 10-millimeter socket, a T20 Torx bit, and a Phillips head screwdriver. So your first step is, obviously, going to be to take off your spare tire. Now, it will depend on your lug nut size but it usually is a 19-millimeter deep socket, then you can grab a 13-millimeter socket and we can go ahead and start removing the bolts that are holding on our spare tire carrier. Now, make sure for this last bolt that you have a handle on your tire carrier because it will come off. So before you actually take the carrier off, if you do have the factory wiring harness, you will have to disconnect it. Now, we previously had a heavy-duty bumper and tire carrier on this. So we don't actually have that but I still wanna show you the location of it. So there will be a wiring harness coming off of your third brake light, going into this hole with a grommet. So you can disconnect it by opening up your tailgate. And once the tailgate is open, you can pop off this vent cover and you'll see where you can unplug the factory wiring harness. So our tire delete kit will actually come with a small bracket to allow us to swap over our third brake light from our factory tire carrier on to our new delete bracket. So we're gonna use a T20 Torx bit in order to remove the four screws that are holding in our third brake light. So now, we're ready to install our third brake light on our license plate relocation bracket. You wanna make sure that it's oriented in the correct way with the two holes on this backplate at the top and then the two tabs at the bottom. Now, we also have another plate that we're gonna line up here in just a minute to attach these four holes to. So you're gonna insert the third brake light and the bottom two holes will line up at the bottom. Rugged Ridge does provide you with new hardware. Now, we can install our bracket, lining up the two holes here as well as the holes on our third brake light. Then we can take our Phillips head screwdriver and the provided screw and secure that down. Now, you may wanna lift up on this just a little bit so everything lines up correctly. So I actually really like how this bracket sits. There's a little cutout here for the third brake light. It looks very nice and clean. Now, I would recommend to mount up your license plate before we actually mount this to our vent cover, that's just going to allow us a little bit more room to work with.So we can go ahead and mount up our license plate using the provided hardware. You should have four 10-millimeter bolts, two flat washers for each, a lock washer and a nut for each of those bolts. So I'm just going to insert that bolt and then flip it over so we can secure it down using our flat washer, lock washer, and a nut. Now, we're gonna do the same thing for the other three. Now, after your license plate is mounted up, you can grab a 10-millimeter socket and 10-millimeter wrench, we can go ahead and tighten those down. So now, what we can do is mount up our vent cover. So this is gonna be pretty sturdy, made of a steel construction, steel plating with a textured black powder coat finish. So it's gonna resist any rust or corrosion while it's mounted up to the back of your Wrangler. You do get these nice vents here to simulate what you used to have right here, which would have been a vent. That's gonna allow airflow inside of the cab area. And you even get this Rugged Ridge branding down at the bottom for a little bit of extra styling. So what we're gonna do is mount up our vent cover with six of the OEM bolts and leave these two at the top untouched so we can mount up our license plate relocation bracket over there. So I do like down at the bottom where it does say Rugged Ridge, you kind of get that contrast, you see the paint through it. It looks really nice for that extra styling, like I mentioned. And the only thing that I really would like to have seen out of this but it's not really a big deal, it's not a make or break, is a gasket to protect from metal on metal contact just to protect your paint. But it's very easy to do, you can grab some gasket material if it means that much to you. So I'm just gonna thread these in, leave them pretty hand loose. I'm just gonna leave these hand-tight, just to make sure that all of the bolts fit in, especially, when we move to the license plate relocation bracket bolts. What you can do now is grab the two remaining factory bolts and we can bolt the license plate relocation bracket into the top of our vent cover. Now it's easy to hand thread one in first and move to the other one. You're not gonna have a whole ton of room to work with so I recommend putting a bolt through the bracket and then into the vent cover into the back of the tailgate. So as you can see, the third brake light is moving around a bit, that's gonna be sandwiched in between the relocation bracket and our vent cover so that will be pretty solid once we're finished with it. So what I'm gonna do is grab a 13-millimeter socket, the one that we used before. I have an extension on there too just to give myself a little bit more room to work with. And we're gonna go ahead and tighten down these six bolts around and then we're gonna grab a 13-millimeter wrench, and then tighten down the top two. So I grabbed a 13-millimeter ratcheting wrench for convenience sake. You can use a 13-millimeter open-ended or box wrench to do this as well. But the reason why we're using a wrench is we don't have a lot of room back there. I do still like how this sticks out far enough where the vents are still open, allowing that airflow in the cab area, I think that was a really good design on Rugged Ridge's part. And, overall, I think this looks really good. So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install. For more videos like this, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
