    Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This exhaust will fit on both your two-door and your four-door JK, however on a two-door you will have to do a little bit more trimming. Most catback exhaust systems are designed to provide you with a lower and louder exhaust note, especially one like this that removes your factory resonator and muffler in place of this much smaller muffler. Now the sound and the volume that you get out of your engine is very much going to be dependent on what year your Jeep is, and whether you have the 3.8-liter or the 3.6-liter motor. A system like this is specifically designed to be high clearance, so it gets rid of all that factory piping and muffler and tucks everything up out of the way of trail obstacles. Now this system is a little bit less expensive than some other high clearance systems on the market, and when you take a look at it, it is very utilitarian. You can see a lot of the marks on the piping from the benders. There's no fancy polished tip or anything like that, but it definitely gets the job done and it does it at a lower price than a lot of the other systems out there. This system is built out of two and a half inch diameter 304 stainless, which means the material is going to be fairly resistant to rust and corrosion, but you can expect to see a little bit of surface rust. It's not the highest quality material out there, but it's also not going to be low quality and completely rust out on you. But this is one way that Pypes is able to keep the cost of this system down a little bit. This system includes all of the hangers and clamps that you need to get it installed in the Jeep. And like I said before, you will have to do a little bit of trimming of the mid pipe, whether you're installing it on a two-door or a four-door JK. However, those of you with the two-door JK will have to do a little bit more cutting. Those of you who have done a lot of exhaust work in the past know that things can get rusty, and removing your factory system can be the most difficult part of an installation. So I would definitely recommend soaking all of the bolts, clamps, and hangers well in advance of getting started with a good penetrating oil to give you the best chance of everything coming apart. Pypes gives you very clear instructions on how to get this system installed on the Jeep, and I would recommend following those instructions carefully because it's gonna to give you the best chance of everything lining up and fitting the first time. Once you have that factory system unbolted and out of the way, you'll actually start by hanging the tailpipe. Then, install the muffler, and then take a measurement or probably three or four of them to make sure that you cut the mid pipe to the exact length that you need it. Once the pipe is cut down, you can install it in the system using all of the included clamps, and all of those factory hangers will hold everything into place. The system does include one additional hanger to help hold up some of the additional weight of your new system. The whole installation could take you as little as an hour if your factory exhaust system is rust-free, or a little bit longer if you have to fight with it a bit. You won't need any specialty tools to get this installed, but having a pry bar handy to get rid of some of those rubber hangers is definitely useful. Now, I said before that this system is sort of no frills. As I mentioned, you can see some of the bend marks on the pipe, it doesn't come with a fancy polished tip, and it is 304 stainless instead of a 409 or a different grade. But all of those things keep the price of this system down a little bit, and in my opinion, this is a really fair price for what you get. It tucks everything up out of the way and gives your exhaust a really nice tone all for a really fair price. So, whether you're just looking to change up the tone of your exhaust and get some more volume out of it, or you're somebody who goes off road and either already smashed your muffler or exhaust tip, or you think you might, this is a really nice system that's not only gonna give you the sound and volume that you're after, but also tuck everything up out of the way. And the best part about it is it does it all at a really reasonable cost. So that's my review of the Pypes High Clearance Catback Exhaust, fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find it right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

2 things - can pipes be painted with high temp stove paint?, and will the jeep need to be up on a lift for installation?

    • Thank you for your question! The Pypes High Clearance Cat-Back Exhaust can be painted with the proper preparation and paint, and I would recommend contacting a professional for painting. Also, you will not need a lift for this exhaust and can use jack stands, but a lift makes it faster/easier.

      Easy install on JKU

The exhaust note is nice but the drone heard inside at highway speed is mind numbing. Took about two hours to install. Very good quality.

      Clearance and look

I like the amount of clearance it gives. Saves you money on muffler armor with it being tucked up and out of the way and it gives the jeep (nine is a 08 rubicon) a cleaner appearance at the rear. None of this kit hangs below the framerail. Install time dependa on how rusted your old exhaust is.

      Good exhaust system

Like others have said, removing the stock exhaust was the hardest part - it took 2 hours to remove. The install on a 2-door JK is more complicated - I had to do two cuts of the mid pipe due to the tailpipe hitting my after market bumper (LoD). I ended cutting the mid-pipe to 11.5". The exhaust is a little too loud. Sounds nice at idle and low RPMs, but anything over 3000 RPMs is too load. Getting used to it however. Two days after the install, it did fine on the trail over Kingston Peak and Yankee Hill (in Colorado)

Pypes Hi clearance on 2 door

First off the exhaust system has a much more aggressive low note than stock. Two doors do require trimming in the midpipe, and I recommend trying to preserve one stock hanger just in case. Using lubricatinf oil a week before is helpful, but its just as easy to grind off the old exhaust system instead of having to deal with bolts. Install took about 45 minutes including removal and install... exhaust sounds terrific and can’t beat the price for the quality

Awesome sound for the price !

One of the easiest exhausts I’ve ever done. Good directions that explain how to install for even the most inexperienced mechanics. Great sound and adds a really nice rumble! Also really nice they give you new exhaust hangars because you will more than likely end up cutting one to get it off.

Great product at a fantastic price.

My only note is taking off the old exhaust was a serious pain. Definitely soak all connections and hangers in penetrating oil at least an hour before beginning. Once I had the stock exhaust off it took maybe 25 to 30 minutes to install the pypes system.

      Looks great

I like how this exhaust looks and the clearance it provides but the sound is not pleasing. After just over 1000 miles on this system it sounds like an Italian sport bike and not a Jeep. Maybe I will get use to it some day. At least at this price I will not feel too terrible replacing it one day.

      nice really nice

this high clearance is great. It starts off really loud but after 500 or s miles it has mellowed out. i think this is a really good value. i recommend using a saw zaw to remove the factory exhaust.

      Exactly What I Wanted!

Simply Awesome on my 2010 JK! Beware after installing the Pypes Exhaust will be Very Loud but After one week of break in time the sound changes to a nice low tone rumble. City/Town driving @1500-2000rpm pipe purrs and doesn’t create any attention but step on it and it’s a head turner. Highway driving has a little drone but is more of a pleasant rumble. Product arrived quickly and Very easy installation.

      Serves its purpose

I bought the exhaust to tuck it up and out of the way. It does the job. It's a bit loud. One of my trail buddies described it as sounding like a can full of angry hornets. I haven't decided if I like the sound or not. It does not sound like an import though. One of my other trail buddies said that it sounded better than the magnaflow that he used to have on his JK, but I didn't hear it for myself. One complaint would be that it didn't come with any of the clamps that were supposed to be in the box. We had a welder, so we welded it up instead. For the money I'm pretty happy with it and I would have bought it again.

      Fantastic and loud

Fantastic system. Easy to install and I suggest impact tools as stated to attach the clamps. The worst part was the stock rubber dampeners. Removal was a major pain and cut off wheels were used to remove stock muffler hangers. You will need to remove the transfer case skidplate to gwt the stock pipe out
