      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. It's Sara with extremeterrain.com. And today, we have a review and install of the Rugged Ridge Rear Tube Doors, fitting your '18 and newer Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited. These rear tube doors are constructed from one-and-a-half-inch mandrel-bent tubing with a textured black powder coat finish. These doors also include an adjustable nylon strap to prevent the door opening all the way and rubber stoppers to prevent rattling while you're driving. These rear doors are for those of you who want your passengers to feel like they're face to face with the trail, but still wanna provide a little bit more protection than running doorless. Coming in at around $430, these tube doors are middle of the road price-wise. But for your money, you're getting a nice durable tube door that features direct bolt up installation and has this really nice latch that some of the lower price options do not. I'm giving this install one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It features a direct bolt up installation and can be done in approximately one hour. So, with that said, let's jump right into our install. For this install, we used a 3/8 drive ratchet, a small extension, a 13-millimeter socket, a T40 Torx socket, a T50 Torx socket, a 13-millimeter wrench, and a trim panel removal tool. All right, so the first step in our uninstall is to remove the bolt at the bottom of these hinges with a T50 Torx. Now, no matter what you read online, you do not wanna take them out here. So, using the T50 torx, loosen these up. All right, so now we're gonna open our rear door and take the last bolt out holding our hinge in. Using a T40 Torx bit, remove the bolt that holds in this part of the hinge. Now, the only thing holding your door from swinging all the way out is this strap. We're gonna take that out now. Using a trim panel removal tool, get under the bottom part here and pull it straight out. And now, you can pull down. Once that piece is out of the way, remove the strap from the hook here. And you also have to disconnect this connector. Now, the door can swing freely. At this point, we can lift the door upwards, we can get it out of the hinges. All right, at this point, we're gonna install these hinges using the included hardware. We have the driver side door in front of us and we're gonna grab the hinges that look like this. Line them up so they go to the outside of where the hinge mounts. The little cutout should line up as well. So, once you have your hinges lined up, grab the provided hardware. Make sure there's a washer on this bolt. We're also gonna use a washer and nut on the other side. So, we are gonna tighten these down just enough so that we can still get a little bit of play out of this for when we install it on the Jeep. Using a 13-millimeter wrench and socket, snug these down. Now, we'll repeat that with our second hinge. All right, let's get this installed on our Jeep.At this point, in the same way that you took the factory door off, line up both of these studs and slide your door into place. You can go ahead and try to close your door, get it closer to where it needs to be. Then we're going to reinstall the factory sleeves on the bottom. Once you have these started, grab your T50 torx socket and tighten these down. We'll repeat that with the bottom one. With the bolts of the bottom of the hinges tight, you can close your door. Make sure that latches nice and tight. And when it does, you can tighten down the bolts on the outside of the hinges. Using a 13-millimeter socket and 13-millimeter wrench, tighten these down. All right, once those hinge bolts are tight, just wanna double-check the function of your door. And the final step is to install this strap on the inside. This is gonna install right in the factory location over both hooks. Similar to the factory style, this strap goes over top of the hook on the door and then the same hook on the inside of your Jeep. You can install this trim piece here by first inserting these tabs in the top portion and then pressing in on the clips on the bottom. All right, now you can repeat that process on the other side. All right, that's going to do it for the review and install of our tube doors. Remember for all things Jeep, keep it at extremeterrain.com.
