I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review and installation of the Rugged Ridge Rear Corner Guards fitting all 2007 and up JKs. These are available for both your two-door and four-door JKs, so make sure you get the right one for your Jeep, and they're available in this diamond plate finish as well as a smooth matte finish, so you have a couple of different options there. Today we're going to talk through the installation of these corner guards, which is a very simple one out of three wrenches. There is going to be a minor amount of trimming of your license-plate mount in order to get these installed, however it is something you can very do very easily with a sharp razor knife, so we are still giving this a very simple one out of three wrenches. We're also going to talk through the construction and a few of the other features of these guards. These are for those of you who want to change up the look of your Jeep. Now, these are going to provide some light protection against scratching on the corners of your Jeep, or if you already have some damage to the rear corner from off-roading and you're just looking to cover it up, these will do the trick. However, being that these are plastic, they're not going to protect the corners of your tub from hardcore off-roading damage. If you lay your Jeep over onto a rock or a stump, these are certainly going to just crack and you're still going to receive the same of damage you would if these are not installed. So these are going to be a visual mod. I think they're priced accordingly for a visual mod and, in my opinion, they're pretty well built. As far as construction goes, as I mentioned these are plastic. They do attach with 3M tape. However there is a little bit of disassembly of the Jeep to do to get them installed. We'll touch on the rest of the installation in just a minute. As I said, you can get these in a couple of different finishes. These have the diamond plate finish. You can also get these in a matte flat finish as well without the diamond plate pattern, and that really comes down to style, your build, what you're looking for on your Jeep. Other than that there isn't too much to say about these, they are pretty well built. They look like they have all of the edges were trimmed, they're clean. It's really what you would expect for a plastic-appearance part. So to get into a little bit more detail about that installation. Again, it is a very simple one out of three-wrench installation, and especially on the passenger's side it's going to be very, very simple. Now, right off the bat, any time you're installing a part that uses 3M adhesive to stick on to the Jeep, you want to make sure that the surface of the Jeep is very, very clean and you'll do that with any alcohol-based cleaner. Make sure that the surface is clean, and that you're installing these when the weather is moderate. You don't want to install these when it's 30 degrees outside, because the adhesive isn't going to set up properly and there's a chance that these would fall off. You also don't necessarily want to do these when it's 100 degrees outside, because again the adhesive won't react properly. But, nice 70-degree day, apply these on a nice, clean surface, and they're gonna stay put as long as you want them to. However, when you do want to remove these you can easily peel them off, clean the rest of the adhesive off the body of the Jeep, and it's like they were never there. So, getting back to the passenger side, the first step is to pop off the tailgate hinge covers, which just snap into place and they'll snap off very, very simply. You do not need to remove your taillights to get these installed. All you're going to do after you clean the surface is test fit the part, make sure that it's going to fit in place, that there are no other interference issues, remove it, remove all of the 3M backing that's on the inside of this piece, so you're going to want to remove all of these strips here that you can't get to from the outside. And then on the outside pieces, you want to start by removing about a two-inch tab and leaving that tab sticking up. That'll allow you to test fit the part again, make sure that you get it exactly where you want to, be able to remove the adhesive backing while the piece is in place, and then just push it to make sure that it adheres all the way around. If you have a clean surface and you do this on a nice, warm day, this is going to stick and hold up really, really well. Now, on the driver's side there's a little bit of disassembly to do. You are going to have to remove your license plate bracket in order to get this installed. There are a couple of bolts that you'll need to remove in order to get the license-plate bracket off, and a couple of the bottom ones can be a little bit difficult to get to. Sometimes, depending on which bumper you have on your Jeep, you may need to loosen or remove the bumper to get to those bolts, but most of you will be able to get to them with no problem. Once you've had the license-plate bracket removed, you unplug the wiring harness, and then follow the same exact steps you did on the passenger's side, on the driver's side. Again, you don't have to remove your taillight, you don't have to do anything with your gas fill, the only thing that you have to remove is that license plate. Now, once you have this part back installed, you can go ahead and reinstall that license-plate bracket. Make sure you plug your wiring harness back in and this is where you have to do the tiniest little bit of trimming. There are two plastic tabs on the license-plate bracket that you will have to cut off. Just use a sharp razor knife, not a big deal. And then you can bolt your license-plate bracket back up. If you loosened or removed your bumper, reinstall that, and you're finished. This whole installation shouldn't take you more than a half hour, although if you have a big, bulky, heavy rear bumper that has a big, heavy tire carrier on it, it may take you a little bit of time to remove that if you can't get to those license plate mount bolts with the bumper in place. Other than removing the license plate nut, there are no tools you need to get this done, just a good alcohol-based cleaner, and for that license plate mount all you'll need are your traditional hand tools and a good socket set.I mentioned before that I think this is an appropriately-priced piece for something that is mostly a visual or aesthetic mod. Whether you're covering up damage or you're trying to protect against damage, or you just like the look of these, these are pretty light duty. So around $100, a little over $100, I think that these are appropriately priced for the quality of the product that you receive. So whether you're looking to cover up damage, protect against light scratching or you just like the look of these corner guards, these are going to be an easy-to-install, fairly-priced option. And that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Rear Corner Guards fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Buy with caution.
I've been seeing a lot of mixed reviews on this product. I really wanted these to work out, but the fit was terrible. I could not get it to sit flush against the right corner. I'm surprised to see people use these guards with success, so I don't know if some are just manufactured poorly.Helpful (5)

Terrible fit and cheap material
These corner guards are a terrible fit. And because they are made of thin plastic, they will crack on the corner angle if you push them too much for a proper fit. For the price I was hoping for a better alignment. One corner cracked when I was installing and the other was a terrible alignment.Helpful (3)

Was so exited to put these on because of the look they would give my jk, when I did I try out and followed instructions from the YouTube channels video I noticed that it wasn’t the perfect fit. In the cornes on the rear above the tail light there is a huge gap the tape doesn’t even touch the body of the Jeep, there is also a huge defect in the tail gate hinge area. I partially pealed off some of the 3m tape just like the video suggests and in the only area where it did stick, I could not bring it off once I noticed it wasn’t the right fit and the whole passenger rear side corner guard cracked on me, damaging the paint of my jk. I ended up with 6 different pieces of it. Was going to return it but didn’t even try. I lost money and time. Buyers beware.Helpful (4)

Not a Perfect fit.
Not a Perfect fit! Doen't conform to corners of tub. Good size gap at top and bottom of corners. Yes you do Have to remove tail lights to install. Even then does'nt quite conform. Will Crack at radius. But,what the hey! It's a Jeep! Not a mercedes! Over all I'm satisfied with it. Looks good, nobody is going to scrutinize it. Would recomend if you want a little more rugged look for your rig. I used byutle tape to fill gaps and blend in.Helpful (9)

Got the corner guards and the leading hood edge protector. Had to drill the hood protector so the holes for the hood latch matched but it was an easy fix. Also had to trim the passenger side to accommodate the hinges. But I’m happy. Directions would have been nice. I.e. the need to remove the hinge covers as it first appears the covers go over the top of those. Depending on your bumper, you may need to remove the rear bumper to get at two of the license plate holder screws. That was the reason it took me longer than it said for the install.Helpful (8)
