I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This exhaust will fit on both your two-door and your four-door JK, however on a two-door you will have to do a little bit more trimming. Most catback exhaust systems are designed to provide you with a lower and louder exhaust note, especially one like this that removes your factory resonator and muffler in place of this much smaller muffler. Now the sound and the volume that you get out of your engine is very much going to be dependent on what year your Jeep is, and whether you have the 3.8-liter or the 3.6-liter motor. A system like this is specifically designed to be high clearance, so it gets rid of all that factory piping and muffler and tucks everything up out of the way of trail obstacles. Now this system is a little bit less expensive than some other high clearance systems on the market, and when you take a look at it, it is very utilitarian. You can see a lot of the marks on the piping from the benders. There's no fancy polished tip or anything like that, but it definitely gets the job done and it does it at a lower price than a lot of the other systems out there. This system is built out of two and a half inch diameter 304 stainless, which means the material is going to be fairly resistant to rust and corrosion, but you can expect to see a little bit of surface rust. It's not the highest quality material out there, but it's also not going to be low quality and completely rust out on you. But this is one way that Pypes is able to keep the cost of this system down a little bit. This system includes all of the hangers and clamps that you need to get it installed in the Jeep. And like I said before, you will have to do a little bit of trimming of the mid pipe, whether you're installing it on a two-door or a four-door JK. However, those of you with the two-door JK will have to do a little bit more cutting. Those of you who have done a lot of exhaust work in the past know that things can get rusty, and removing your factory system can be the most difficult part of an installation. So I would definitely recommend soaking all of the bolts, clamps, and hangers well in advance of getting started with a good penetrating oil to give you the best chance of everything coming apart.Pypes gives you very clear instructions on how to get this system installed on the Jeep, and I would recommend following those instructions carefully because it's gonna to give you the best chance of everything lining up and fitting the first time. Once you have that factory system unbolted and out of the way, you'll actually start by hanging the tailpipe. Then, install the muffler, and then take a measurement or probably three or four of them to make sure that you cut the mid pipe to the exact length that you need it. Once the pipe is cut down, you can install it in the system using all of the included clamps, and all of those factory hangers will hold everything into place. The system does include one additional hanger to help hold up some of the additional weight of your new system. The whole installation could take you as little as an hour if your factory exhaust system is rust-free, or a little bit longer if you have to fight with it a bit. You won't need any specialty tools to get this installed, but having a pry bar handy to get rid of some of those rubber hangers is definitely useful. Now, I said before that this system is sort of no frills. As I mentioned, you can see some of the bend marks on the pipe, it doesn't come with a fancy polished tip, and it is 304 stainless instead of a 409 or a different grade. But all of those things keep the price of this system down a little bit, and in my opinion, this is a really fair price for what you get. It tucks everything up out of the way and gives your exhaust a really nice tone all for a really fair price. So, whether you're just looking to change up the tone of your exhaust and get some more volume out of it, or you're somebody who goes off road and either already smashed your muffler or exhaust tip, or you think you might, this is a really nice system that's not only gonna give you the sound and volume that you're after, but also tuck everything up out of the way. And the best part about it is it does it all at a really reasonable cost.So that's my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find it right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Will you lose a lot of back pressure ? Will I get more throttle response at rpm range?
When it comes to exhausts, you really aren't going to see anything noticeable in regards to your ride. Unless you're speaking about headers, the only thing you should really be focusing on is the sound you want.
is this 50 state legal?
This will be 50 state legal yes.
Hello, can this exhaust be installed on a jeep with a 2inch lift kit? (Mammoth 2inch front/ 1inch rear leveling kit), or any other lift kits?
This cat back will be able to work with a lift or leveling kit in the same manner as the stock exhaust kit.
Hi, does this require any cutting for the 4 for the 4dr JKS?
This would not require cutting for the JKU models.
Does this come with a true muffler (baffled inside), or a resonator?

Cat back review
Install was smooth instructions were perfect. Took about 1.5 hours. Product as expected. Exhaust was Very loud at first, including some droning almost too loud for me. After 700 miles or so the notes has mellowed out enough that I really like. Happy so far.Helpful (0)

Great for the price
It is definitely louder than the stock system. My JKU did not require any cutting of the pipes. The install was pretty easy with everything sliding together rather easy. Getting the old system out was the major hassle. After fighting it for a little bit I got the sawzall and that made it go much faster. As for mileage I don't know yet. I enjoy the sound so my foot has gotten heavier for the time being and I install a cold air intake at the same time.Helpful (1)

would buy again
easy to install and sounds great. Very aggressive idle with nice pops during shifting. Im 24 and a fan of louder exhausts and I would say its on the loud end of the spectrum. If youre looking for something mild or even subdued, THIS ISNT IT. I have zero regrets and when this one wears out or gets to banged up on the rocks ill happily bu another.Helpful (1)

