Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the OPR Replacement Mirror, fitting all 1987 to 2002 Wranglers. These mirrors are available for both the passenger's side and the driver's side of your Jeep, and they're available in the traditional and factory styled black finish or a polished chrome finish, if you're interested in changing up the look of it. Today we're gonna talk through the installation of this mirror, which is going to be a very simple one out of three wrench install. We're gonna be able to get this bolted up to your Jeep in far under half an hour, but we'll talk more about the installation in just a second. We're also gonna talk about the construction and a few of the features of this mirror. This is for those of you who have a broken or worn out factory mirror that you're looking to replace. Now, the factory mirrors have an adjustable ball joint just like this one, and eventually they can wear out, so that when you're driving down the road, the wind can actually push the mirror down, which, if you've been in that situation, it can be very, very annoying. Now, this mirror, just like your factory one, does have a couple of screws in the bottom, and if you tighten those up, sometimes you can get a little bit more stiffness out of that joint. However, if you just can't get your mirror to stay in position, or, of course, if you have broken your mirror, then it may be time for a replacement. And this replacement mirror is going to be very, very similar to a factory mirror in design and in look. Now, Jeep did change to a slightly newer design in 2003, so, again, this is gonna be for those of you with a YJ or an earlier TJ up to 2002. Anything after '02 has a more round, a little bit more of a modern mirror, and we have those available as well. But, again, this is going to be a very close replica to an OEM mirror, but without you having to pay the price of going to Mopar for a replacement. This does come with a bit of a gasket that goes between the mirror and your door to keep the mirror from chipping the paint on the door, and it does come with all new hardware as well as an Allen key to install the hardware, so you really have everything you need. Again, the mirrors are sold individually, so pick left or right side, whichever one you're looking to replace, for, of course, you can get both of them individually to completely overhaul all of your exterior mirrors. And these are available in the black finish that looks very much like that factory mirror or a chrome finish if you decide to go with a little bit of a different look. Getting this mirror installed is a very simple one out of three wrench install. You can get this bolted up in under half an hour. All you'll need to do is remove the three screws that are holding your factory mirror onto your door, and then go ahead and bolt up this new mirror with the included hardware and the included tool. Again, less than half an hour, you don't even have to supply your own tools. The tool you need comes in a box. All the hardware comes in the box. Everything's right there for you. This is going to be a very, very easy squab for anyone to do and then drive away. This mirror comes in at right around $40 for the black version and just a few dollars more for the chrome version. There are other replacement mirrors on the market that are significantly more expensive than this one, and honestly, I don't really know why. This looks just like a factory mirror. It looks just like those other replacement mirrors that cost significantly more money. I don't see much of a reason to spend more. If I was replacing the mirror on my TJ, I would go with this one. So whether you have a broken or worn out mirror on your TJ, and you're looking for a replacement that's going to look and act just like the factory one, but doesn't have that factory price tag, I think this is going to be a really nice option to take a look at. So that's my review of the OPR Replacement Mirror, fitting all 1987 to 2002 Wranglers, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Specs. No matter if your mirror is simply worn down or it's broken or otherwise damaged, this factory-style Redrock 4x4 Replacement Mirror is a great choice. It fits your right hand, passenger side, is made from sturdy, durable parts, and is completed with a black finish.

Construction. This rugged design is an exact match for your factory installed mirror. In fact, it mounts at the same mount as your original mirror, which means it simply to install. Pick up this mirror to replace your current one and be impressed by the high quality design and construction.

Application. This passenger's side exterior Redrock 4x4 Replacement Mirror fits 1987 - 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ models with half doors and all 1997-2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ models.

Is there a mirror that will work on a YJ with full doors. That are not the small factory mirrors

  • Hello, unfortunately as of now, the only mirrors for Full Doors would be these: http://www.extremeterrain.com/rugged-ridge-mirror-kit-yj-1100219.html

The product description states that the mirror will fit 87-95 wranglers with half doors. Will the mirror work for a 1987 Wrangler with full doors?

ZachA

  • Hello, unfortunately this mirror will only fit 1987-1995 YJ Models with Half Doors.

What is the size of the provided screw and what is the size of the thread drilled into the door? My YJ has no holes drilled in to mount the mirror, so I have to do it myself.

