Review & Install Video

Hey, guys. I'm Ryan with Extreme Terrain and this is my review of the Raxiom LED Headlights for the old 2007 to 2016 JKs. Now those of you who have driven your JK at night know that the factory headlights leave a lot to be desired. So if you're looking for something with a better beam pattern and a lot more brightness, I think the Raxiom Headlights are perfect for you. They offer a high quality, DOT-approved light, which is a really easy install. There's actually no wiring required. They're completely plug and play. And the best thing about these is they won't completely break the bank. Even though lighting is a safety feature and you want to increase the lighting output, you can't empty your wallet on one item. Now there are a lot of options out there when you're looking to upgrade the headlights on your Jeep. You can put better halogen bulbs in the factory housing, which is going to give you a little more light output and be very cheap and easy to install. On the other end of the spectrum, you have HID lights, which are very, very bright, but also expensive and more difficult to install. But LED is the latest and greatest and there's a good reason for that. These headlights provide a huge amount of light in a compact package all at a low amperage draw. The Raxiom LED Headlights are a sealed beam headlight in die-cast housing. They actually have four separate projectors and everything is covered with a polycarbonate lens that provides scratch resistance as well as breakage resistance. The entire light is sealed with epoxy to prevent corrosion and condensation down the line. Raxiom uses Cree LEDs. Some of you might have heard of Cree. They have a great reputation for making a really high quality light, so you know it's going to last for a long time. These lights actually have a full lifetime warranty. The four LEDs in the Raxiom LED Headlights put out a total of 2,700 to 4,800 illumines depending on if you're using the high beam or the low beam. The color temperature of the light is 6,000 K which gives you really crisp white light, almost bordering on blue. And Raxiom offers an LED fog light which matches color temperature so everything works really well together. The only drawback to these lights is that the high beam is only marginally brighter than the low beam. There's no wiring, no cutting, no splicing. Just plug them in and they work. Raxiom even included a CAN bus module to make sure that the lights won't flicker when installed, even on a newer JK. These fit-like factory in the factory headlight buckets and the black housings look great no matter what color your Jeep is. All you need to do to get them bolted in is pull off the grill with the six clips along the top and remove the four screws that are around each headlight. Just unplug the old ones, plug the new ones in, and you're good to go. All you'll need for the install is a screwdriver and a torque spin. The whole thing will take you less than an hour. I know there are a lot of lights to consider when upgrading the headlights on your JK. And all of them have different pros and cons from quality to price. But I have nothing bad to say about these Raxiom Headlights. They work great and they do it all at a lower price than comparable lights on the market. The plug in and play installation with the CAN bus module makes them a breeze to install and really a one-stop shop. And what's most important is the light output. These are a vast improvement over factory and that's really what this is all about. So that's my review of the Raxiom LED Headlights for the old 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

I have a 3 inch lift on my Jeep and already installed the lights. Can you help me with how to tilt them down? I am obviously blinding way too many people and they think I have my brights on. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you, Brandon

BrandonB

  • Hello, you should first start with having your headlights on, on a wall where you can see the position of them easily. After you take the grille off you should be able to see a small adjustment screw on the outer rim of the headlight. You can take a torx bit and turn it counter clockwise to aim them down, and clockwise to aim them up.

Do the Raxiom LED headlights require an anti-flicker harness (I have a 2016 Wrangler Unlimited) ?

Grumpy

  • They have an anti-flicker device built in to the wiring harness. So no, it already comes with it.

How to solve high beam flicker? Low beam is fine but when I turn on high beams it has a noticeable flicker but only when the engine is running.

Portjeep

  • Sometimes you will suffer from flickering when converting to LEDs, while rare, the Raxiom LED Headlights (07-17 Wrangler JK) is not completely exempt from this. In regards to this issue, we are able to offer the LIFETIME LED ANTI-FLICKER HARNESS (07-17 WRANGLER JK); Item #J101075, which can be found here: http://www.extremeterrain.com/lifetime-anti-flicker-harness-jk-h13rh.html.

I'm not sure if anyone has had this problem like me at night, but almost every car flicks their headlights at me because they think my high beams are on.

Josh

Is there any difference in lifespan between the full LED headlight assembly and just the LED conversion bulbs? Also, once the bulbs burn out in the headlight, do you have to buy a whole new assembly or can you just buy new led bulbs?

    Garbage Quality

Stay away from these lights. I have gone through two sets in 6 months. The high beams go out every few months and when they do work they flicker constantly. Definitely not worth the headache to keep getting replacements.