A good exhaust will completely transform your jeep. very easy to put on took me about an hour or two, the only difficulty is taking off the old exhaust. A sawzall was the only way I could do it. The sound is amazing, it has a great roar to it. In the 2,000-3,500 RPM range sounds so good, when downshifting and braking especially in 2nd gear it will have a satisfying pop. With the doors off it put a smile on my face every time. There is no to very little drone. I highly recommend, I swear it makes my jeep feel faster lmao.Helpful (2)

Installed on my 2017 JK 2 door. Very easy to install. Has a nice look and removes the factory muffler in the back. Gives you a nice loud aggressive sound that is just at the right spot below "annoying loud". You can hear that it actually is an exhaust and not just a torn off pipe. Perfect to get rid of the pathetic stock exhaust and turn a few heads in front of Walmart while still showing respect to your neighbors.Helpful (1)

Love the look and has a great low exhaust note! Was a very easy installation. Biggest trouble was taking off the factory system.Helpful (1)

PYPES CAT-BACK - Loud - YES, Nice Fit Finish
Hello Jeepers! Received and installed the Pypes High Clearance exhaust and I am sharing a piece of info that may help the install time. 1). Don't even mess with WD40 to help prepare for the disassembly of you old stock system, get your 3" cut off wheel and cut off the rubber hangers. It's the only way. I did the install on my shop floor, no jack stands and remember to remove the transfer case belly pan first, it will really help. 2). when you install this on a 4 door, follow the directions BUT do it the opposite way - install the mid pipe and clamps, then the M80 muffler and follow up on sliding the tail pipe over the differential - THEN HANG the exhaust on the factory mounting area. If you do it as the instructions say you will never be able to slide the mid pipe into the tail pipe section. Try it this way, made my final install very easy. Do spray the hangers with Silicon spray also. The entire install took me 3 1/2 hours so a lot longer than expected and the old system, as everyone states is a bear to remove. Hope this system mellows out over time because it is very loud. Enjoy!Helpful (3)

Cut off my old exhaust to put this one on so install did not take more than 2-3 hours (mostly because I'm very careful with it and my old one was very rusty). Used air tools per manufactures suggestion. Everything fit great out of the box so a very easy install overall. Not many marks on the pipes when it arrived. I did not have to make any cuts to the pipe or bend anything for install on my 2007 JKUX 4 door. Makes a good sound and replaced my rusted out pipes so I'm satisfied.Helpful (1)

Made well a little loud
It's a good exhaust that's made well just a little bit too loud for my likes. I might add an extra muffler to quite it down some. It doesn't sound bad though and doesn't drone.Helpful (0)

Quality product, nothing bling, very functional, and good hard ware. Fit was perfect on my 4 door no cutting required. Sound wasn’t great, but not bad for a V6. I will say it is get better with time and growing on me. Hardest part getting the factory exhaust off.Helpful (0)

love the sound. Pretty sporty and very v6 sounding but I don’t mind it! Planning on possibly getting a Y pipe down the road but this sound is amazing so far. Can’t wait to hear it fully broken in. Good road noise. Still able to talk to the girlfriend which is great! (Hah) Can also confirm the OEM exhaust is a PITA to remove. After that the install is quick and easy!Helpful (1)

I love the sound of this -- doesn't drone, just sounds GREAT! Now I like taking the top off more so I can hear it better! My foot's gained a LOT of weight though! BrettHelpful (1)

Not for the over 30 crowd...
First off, easy to remove the old exhaust system - no PB soaking, no BS - it's called a sawzall and an impact wrench folks. 10 minutes and the old system was cut apart and off the jeep. This is a well made system for the price but WAY too loud and too much drone for a daily driver. I ended up doing the evap canister relocate and installing a different muffler to make this tolerable. Fuel economy went up almost a full mile per gallon and ground clearance gain was worth the cost of admission.Helpful (0)

Awesome sound and looks great
This cat-back exhaust is a great value for your money. It costs a bit more than others but it is stainless steel and not aluminized steel. Plus it sounds and looks great. It gives plenty of clearance if your climbing some rocks or just rollin through some mud burms. I hated how the factory muffler took up so much space and just looked cheesy. Really happy with this purchase. I had a mechanic put it on and it was a little over a $100.Helpful (0)

Good but loud
Product is excellent in quality and fit. Be aware the exhaust note is louder than you would think. At least for me it was. I will be replacing this with something closer to stock. The 2 hour highway drive to the off-road site with this exhaust exhausted me. Otherwise easy to install. Don’t try to unbolt your old exhaust, just cut off brackets with cutting tool. If you want loud this is for you.Helpful (1)
