    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This exhaust will fit on both your two-door and your four-door JK, however on a two-door you will have to do a little bit more trimming. Most catback exhaust systems are designed to provide you with a lower and louder exhaust note, especially one like this that removes your factory resonator and muffler in place of this much smaller muffler. Now the sound and the volume that you get out of your engine is very much going to be dependent on what year your Jeep is, and whether you have the 3.8-liter or the 3.6-liter motor. A system like this is specifically designed to be high clearance, so it gets rid of all that factory piping and muffler and tucks everything up out of the way of trail obstacles. Now this system is a little bit less expensive than some other high clearance systems on the market, and when you take a look at it, it is very utilitarian. You can see a lot of the marks on the piping from the benders. There's no fancy polished tip or anything like that, but it definitely gets the job done and it does it at a lower price than a lot of the other systems out there. This system is built out of two and a half inch diameter 304 stainless, which means the material is going to be fairly resistant to rust and corrosion, but you can expect to see a little bit of surface rust. It's not the highest quality material out there, but it's also not going to be low quality and completely rust out on you. But this is one way that Pypes is able to keep the cost of this system down a little bit. This system includes all of the hangers and clamps that you need to get it installed in the Jeep. And like I said before, you will have to do a little bit of trimming of the mid pipe, whether you're installing it on a two-door or a four-door JK. However, those of you with the two-door JK will have to do a little bit more cutting. Those of you who have done a lot of exhaust work in the past know that things can get rusty, and removing your factory system can be the most difficult part of an installation. So I would definitely recommend soaking all of the bolts, clamps, and hangers well in advance of getting started with a good penetrating oil to give you the best chance of everything coming apart. Pypes gives you very clear instructions on how to get this system installed on the Jeep, and I would recommend following those instructions carefully because it's gonna to give you the best chance of everything lining up and fitting the first time. Once you have that factory system unbolted and out of the way, you'll actually start by hanging the tailpipe. Then, install the muffler, and then take a measurement or probably three or four of them to make sure that you cut the mid pipe to the exact length that you need it. Once the pipe is cut down, you can install it in the system using all of the included clamps, and all of those factory hangers will hold everything into place. The system does include one additional hanger to help hold up some of the additional weight of your new system. The whole installation could take you as little as an hour if your factory exhaust system is rust-free, or a little bit longer if you have to fight with it a bit. You won't need any specialty tools to get this installed, but having a pry bar handy to get rid of some of those rubber hangers is definitely useful. Now, I said before that this system is sort of no frills. As I mentioned, you can see some of the bend marks on the pipe, it doesn't come with a fancy polished tip, and it is 304 stainless instead of a 409 or a different grade. But all of those things keep the price of this system down a little bit, and in my opinion, this is a really fair price for what you get. It tucks everything up out of the way and gives your exhaust a really nice tone all for a really fair price. So, whether you're just looking to change up the tone of your exhaust and get some more volume out of it, or you're somebody who goes off road and either already smashed your muffler or exhaust tip, or you think you might, this is a really nice system that's not only gonna give you the sound and volume that you're after, but also tuck everything up out of the way. And the best part about it is it does it all at a really reasonable cost. So that's my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find it right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

            Good but loud

Product is excellent in quality and fit. Be aware the exhaust note is louder than you would think. At least for me it was. I will be replacing this with something closer to stock. The 2 hour highway drive to the off-road site with this exhaust exhausted me. Otherwise easy to install. Don’t try to unbolt your old exhaust, just cut off brackets with cutting tool. If you want loud this is for you.

            Good materials, not best sound

Product was delivered quickly, easy to install, the 14” glass pak was a little loud and sound not that great, went to auto parts and got a thrush 24” glass pak, easy change. Sound is way better, more toned and not as hollow. $25 for the thrush and the pypes steel was great quality, getting one for a friend and will go straight to the 24” glass pak

            Great for the price.

Bought this for a better sound it's SS and is tucked up higher. Definitely has a throatier sound. Getting the old exhaust off took longer than installing the new one. A sawzall made it much easier.

