How to Install Rock Krawler High Clearance Adjustable Rear Lower Control Arms (07-18 Wrangler JK) on your Jeep Wrangler

  • Grease Gun (with 000 grease)

1. Start by unscrewing the joints and putting anti-seize on the threads. This will keep them adjustable years down the road.


2. Using a 7mm socket install the grease fittings on all joints. Be careful not to overtighten them as they can easily strip. Using 000 grade grease, grease all the joints while you’re at it.


3. Before removing either control arm, use a jack to support where the driveshaft connects to the differential as shown. Don’t lift it much, just enough to take the pressure off the lower control arms.


4. Make sure your Jeep is parked on level ground. Use a 2x 21mm sockets remove the passenger side control arm bolts, then remove the control arm.


5. The flag nut removed from the front bolt will need to be cut down. Using a dremmel, cut about 3/8” off the end of the metal tab. This will keep it from rubbing on your new control arm, but still let it function as intended.


6. Next, adjust your new control arm to the desired length. This will depend on your lift height. Rock Krawler recommended starting lengths: Stock Fenders 1.5”-3.5” = 20 1/8”, Flat fenders 1.5” lift- 20 5/8”, 2.5” lift- 20 11/16”, 3.5” lift- 20 3/4”. You can also choose to match the length of you stock arms as a starting point. Adjust both arms to the same length and hand tighten the jam nuts. The measurement is taken from the center of each mounting hole. Install the new control arm using stock hardware. Make sure the bend in the arm is up and that the grease fittings are all pointed up. For now do not tighten the bolts.


7. Repeat steps 4-6 on the driver side.


8. Now you need to determine if your arms are the correct length or if they need to be adjusted. Use an angle finder to compare the angle of your driveshaft to your pinion angle. They should be within 2-3 degrees of each other.


9. When you find the proper length you will need to tighten the jam nuts to 250ft/lbs. I recommend having a friend help you. First, apply Loctite to the threads, then using a large screwdriver or long socket extension, hold both joints strait. Using a 1 ½” crowfoot and torque wrench, tighten the jam nuts.

Note: If your wrench will fit you can also tighten the jam nut with the control arm still on the vehicle.


10. When you reinstall the arms, be sure that the joints are strait as possible as shown below. If not you will need to adjust them. 


11. Last, be sure to tighten all 4 control arm mount bolts. Using 2x 21mm sockets and a torque wrench, tighten them to 125ft/lbs.
