    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This exhaust will fit on both your two-door and your four-door JK, however on a two-door you will have to do a little bit more trimming. Most catback exhaust systems are designed to provide you with a lower and louder exhaust note, especially one like this that removes your factory resonator and muffler in place of this much smaller muffler. Now the sound and the volume that you get out of your engine is very much going to be dependent on what year your Jeep is, and whether you have the 3.8-liter or the 3.6-liter motor. A system like this is specifically designed to be high clearance, so it gets rid of all that factory piping and muffler and tucks everything up out of the way of trail obstacles. Now this system is a little bit less expensive than some other high clearance systems on the market, and when you take a look at it, it is very utilitarian. You can see a lot of the marks on the piping from the benders. There's no fancy polished tip or anything like that, but it definitely gets the job done and it does it at a lower price than a lot of the other systems out there. This system is built out of two and a half inch diameter 304 stainless, which means the material is going to be fairly resistant to rust and corrosion, but you can expect to see a little bit of surface rust. It's not the highest quality material out there, but it's also not going to be low quality and completely rust out on you. But this is one way that Pypes is able to keep the cost of this system down a little bit. This system includes all of the hangers and clamps that you need to get it installed in the Jeep. And like I said before, you will have to do a little bit of trimming of the mid pipe, whether you're installing it on a two-door or a four-door JK. However, those of you with the two-door JK will have to do a little bit more cutting. Those of you who have done a lot of exhaust work in the past know that things can get rusty, and removing your factory system can be the most difficult part of an installation. So I would definitely recommend soaking all of the bolts, clamps, and hangers well in advance of getting started with a good penetrating oil to give you the best chance of everything coming apart. Pypes gives you very clear instructions on how to get this system installed on the Jeep, and I would recommend following those instructions carefully because it's gonna to give you the best chance of everything lining up and fitting the first time. Once you have that factory system unbolted and out of the way, you'll actually start by hanging the tailpipe. Then, install the muffler, and then take a measurement or probably three or four of them to make sure that you cut the mid pipe to the exact length that you need it. Once the pipe is cut down, you can install it in the system using all of the included clamps, and all of those factory hangers will hold everything into place. The system does include one additional hanger to help hold up some of the additional weight of your new system. The whole installation could take you as little as an hour if your factory exhaust system is rust-free, or a little bit longer if you have to fight with it a bit. You won't need any specialty tools to get this installed, but having a pry bar handy to get rid of some of those rubber hangers is definitely useful. Now, I said before that this system is sort of no frills. As I mentioned, you can see some of the bend marks on the pipe, it doesn't come with a fancy polished tip, and it is 304 stainless instead of a 409 or a different grade. But all of those things keep the price of this system down a little bit, and in my opinion, this is a really fair price for what you get. It tucks everything up out of the way and gives your exhaust a really nice tone all for a really fair price. So, whether you're just looking to change up the tone of your exhaust and get some more volume out of it, or you're somebody who goes off road and either already smashed your muffler or exhaust tip, or you think you might, this is a really nice system that's not only gonna give you the sound and volume that you're after, but also tuck everything up out of the way. And the best part about it is it does it all at a really reasonable cost. So that's my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find it right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

      Good

This is louder than I was expecting. It's on the border of being obnoxious but tolerable. The install was fairly easy. I put this on a 2 door Rubicon. When I cut the straight pipe I left it a little long and had to make a second cut. It's better to have to trim a little more off than to cut it too short the first time. You can always cut more off, you can't put it back if you cut it too short. I chose this exhaust because the tailpipe extends all the way back and didn't dump under the Jeep before the axle. I do get better gas milage with this than I did with my axle back aftermarket exhaust I had before this. On the trip I take fairly regularly - all highway miles going about 80 mph - I'd pull into the gas station just as the fuel light would come on. Today I made it with about a 1/4 tank left and approximately 60 miles to empty. According to the computer. Same route and speed as usual. Getting the replaced exhaust stuff off was more difficult than installing this. I found it worked well if you shove a small flat head screw driver in the stock rubber hangers and pry (with lubricant) the old exhaust off.

      Way too loud

I removed this after a week. The constant drone was too much for my 2 door with a soft top. I replaced it with a more standard exhaust and resonator. Gave it two stars because it is an easy install.

      Great exhaust!

I was hesitant on buying this because of the drone people say they experienced. But none at all for me! Better than my axle back dynomax I had on there. Easy fit, great price and very fast shipping. Can’t complain! I love the noise and makes some heads turn!

Easy to install and a lot for your money

Not too loud and not too quiet, this exhaust sounds absolutely awesome. It's loud enough so that people will know when you pull up to their house.. lol. But not loud enough where it's obnoxious. Very easy installation. Hardest part will be getting the old exhaust off. Get a saw from harbor freight and cut it where it goes over the rear axle, saves a lot of time.

      Great exhaust for the price!

My Jk is a 3.8 and sounds great. It sounds the way a v6 should sound; not too loud, but just enough exhaust note. It sounds great even when it idles. Driving it on the highway gives you no issues with police. Removing the old exhaust was difficult but I got it done. Installing the Pypes system was easy. About an hour using home tools. It tucks in with plenty of ground clearance. I recomed it.

I really like the sound and grad I installed it

There was nothing wrong with the exhaust system on my 2010 Wrangler JK, in fact it was almost new. I read all the reviews and listen to the sound clips but struggled to decide if I wanted a louder Jeep, I did not want to be that guy. I bit my lip and proceeded and I am glad I did, even my wife loves it ! I gave it a ding for fit because the hanger rod had to be trimmed to fit without hitting the transfer case which caused a rattle. Other wise I love the sound and performance and I am glad I installed it. Would buy again !! Old exhaust was welded and I want to keep it so I had a shop install, cost $75.00

      Great Product for the price!

The finish on the exhaust is great. I have a four door 2008 Sahara sounds great on the jeep, I personally did not think the pypes was all that loud. Only complaint was the center hanger hits the frame and at low idle rattles.

Great exhaust, with a little modification

I ordered this exhaust after repeatily hitting my muffler on rocks and ledges and also pinching the tip shut a few times. The price was right so I went for it. Install was easy and straight forward. It took less than 30 minutes after getting the stock exhaust off. It was a little loud once I got it installed but I thought that I could live with it. That was until I loaded the jeep down for a weekend camping trip with a RTT, fridge and all the other camping equipment. The drone at 75mph was horrible and I could barely hear myself think, let alone the kids in the back seat. When I got home I cut out the resonator from the stock exhaust and installed it in front of the Pypes muffler. Now it has a great tone and volume. It'll still get loud at wide open throttle but is fairly quiet the rest of the time. Also the drone is completely gone.

Easy install, just a little louder than I like. I only had 1800 miles on my Jeep, my exhaust came apart pretty easy. Took almost an hour to remove old and replace with this new exhaust . Kit had everything I needed except one rubber hanger. ( used one of my old ones )

      Pypes High Clearance Cat-Back

Easy install and had no problem getting the stock exhaust off, I took my time and it took a little over an hour. As far as sound I like it and listening to videos online does not do this exhaust justice.Priced right and the back end no longer has that tanked stock exhaust in the back getting all banged up.
