    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This exhaust will fit on both your two-door and your four-door JK, however on a two-door you will have to do a little bit more trimming. Most catback exhaust systems are designed to provide you with a lower and louder exhaust note, especially one like this that removes your factory resonator and muffler in place of this much smaller muffler. Now the sound and the volume that you get out of your engine is very much going to be dependent on what year your Jeep is, and whether you have the 3.8-liter or the 3.6-liter motor. A system like this is specifically designed to be high clearance, so it gets rid of all that factory piping and muffler and tucks everything up out of the way of trail obstacles. Now this system is a little bit less expensive than some other high clearance systems on the market, and when you take a look at it, it is very utilitarian. You can see a lot of the marks on the piping from the benders. There's no fancy polished tip or anything like that, but it definitely gets the job done and it does it at a lower price than a lot of the other systems out there. This system is built out of two and a half inch diameter 304 stainless, which means the material is going to be fairly resistant to rust and corrosion, but you can expect to see a little bit of surface rust. It's not the highest quality material out there, but it's also not going to be low quality and completely rust out on you. But this is one way that Pypes is able to keep the cost of this system down a little bit. This system includes all of the hangers and clamps that you need to get it installed in the Jeep. And like I said before, you will have to do a little bit of trimming of the mid pipe, whether you're installing it on a two-door or a four-door JK. However, those of you with the two-door JK will have to do a little bit more cutting. Those of you who have done a lot of exhaust work in the past know that things can get rusty, and removing your factory system can be the most difficult part of an installation. So I would definitely recommend soaking all of the bolts, clamps, and hangers well in advance of getting started with a good penetrating oil to give you the best chance of everything coming apart. Pypes gives you very clear instructions on how to get this system installed on the Jeep, and I would recommend following those instructions carefully because it's gonna to give you the best chance of everything lining up and fitting the first time. Once you have that factory system unbolted and out of the way, you'll actually start by hanging the tailpipe. Then, install the muffler, and then take a measurement or probably three or four of them to make sure that you cut the mid pipe to the exact length that you need it. Once the pipe is cut down, you can install it in the system using all of the included clamps, and all of those factory hangers will hold everything into place. The system does include one additional hanger to help hold up some of the additional weight of your new system. The whole installation could take you as little as an hour if your factory exhaust system is rust-free, or a little bit longer if you have to fight with it a bit. You won't need any specialty tools to get this installed, but having a pry bar handy to get rid of some of those rubber hangers is definitely useful. Now, I said before that this system is sort of no frills. As I mentioned, you can see some of the bend marks on the pipe, it doesn't come with a fancy polished tip, and it is 304 stainless instead of a 409 or a different grade. But all of those things keep the price of this system down a little bit, and in my opinion, this is a really fair price for what you get. It tucks everything up out of the way and gives your exhaust a really nice tone all for a really fair price. So, whether you're just looking to change up the tone of your exhaust and get some more volume out of it, or you're somebody who goes off road and either already smashed your muffler or exhaust tip, or you think you might, this is a really nice system that's not only gonna give you the sound and volume that you're after, but also tuck everything up out of the way. And the best part about it is it does it all at a really reasonable cost. So that's my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find it right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Hello, can this exhaust be installed on a jeep with a 2inch lift kit? (Mammoth 2inch front/ 1inch rear leveling kit), or any other lift kits?

    NickK

Yes do you guys make a cat delete pipe also?

    Harryh

2 things - can pipes be painted with high temp stove paint?, and will the jeep need to be up on a lift for installation?

    PaulH

    • Thank you for your question! The Pypes High Clearance Cat-Back Exhaust can be painted with the proper preparation and paint, and I would recommend contacting a professional for painting. Also, you will not need a lift for this exhaust and can use jack stands, but a lift makes it faster/easier.

      Good buy

Like others have already said, stock exhaust was hardest to get off, but with a little pb blast it was a breeze. Installed Pypes exhaust in 15 mins. Very loud and a bit ricey at first, but after about 150 miles on the highway heading home from install it mellowed out and now sounds great. I get more compliments and questions on this exhaust than most other mods on my rig. Good product at a good price. Would recommend if you’d like to make a statement.

      Easy install

Very easy install after removing factory. Did not have to do any cutting to fit ‘17 JKU. I found it easier to install from front to rear in order to install without cutting. It was easier to manipulate the rubber hangers in the rear this way.