The Best Headlights for the Price Point

Before I bought these I did a lot of research on different headlight setups. It came down to can-bus issues, price, bang for your buck. Before I installed these I was running OPT7 LED bulbs on my factory housings which helped a bit but blinded other drivers. These headlights are extremely easy to install. They are plug and play. The directions are clear if you need them. The wires on the harnesses are not completely covered so I used electrical tape to create a extra barrier. The connection points I also taped together. This way there is less of a worry when going through deep mud or water. You will need to reuse your existing metal bracket from the stock headlights. Lets talk about brightness and light distribution. They are top notch. These are very bright, there is no flickering and instant on. The light distribution is smooth and has a nice wide angle to cover the entire road. The high beams are bright but are set up more like spot lights than wider angle. They are set up for long range out door use not as effective in the short city streets. So depending on your use that is one thing to keep in mind. To be honest in the city you shouldn't need to use your brights with these and when your out on county roads they will help out a lot. All in all, I highly suggest these to anyone and have suggested them to my friends with JKs.

Awesome and easy alternative to stock headlights.

I have absolutely zero skills/experience with installing any type of electronics on any vehicles. This was my first and everything is literally plug and play. Just take the grille off and the old headlights, plug the adapters in and the new headlights, and then secure the headlights with the bezels and put the grille back on. Took about an hour and all I used was a Allen key. I would however recommend using electrical tape to keep all of the wires and harnesses together for extra protection. Extremeterrain.com is awesome and everything came packaged right and the lights worked. I would recommend these to any one looking for new headlights for their jeep.

    Raxiom LED Headlights

Really simply to install, and really happy with the performance of these LED Headlights. Light output and color make it so much easier to see at night. Added the matching LED Fogs as well to complete the front end. So please with the Raxiom product line, and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to add a nice quality made product to their JK/JKU. Make sure you watch the install videos online, and read the instructions, but totally pug and play. Fit is like a real factory match as well.

    Raxiom LED headlights

Don't get me wrong these are great headlights they're just really difficult to install first of all the natural bezels on the backside of the headlight that fit into the groove socket on the Jeep itself had to be ground down smaller so they could fit so make sure you have a Dremel with a tool that will grind on aluminum to make these fit then once they do fit and they lock into place once you put the beauty ring down there is a little bit of play so you will want to put some kind of foam on the inside lip of the beauty ring two take up the slack for that looseness I'm a leather worker so I used leather lace to go around the inside bezel and I glued it into place you cannot even see it and it holds the light in there without rattling around second of all is the electrical connections the three prong connection that they Supply when you plug it in it pushes the metal connectors out the back side of the plug so if I were you I would mark them pull them out of the plastic adapter and plug them in individual and use electrical tape around all three posts that way you're sure to get a really good connection and the third is the flickering at first my high beams didn't want to work and when they did only one of them worked and after messing around with a plug-ins for a while and getting a really good connection now I have high beams but they do flicker a bit the low beams do not flicker but the high beams do so these are things to be aware of other than that it's a really good buy for the money and most definitely lights up the road ahead of you way more than the stock headlights.

    Great lights

So much better than the factory headlights. Pretty easy on the install. My only complaint is the left headlight didn't match up exactly with the slots when putting in the light after wrapping up the wiring. Probably added 15 minutes to the project but all's well that ends well. Probably an hour total on install.

    Unbelievable Difference Over Stock

I ordered these to install before the winter storms as an improvement over the garbage stock lighting on my XJ. Pulling the stock lights out takes about 10-15 minutes and the install of these ran about the same time. Less than a half hour total for the change. I couldn't believe the difference in lighting and sight distance. The light is a bright white bordering on a shade of blue as advertised and commented in reviews. However, in some of the reviews there are comments about the high beams not being much brighter; this I have found, at least for me, to be not true at all. The high beams put out a significant positive change in visual distance. I also have to add that aesthetically these lights look really modern and nice over the original lights. I am really pleased with this purchase and would recommend them to anyone who wanted a nice upgrade in lighting. For the money, they are just that much better.

    Very nie lights

When I purchased my Jeep 6 weeks ago I wanted led headlights. I was dismayed to find this would cost $1000.00 as an option. I found these lights in your catalog for $399.00. I live on a dirt road in Vermont with no street lights. They light up the night.

100 better than the factory headlights. Easy installation. Minor adjustments are necessary. I definitely recommend the headlights. I would of gave them 5 stars but the high beams were not impressive. Very little difference when you turn on your high beams. Overall major improvement over stock headlights.

    One tiny problem

The headlights themselves look amazing, but the one complaint is that they didn't fit into the original sockets being that the end plug on the Raxiom LEDs were slightly shorter than the stock therefore wouldn't lock into place. I just put them in and wrapped electrical tape around it. I am running with a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara.

    Excellent quality and price

Installed these about a week ago, and love them. I had led bulbs in the stock housing but the light was scattered and not able to be aimed. After these were installed the light pattern is great with no blinking. Night and day difference from stock, and with half the price of jw speakers.

    Overall happy with the purchase

Pretty great overall. Fitment was a bit off as the notches on the back of the light did not quite line up with the housing ring notches. I shaved a bit with an exacto knife. That was the longest part of the whole install. The rest was easy peasy lemon squeezy. They look good. What others say about the high beams is accurate - not much difference but not really needed.
