How to Install a Rough Country Steering Box Brace on your Jeep Wrangler

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Loosely install the Rough Country steering brace as shown in Photo 1 on the steering box using the supplied u-bolt / nuts & washers. Torque to 10 ft/lbs. It may be necessary to grind the steering box to install the u-bolt. See Photo 2.



2. Install the opposite end on the frame. Using the bracket as a template mark the holes to be drilled and remove steering brace.

3. Drill the frame as shown in Photo 3 using a 3/8” drill bit. Keep drill level when drilling the holes to drill through inside and outside frame rail. After the holes have been drilled, re-drill with a 15/32” bit to clean holes for 7/16” bolts.

4. Reinstall the steering brace on the steering box using a 9/16” wrench and secure the brace to the frame with the supplied 7/16” x 3 1/2” bolts, washers /nuts using a 16mm & 18mm wrench. See Photo 4.



POST INSTALLATION

1. Check all fasteners for proper torque. Check to ensure there is adequate clearance between all rotating, mobile, fixed and heated members. Check steering for interference and proper working order.

2. Re torque all fasteners after 500 miles. Visually inspect components and re torque fasteners during routine vehicle service.
