      Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan from and this is my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This exhaust will fit on both your two-door and your four-door JK, however on a two-door you will have to do a little bit more trimming. Most catback exhaust systems are designed to provide you with a lower and louder exhaust note, especially one like this that removes your factory resonator and muffler in place of this much smaller muffler. Now the sound and the volume that you get out of your engine is very much going to be dependent on what year your Jeep is, and whether you have the 3.8-liter or the 3.6-liter motor. A system like this is specifically designed to be high clearance, so it gets rid of all that factory piping and muffler and tucks everything up out of the way of trail obstacles. Now this system is a little bit less expensive than some other high clearance systems on the market, and when you take a look at it, it is very utilitarian. You can see a lot of the marks on the piping from the benders. There's no fancy polished tip or anything like that, but it definitely gets the job done and it does it at a lower price than a lot of the other systems out there. This system is built out of two and a half inch diameter 304 stainless, which means the material is going to be fairly resistant to rust and corrosion, but you can expect to see a little bit of surface rust. It's not the highest quality material out there, but it's also not going to be low quality and completely rust out on you. But this is one way that Pypes is able to keep the cost of this system down a little bit. This system includes all of the hangers and clamps that you need to get it installed in the Jeep. And like I said before, you will have to do a little bit of trimming of the mid pipe, whether you're installing it on a two-door or a four-door JK. However, those of you with the two-door JK will have to do a little bit more cutting. Those of you who have done a lot of exhaust work in the past know that things can get rusty, and removing your factory system can be the most difficult part of an installation. So I would definitely recommend soaking all of the bolts, clamps, and hangers well in advance of getting started with a good penetrating oil to give you the best chance of everything coming apart.Pypes gives you very clear instructions on how to get this system installed on the Jeep, and I would recommend following those instructions carefully because it's gonna to give you the best chance of everything lining up and fitting the first time. Once you have that factory system unbolted and out of the way, you'll actually start by hanging the tailpipe. Then, install the muffler, and then take a measurement or probably three or four of them to make sure that you cut the mid pipe to the exact length that you need it. Once the pipe is cut down, you can install it in the system using all of the included clamps, and all of those factory hangers will hold everything into place. The system does include one additional hanger to help hold up some of the additional weight of your new system. The whole installation could take you as little as an hour if your factory exhaust system is rust-free, or a little bit longer if you have to fight with it a bit. You won't need any specialty tools to get this installed, but having a pry bar handy to get rid of some of those rubber hangers is definitely useful. Now, I said before that this system is sort of no frills. As I mentioned, you can see some of the bend marks on the pipe, it doesn't come with a fancy polished tip, and it is 304 stainless instead of a 409 or a different grade. But all of those things keep the price of this system down a little bit, and in my opinion, this is a really fair price for what you get. It tucks everything up out of the way and gives your exhaust a really nice tone all for a really fair price. So, whether you're just looking to change up the tone of your exhaust and get some more volume out of it, or you're somebody who goes off road and either already smashed your muffler or exhaust tip, or you think you might, this is a really nice system that's not only gonna give you the sound and volume that you're after, but also tuck everything up out of the way. And the best part about it is it does it all at a really reasonable cost.So that's my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find it right here at

5 2014 Wrangler - ArdenR Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Very satisfied

Soak those bolts with penetrating fluids days before you remove it, helps quite a bit. Just like everyone els the install is very easy and straight forward, hardest part is removing the old exhaust and trimming the pipe if you have a 2 door (I own a 2 door and had to cut a substantial amount, about 19 inches). Most of the online videos and even XT’s sound clip cant do this exhaust justice, you have to hear it in person to really get a sense of the exhausts tone. I really love how this exhaust sounds, very aggressive when accelerating but not obnoxious when idling. This is a loud exhaust and the in cabin noise is more...pronounced, just a little bit of music and wont really notice (i think its louder on a 2 door just because its a much shorter system compared to a 4 door, idk if it mellows out a bit more with a 4 door). I would recommend this exhaust if your looking for a cheap and good quality bargain. Very happy and would buy again if i had a second jeep.

        Angry Throaty Grr

Only issue I bumped into is that the pipe likes to jump off the last 2 hangers... welded washers fixed this issue. The Sound is angry and throaty video doesn't give this exhaust Justus. I love driving through underpasses, tunnels and in towns the reverb makes me smile.

4 2011 Wrangler - BGDAN Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

Nice exhaust system for the price!

So, I installed this exhaust system in about one hour. Yes, it can be difficult to remove the old exhaust, but use a little heat and this expansion of the metal will help tremendously! I did not tell my wile I replaced the exhaust system and the first time we took it out, she said, did you do something to your Jeep? I said, I did! I was needing to replace the exhaust due to a leak at the muffler and so I decided to replace the whole system. Plus I was trying to get better fuel mileage. She said, why do men like loud exhaust? I said, sweetie, it was for better fuel mileage... She did not buy it! LOL. I will say it's a little louder off idle than I thought it might be, but at cruising speeds, it is not noticeable.

        Cheap and complete

Easy install on 2008 JKU, quality parts at a great price. initially a bit loud, but it is mellowing out as time goes by. I may consider adding a resonator at a future date depending...

5 2017 Rubicon - TexasBeerMan Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

This was an amazing exhaust my only complaint is I broke the muffler in half while off roading. It wasn't the part's fault at all it was the horrible stock brackets because they didn't hold up because of how straight it is. If you buy this buy replacement brackets they ain't that much. I will be buying this exact product again, this time with aftermarket brackets

        Cat back review

Install was smooth instructions were perfect. Took about 1.5 hours. Product as expected. Exhaust was Very loud at first, including some droning almost too loud for me. After 700 miles or so the notes has mellowed out enough that I really like. Happy so far.

        5 2013 Wrangler - Kg1018 Installation Time: Afternoon

        Great for the price

It is definitely louder than the stock system. My JKU did not require any cutting of the pipes. The install was pretty easy with everything sliding together rather easy. Getting the old system out was the major hassle. After fighting it for a little bit I got the sawzall and that made it go much faster. As for mileage I don't know yet. I enjoy the sound so my foot has gotten heavier for the time being and I install a cold air intake at the same time.

        would buy again

easy to install and sounds great. Very aggressive idle with nice pops during shifting. Im 24 and a fan of louder exhausts and I would say its on the loud end of the spectrum. If youre looking for something mild or even subdued, THIS ISNT IT. I have zero regrets and when this one wears out or gets to banged up on the rocks ill happily bu another.
