    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit fitting all 2011 to 2016 JK's. There's also a version of this available for the 2007 to 2010 Wranglers and you can get it with or without the phone kit. I like this kit because it allows you to retain the use of your dashboard storage area but adds the function of a phone holder that holds your phone really securely and puts it close to your line of vision. This is a really nice spot for your phone to be if you're using it for navigation while driving. The whole kit is made out of a high-quality plastic and the phone holder itself is mounted on a swivel ball so you can tilt it to fit your needs. The holder is spring-loaded so you can put any size phone in any orientation in there and it'll be sure to hold it nice and tight without falling out. Installing this holder into your Jeep is a really simple process. All you need to do is clip it over the factory trim on the dashboard, install the insert tray and screw on the universal ball mount. From there you can add your phone holder or whatever other accessory holder you decide to use. Installation shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes and you won't need any tools at all. If you've been shopping around for a way to mount your phone where it's visible, you'll know that mounting systems can be really expensive and for something that is vehicle specific, looks factory and holds your phone really securely, I think this one's priced really fairly. So if you're like me and you use your phone as your navigation system in your Jeep and you're looking for a way to mount it that isn't too far out of your line of sight, I think this is a really nice option that looks factory and is fairly priced. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit fitting all 2011 to 2016 JK's that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Dual Mount. Maximize your JK's dash space with the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System. Featuring a dual mount design, this Jeep dash tray includes a tripod mount and universal ball socket style mount that can be used simultaneously while providing at hand access to GPS, cameras, gadgets and more. It comes equipped with a universal phone mount for instant installation.

Finish and Installation. Ideal for stowing small items, this dash tray features a form fit design in a handsome OE styled black finish to blend into your factory interior. It makes use of the factory dash recess and does not require drilling or modification for installation.

Application. The Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System is designed for use in 2011-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and JK Unlimited models.

Does this item fit the 2016 Sahara model? My factory tray has two compartments in it and I do not see that the tray on this kit has the two compartments.

        • The Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System is designed to replace the existing tray in your Wrangler, and will fit all 2011-2018 Wrangler JK's.

Am I able to mount the phone Horizontally. All the pics are verticle.

        • Yes, the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System can be easily turned to mount your phone horizontally or vertically.

Would this mount easily accept a Go Pro Camera? I saw a picture from a customer with a GoPro but not sure if I have to buy an adapter for it. Thank you

        • For your GoPro, you should have a mount with it, that has a small screw on one end, and that screw will go right on the top portion of the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit that has the open thread. You may need to trouble shoot to get the right threading for the mount system. Or if you have a mount for your GoPro that accepts a 17mm ball socket, then it can be used in place of the phone mount.

Would this be good for using your phone to record an off road trip?

        • The Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit can absolutely be used to record your off-road trip from the dash of your Wrangler. Simply mount to the phone kit vertically and you are set to record all the off-road fun!

It works great when the road is perfectly smooth, but any decent sized bump knocks my phone out of the holder. And off road was really bad! This is probably because my case is rounded (Mophie) but i am looking for solutions. Functional and OEM Look

This thing really helps me keep my eyes on the road. It's easy to put your phone into it and take it out. The fit is great. It looks like it could have been a stock OEM part.

Works, but broke due to an engineering flaw...

I like this product as it does exactly what I need. It's easy to mount, easy to use (phone fits in very easily and is held firmly by the spring loaded arm)... but it broke after only 5 days of use. My iPhone is in a otterbox type of case (doubles as my wallet) so it is very thick. The two "arms" that hold the phone are rubber (nice) but only the first 1/4 inch or so is firm (non-pliable) to hold the phone. Right at the point where the rubber goes from non-pliable to pliable, one of the arms broke (ripped into two parts) there after only 5 days of use, throwing my phone across the Jeep onto the floor, and bending/breaking the iPhone charging cable I had plugged into it. I have made a DIY modification (super gluing a quarter to the broken arm to increase its strength across its entire length) and encasing the arm and quarter in a firm rubber sleeve (from an old life guard whistle I had) holding the entire assembly together. This works, but I'd rather have a re-engineered arm assembly that is designed not to break when holding a phone with a thick cover.

            Perfect fit, but low quality.

Perfect for the price and the install was super easy. My only concern is that it feels like it might break within a year from taking my phone off and on.

            Poorly Manufactured

I purchased through my Jeep mechanics in TN within a few attempts of putting my phone on it both the rubber tips actually snapped. I'm pretty handy. Not user error Cannot be used with a cover on phone. Weak grip due to flimsy tips I dislike like complaining. Would prefer good product

Great buy for the money. Was skeptical about creating a blind spot using this device however it is easily overlooked while driving. Strong hold will not loose your phone in a rough ride. I will wire a charger cord similar to others installations I’ve seen.

            great idea - poor execution

Fit well in the dash. Worked well for a week and then the rubber mount on the clamp broke and can no longer hold anything. And unfortunately the ball size is too small to be used with a RAM or other standard phone mounts so i am back to square one.

It works, but not as I hoped

I bought this to hold my iPhone 7 and it does great on flat smooth roads. It’s in a great position, easily accessible, and within reach. HOWEVER, the holder does poorly off road. Once the pavement ends, beware that your phone/gps will fall off. It falls off countless times and I have to go looking for my phone. If I’m lucky, I’ll have my phone attached to charging cable and I’ll just have to pull the cable to get my phone. If you don’t use your jeep off-roading, this should work great...but if you’re going off-roading, you might look somewhere else. I would not buy this again, think I’ll look for another phone holder again.

            Awesome mount.

This mount is amazing. Works very well and holds phone tightly 95 of the time. Only issue is when you hit large bumps or continuous rough roads, then it sometimes falls out. Only negative is if you have an aftermarket stereo you can’t use the screw to secure this.

Weak plastic, delicate, okay for smaller phones

This started off being able to hold my Galaxy S7 in a case, but after a month or two of use the rubber grippers started to splay outward and the grip was very loose. Any light bump would result in my phone popping out and flying around the jeep. After this happened one too many times, I held my phone in place with a rubber band to make do. After another month or so, the ball mount snapped off at its thin plastic neck and the entire mount could no longer be used.

Plastic adjustment but does not hold up to Texas heat. It lasted about a year before breaking. I’m back to the original rubber mat until I can find another phone holder.

            Good for show

Easy install, looks good on dash. The clips are short with extra useless rubber tips making it look like would hold a phone. Any phone with even the slimmest case will fall out with any bumps the jeep takes. Would give 5 stars and product could be great if clips were redesigned.

Bought this for the wife's jeep, last 2 months and the rubber ends of the mount have broken rendering it useless. I do like the base, so if I can find another holder for it, I may be able to salvage this. I will update this review if I find one.