      TOO LOUD

Remove the muffler and you will get the same sound. At 2500RPM you have difficulty to hear the radio and w/o top it is horrible when you are accelering

      Easy easy easy

2017 2dr JK Willy’s Edition Like other reviews mentioned the hardest part of this install is the removal of the old muffler and pipe. My Jeep is exactly one year from off the showroom floor and I am so thankful that I decided to do this upgrade sooner than later. Probably took about 2.5 hrs to take off the old and 30min tops to install the new. Most of that time was spent making the one single cut to fit the length. Otherwise the fit was perfect. The sound is louder than stock but not too loud. Have been able to have a normal conversation with no issues. Exhaust note is awesome, and even get a little Harley Davidson rumble from time to time while downshifting. Do yourself a favor and save some money compared to the other brands. Be sure to watch a few YouTube videos on techniques to remove the old exhaust. The included instructions are all you need for the install.

      Easy Install

This exhaust is easy to install. I have a JKU which didn’t require any trimming of the pipes. The sound is a bit louder than the video depicts. It works great though and while cruising the sound is a slight rumble that’s barely noticeable. The exhaust took about an hour to install in my garage. The longest part of the project was removing the hangers from the stock exhaust. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to get an HGC exhaust for a reasonable price.

      Rumbling JK

Great bang for your buck! Watched the product review and was happy that it took much a shorter time. Took me 30 minute total. Hardest part was getting the tail pipe to be centered and true. (I’m a little OCD) the front hanger wasn’t needed on my JKU. It kept hitting against the frame. But I do have to say that it is much louder and throatier than I expected. The video made it seem less burly. Not a complaint just an observation

      Break Out Your EARPLUGS !!!

PROS - Gets rid of the bulky low hanging stock muffler and keeps everything up and tight to the body. CONS - WAYYYY TOO LOUD! This thing is like one notch down from running with no muffler at all. At 3000 RPM and above it's DEAFENING inside the cabin and makes conversation without yelling impossible. It also makes loud popping sounds during deceleration. This was a great idea to provide additional clearance for the JK/U but the almost non-existent muffler design was poorly executed. Unless you want to drive around with earplugs or you're already DEAF, you're NOT going to like this system. With the JKU especially where more room is available, this kit SHOULD have come with a longer, better designed muffler or at least it should have come with a resonator to manage the excessive volume it produces. Would NOT recommend this Pypes system to ANYONE with a Jeep.

Best Exhaust for a Decent Price

Initial Review: I couldn't have asked for a better exhaust! Super simple install took around 45 mins (most of the time took trying to take off the old exhaust from the hangers). Videos really don't do it justice, this exhaust sounds amazing. It gives a nice deep aggressive tone but not so aggressive to be annoying. Will review this product after it gets some miles on/off road. But from the day I put it on (12 Apr 2018) to now, I am extremely happy with my purchase

Exaust was easy to install and just need a small cut to fit my 2014 Jeep jku. Do follow directions exactly so you don't have to remove end exaust and reinstall. Sounds very good at high RPM! For the price and quality can't beat this deal!

      Great Value

So I ripped the stock muffler off on hard packed snowbank here in Maine while pulling a friend (Chevy) out of a ditch. Really just looked for a new exhaust on a budget, but then I found this. This is budget friendly, made of stainless, and is high clearance. Win/Win. This was a great upgrade that should hopefully prevent the same type of damage when off-road, or side-of-road in my case. I was very impressed with the build quality when received. A little loud, but I like it. Just did an 800 mile road trip and it did not bother anyone in the Jeep while on the highway.

      Couldnt be happier

Ive had several other Jeepers compliment my exhaust. Particularly on my recent trip to the offroad park. I didnt drag any part of my exhaust system on even the obstacles where I ended up dragging bumper over. Great value and quality! It seemed a little too loud at first, but even the drone on the highway is hardly noticeable now. Ive been running this exhaust for 16k miles now and still loving it. They need to include torque specs. I had to go back and re-torque a couple of times as the last bend around the spring will droop and cause rattle. Also, if you have the tow package you need to be mindful of the routing of the trailer wires. I had to re-route mine as they started to melt. As a matter of fact, Im going to be replacing the wire loom with a high-temp type to be safe.

Its hard to tell how a new exhaust will sound just by looking at videos. But man this is even better in person. The u clamps were a pain to remove even though it's a 2017. Had to soak them in wd40 for an hour then they finally loosened up. Great sound!!! You won't be disappointed!