Does this item come with mounting brackets aswell as mirrors?

Anonymous

  • Thank you for your question! This is a single side replacement, but it includes replacement bracket and hardware for the mirror.

I know this says for 87-02 jeeps, but the bolt pattern appears to be the same as my 05 TJ. I dislike the small, boxy style I currently have and was wondering if anyone knows whether this will fit an 05? I had a 97 TJ and preferred alot of the features that jeep had over my 05. Thanks.

Woodstock2005

  • Thank you for your question! Yes, these should still install on your 2005 TJ as the mounting holes are the same. The mirror style just changed in 2003-2006.

Can the mirror be unbolted from the bracket in order to mount them on a relocation bracket?

4wheelingator

  • The Replacement Mirror - Black - Right Side (87-02 Wrangler YJ & TJ) are a factory style replacement and should allow you to relocate them as the original factory mirrors allow.

Review from OPR Left Side Replacement Mirror - Black (87-02 Wrangler YJ & TJ)

    WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL...

I Love EXTREME TERRAIN OFF-ROAD. The replacement mirror i purchased and installed moved out of place as soon as I drove. I had fold it in a tape it to the windshield frame to stay. The new mounting hardware was to long for the jeep. So, I had to use the original rusty screws.

Review from OPR Left Side Replacement Mirror - Black (87-02 Wrangler YJ & TJ)

    Looks good but......

Installation was a breeze and they definitely look sharp. I am having the same issue as a lot of the other reviewers in that no matter how hard I tighten them, they fold down at speeds over 30 mph. A real pain and not worth the purchase.

    Rust quick!!

Mirrors look great and fit perfect on my 98 Jeep wrangler. Have had these mirrors less than a year and the pain has dulled and mirrors have already got rust spots on them! Not worth the money! Total waste!

Fits well, mirror may come loose

This fit the half door of my 1988 Jeep YJ very well. I would have preferred that the fasteners not been torx-bit, but that is an easy change if you don't like them. After installation, the mirror would angle downward while driving so that I would only see my rear tire. This is also an easy fix, simply GENTLY tighten the screws on the bottom of the mirror housing where at the housing's attach point to the fixture. There are two of them and it takes all of about 5 seconds to do. It helps if you move the mirror to the location you want it to be at before you tighten the screws.

    Better than original!

The mirror itself is better than my original -- showing a wider angle of view! ...just don't forget to tighten the screws at the bottom so it will stay where you put it. I was wondering what that little hex wrench was for until the mirror wouldn't stay up and I saw the screws to tighten.

    Faulty Design

It's a nice mirror with easy and clear instructions but the hinge the mirror sits on does not hold the mirror in place over speeds of 30 miles per hour.

    Won't stay in place

I know these say "trail mirror" but it still has to get to the trail. No amount of tightening will keep these mirrors where I put them they always end up pointing in and down from less than 55mph wind from driving. I'm replacing them with something else. They look like the OEM original mirrors however so if that's all you want...

    Terrible floppers

These mirrors were more floppy than the ones they were supposed to replace. Got them for a 5 day road trip and didn't get 1 1/2 miles down the road and all I could see was the pavement beside the car. Wouldn't give any stars if that were an option. Paid $10 extra to get them faster and got no refund for that.

    Worked great

Quick installation and looks like it should. Really no complaints, mine was missing when I got the jeep and I'm sure this will hold up just fine. Make sure to tighten the Allen screw or it'll blow all over the place on the highway.

    Fit great but awful mirrors

They are definitely perfectly bolt on but they are terrible at staying secure, I understand mirrors move off road but these move so much just pulling out of the driveway. If you want to do any backing you have to lift the mirror by hand which is very interesting while trying to shift and steer

    Gentle my butt!

I tighten the screw under the mirror ever 2 weeks yet I'm always looking at the road. It's not that the screw is not tight, these light plastic mirrors just fold in the wind. DO NOT BUY THESE, like me you will just BUY a different set because these only have a 30 day warranty by the time you realize they are not going to work it's too late.

OPR Mirrors a Waste Of Money

I thought these mirrors might be an improvement on the originals. They do not stay in place on the highway just like the originals. You can't tighten them enough to keep them adjusted at 70 mph. Don't waste money on these. get the mirrors for the 2003-2006 TJ. They changed them for a reason.
