    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit fitting all 2011 to 2016 JK's. There's also a version of this available for the 2007 to 2010 Wranglers and you can get it with or without the phone kit. I like this kit because it allows you to retain the use of your dashboard storage area but adds the function of a phone holder that holds your phone really securely and puts it close to your line of vision. This is a really nice spot for your phone to be if you're using it for navigation while driving. The whole kit is made out of a high-quality plastic and the phone holder itself is mounted on a swivel ball so you can tilt it to fit your needs. The holder is spring-loaded so you can put any size phone in any orientation in there and it'll be sure to hold it nice and tight without falling out. Installing this holder into your Jeep is a really simple process. All you need to do is clip it over the factory trim on the dashboard, install the insert tray and screw on the universal ball mount. From there you can add your phone holder or whatever other accessory holder you decide to use. Installation shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes and you won't need any tools at all. If you've been shopping around for a way to mount your phone where it's visible, you'll know that mounting systems can be really expensive and for something that is vehicle specific, looks factory and holds your phone really securely, I think this one's priced really fairly. So if you're like me and you use your phone as your navigation system in your Jeep and you're looking for a way to mount it that isn't too far out of your line of sight, I think this is a really nice option that looks factory and is fairly priced. So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit fitting all 2011 to 2016 JK's that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Dual Mount. Maximize your JK's dash space with the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System. Featuring a dual mount design, this Jeep dash tray includes a tripod mount and universal ball socket style mount that can be used simultaneously while providing at hand access to GPS, cameras, gadgets and more. It comes equipped with a universal phone mount for instant installation.

Finish and Installation. Ideal for stowing small items, this dash tray features a form fit design in a handsome OE styled black finish to blend into your factory interior. It makes use of the factory dash recess and does not require drilling or modification for installation.

Application. The Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System is designed for use in 2011-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK and JK Unlimited models.

Does this item fit the 2016 Sahara model? My factory tray has two compartments in it and I do not see that the tray on this kit has the two compartments.

        • The Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System is designed to replace the existing tray in your Wrangler, and will fit all 2011-2018 Wrangler JK's.

Am I able to mount the phone Horizontally. All the pics are verticle.

        • Yes, the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System can be easily turned to mount your phone horizontally or vertically.

Would this mount easily accept a Go Pro Camera? I saw a picture from a customer with a GoPro but not sure if I have to buy an adapter for it. Thank you

        • For your GoPro, you should have a mount with it, that has a small screw on one end, and that screw will go right on the top portion of the Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit that has the open thread. You may need to trouble shoot to get the right threading for the mount system. Or if you have a mount for your GoPro that accepts a 17mm ball socket, then it can be used in place of the phone mount.

Would this be good for using your phone to record an off road trip?

        • The Rugged Ridge Dash Multi-Mount System and Phone Kit can absolutely be used to record your off-road trip from the dash of your Wrangler. Simply mount to the phone kit vertically and you are set to record all the off-road fun!

Was there ever a different model for the phone holder because I bought this from a store that specializes in Jeeps but the box was open and the phone mount doesn’t look like the one in the video. It also won’t fit on the ball mount with the thing that tightens it on it and it will only slightly screw onto it at angles that make the phone point up a lot. I’m trying to figure out if I should buy a new phone mount or just deal with it falling off and sagging all the time. 1 answer

            Fits and works.

It installed fine, once I understood how all parts fit together. But, seems like I'm going to break the holder's connection to base when I pry spring apart to fit in phone. It has not broken, but I am being very careful too.

            Not worth it, easily brakes.

Phone holder broke just after the ExtremeTerrain 30 day warranty. One arm broke with normal use, very disappointing. ExtremeTerrain would not help. This item not not very strong. Look for another product.

            Clips broke.. fast and often

Rubber clips have no plastic support, after about 2.5 months the rubber began to crack and bend and no longer held my phone (iphone 7). Bought replacement holder, had same issue after 2 months. Any recommendations for better options are appreciated.

            First time use

It broke first time use, mounted it, and then put my phone in. The rubber tips broke while stretching open to clamp down. Not a very well designed product. Would not recommend.

Installed on my 2010 JK Islander

Hi; Made this fit my 2010 JK Islander by using a little bit of epoxy glue. I just made the metal clips adjust down a little with my whittlin' skills; then dabbed a little epoxy glue. Sturdy as a rock. Originally this says it is for later model; but then only thing stopping you from putting on an earlier model is, that the male snap in clips are about a 1/16- and1/8th inch short. Thats it. I tried banging mine down to make it snap; but it would just pop back up. So i modded it just a hair and been fine for 5 months now.

            Pretty close to perfect

Easy to install (just a few minutes), perfect as far as positioning. It takes two hands to put the phone on the mount which is my only (mild) criticism. I love that it’s not hanging from my vents and I’m confident it won’t fall down or anything like that which makes it nice to use.

            Not for IPhone 8plus

I like the design and how this is a much more secure and stable mount. Problem is my IPhone 8plus has an battery case and the opening does not allow for the phone to sit securely. One good bump and my phone pops out.

            Decent phone mount

This mount is easy to use vertically or horizontally and has a sturdy hold on my iPhone 7. A couple minor complaints: When installing, I had this about a half-inch off center. I tried to correct by sliding to the right. That scratched the existing plastic since you have to remove the rubber protector. I corrected with a Sharpie, but still noticeable to me. Also, my wife has complained that this blocks her view.

            Easy Install and Handy Addition

Got this to hold a cell phone for hands free and navigation. It installs in a couple of minutes (1 screw to remove and reinstall). The part that holds the phone swivels and holds any angle or position. The grips will hold onto your device over very rough terrain. I'm pleased and would recommend this item.

            Very practical

This is a good tool to have, especially for the older Jeeps that don't have bluetooth or navigation. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The phone is alittle long for the device. So the aux connection to the radio sometimes is clumsy to have plugged in. Can just turn the device sideways to rectify the issue. Also, the phone is slippery with the rubber cushions of the holder. However, the rubber cushions are totally necessary to not scratch the phone. Overall, very good product and am super happy with the purchase.

If you have a larger phone, HARD PASS

This was great for smaller smart phones, but not for any of the larger sizes (iPhone 8 vs XR). Ever since I upgraded to the iPhone XR, the plastic clip grips break after a couple weeks of use - causing my phone to shoot out into my car floor - which is dangerous since it can be distracting and may cause damage to my phone. If this was reinforced with metal wiring, it would be a great product...but, I'm now on my 3rd replacement clip and looking for a replace the whole kit with something more durable.