Install was easy on my 4dr. Did not have to cut anything. Instruction were well written. Like everyone says the hardest part was getting the old exhaust off. Sound and performance are awesome. I do have a cold air intake also.

The uninstall of the old exhaust was a pain. The new one installed easy once the old one was out. With that being said I don't really think you can capture these sounds on camera/mic the greatest. While it doesn't really sound like the video it is still very noticable

            new cat back

this system is easy to install and took abought 1.5 hrs I did it in my drive way and with the 3.5 inch lift and 35" tires I did not need to lift the jeep. the sound at first was a little crisp and after a wile it softened up. it is up close and out of the way and I like that I got rid of the fat muffler in the back .

            Throaty Sound

The shipment came in early, the box was pretty well damaged. Opened the box all parts accounted for and undamaged. Removal of the old exhaust system on my JKU was a royal pain, I ended up taking it to shop putting it on a lift, using a cut off wheel. Not sure if it is standard for the factory to put the nut on top of the clamps so a normal person cannot get a wrench on it but wow, and that is the reason for the cut off wheel. Installing the new exhaust was a breeze. Everything lined up perfectly with absolutely no issues. Well thought out and designed exhaust. I had to replace the muffler and looking at the prices for a decent muffler with a good sound $300-500 and you get a complete cat back system for less than $300. And the best part is the sound, all I can say is WOW. Nice and throaty do yourself a favor go to the Pypes web site and listen.

            Nice Exhaust For The Price

Exhaust is loud, seen some reviews of this exhaust say that you cant hear this inside jeep that's simply not true, that being said the sound is awesome though, it sounds more aggressive from the inside and out even when at idle it sounds great, the install was not bad I had to cut off old exhaust it was so rusted on but once it came off the pypes when on in 45 mins. I do feel like a slight performance increase but could be in my head, overall I'm happy with this system and was just what I expected

            More than I expected....

Instructions state: Please try to install it our way first.. Some might take that as an insult, I thought it was funny. Really simple system with head pipe, flow thru muffler, tail pipe, and hardware. Install time just a little over an hour, with a little preparation. There is nothing fancy about finish on the stainless pipe, but it it tucks up so high in Jeep, you can't see it unless you crawl under it, as it should be. By far the best value for high clearance cat back system. There is no drone associated with can mufflers, just a beautiful exhaust note. You actually get a little increase power, and increase in MPG, if you can keep your foot out of it, which it much harder to do, once you hear this thing purr .... Start spraying your old tail pipe connections about week before you start. If you have a JKU remove your transfer box skid plate, to remove you old system in tack. If your doing it by your self, a few bungee cords to help hold things were you want them until you get things tight. Enjoy !!!!!!!

            Hopefully it will calm down.

Tail pipe was bent but not a big deal. The sound is horrible. It sounds like a honda. I hope the exhaust note calms down but if not I will be chucking it in the trash and find something else. The positive is no more dirty diaper look from the old muffler and I wont be hiiting it or the tail pipe any more.

The overall product was well thought out and designed. The install is painless and no trimming was required on my JKU. Good

This is louder than I was expecting. It's on the border of being obnoxious but tolerable. The install was fairly easy. I put this on a 2 door Rubicon. When I cut the straight pipe I left it a little long and had to make a second cut. It's better to have to trim a little more off than to cut it too short the first time. You can always cut more off, you can't put it back if you cut it too short. I chose this exhaust because the tailpipe extends all the way back and didn't dump under the Jeep before the axle. I do get better gas milage with this than I did with my axle back aftermarket exhaust I had before this. On the trip I take fairly regularly - all highway miles going about 80 mph - I'd pull into the gas station just as the fuel light would come on. Today I made it with about a 1/4 tank left and approximately 60 miles to empty. According to the computer. Same route and speed as usual. Getting the replaced exhaust stuff off was more difficult than installing this. I found it worked well if you shove a small flat head screw driver in the stock rubber hangers and pry (with lubricant) the old exhaust off.
